WTF? Now I'm getting bullshit spam email from iHub's owner pimping his self-published book?
No wonder this place has become a ghost town.
Are you still pumping this POS scam?
He got roasted on his last AAPL play, at least there might be some entertainment value here.
just a massive grotesquely /obscenely huge monstrous military machine doing naught but protecting a broken and ROTTING EGG.
Kinda wondering if the Japan model so many are looking at now isn't the optimistic case - perhaps the model we're following is mid-century UK.
PS I think I do remember you...musical friend named PH, right?
Read you loud and clear. Gonna have some fun on the way out, though. :)
think about it does it really mater?
Yes, I would think excluding 90% of the potential market matters a great deal.
Unless the objective isn't to make money, but to live off of "investors".

Someday, you and I *must* sit down over a pitcher or two.

Thirty seconds ago you said the songs would play on iPods. Now you're saying they won't.
Which is it?
Favorite bit of reportage on them...
Qtrax is staffed by refugees from SpiralFrog, the clueless ad-supported web startup that was unveiled in a blaze of publicity but never quite launched properly – yet still managed to fork over $2m to Universal Music, the world's biggest record company, before it had made a single transaction. This is their latest suicidal tilt at the market.
If you're going to fail, I guess, then fail hard and fast.
At one point they were claiming to have cracked FairPlay - I think everyone remembers how well that worked out for Real.
"It will" is just a complicated way of saying "it doesn't".
...expected within weeks...
No, it was "expected" a full year ago. A year ago they claimed it was done. And still nothing.
This company is about as believable as a pair of Rodeo Drive boobs.
qtrax songs don't play AT ALL unless you are connected to the internet which makes them useless for mobiles/portables. and the music won't play AT ALL on ANY iPod due to choice of DRM.
they're DOA and not worth thinking about.
Relative to where it closed, it's really not all that bad, currently at 79.30. Of course where it goes by opening bell is anyone's guess. I had bids in below $75 and they were NOT hit.
Was close to selling puts today - assuming this tankage lasts through morning and IV has the expected spike, I'll probably be short the downside by lunch.
Sorry, he ain't gonna save you...
"Tim Cook is a very experienced and highly regarded chief operating officer," said Calyon Securities analyst Shebly Seyrafi. "He's qualified."
That, as they say, is a left-handed compliment.
'Cause, you know, only off-topic Evil Doing Hedgie Shorters would even think about making his health an issue by spreading evil rumors about it.
:(
Hope everyone here is alright in their positions...
Do it somewhere else!
Done! The place is all yours.
Nah - you're a steady guy who rarely gets in food fights. Me, I'm too Balkan to be trusted with such responsibility. :)

All these posts about Dell and other products assume a willingness to use Windows.
Mmmm...I'm pretty sure Hackintosh has entered the conversation at several points. Dell's happen to be an increasingly better fit for this - a curious mind might wonder if this is a back door...something...
I had a post nuked, too. Wasn't even inflammatory or directed at anyone.
I'm a little confused - when has it been any different?
Built-in TV tuner - damn, that's the one. And multitouch pad - dollars to donuts Dell is aiming squarely at the Hackintosh crowd. They seem hell bent on becoming an OSX licensee - official or not.
It's even funnier if you read it inverse chronological order...

Don't believe for a second that Apple will be immune from the oncoming downturn..
The number of new Apple job postings has declined dramatically. Really, really dramatically.
Today's feel-good story, brought to you by PBGC (Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp, the Fannie of private pension plans):
"Perhaps most important is the fact that the PBGC runs with a $14 billion shortfall, which would not be tolerated by insurance regulators; if the PBGC were a private-sector insurer, it would be shut down."
Note that this is directly from PGBC and is published directly on their own website.
Sleep well, kiddies!

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.
Missing from the Keynote...

Well I would be quite surprised to see it happen all in one day! :) I also consider INTC to be one of the clear survivors on the back end of whatever comes next.
And you know, it's really not that far away, just one week of days like today and we're basically there.
To see <11$ I think another market meltdown on the order of the Sept-Oct action would need to occur and I think that highly unlikely...
I'm on the opposite side of that one - fully expect to see the Dow with a 6-handle sometime this year. That would give the markets an earnings multiple in line with previous significant bears. Hopefully this happens sooner rather than later, so we can get on with the business of getting on. :)
Intel warns, revs down ~25% year-over-year. This is setting up for a wonderfully volatile earnings release in 2 weeks...
Interestingly, the y-o-y decline Intel is pre-announcing is right in line with the supposedly sandbagged expectations Apple gave at the end of last quarter.
GM will survive but their common shares will not...
Don't know why it's so hard for people to dissociate the company from the common stock. GM is being bailed out under terms not that different from the financial companies - don't have to look any further than AIG or FNM to see a reasonable estimate for the upside possibilities on the common.
Disclosure: I've just closed out GM bond positions as they've had a lovely 50% run, and am stilling holding short GM GTZ puts as I don't expect the common to get *completely* wiped out (cost basis on assignation ~$0.50/share).
Using round numbers...
To make $1000 when AAPL @ $150 using the options you mentioned requires...
1000/(150-110-14) = 1000/26 ~= options on 40 shares
Max downside is 40*14 ~= $560
AAPL currently @ $92. At $150 the per-share gain is $58. To make the same gain using just the stock requires going long 20 shares.
Max downside on AAPL is pick-a-number: I'll say $60/share.
Max exposure then is 20*($92-$60) ~= $640
Similar upside, similar downside. One approach is open to a larger loss at the bear extreme, but also allows you to make money even if stock only goes half way to bull target.
Summary answer: buying long-dated options during periods of high volatility is not fun.
I think you undervalue the importance of tribalism. EOM.
You AAPL longs are a strange bunch!
This is an AAPL board, not a "long AAPL" board. Some folks are quite happy playing both up and down.
I'm a little concerned that they did not give out one sales number for iPhone or Mac. In the past those were trumpeted to high heaven. Setting up to be a real gong show going into the earnings announcement in 2 weeks...
No apologies necessary - you're not alone feeling that way - talk about going out with a whimper.
Ah...new catch phrase..."one LAST thing"...
This better be good.
