Got a Playbook and loving it!!!! Too bad I only got the 16GB version
Seriously pissed at Virgin mobile for overcharging on my prepaid card. My experience with cellular carriers has not been good. They are cellular bandits.
Wandered into Staples today and took a Windows 8 equipped machine for a spin. Reviews made me expect the worse but I actually was impressed overall with the brief experience.
Can you go from Vista Premium to Win8 Pro? Is Win8 really as fast and powerful as they say like for example boot-up times cut really short?
The only reason I hesitate to upgrade is because I might lose some programs and drivers may not exist for some of my older peripherals?
Thanks for any feedback!

Found it! I figured advanced system care was the culprit once I had switched to professional mode. I restored the INTERNET BOOST settings which made some funny changes.
I played around with Advanced System Care 6 and in my attempt at making computer faster I lost some images in my browser pages (ie no pics in Netflix). I tried putting everything back the way it was but so far images are still missing in some web pages. What to do?

Playbook Blackberry question ... I found a free anti-virus called NetQin that is specifically configured for Blackberry, but I don't find it in App World. So I found it elsewhere on the Net but when I downloaded to my tablet it said do you wish to overwrite this file. I checked File Manager and sure enough there it was and seemed to have been installed the day I bought and first booted up this tablet.
So is NetQin embedded in Blackberry OS and how come I can't access it anywhere to sweep my tablet for viruses etc?
I am confused (once again)

ps what lead up to this was that my wallpaper had disappeared when I opened up tablet today, something that has never happened before?

Well this morning after an IOBIT defrag at boot time everything was fine. I found an inverter card on eBay for .98 with free S&H. Temporary reprieve for a finicky laptop ...
thanks SD! No it is a 4-year old Toshiba but I presume that it could be the inverter card anyway. I got the monitor to work fine and the laptop screen only has a thin black line at the bottom. Unless it gets way worse I will not bother to fix it. Thanks again!
Booted up laptop this morning and the bottom 1/3 of the screen was black and the task bar was just above it. In the black zone the cursor disappeared. On my external monitor I had full screen. I fiddled with the monitor display settings and now I only have a narrow band of black at the bottom of the laptop screen. Ext monitor is fine. Is my laptop monitor dying? Font settings also seem to be smaller. I don't remember doing anything yesterday that would create this new display...
Thanks
Thanks for the stories and facts ... much appreciated!

Rented a black basic model Dodge Caliber with 18,000 miles. What a piece of junk! Suspension was creaking like an old wooden ship, steering was jittery, acceleration was poor, engine needlessly noisy and not very economical. Transmission stuttered and hesitated needlessly. The exterior design is ok and the inside is spacious and comfortable enough and seats look like they can handle a lot of wear and tear. Door joints already beginning to rust.
Dug up a USB printer cable and was able to install printer with no problem. Going the wireless route it was looking for the Solution Menu EX driver. Is it possible my old wireless router is unable to create a suitable port?
Got the spool thing working to install program but now it says NEW PORT COULD NOT BE DETECTED ... please help .. thanks

Thanks!

Great stuff -- thanks!
If I have a netbook or laptop wired into a hotel's hi-speed what do I need to feed wireless gadgets like an iPod or Playbook tablet?
Wireless router or something else?
thanks
thanks ...
Ok Don thanks, I will not hesitate to get an AMD if it suits the travel requirements.
Thanks Don, so is there any advantage or disadvantage to having AMD vs Intel? Just curious ..
Looking for a cheap laptop to use for travel (watch videos, surf and e-mail). Is the AMD processor a good choice ty
Same thing happened today. This time it was after a check disc at boot-up. At least no blue screens of death
Rented a black 300hp Impala LT and I was amazed at its speed - probably the fastest car I have ever rented or driven for that matter. Quality of the build is not very good as things were already falling apart after only 3500 miles. But is sure fun to drive.
Thanks -- I am in ...
Thanks for further tips (cv joints).
The mechanic suggested that I charge up the battery and drive the 4.5 miles to his shop to have alternator and whatever replaced just on the battery. That makes me nervous so I will probably just get CAA to tow it there.
I figured it would probably cost around $2k to get the car back in good shape, so starting with the alternator and seeing how that goes is a beginning for me. Could try to sell it but we would get so little that it would not be worth the trouble.[img][/img]
I keep hoping we could make it last a couple of months and then just escape for the winter
Got a 'WerFaault.exe Application ERROR 0xc 0000006' message on opening up desktop this morning. Rebooted and all was fine. The only program affected seems to have been FireFox
No blue screen since last one so that has to be good.
Yes, the car is a 1991 Buick Park Avenue with 120,000 miles. I never noticed idiot lights glowing in the dark (I always park in the garage) but the gauge (voltmeter) for the alternator always seemed fine (staying around 13 dead center) from the beginning except of course last Friday when everything on the car started slowing like signal light, wipers etc and voltmeter fell to 8. For the first time ever i saw the needle fall to the far left of the gauge. I knew I was in trouble so I shut everything off and we barely made it into the driveway. I think the battery really was dead as it was 8 years old. I see alt are about $200 new here but knowing my mechanic he will probably find one used in good shape for far less.
Power steering did spew again last Thursday but after adding some Gunk sealant it seemed fine on Friday before alternator incident. Car may soon need a cv joint as I hear a clunk in front on driver side. Tuneup and brake job and oil job are due soon. Drive train seems fine and I have two sets of tires that are probably in their last year. It actually runs quite well and smoothly but it is so unreliable lately that I am losing confidence in it except it does always breakdown in garage or nearby!
What started all this was that after the last fix it worked fine for two days but then it got hard to start. Finally in the sweltering heat at Home Depot Friday afternoon it would not start. I went to call CAA for a boost but when I tried again before it arrived it started again (hesitatingly). The next day after driving around about 30 minutes the alt started dying on me half a mile from home. That last traffic light seemed to last forever :(
Thanks for all your help. I will get the car towed to the mechanic and see if the alternator is the answer.
I really appreciate your suggestions and assistance. I was about to post the car for sale but now you encourage me to give it one last chance ....
Last fix lasted all of two days before alternator died and power steering started spewing fluid again. I think it is time to say goodbye. Memorial will be held at ... (YouTube)
Better even he charged all of $40 - I love this mechanic!!!
Great news -- car works fine again. Found draw within the first 30 minutes and the rest is salvation history. I was sure it was headed to the scrap heap tomorrow morning!!
Well looks like battery (brand new) charges up fine but something is draining it. Not sure how long it will take to fix but car has been in shop three days now ...
Kewl thanks -- I see seven trackers here alone lol but iHub loads up WAY faster!!!
Played with IE9 on a friend's computer and it seemed fine. In fact Internet provider refused to troubleshoot her computer connection unless she used IE9
Seems common these days. Every update brings new problems. I never had problems with FF till 6 months ago and now it has become spotty at best for its reliability. Horror of horrors I have even considered using IE9.
On Twitter they have a whole cult following of FF crashes!!
Two days ago the power driver seat died. Now the whole car is dead as a doorknob yet the battery is barely a month old. Is it possible a fuse is blown or do you peeps figure may the whole damn electric system fried. The car is 22 years old?
Thanks

After months of no more blue screens that I had been suffering from for quite a while, I opened up VLC today to watch a documentary and the sound went nuts and then that horrible blue screen kicked in ... I used Advanced Computer Care 5 to clean it up once it had rebooted up and found 100s of WINDOWS errors in the registry related to APP MANAGEMENT/ARP cache.
I also did a MSFT Safy scanner sweep that found nothing (virus et al)
I had finally resolved this problem several months ago with AVG tune-up suite. If it persists I may go that way again.
WHAT A GOLD MINE!!!!
