jaykayjones & olddog967, option trading in IRA is allowed.
Sorry to jump into your discussion, but, I was under the impression that options cannot be traded in an IRA account (except for selling covered calls) until recently. I just found out that it is just a limitation by the brokerage firm. I had IRA with Datek/Ameritrade till last week and I couldn't trade options in there. But, recently I rolled over my IRA to WallStreet access (wsaccess.com) and they let me trade options like call and put buying and also spreads (with some limitations). I also heard some brokerage firms allow option trading but limited to only leap buying.
Just wanted to give you my first hand experience.
