Question-> what's one of the better DVD recorder/burner (internal) to get that someone definitely has had good success with and easy to use.? Is there a prior link that I missed! I guess I want to get a sony or other name brand that does all the dvd and cd stuff in one box since the price has come down quite a bit now. Thanks I appreciate it.

Bruce, I don't see anyplace that has a value set for HDD of 1 or 0. Just says the normal [User HDD] and the other settins-ie. Auto, Manual etc etc.. ??

OK Bruce, I have a key gen. so I even tryed to set up with clean HD as pri. master in new box and it still came up with same "HD failed" during post and goes no further so I can install XP on new hard drive. Thanks, appreciate the help.

What I'm trying to do is get new machine running and boot up with HDD from othr pc that has all my stuff and win XP already there.
on start up it during post it says Primary master failed. This is how I have it set up:
HDD-primary master ->jumper on master, all connections straight & tight
CD-RW-secondary master->jumper on master, connections tight.
When I reboot to go back into bios to got to MAIN, pri. mstr on auto->recognizes my hdd.........pri. slave-> none,...... secondary mstr.->auto-recognizes cd-rw,....secondary slave-> none.
Boot seq. 1. HDD 2. CDR 3. floppy

I reboot and during post or towards the end of it it prints out sec. master-> 52x24x52 ..... then pri.master has failed..
Then the option alt F2 to go to ASUS EZ FLASH or DEL to get back to bios.
So I just took my hard drive out and put it back in this box to get back online and fires right thru post and XP and here I am. What's wrong with my set up?? Dad gummit. Ticking my off.

You Terminator builders-> I just finished putting together my own box also a few days ago and before I even saw the parts list you have here for the terminator, I have a similar set up but not quite as fast. I'll run down the list in a minute of components I am using but back to issues I am having brain lock on how to get past initial startup setting up bios etc to get to installing OS (XP).

Motherboard- Asus A7V8X-X Is this board similar to the one you guys using?

cpu-2200 athlon xp (priced nicely can upgrade if I need to)

WD 40G hard drive

cd burner

I fire the system up and it just hangs up on me after getting into the bios set up. The manual really isn't helping much. Am I missing a step? Thanks for any input I'll check back in the morning.
