If AAPL isn't going up, someone must know something?
That's not what I said.
If I have a position and it's not behaving "correctly" then it behooves me to rethink my own assumptions and logic in taking said position, rather than stubbornly assuming I'm "right" and the market is "wrong" or (more nonsensically) "manipulated". Further reflection may result in the conclusion that the position is still a good one and worth keeping anyway, or any of a host of other possible conclusions. The conclusion I came to this morning was to sell half and keep the rest for the original target.
Hey no problem. And I certainly wouldn't be offended if you disagreed or blew the argument out of the water - differences make a market! :)
By that logic, there is no better or worse time to buy AAPL...
Apologies - I don't follow how you came to that conclusion.
I've got the DJI, NASDAQ, and S+P up 1.62 to 2.4%.
In past five days AAPL has gone from 91 -> 112 or 22%.
In past two days Nikkei Index - the whole index - has gone from 7k -> 9k or 28%.
Closer to home QQQQ (the NDX 100 proxy) has gone up 18% in the same five days.
As someone who held quite a bit of AAPL and still holds some even now, it concerns me quite a bit that what I perceive to be a well-valued stock isn't absolutely blowing away indices that are riddled with under-cashed, over-leveraged companies. Somebody is wrong, and it would be foolish to simply assume "it's not me!".
It's funny how our internals affect perception - I'm looking at AAPL and wondering why it's barely outperforming broader markets.
First target shoulda been hit already. Pattern played out, target wasn't hit, I'll take what the market is giving.
This is third round trip during the recent debacle, remaining half has a cost basis of, like, $50 or something, can afford more patience with that.
As my kids would say - who the hell are "The Beatles"?
Anyway, dumping half AAPL holdings here. It's been green 4 of the last 5 days, don't want to push my luck. :) Will of course reload if/when it goes back to double digits.
I believe that company is in Lango's neighborhood. We should have him go check the stuff out.
Meanwhile, Nikkei just went through 9k. That's a 22% move in a bit over 48 hours. Weeeeee!
When I was a wee one they pulled a TV into every classroom and we all watched the 1972 Summit Series together. Ok - different sport - but the principle is the same - it made an indelible memory and cemented it as something that transcended a sporting event and became a cultural event.
I suppose I'll have to turn in my over-educated "Elitist" credentials now that I've - *gasp* - suggesting something as proletariat and common as sport can be considered - *gasp* - culture. But that's a topic for different discussion...
Clearly, what the league needs is more Red Sox vs Mets series.
OT: The saga continues...
"Officials with the Treasury and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. are crafting a plan under which the government would guarantee the mortgages of as many as 3 million homeowners now struggling to avoid foreclosure ...
Under the program being discussed, the lender would agree to reduce borrowers’ monthly payments, for example by lowering the interest rate or principal of a mortgage loan, based on the homeowner’s ability to pay. ... the government would then guarantee to repay the lender for a portion of its loss if the borrower defaulted on the reconfigured loan."
From each according to their abilities...
Nice find, thanks. EOM.
Better hope for an Arizona-Tampa final, then.
That said, I *love* the "World Baseball thing".
Heh. In Manny's seven full seasons, the team missed the playoffs outright three times. I'm ok with occasional bow-out in an immensely compelling and entertaining ALCS. :)
Not to be taken as a "who?" comment - I loved having Manny being Manny and wish him all the best in the remainder of his career.
I'm ok either way, honestly. What bugs me is the whole "appearance of impropriety" thing with only calling it after Tampa tied it up. And it seems to me going the suspend route changes the game dramatically regardless because of the pitching match ups.
Would it be blasphemy to suggest the season is a couple of weeks too long?
Took the ALCS to seven games. Is that supposed to be considered a failure?
Why play the series with different rules than you play the regular season?
Heh heh heh. What are you doing with AAPL these days? I'm still holding for $120 and $130 as exit points. Then back to the sidelines for re-evaluation.
Anybody have a recommendation for a drop-in video card for Mac Pro to allow third and fourth displays?
At the $400/share some folks were talking about last year for AAPL, it would be in the same market cap class as those companies. Which is exactly what spooked me...
So...putting on tin foil hat...was it "suggested" to Philadelphia that they give up a run in the sixth so the game could be called without running afoul of the "it's official after 5 innings" rule?
Add regional banks to their shopping list, too. EOM.
Political AND Apple-related:
No on Prop 8
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.
#1A) no ability to have applications run in the background.
OT and Political:
The federal government may start guaranteeing home mortgages to persuade lenders to ease the monthly financial burden on struggling homeowners, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Sheila C. Bair said yesterday.
If the free market regime keeps this up, there won't be anything left for Obama to socialize.
OT and Political:
Both the traditional "election rally" and McCain appear to be running out of time...

...according to Scott Bleier...
Sounds like a winner to me...

With the assets that SNDK has in cash and royalties alone, this has to be one of the best no-brainers of all time.
Cash on hand seems to be about the same as long term debt - basically a wash. Most recent quarter SNDK reported a loss. With all the fabs coming on line, there is going to be a giant glut of Flash as economies around the world slide into recession.
I'm in for a taste at $8.83 with what-the-hell money, but can't even begin to imagine how SNDK's "$52" can be justified. My acquisition target value is $15/share.
Let's see how $10 feels for a while...
Have you checked the ticker this morning? It's already well below $10. This thing is going to hit 10-year low before it's all over.
You'd think they'd have learned *something* from Yahoo's ginormous brain fart...
Canuck buck below 80¢…
What a fast, fast move that was. Ugh.
Wow. If his teammates had shown that much passion during the season, maybe he wouldn't have been sitting in the bar so early in the autumn.
PC dude may not be the only one holding a bake sale. CalPers - the largest pension fund on the continent - has reportedly lost more than 20% of its asset value this fall.
Maybe working until your 85 will become the new black...
IMO Tampa has a distinct advantage because they spent an entire season in the AL East torture crucible - and won. The Phillies played in a division with a 100-loss team.
Tampa had to hold of the Red Sox.
Phillies had to hold of perennial chokers.
Put me down for another AL champ.
I cringe at the very idea. EOM.
Too late to introduce anything substantial to affect Q1 margins. The only change in product mix is the new laptop lineup. Is that what is going to kill margin...?
I pointed my buddy towards a refurb MBP for $1300 and he's golden - one less Hackintosh to worry about. :)
Interesting - there's been a dearth of them in the refurb section - been looking to pick one up for the kidlets.
So you want to discuss the issue, or just post like an ass?
Well curiously enough I just got a call from a friend who has decided to replace a MBP with a Dell because (essentially) equivalent hardware is half the price from Dell.
The Apple Tax is back, I'm afraid, big time.
Which is a roundabout way of saying I wouldn't be surprised by $75 between now and six months from now, either.
Sounds interesting - unfortunately I'm in the wrong city. :)
This stock just cannot get out of its own way - are we going to see $75 or $115 after the bell?
