The advisor says it will work...
The Raptor got here in the blink of an eye (10,000 RPM will do that).
The OS and memory haven't been delivered yet.
Hi Bruce!
We lost our Comcast on Sunday. The tech just left. Whatever took out the old modem, took out our printer with it. He thinks maybe a surge got past out surge protector. For whatever reason, he couldn't re-install our printer/fax machine.
Thanks for the update advisor.
Hi Don...
Met an IT guy this morning who is in agreement with you and Bruce that this will work.
Ordered the 8GB of memory today and a static electricity grounding wrist band.
I'll borrow the duck from the signature line on the posts from Bruce if I get stuck.
Thanks!
On that ASUS spec list...
It tells me the ASUS P5N-E-SLI motherboard only supports Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Do you think this upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit will work on this motherboard?
Ok, that's good...
Just one Velociraptor.
The memory according to these specs will hold 8GB of the 800 RAM:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5NE_SLI/#specifications
I'll get 8GB of these for my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit:

She's gonna fly!
Hi Bruce...
On the 160GB hard drive you put in 5 years ago, I still have 103 GB's of free space.
The new drive came today and I ordered the Windows 7 Home Premiun Edition today.
I'm still watching for this memory to go on sale, but don't know if it will:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
Wasn't sure if I should upgrade the speed of the memory to these. I noticed the voltage is different then the memory currently still installed.:

The Raptor is still in the box on the table. I'm going to wait until I have everything and do it all at once.
I do have an external hard drive that I can put all my needed document and photos on, then I could swap out the drives and do a clean install without ghost.
Does that make sense?
If putting 2 Raptors in there make sense, I can order another one. Not sure that I really need 4 of them.
Thanks for your replies.
I can't find the words to properly express my sorrow.
In addition to the 20.00 off discount today...
they also threw in McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2013.
It's a $39.99 freebie, but I don't know what I'm going to do with it.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials as long as I don't use CCleaner. LOL.
Yes. I talked to the Microsoft store about the Win7. They are out of stock on the Win7 Home Premium and not sure when they'll get it. Customers have been o waiting over a month already. He said they have the Win7 full version for 199.99.
He did say the Windows 8 was on sale for 69.99.
I said I haven't heard good things about Win 8. He tried to be a salesman to give it a good sale, but I wasn't interested.
Wow...
The 300GB, 10,000RPM Velociraptor is in my hands.
Thanks Newegg!
It "sure does" go on sale?
Or it "sure does" seem to be the favorite?
Not sure if the DDR2 memory will go on sale...
I'm going to upgrade from 2GB to 8GB.
This seems to be the favorite over at Newegg:

Windows 7 Home Premium on sale today at Newegg.
Windows 7 Home Premium on sale today at Newegg.
LOL!
Take precautions against static electricity
such as?
I'll be working on mine soon.
Thanks!
Are you saying 4...
because of the storage capacity or is their something else (as I try to sound like I know what I'm talking about)?
Would 2 give you the security from whole disk failure?
4710 for Appleriver today.
4 of them???
I still have 149GB of free space on the 160GB hard drive you put in there 5 years ago.
set them in RAID Zero. Then move the OS and data over to them using Ghost.
This is why I'm crying.
Haven't a clue about what you just said.
On the outskirts of the Windy City...
A bored man, now sits crying.
Who in their right mind, would take a perfectly good Terminator from the sandhills of North Florida and think he can make it better?
What could he have been thinking?

300GB and 10,000 RPM is on it's way.
Windows 7 goes on sale Friday.
I'm doomed.
This looks like a good deal...

I spent a week trying to get MSE re-installed after CCleaner messed me up...
I had to go into the registry and delete a key. Then I was able to re-install MSE.
Ran CCleaner again this past weekend and poof, my MSE was gone again. Got it back a lot quicker.
I came across something in my searches telling me to un-click one of the checkmarks in CCleaner, but I'll have to search that later.
Google shows a lot of people have had issues with the 2 together.
It is version 3.25.1872
I never used it before...
just downloaded it 2 weeks ago.
I learned this weekend that MSE does have issues when used together with CCleaner.
Hi Cassandra...
I have Windows XP running on my computer.
I recently had an issue with my Microsoft Security Essentials becoming disabled when I downloaded and used CCleaner.
In the process, I had to un-install my MSE.
I used this to uninstall the last hidden bits:
http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
Are you getting an error code?
Hi redfisher...
I'm getting your messages. Thank you.
I did contact Shelly. I'm sure she will take care of things.
Revo Uninstaller came in handy this past week...
http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html
Got out the last bits and pieces that were hidden.
LOL, yea...
I learned to walk away from the desk. I think the fear came from not wanting to screwing up a good machine. As the days dragged on, I tried what I spotted a couple days earlier.
The assault I put on it yesterday was to either crash it or fix it.
Either way, it was going to be done yesterday and it was.
Wow...
I was feeling pretty chipper about fighting my way out of a small pile of crap I got myself into and right away I moved my sights on upgrading my memory and OS from XP to 7.
Then I read posts like yours, I feel I ain't even close to knowing what I'm doing.
I know just enough to be dangerous to any computer within arms reach. LOL.
To the family of Jim (blacktruck)...
My condolences to you during this difficult time.
Jim truly had joy in helping others here learn to fish. His generosity has fed many for a lifetime.
He will be missed.
Thanks Bruce!
I'm thinking 4 of these sticks (4 X 2GB = 8GB) will do:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
The G.SKILL memory seems to be very popular at Newegg.
Not sure what the max is for the motherboard.
The memory currently in Apple River is CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory.
Still green and green is good!
Amazing how dependant we are on our computers. Fortunately, this one has been a gem from the sandhills of North Florida.
That was one of thre first symptoms.
Today, I am back in business.
The MSE tent remaind green after scan. Now MWB is running a full span.
The MSE full scan just completed. Tent is green. Going to just watch it a while.
Will Hitman Pro conflict with MSE or MWB?
I meant I ran MWB last week and it didn't show any bugs.
Sure does seem like that's the case...
I ran Malwarebytes last week as that's what it seemed like.
I'll see what's up after it finishes it's full scan on MSE.
I see Hitman Pro in my future.
Aaarrrgghhh...
Enter that post, turned around to the other computer and my ex-green flag in orange.
Crap.
This all started last week and it may have started when I upgraded to Advanced System Care 6.
When I upgraded to ASC 6, the program froze and did nothing, so I yanked it back out.
I loaded Ccleaner instead and that's where I figured my problems started.
My MSE tent turned to orange and I couldn't get it to stay green.
I think I'm back to there again.
It's currently doing a full scan.
The saga will be continued...
