excel, I have wonderful memories of WW II. We were living in Salem, Ill on Pearl Harbor Day. I don't remember the event, but I have vivid memories of Memorial Day 1942. Dad had rented a spot for our18' trailer, next to the cemetery.

Memorial Day was wall to wall old a new soldiers. Kids, me included were given flags to put at graves. Then there were frequent bond drive with militry bands. Patriotism RULED!!!

On August 6, 1945, my Aunt read to her two sons and me about the first atom bomb. On August 16, 1945, the radio announced that Japan had surrendered!

Houses emptied and the streets with joyous Americans! One of my fondest memories!

Houses had Silver and Gold Sars in their windows. Silver foreach family member that was serving. Gold Stars for each family memder that had been KIA.

An AdHoc choir formed and they sang The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America, at every house with a star.

Towaard the end of the War, Kate Smith came out with her God Bless America. It was played at some point during all movies.

Any of y'all that haven't seen it, watch it on You Tube and piture a little 8 year old Okie boy watching families come to the doors of those homes with the Gold Stars. Picture that little boy with tears of joy streaming
