The father of the man accused of gunning down two Jewish people on a street in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night attended President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress in March as a far-left Democratic lawmaker’s special guest.


Democratic Illinois Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García, a member of the left-wing Congressional Progressive Caucus, invited Eric Rodriguez, a former Iraq War Army veteran and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) hospital employee, to attend president’s speech to Congress on March 3. The VA worker’s son, Elias Rodriguez, fatally shot two Israeli embassy staffers outside of an event promoting Jewish heritage just miles from the U.S. Capitol, less than three months later.

“Eric Rodriguez was our guest during the President’s Joint Speech to Congress, but we don’t know his family,” a spokesperson for García told the New York Post, who first reported the connection to García, Thursday evening.

García said in a March 3 statement that he invited Rodriguez to attend the president’s address in an act of protest against the Department of Government Efficiency’s reforms to the VA. The Illinois Democrat also heralded the terrorist’s father as “the very best of our community” and an “outspoken advocate against attacks on veterans’ services and the rights of unionized federal employees.”


“His presence at the Joint Address is a powerful statement: we will not sit back while veterans and workers are treated as political pawns,” García said in a statement before the president’s speech to Congress. “With leaders like Eric and the power of our unions, we’re fighting back stronger than ever.”

Rodriguez, a member of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), also appeared in a video posted to the massive labor union’s Facebook account on March 4.

“I’ve been with the VA for three years and the reason I’m in Washington, D.C. is because I’m concerned about what Donald Trump, Elon Musk and DOGE are doing to the VA system.”


An SEIU-aligned Instagram account also referred to Rodriguez as García’s “special guest” at the president’s joint address.

Authorities charged Rodriguez’s son, Elias, with two counts of first-degree murder and other charges, including the murder of foreign officials, after he executed Sarah Milgrim, 26, and Yaron Lischinsky, who was 30 according to multiple reports, — a soon-to-be-engaged couple — outside of the Capitol Jewish Museum.

Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the terror suspect may face the death penalty during a press conference Thursday.

“I strongly condemn this horrible, senseless act of antisemitism,” García said in a statement following the fatal shooting. “My heart is with the victims and everyone impacted by the attack. We mourn the lives lost and reject the idea that justice can be won through violence.”

Vice President Vance waded into the tug-of-war between the courts and executive branch in an interview published earlier this week, warning that the courts should pull back or risk stepping on the will of the American people.

Job-Hunting Rahm Emanuel: The Face of Stuck-in-the-Mud Democrats

Democratic voters may love their grassroots radicals, but the party elites don't care.

If you had to summarize the predicament confronting the Democratic Party as its members stumble through the political wilderness, Rahm Emanuel saying that his good friend David Axelrod put him up to the job would do nicely. The party’s activist grassroots base yearns for systemic progressive change – but it remains bogged down by connected establishment insiders who have no plans of relinquishing power to the new blood anytime soon.

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, also known as ex-President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, might be running for president in 2028. Then again, maybe he’ll run for governor of Illinois – or senator. Who knows? When asked if he might be mulling a 2028 White House run, he told the hosts of ABC’s The View: “I am in training – I don’t know if I’ll make the Olympics.” So yes, he’s considering it – but there are other options to weigh as well.

Rahm Emanuel: Just Put Me Somewhere

Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker’s second term expires in January 2027, and there is nothing to prevent him from seeking a third four-year tenure except higher political ambition. Pritzker, who governs as a social leftist but is also a multibillionaire with strong establishment ties, is eying a 2028 presidential campaign of his own, and one man is urging him to go for it.

“Third terms are notoriously perilous, and things that can go wrong tend to go wrong in third terms,” David Axelrod, former chief strategist and senior advisor to Obama, told WBEZ Radio in Chicago on May 13. “If your attention is divided between running for president, which is a hellacious job in itself, and … dealing with crises at home, that is a very difficult balance to strike.”

Wait a second. He has an idea.

“I honestly think time may be better spent for him if he wants to run for president, traveling the country and interacting with people and not just speaking, but listening. It would enrich him as a candidate and give him a head start,” Axelrod, who now serves as a CNN commentator, continued.

It would also get him out of the way, Pritzker noted. “David’s a friend of mine. Here’s what I can say,” the governor told CNN in reply to Axelrod’s remarks. “I think he has in mind the idea that his friend Rahm Emanuel would like to run for governor of Illinois.”

Is it that obvious? Yes, it is. Last November, Emanuel briefly flirted with the notion of becoming Democratic National Committee chair before backing away, partly due to progressive opposition.

“I never even thought of the DNC until my best friend [Axelrod] decided to float it out there,” Emanuel bluntly admitted to NBC 5 TV in Chicago on December 3.

Do you see the problem here?

Political lifer Emanuel, who had been serving as ambassador to Japan in the Biden administration, needs a new gig, and he is leaning on his blue power player “best friend” to nail one down for him. DNC? Eh, guess not. What about the US Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)? That might be nice. Or perhaps a governorship if Pritzker doesn’t run again? Sounds intriguing. Or maybe the Democratic White House nomination in 2028?

“You can put on your dancing shoes, your best smile. I’m not doing that. We’ll see. I have to talk to people that live here,” Emanuel said to NBC 5. That quote certainly says a mouthful. He is conceding that selling himself to the general public is not the way to go here. Private conversations with “people” is the right approach. But who are these people? Given his decades-long insider standing, an average voter on the street is unlikely to be a part of the equation.

Democrats Are Your Father’s Oldsmobile

A hard-boiled political veteran like Rahm Emanuel knows that prominent Democratic candidates are selected, not elected. The man has been in and out of the White House since the Clinton administration; he understands how political machines work. And that sums up the disastrous position Democrats as a national party find themselves in today. They remain stuck in the world of 2012, where a Mitt Romney could be anointed as a presidential nominee for one of two major political parties in the United States with absolutely no grassroots support – or a Hillary Clinton in 2016.



It’s a deliberate refusal to acknowledge that the populist phenomenon of Donald Trump ever happened – that he wasn’t a far-right coup manufactured by Russia and that the American people, on a very basic level, avidly supported his outsider ascendancy to the White House. Remarkably, this mindset gives more credence to the notion that Joe Biden’s controversial 2020 election will prove far more damaging to Democratic politicians in the long run than to Trump.

Trump doesn’t even have to try to stick one of his devastating labels on the elites of the Democratic Party. They’ve made themselves the party of an old-guard way of practicing politics that Americans not only have no interest in but emphatically despise.

Here’s a sobering statistic to contemplate: Three senior citizen Democratic House members have died in office this year. And it’s only May. In December, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) successfully leveraged insider baseball to fend off young progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in the race to become the ranking party member of the powerful House Oversight Committee. The 75-year-old then had to step down from that post in April due to esophageal cancer. He died on May 21.

Two months earlier, two other aged Democrats passed while still allegedly representing the citizens of their congressional districts. Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-TX) died at age 70 on March 5, and Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) died at age 77 on March 13.

Does this sound like a dynamic party of the future?

As long as establishment ladder-climbing dinosaurs like Rahm Emanuel can count on their “best friends” in high places to help them advance in party circles, the Democratic Party’s fadeout to total irrelevance will continue unabated.

JACK POSOBIEC: The Left’s Cognitive Dissonance Has Turned To Violence

The Left has lost its mind and can’t find its voice. I should know; I just I came face to face with their bare-knuckle tactics. My offense was pointing out political reality.

Specifically, while appointing a rally held by federal union workers, I called out to one of their speakers, Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, “Jamie, why did you lose the popular vote? Why did you lose all seven swing states?” Immediately, I was pummeled and dragged away by a pair of thugs in the crowd while the rest of them shouted abuse.

I’m not bringing this up to lick my wounds. I’m bringing it up because it’s symptomatic of two wider, disturbing, and deeply related trends on the political Left: namely, their cognitive dissonance and their increasing willingness to resort to fists over facts. Which, frankly, anyone should’ve seen coming. The woke Left can’t win the argument, and they know it. What’s more, because the American people know it, too, the Left’s ability to censor their opposition out of existence is gone. So now, because they can’t use the legal force of government, they’ve gone full gangster.

You have only to look at the behavior they praise to see this in action. I hate to give this more airtime, but look at Taylor Lorenz’s schoolgirl gushing about the cold-blooded murderer Luigi Mangione. Look at the near-sainthood conferred on the bloody murderers, kidnappers, and rapists of Hamas in the once-hallowed halls of Harvard. Look at Democratic leaders making martyrs out of the thugs of MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. Look at the outpouring of cash and love for Karmelo Anthony, the boy charged with murdering 17-year-old white teen Austin Metcalf. And, of course, look at the fact that Democrats wish Thomas Matthew Crooks had succeeded. Look at the “assassination culture” which is rising in their party like a cancer.

The reason for this, too, is entirely obvious. They not only have lost the debate; they regard the entire idea of rational debate as inherently suspect. You may not remember this (or may not want to), but back in 2021, the Smithsonian unveiled guidelines for talking about race which included the laughable notion that “objective, rational, linear thinking” is an aspect of “whiteness.” That kind of thinking speaks for too many on the Left.

Imagine what kind of intellectual laziness that attitude produces in a political movement. People who believe that (or something like it) will never try to back up their grievances, or even check if they’re real. They will never look for evidence to support what they say. They will do nothing but take it on faith that whatever the rest of their movement says is axiomatically infallible, and that anyone who refuses to accept this revealed truth must be irredeemably depraved, and insane. Or just “deplorable.”

Now, for a movement which expects to hold power forever because, as Stephen Colbert sneered in 2006, “reality has a well-known liberal bias,” this is understandable. But what happens when reality ceases to cooperate? What happens when this arrogance not only doesn’t pan out, but loses them both the popular vote, and all seven swing states? What happens when the “deplorables” they assumed they could silence and shun suddenly gain the power to knock down their false academic temples, uproot their fake morality, and salt the toxic ground in which it grew with the full approval of the American people? They are left not just without arguments, but without even having learned the ability to argue. All they can do is scream and throw punches. In short, all they can do is show America how stupid – and unstable – they really are. I’m glad I could help reveal that; I’m sure I will not be the last.

Can You Be a Trump-Supporter and a Good Christian?

I was asked this week how I can be a Christian and support Donald Trump throwing out thousands of illegal aliens. But one of the toughest things about being a Christian is trying to be a citizen. No — scratch that. I mean trying to be a good citizen.


Paul was a citizen, too, but I don’t think he cared a bit about the Roman Empire. He gave the impression that if the Gauls invaded tomorrow, he would just shrug his shoulders and try to baptize them, too. And although he was the polar opposite of Thomas Paine in almost every respect, he shared that one annoying and almost liberal quality: that he didn’t view himself a citizen of any country in particular, but a citizen of the world. Except Paine’s world was too small for Paul. Paul viewed himself as the child of the king of the universe.

Governments were thus always too narrow and short-sighted for a man of a truly religious mindset. Even ethnicity and race got the boot when it came down to it. But to be a good citizen requires a whole set of priorities and principles at odds with the whole gist of Christianity, and if you take both seriously, it tends to put you in a state of cognitive dissonance.


For instance, the first priority of government is what all Americans would today call “racism,” but which is the foundational preoccupation with being any organization at all. And that is saying, “We are like this, and because you are like that, you stay over there.” This is the idea behind all borders, motherlands, and voter ID: the fact that zero identity means zero stability, zero safety, and zero power — the antithesis of all political causes. To have a government totally unconcerned with “us” and “them” would be a contradiction in terms, and a scatterbrained majority can be easily upset and conquered by a small, tight-knit, and organized minority.

The second priority of all governments is running things along the lines of what we call “common sense” — the antithesis of the whole Christian vibe. This means we don’t believe in “do not judge”; we hire judges. It means we don’t follow along with “do not worry.” We fight about a budget. Israel is the first and last country to follow a pillar of fire aimlessly through the desert and eat manna off the floor: a government defines its goals and fights over them, because a government without goals is about to be replaced by another government.


A government can’t tell if you’re actually “saved.” A good government cares whether your neighborhood looks like hell, and if you don’t listen to what they say and you resist arrest, they’re okay with sending you there personally. A government doesn’t just give, as Jesus Christ and John the Baptist told us to do. And if it does, a government takes from somebody else first. None of this “he who does not work shall not eat.” A government eats even if nothing inside the government works. In fact, the worse a government works, the starker a contrast exists between those who eat and those who don’t.

Finally, the third priority of all governments is what we call “treachery.” This means that when you’re not a part of the government, and you’re not a part of the citizenry, and you’re clearly opposed to the main goals of the government, hoo, boy, you’d better watch out. Because a government that loves its enemies does not exist.

If a government has an enemy, it does not go the extra mile — unless it’s in the form of a Trojan horse. If a government has an enemy, it turns the other cheek only when it’s forced to. A government doesn’t cast its pearls before swine because a smart government doesn’t tell anybody, especially in war, the whole truth. Its job is to fool the enemy so that nobody knows what it’s really up to, and even in most democratic governments, I think we can agree that this is how it has to treat the citizenry. This is because all governments are a giant backroom deal. To spill the beans about all your plans is to invite not only criticism, but opposition. It means to lose your advantage of not just mystery, but surprise — two things fatal to any enterprising government, even when it’s good.

If an enemy country has a resource, you oftentimes try to take it. If an enemy country has a plan, you try to foil it. If it has secrets, you try to steal them. If it has soldiers, you may eventually have to try to kill them. You can make peace with an enemy nation and maybe even an ally — but only until you don’t need it, and only if you hate somebody else worse. Treachery is so hardwired into the spirit of government that we view people on our team with these traits as heroes — and the man who tries to ban them, like the saint with a “citizen of the world” mentality, is most usually viewed, by even women and children, as a coward, a loser, and a traitor. Because he kinda is.

Put these things up against Christianity, and, quite frankly, you’re left with a big question: Can any man be a good citizen and a good Christian? Is it possible to have a Christian government at all — even in theory? Or is Christianity a movement antithetical to all law and order? In other words, in order to “love your neighbor,” do you have to throw away the neighborhood?

My answer to this is that Christendom isn’t a movement; it’s a moment. It’s that second when you realize God really loves you and so you fall in love with God and do something crazy — and beautiful. Kinda like what God does for you.



Christians are the salt of the earth, not the main dish. Christianity is thus the flavor and not the meal itself. When people say they want a Christian government, they don’t know what they’re asking. They’re asking for that moment where you’re free in the soul, and feeling wild and gracious, to be put into a regimen and forced on other people — whether those people feel it in that moment or not.

You — yourself — can be truly Christian in moments. You can give your money to the poor and turn the other cheek and go the extra mile. You can take the lowest place and bless those who curse you and even put yourself on a cross. But the second we cross from a Christian moment to a Christian government, we don’t get Christ at all. We get the Devil. What we get is you, a person overflowing with spiritual abundance (or maybe the opposite), forcing other people to throw themselves away, too. We have many terms for that. We call it stealing, or tyranny, or slavery, or murder — the very things that government was designed to protect us from.

My belief — and who knows? maybe I’m wrong — is that you can’t love your neighbor if you ruin his country. And the second you cross from giving yourself away to giving your neighbor away, you’re not being Christian at all. You’re being a sanctimonious jerk and a lunatic.

We thus have no way to really synchronize Christianity and government. But I don’t believe we were meant to. As Thomas Paine put it, government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence. It’s a tool for living in a broken world by broken means. And love has always been controversial, because loving somebody always means ignoring or fighting somebody else.

Thankfully, God knows what we’re up against. What we need to pray for is wisdom to choose, at moments, which path to take — and also for a lot of forgiveness. I think we’re all going to need it.
