mshere, hoping and waiting for that day when we will be able to kick this Frick and Frack with an excellent news out of KOP.
-vg_future
JimLur & bnnynbrone, Thanks. With this update from S&P I wonder how any investor can keep his/her hands away from IDCC (market response to this news right now is very mild). I would think everybody would like to get a piece of the cake before it gets too expensive. Our day will come soon....and we will be able to kick these shorts' rear and give them pretty good "squeeze" in the shorts.
If any of the board gurus can comment on the significance of this S&P update, it would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck all!

mshere- forgive my ignorance. "Send" button to send what? are you referring to any would be news release from KOP?
Thanks!

Anybody, any comments on my message 56339.
Thanks!

All, There are 3 messages on yahoo board talking about S&P upping the fair value of IDCC to over 30.

Little observation about that lady who works at McDonalds (sorry, no offense intended). I know that some of us here discussed that her short candidates (as she mentioned in her articles in Forbes) are good buys. After looking at the companies that she wrote articles about (AAII, NFI and ofcourse IDCC..probably there are more), I noticed something common...they all have good institutional & insider holdings and the short ratio is pretty high (for IDCC it is mild when compared to the other 2 companies). That makes them excellent squeeze candidates. Is she picking right squeeze candidates and further boosting the squeeze by giving it more exposure/publicity (however, I am not sure if the short ratio for AAII and NFI has increased after she covered them or it was already high). A little short trap...eh!
Let's wait for the real and healthy short squeeze in IDCC.

This article at Forbes tells me (assuming that it did the same injustice to this other stock) that this lady does this on a monthly basis to one or other stock and she is still working at Forbes. Is this Forbes second line of business??? Making money by shorting stocks. Just kidding.
You guys have a nice weekend. Good luck to all.

JimLur--My rose colored glasses...Rumor just said unconfirmed speculation that there could be some legal change
to a royalty obligation with Samsung. It could be even positive...but the speculation afforded that it is a lost contract (which we all know is not possible because of arbitration...but it was good enough to cause the price drop).
I love this board.
Thanks for the info and all your efforts JimLur.

All, Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays. EOM
Danny Detail, Yep. Informal phone call should be okay. Probably, he already spoke to Janet many times before starting the coverage. Clarifying the things for him one more time wouldn't hurt, but can make big difference in his approach and analysis.
Thanks!
-vg_future
Danny Detail--good idea, but, if the correspondence goes from Janet, it will be more like an official comment by IDCC. I don't think IDCC would do that. Any projections mentioned in there might become IDCC's official stand. Janet can probably correct the analyst approach by showing past results (a proper breakup of results with all applicable margins, taxes, etc) and suggest applying them to future. Even this approach might not be acceptable to Janet/IDCC.
IMHO, sending it directly with softer language (as someone suggested) would do the magic.
Happy Holidays Everybody!

From rmarchma's post 52584....regarding licensees
From rmarchma's conversation with IR yesterday
Of course I asked if IDCC felt that they could still get license agreements before year-end, and if anything unexpected had blown-up any anticipated licensing deals. Janet said that they were still real close and not far apart at all with some potential licensees on getting agreements done.
IDCC delivered the first one...Congratulations to all....is there another one coming pretty soon. Hoping.
Good luck all. Awaiting white christmas.

infinite_q. Thanks. I appreciate it. EOM
Question...what is Lucent producing right now that needs to be licensed? Anybody has ideas as to how much of financial impact a license with Lucent might have going forward or is it just for past usage. I am not getting carried someone posting their hunches, rumors or opinions. I am only trying to understand what is Lucent's liability.
Good luck all...awaiting a white christmas.

Forbes article...Probably, first we should take care of enemies within before we handle the alleged crooks from Europe. Are we missign something here or these guys completely shut their ears and mind for reasoning. Isn't Forbes the one which said couple of weeks that IDCC is very undervalued considering the P/E ratio (correct me if I am wrong...IDCC appeared in one of the articles that listed companies that are trading with low P/E of the 2004 earnings). I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion...but painting a grim picture for an American company (without getting facts straight) and portraying the big bullies (NOK, ERICY & others) as victims is bad. I really doubt the intentions of this author. I hope (if there is a superlative degree for wish ... I "superlative degree of wish") IDCC shows these guys who is who and what is what (even if it involves severly damaging the authors reputation, if there is one, preferrable irreparable) and come out with flying colors.
Good luck to everyone. I hope the last trade of 2300 at 20.25 Ah on Friday is by someone in the know of something coming up this week.

Clarification needed---Sorry if I missed this.
There was something in the yahoo news this morning regarding IDCC financials.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=idcc
Does anyone know its significance?
Thanks!
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Ghors, Chartex and Jaykayjones--Thanks for your efforts. I don't think the price would drop tomorrow. I accept the fact that it looks like Lynn is letting conditional access to certain docs but the clause that it would be done on arbitrators request makes me think that it went IDCC way. Now, NOK has to convince the arbitrators that the docs are required (which is not easy as per IDCC's claims). The only negative thing that I see in this is the duration of process....for people expecting the closure of the whole arbitration ordeal before it starts (with a settlement offer from NOK), now the wait time has been set in the hands of the arbitration panel.
As it was said in the CC, no effect of this outcome on IDCC's position. I really believe that (I don't care even if I am wrong). With new deals just around the corner, it should be a really white and blessed christmas (I would love to have something for the Thanksgiving, though).
Good luck all.

Anyone, Is there any importance in the timing of this new 8K?
From the timing perspective, is IDCC forced to go to court at this moment? I was hoping that there is more to this legal initiative than what the eye meets.
Thanks for your replies.

Is IDCC trading back into that mode where the 100 share bombs decide the closing price for the day? When will the street understand IDCC potential....just venting out.
Sorry.

redhot- that's what I kepp wondering about. Isn't a board member answerable for his actions? I beleive they all receive some sort of compensation from IDCC for being on the board...aren't they supposed to do some work for what they are being paid. Am I missing something here.
Any ideas.....

JimLur, Little humor goes long way. Thanks. EOM
sjratty, zitboy - I believe that my optimism is not completely baseless and moreover I don't like kicking someone when there spirits are down. Is it facing reality...yes and no. Investment should be done based on your own DD not just based on someones optimism (is anyone acting on my optimism? I don't think so..I don't have that much following on this board). I believe that proper decisions can be taken when someone is in their proper mind set not when they are down and full of beaten emotions. I take reality with a pinch of optimism in this case.
My optimism is not baseless...here is why. When we heard the rumor of Ericy settlement followed by postponement of the trial date, we assumed that settlement was not done. How do we know for sure? We only heard of settlement rumor but haven't heard anything about how it is being accomplished. Probably postponing the trial date is the first part of the settlement process (I remember the discussion about how IDCC was comfortable with the postponement) so that they can get enough time to jot down the agreement.
I, for one, still beleive that the Ericy settlement rumor had some air to it.

-vg_future
freegem- that is exactly what I was thinking. What if this move is to get things out into light before the settlement with NOK is announced. I thought that IDCC approached Samsung with a tentative rate from NOK. Probably I am being too optimistic....but it doesn't hurt.

I thought HG's purchase was exercising of options not an open market purchase. I am not sure if the one month window rules apply to the options that get exercised.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Mshere- Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to wait till it becomes public info then.
-vg_future
Nieves- Thanks. Good call mshere. Does anybody know the target that gave with the "neutral" rating?
Thanks!
-vg_future
Question- Can IDCC do anything to stop this drop...like buying back shares in the open market? Or the rules stop them from doing so since they will be announcing good results within 2 weeks (I am taking for granted that we had a good quarter)?
Long & Strong!

Question- Regarding Samsung settling within 120 days timeframe. If NOK didn't agree to a rate yet (assuming that they are still working on it...probably they already did and we don't know yet), how can Samsung agree to one? I thought that the outcome of the IDCC/SAM arbitration was that they will get the NOK rate. Did I miss any minor twist in the arbitration ruling?

teecee- Thanks! I guess that would be a better option. Atleast I can buy some piece of mind and still go with the general drift.

-vg_future
teece-you said buyers are holding us at $25. Do you see lot of buying interest at that price because of which probably MMs are holding down the price? It is not making much sense to me. Could you please explain. If there is lot of buying interest, we would have been easily over a buck...if not pricing appreciation we would have seen more volume atleast (maybe around a million or so). I know that IDCC is slowly drawing wallstreets attention...but I guess everyone agrees that IDCC deserves a lot more than what it is getting now.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Nieves. Thanks. That's exactly where I was confused. Probably they upgraded it when giving the EPS estimates or else whatever we saw on last Friday was a mistake/confusion (the confusion between PiperJaffray and SalmonSmith).
Can anyone else clarify this? Thanks in advance.

Nieves. Is this the same coverage that we got on last Friday? I thought that the recommendation was "Outperform" then and now it shows "Buy". Can you clarify?

DannyDetail. I guess I am wearing my rose colored glasses all the time ...because I took it as you meant steady growth instead of explosive growth. So, steady growth could be $70 appreciation in 6 months rather than in a week as in 1999-2000 market boom. So, let's have Houston 100 sometime this year or early 2004 instead of this week itself.
Good luck everyone. Have a nice weekend.

DannyDetail. Thanks, you too have a great weekend. EOM

DannyDetail - I guess so. So, there is room for upgrade and once we reach the top most rating the target price can always be revised higher.
I like the thought.
