Nice find............... here's where it's THE EPA STUPID needs to be communicated loudly again. I am astounded by the fact that they cite the Jellis study which did not use a placebo yet with a smaller EPA dose had significant CVD benefits...... then they cite the REDUCE-IT study which had a larger dose of EPA yet the reasons for the differences in the EPA group and EPA+DHA group are unclear. Where do these people go to school? On Sesame Street? With all due respect to Sesame Street of course.
"Results from the Japan EPA Lipid Intervention Study in 2007 supported the growing body of evidence that LC omega-3s reduce the risk of heart disease, especially in people with a history of coronary artery disease [56]. In this study, 18,645 people with hypercholesterolemia (total cholesterol of at least 251 mg/dL) with or without coronary artery disease received either 1.8 g/day EPA plus a statin or a statin only. After a mean of 4.6 years, the EPA group had 19% fewer major coronary events than the control group. The EPA group also experienced a significant reduction in rates of unstable angina and nonfatal coronary events but not in rates of sudden cardiac death or coronary death in comparison with the control group.
In an analysis of the primary prevention subgroup from this study (participants with no history of coronary artery disease), EPA supplementation had no significant effects on any outcome. However, for the secondary prevention subgroup (those with a history of coronary artery disease), the EPA group had a 28% reduction in the rate of unstable angina and a 19% reduction in that of major coronary events. A separate analysis of data from this study found that the EPA supplementation did not affect total stroke incidence but did reduce the risk of recurrent stroke by 20% in patients who had previously experienced a stroke [57]."
"However, both the REDUCE-IT and STRENGTH studies used similar doses of omega-3s (4 g/day) but reported significant CVD benefit in the former and none in the latter. The reasons for the different results are not clear, but a partial explanation—beyond differences in the omega-3 formulation (ethyl ester EPA vs. carboxylic acid EPA and DHA) and the baseline health of the study population—may lie with the different placebo comparators used, mineral oil in REDUCE-IT and corn oil in STRENGTH [64,73,74]. Mineral oil is not a neutral placebo; it affects lipid levels and inflammatory markers and may inhibit the absorption of statin drugs. Therefore, in REDUCE-IT, differences in CVD events between the treatment and placebo groups would likely be smaller if a more neutral placebo oil had been used."
Yes...... so does normal aging so people need to stay on top of it...... crappy diets and a sedentary lifestyle will result in the need to change your diet so either get busy living or get busy dying (Shawshank Redemption ref).
JRoon, no worries.....I agree that V will benefit those who are on their way to developing atherosclerosis.... I was just pushing back on this statement below about science pretty much proving those that eat mostly red meat will suffer serious heart disease. You actually have half of it right. The fact that the variations of those diets help people lose weight and keep them from eating processed junk and sugar, is what will dramatically reduce their chances of having CVD issues. So if you really dig into the science that associates the red meat with heart disease, you will find it's very flawed and founded on flawed studies. Unlike Reduce-It which was a very robust study.
"Yes, the carnivore diet and other no-carb diet variations help people lose weight and keep them from eating processed junk and sugar. But science pretty much proves out that many will eventually suffer serious heart disease as a result."
JRoon...... you could not be more wrong..... science has not shown anything of the sort.....there are competing studies all the time and you have to ask yourself, who sponsored the studies? Reduce-It was a double blind, placebo controlled study that was peer reviewed and punched and poked..... that is a study you can believe and trust and that is the only kind of study you can trust.
I agree but it won't be due to people on the "carnivore" diet. We eat all meats not just red meats. My Trigs are 40 and HDL is 90. It's all of the insulin resistant folks that are dealing with blood sugar issues and diabetes due to diet and now trying Wegovy and Ozempic..... wait until they start experiencing the long term effects of those drugs.
You need not worry Triple88......... CVD is not going away anytime soon.... it's only getting worse. You have our global ministries of health always pushing the outdated food pyramid and advocating less meats and saturated fats and more grains, nuts, fruits, and vegetables....... couple that with the majority of people live a sedentary lifestyle and it's no wonder Cardiovasular Disease is the number one killer in the world...... V is safe and very very unknown at this time.......... we need some advertising that states....... taking V while also taking a statin with proper diet and moderate exercise has been shown to promote weight loss. It's one of those 'duh, that's obvious" statements but people are so dumb these days, they jump on anything that says weight loss.
Let them buyback 100M shares....... I'd be fine with that for sure........ let's get the damn authorization in place and start buying.
Rose, they are probably citing this article.....
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/earnings-amarin-corporation-plc-nasdaq-130013634.html
These short term moves don't bother me.... I'm in this until it plays out. Nothing has changed to the negative.... Europe is gaining traction, more articles come out regarding the benefits of V as a therapy, they'll tell 2 friends and they'll tell 2 friends.....if you're a trader, then you can care about the daily fluctuations.....as an investor, I don't.
Not a lot to pounce on......we won't be falling much.
That's a question I wish was asked to Holt...... next Q I will submit it. "What is managements view of why so many generics have entered a market that is limited to the treatment of high triglycerides. If the answer is they are also trying to get a piece of the CVD market then what are you doing to defend that market and punish infringement. "
A few of these articles will help keep the price stable or better....
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amarins-amrn-q4-earnings-revenues-143000407.html
"The company reported full-year 2023 adjusted earnings of 3 cents against the previous year’s adjusted loss of 12 cents."
There's always a buyer....... it's just a matter of price.
Well DAR, one thing we know is the market is irrational...... I was hoping for some upside numbers above the pre-release but I should know by now that they never happen with AMRN. We do a pre-release every quarter and nothing really changes for the actual. With that said, I didn't see anything worse than what was stated at the pre-release so I treated it like the stock went on sale again. I will keep accumulating at perceived dips. Holt is extremely incentivized to get the share price up so I'm going to gamble that he has a plan to do so.
I fit the definition DAR....... bought another 1000 shares to add to my existing pile of misery.
Oh well.... I'll be an optimist and say "at least they can buy back more shares for $50 mil now :-P
Well DAR, it was worth a shot......some day we will get an upside surprise. I hope it's soon.
Excellent summary table........ antibluechip.
Kiwi, it's probably worth revisiting the EVAPORATE study findings. The whole point of the study was to determine the effects of V on plaque in the arteries. I don't recall the specifics of calcified plaque versus any other plaques but it was very encouraging as I recall.
Skip, you are so right....... I remind myself though that we are are only scratching the surface with the potential of this drug and the markets we are in.... if we can get solid traction and growth in the EU, China, and ROW, it will have been well worth the wait and all the averaging down I've done.
Captn, another excellent contribution to trying to align the FDA with reality....... they really are deficient in staying current with the science. Our taxpayer dollars at work.
Excellent post DMC8..... very informative. LDL get's a bad rap when in fact it's critical to good cellular function. The problem is when it get's damaged. So one of the key mechanisms of action seems to be that it is 75% effective at keeping your LDL from being oxidized. Maybe that's the magic of V.
It usually stops as soon as you are frustrated enough to sell your shares. It quadruples the next day.
I will not be surprised at a correction........ it's clear that the Fed is in no hurry to lower interest rates because inflation is not co-operating.
Wow Zip..... that's fantastic..... best of health to you.
Light volume day again but 500 of those are mine. I bought at $1.20 so it's pegged there. The stock gods do not favor me.
About time......seriously, there were trades of 2, 5, 6 shares at a time.... maybe even 1 share unless my eyes were playing tricks on me.
I'd still need to have my Dr provide an off label script, correct?
So true Jasbg........ but it's just one of those stages in life that you have to pass through
I take Ultra EPA Concentrate 500mg x 4 because I don't have a script for V.
That happened to me in my teens.......
No kidding Nukem....... I'm seeing huge 2 share, 4 share, 6 share blocks being traded...... it's like trading is halted with leaks
Totally....... most studies are sponsored by a BP that benefits if the results fit their hypothesis. If the results don't fit, the results are buried or stated as 'need further studies"....
Gussettville, I hope that gets resolved for you and your father get his V much cheaper. I like that fact this his Dr prescribed V as a preventive measure. I'm impressed by the the fact that your dad is 87 and lifelong LDL over 250...... since he can't tolerate statins (which are over prescribed anyway) is another example of his LDL cholesterol level isn't going to be a cause of CVD issues..... everything I read tells me that older people with high cholesterol tend to live longer than those without it. Your dad is a great example of that. I wish him the best.
Great song lizzy..... I heard it earlier this week
Warm up the private jet Lizzy........ once this thing takes off towards an overpriced BP buyout, we're picking up a few of these posters that we haven't put on ignore and partying somewhere in the world.
Threat of delisting gone for awhile and Holt buying shares should create a tailwind today and tomorrow.
I'm with you Jasbg...... I'm one of those fishies....
Watching the volume on Yahoo finance for AMRN....... it's like watching fish nibbling on a worm.....22 shares.....5 shares.... lame
Capt'n..... you rock! Your illustration skills are awesome.
