Anyone, What are the expectations out of today's PJ presentation? Is this one of those regular company update presentations to investing firms or does it play any significance bcoz it is so close to the ASM?
TIA.

habu, biggeneg, Ahha! I figured it out. Iraq first needs to stabilize before we could see stability in IDCC. No offense intended.
Good luck all!

tfwg, I guess it is just lack of interest in IDCC coupled with a really bad market. No matter how Howard says what he wants to say (whether in a safe way or not), fundamentals will have to catch up at some point. We do have fundamentals, but why are we still here.....the best answer is the confidence that the investors have in the "general lack of interest"....I guess they are too confident that they can get in at a cheaper rate or they can easily catch the train when it starts moving (they are not worried that they will miss the train....past is sometimes a difficult thing to erase).
Sometimes I think the potential NOK license is actually killing us. We would have been in a better position if the NOK license issue is not there on the screen anywhere (if it is not there, then investors cannot take the excuse of NOK not signing to beat the stock). We would have definitely had better multiples for our revenues.
Good Luck All!

loophole, Thanks for the clarification. EOM
teecee, Hopefully we will be able to trace the money to some significant new license.

Question, How did the cash position increase? From the press release In addition, InterDigital reported its cash and short-term investment position grew to $125.4 million at March 31, 2004, up $19.4 million over year-end 2003
Where did this extra money come from? Did we sign any new license that made an upfront payment? Or is this the Sharp license agreement payment?
Thanks!

Bid - Ask is showing as 17.62 - 17.42 on Datek and Nasdaq.com. Does anybody have a correct bid-ask numbers?
Thanks!

rmarchma, Thanks for the detailed explanation. So, adding a new licensee will keep us comfortably (rather than just crossing the flow positive line) over the breakeven point. After reading the Hutchison's deal with LG, LG would certainly seem like an excellent addition (it is attractive as such with its CDMA phones and this deal makes it more attractive going into 3G) from Asia and it is a well known company too as promised by IDCC.
Appreciate your contributions to the board.
Thanks again.

rmarchma, do you think with the recent qtr update from IDCC (earning about 31 - 32 mil), IDCC still needs to signup a new licensee to acheive the cach flow positive state that it mentioned? Sorry, if you already covered this in one of your messages...if so, could redirect me to that post.
Thanks a bunch in advance.

jai, really well said. EOM
jai, Thanks for the response. I was feeling as if we are being manipulated obviously because of lack of knowledge. Thanks for the detailed insight.
-vg_future
Will there be an end to this manipulation ever or is this how any stock trades and it is just my misunderstanding of the stock trading fundamentals? The update from the company the other day scared the shorts like hell and I thought they would think twice before manipulating the stock again. But, looks like they are back to their games again this morning. Hopefully they get the shock of their lifetime next week.

JimLur, in your post yesterday regarding your conversation with Janet Point you mentioned the ball is in management's court...is that a quote from Janet or is it something that you felt. I guess I am trying to read tea leaves again....we are all pretty good at that.
Thanks for all your efforts and time.
-vg_future
JimLur, Thanks for your follow up. EOM
Thanks JimLur. EOM
JimLur, Have you heard anything from Janet Point regarding the supposed error in the proxy about the no. of outstanding shares? If you have already provided this info, could you direct me to that message.
Thanks!

Modified quotation ....
If a few are shorting the stock, then it is their problem.
If many are shorting the stock, then it is the stock's problem.
Every Tom, Dick and Harry thinks that they can short this stock and get away by taking the stock for a ride....and the sad thing is that they are able to do so.
I wonder why the "Unpredictabilty" is so "Predictable" with this stock.
Long and Strong! (taking energy pills to stay strong)

olddog967, Thanks again! I really appreciate it.
-vg_future
olddog967, Thanks! What is a "tax conditioned plan"? Some of the companies give stocks to their employees at around 15% discount to the market value and the market value is decided as the lowest closing price over a given quarter or period. But employees should determine a predetermined amount to be taken out of their pay checks to participate in such plan. Is the restricted stock grant/purchase similar to this?
Thanks for the information.

Nobody commented out on bunch of 401(k) purchases by IDCC management. Everyone was so taken by yesterday's compensation announcement, that practically no discussion went onto these purchases that took place in past one week (were filed yesterday). Isn't that a good sign that this time around we are seeing lot of confidence from the management. Correct me if these are just grants. I thought since they showed up under their 401(K)s, they must have been purchases rather than grants.
Good Luck All!

Is Michael Walkley from RBC the same guy who is covering IDCC? Since he is also covering SWIR, he should be able to guesstimate the impact of this upward revision from SWIR on IDCC.
Good luck all!
-vg_future
mschere, Well said. Also, IDCC was out of its mind when it brought back shares at a more than fair value (at around 17) not at an undervalued value. Yaa, management thinks so.
Ed, your pain train heading the wrong way.

Anyone, Do we have any WiMAX related IP? If this is already answered, can someone direct me to that message.
Thanks!

teecee - It might have worked better than a bandaid had the PR said something like "Sharp license agreement extended to include so and so..." rather than "Sharp license has been amended". It might not have stopped the blood shed but it would have minimized it. Anyway, analysts will view it in the right perspective and give us the deserved credit (hoping????!!!!)

JimLur - regarding the sharp news. I sometimes wonder how can someone be so bum and yet get paid for that. That defies logic and rational thinking and hence I think there should be a stronger reason for the release. I hope they have something up their sleeves to show and that would solve the riddle (if there is one). Or else, as usual, I would just accept that it is really a stupid move (person/persons responsible for that decision should really be shown the door).
Waiting for sunshine!!

rmarchma, mshere -- we all appreciate your good work. Tiny minds (I doubt even if they have one) try to find someone to blame for their incapabilities. Please ignore them. Longs are with you guys and enjoy your posts.
GoodLuck all...need it now more than ever.
-vg_future
Can't yesterdays Sharp news release be used as an excellent cover up? Why did they release it yesterday? Is there more to this?
-vg_future
dmiller - That I never understood. IDCC has its own way of dealing with things and sometimes I think I am too little to understand and see the bigger picture. Probably they just finalized the deal. Let's see.
-vg_future
Oso - When someone doesn't have enough gas in the tank, they would rather announce such good news at the same time that they say that they don't have gas in the tank. That would make more sense and would work as a makeup for the lack of luster in the results. My bet would be that they have more stuff to share tomorrow morning. Had this news come this morning, it would have helped the stock. Anyway, board gurus will be giving a more intelligent analysis soon (I am hoping).
GoodLuck All!

OT JayKayJones, I don't have private message capability...so, sending you a public message. WSAccess is not as big as Ameritrade...so, even though I hadn't had enough experience with WSAccess yet (only a week as of today), I personally think that the order execution will be much more efficient with Ameritrade or some other bigger firm (they might have more MMs to route the orders). My main driving force for the move to WSAccess is option trading. I wanted to get more potential with the limited finances that I have. You might want to try ETrade, TDWaterhouse or some other bigger firm too. I heard that one of these guys allows limited option trading (purchase of leaps in addition to the covered call writing that even Ameritrade allows). When I moved, I didn't have enough time to do the research to catch the option wave before the earnings tomorrow. Hope this earnings report will be a pleasant one for all the longs. Everything seems to be alright (I didn't like some of the online interfaces though) with WSAccess till now, I will let you know if I have any problems in future.
Good Luck. Thanks for all your efforts.

Thanks Nieves & Data, anyone any insights? Does this mean that they are recognizing our 3G portfolio and agreed to pay for that or did we already have this agreement in place without the actual financial details and now they agreed on a rate? Forgive my ignorance, but I am all excited and ready for more good info tomorrow.
GoodLuck All!

jaykayjones & olddog967, option trading in IRA is allowed.
Sorry to jump into your discussion, but, I was under the impression that options cannot be traded in an IRA account (except for selling covered calls) until recently. I just found out that it is just a limitation by the brokerage firm. I had IRA with Datek/Ameritrade till last week and I couldn't trade options in there. But, recently I rolled over my IRA to WallStreet access (wsaccess.com) and they let me trade options like call and put buying and also spreads (with some limitations). I also heard some brokerage firms allow option trading but limited to only leap buying.
Just wanted to give you my first hand experience.
Good luck.

Could this report be the culprit for yesterdays stock price reversal (this report came out yesterday, right)? I guess desperate people always try to hold onto whatever they can and try to bring this stock down whenever possible. Anyway, it is nice to see that IDCC fought these guys out to move up today. Hope the trend continues.
Tom isn't ready to give any credit to IDCC. Currently, he is looking at things differently. Hope he changes his tune with some clarifications from IDCC next week.
Good luck all.
-vg_future
jai, yes, it could be Lucent. My point is that it could be someone else too. Anyway, we will find out one way or the other. I didn't want to rule out the possibility of another license because of Lucent suit (unless we have clear indications saying so).
-vg_future
Let's not assume that the known name that IDCC promised is Lucent. Because by saying so we are saying that the second license is gone case till the case gets resolved. It might be someone else. If I missed anything, please correct me.
GoodLuck IDCC and GoodLuck everybody.

rmarchma, ThankYou for your insight. Appreciate it. EOM

rmarchma - Thanks for the nice summary of your conversation with Janet. We all appreciate it.
Could I get your opinion on the following....I can understand if you choose not to express your opinion too.
Can you attribute anything covered in your conversation to the recent spike in the volume (like advanced stages of discussions for licensing or product partnership)? OR could it be because of interest from institutions? Just your opinion....if your policy is not to post or add fuel to the rumors....it is perfectly understandable.
My take is that we will get some announcement during next week in Cannes.
Thanks!

Short interest--to add to what chinookslayer reported. Short interest went down from 4.11 million to 3.96 million. Around 140,000 shares were covered. Let's see if we can get a squeeze out of the remaining.
