Sea Dragon plugs Dahab North well, two production deals
2009-02-17 20:34 EST - News Release
Mr. David Thompson reports
SEA DRAGON ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF THE DRILLING PROGRAM ON THE EAST WADI ARABA CONCESSION AND TWO SEPARATE PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT DEALS
The Dahab North prospect was drilled by Sea Dragon Energy Inc. to a final total depth of 9,750 feet MD/8,644 feet TVD using the GSF No. 103 rig and has been fully evaluated by drilling two well bores from the same surface location in order to test Miocene and preMiocene targets. The well encountered two separate reservoirs in the Kareem and Rudeis formations, and hydrocarbons were encountered, however, the hydrocarbons did not meet the company's economic criteria. The company is currently performing plug and abandonment operations.
The company will consider additional drilling on the EWA concession as it further assesses the results of the recent drilling and also awaits interpretation of the results from a well that is currently being drilled from the adjoining concession -- South Warda.
Sea Dragon president and chief executive officer, David Thompson, stated, "While we are disappointed by the results to date of the Dahab North well we are examining options for further development in the EWA concession." Consistent with the company's long-term intention to combine its exploration activities in the Gulf of Suez with lower-risk assets it is announcing two new projects which will provide the company with production and development opportunities that it believes have considerable upside potential.
Sea Dragon has entered into a letter of intent for an exclusive period with Dover Investments Ltd. to acquire, subject to applicable governmental approvals, the Ras El Ush concession which is situated in the Gulf of Suez, Egypt. The Ras El Ush concession is a producing concession situated offshore in the Gulf of Suez and it currently produces approximately 1,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) of production which would generate immediate cash flow to the company upon closing of the transaction. The company has been advised that there is the possibility to increase existing production through well stimulation. Additionally there are other exploration targets on the concession.
Sea Dragon has also acquired, on a private placement basis, a 15-per-cent convertible debenture in the principal amount of $300,000 maturing on Dec. 12, 2009, and convertible into two million common shares in the capital of Prevail Energy Ltd. The debenture shares represent, on a fully converted basis, approximately 5.6 per cent of the total issued and outstanding common shares of Prevail Energy as of the date hereof. Upon mutually agreeable terms the parties may elect to move forward with negotiations that could result in a merger, acquisition or other form of business combination subject to completion of satisfactory due diligence and required regulatory, governmental, and/or shareholder approvals.

Aura's Serrote at 195,611 t of 0.5% Cu, 15.61% Fe M+I
2009-02-27 04:23 EST - News Release
Mr. Patrick Downey reports
AURA MINERALS ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN SERROTE DA LAJE RESOURCE
A new resource estimate has been completed for Aura Minerals Inc.'s advanced-stage Serrote da Laje deposit at its wholly owned Arapiraca copper-gold iron-ore project in Alagoas state, Brazil. This resource estimate will also be the basis of a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) that is currently under way. This new resource estimate demonstrates continued expansion of the Serrote deposit since the last announced estimation in August, 2008, and has significantly increased the measured and indicated resource.
The attached table presents the updated resource estimate for the Serrote deposit at the same 0.2-per-cent-copper cut-off used in the August, 2008, resource estimate (see news in Stockwatch of June 23, 2008). The attached table shows the resource estimate at a 0.3-per-cent-copper copper equivalent, which includes the gold and magnetite. The equivalence formula was calculated using metal pricing of $1.70 per pound Cu, $59 per tonne Fe and $730 per ounce Au with estimated recoveries of 80 per cent Cu, 70 per cent Au and 42 per cent Fe.
EQCu equals Cu per cent plus grams per tonne Au times 0.564 plus Fe times 0.01
The recently completed drill program and surface trenching program confirmed the geological interpretation and continuity of both the north and south zones of the Serrote deposit. The deposit remains open to the east and south and follow-up drilling is planned in these areas. Furthermore, drilling is required beneath the shallow portion of the northern zone to determine whether the recent high-grade zone discovered in the centre of the deposit extends beneath the shallow northern zone. This would add significantly more higher-grade tonnage to the current resource.

The measured and indicated resources have increased by more than 50 per cent or an increase of 65,498,000 tonnes since the August, 2008, resource estimate. An additional 32,081,000 tonnes have also been added to the inferred category. Furthermore, the company has yet to include the resources from the nearby Caboclo target. To date, 51 holes have been completed in this near-surface zone and a resource calculation is currently continuing.
Preliminary economic assessment
As part of the current work on the Serrote deposit, the company has retained a group of qualified engineers to complete a PEA study. This study will review mine development options, infrastructure, site layout, metallurgy, development timelines, as well as capital and operating costs. The study will only incorporate the Serrote deposit. The results of this work are anticipated to be available in the second quarter of 2009.
The company recently completed a ground magnetic program in the vicinity of the Serrote deposit and the data were sent to Quantec Geophysics in Vancouver for 3-D interpretation purposes.
This program revealed a large target only 300 metres to the east of the current Serrote deposit. This target coincides with strong copper and nickel soil geochemistry anomalies. The company is currently mobilizing a diamond drill rig to the project to test this large target.
Patrick Downey, president and chief executive officer of Aura Minerals, stated: "The updated resource clearly demonstrates that the Serrote deposit is now a large well-defined deposit, which is in an area of excellent infrastructure and within 120 kilometres of an industrial port. Resources have been estimated based on copper only with no gold or magnetite credits. Furthermore, with the resource estimation for the Caboclo target still to be added and with the identification of a large new target within 300 metres from the Serrote deposit, we believe that this area has the potential to host a world-class copper district."
Quality-assurance and quality-control (QA/QC) procedures and methodology
The resource estimation has been prepared by Geosim Services Inc., under the direction of Ronald G. Simpson, PGeo, an independent qualified person for the purpose of National Instrument 43-101. A report under National Instrument 43-101 disclosing the updated resource for the Serrote deposit is being prepared by Geosim Services Inc. and will be filed by Aura Minerals on SEDAR within 45 days.
The mineral resource for the Serrote deposit was estimated by ordinary kriging constrained by 3-D solid models based on a 0.1-per-cent-copper-grade shell within three fault domains of the gabbro/norite complex. Block dimensions were 20 by 20 metres horizontal and 10 metres vertical. The deposit has been tested by 355 core holes and four reverse-circulation holes drilled between 1995 and December, 2008. Grade estimation was based on analyses of core samples from 265 drill holes and channel samples from six surface trenches. Cutting of high-grade assays for Cu and Fe was not implemented as statistical analysis of the constrained grade distribution showed no significant outliers or high-grade populations. A single extreme assay for Au (24 grams per tonne) located in the central fault domain was capped at 4.15 grams per tonne equivalent to the 99th percentile value of the data set.
Exploration on the Serrote deposit is being conducted under the supervision of Carlos H. Bertoni, MSc, PGeo, who is the company's qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. Mr. Bertoni has also reviewed and approved the contents of this news release as applicable.
The company's diamond-drilling program is being conducted by Geosol-Geologia e Sondagens Ltda. The core is measured, logged, photographed and then split in half using a core saw. Half the core is retained on site in a secure storage facility and the other half is processed through the on-site sample preparation facility under the supervision of SGS-Geosol Laboratorios Ltda. The entire half core is crushed and pulverized and 150-gram splits of this pulp are sent directly by SGS-Geosol to its main ISO-accredited assay laboratory in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. At this laboratory, samples are analyzed by inductively coupled plasma multielement analysis (35 elements are reported); Cu is additionally analysed by acid-digestion and atomic-absorption (AA) finish; Fe over 40 per cent is assayed by XRF (X-ray refraction); and the gold, palladium and platinum content is determined by fire assay with an AA finish. Aura Minerals sends check samples to the ALS Chemex laboratory in Brazil and systematically puts certified standard samples and blank samples in all batches of samples sent to SGS-Geosol as a means of quality control. Additionally, SGS-Geosol has its own stringent internal QA/QC protocols.
Swedish woman finds 1.13-bln-dollar windfall
Tue Feb 24, 4:18 PM
STOCKHOLM (AFP) - A Swedish woman received the shock of a lifetime when she found 1.13 billion dollars (883 million euros) more than expected in her bank account, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
Cornelia Johansson discovered the windfall on Monday, after she logged on to her Internet bank to pay some bills, regional daily Goeteborgs-Posten said in its online edition.
"The balance was more than 10 billion kronor. It said the amount had been deposited as a correction for a credit card purchase," Johansson's boyfriend Daniel Hoeglund told the daily.
On Tuesday morning, the money was still credited to her account, but a few hours later it was gone, as mysteriously as it had arrived.
A press spokeswoman for Nordea bank, the largest bank in the Nordic region, later explained the mystery as "a technical mistake made by a company."

Police make Parliament Hill arrest before Obama arrival
Thu Feb 19, 11:02 AM
By The Canadian Press
OTTAWA - RCMP made an arrest on Parliament Hill shortly before the arrival of U.S. President Barack Obama for a six-hour visit.
Few details were immediately available, but a police spokesman said the arrest was made after a young man jumped a barrier. A group of burly RCMP officers wrestled the man to the ground at Wellington Street, just in front of the Parliament Hill lawn, and led him away for questioning.
Crowds were relatively sparse on the front lawn of Parliament Hill as Air Force One touched down at the airport, about 20 minutes' drive away.
The city was crawling with police and other security personnel.
The Parliament buildings were surrounded by fencing and crowds were being kept in check by double steel barriers.

Police in Conn. shoot chimp after it attacks woman
Mon Feb 16, 9:04 PM
By Stephanie Reitz, The Associated Press
HARTFORD, Conn. - A 200-pound chimpanzee kept as a pet and once used in commercials was shot and killed by police Monday after it mauled a woman visiting its owner and later cornered an officer in his cruiser, authorities said.
Stamford police Lt. Richard Conklin said the injured woman was hospitalized late Monday in "very serious" condition at Stamford Hospital; her identity was not immediately released. Conklin said she suffered "a tremendous loss of blood" from serious facial injuries.
The 15-year-old chimpanzee's owner and two officers also were hurt, though police said the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Police said they had no idea why the chimpanzee, named Travis, attacked the woman as she got out of her car to visit the animal's owner, Sandra Herold. Conklin said Herold wrestled with the animal, then ran inside to call 911.
"She retrieved a large butcher knife and stabbed her longtime pet numerous times in an effort to save her friend, who was really being brutally attacked," Conklin said.
Travis ran away and started roaming on Herold's property as police arrived. Officers set up security so medics could reach the critically injured woman lying on the ground, Conklin said.
As the woman was treated, the chimpanzee went after several of the officers, who retreated into their cars, Conklin said. Travis opened the door to one cruiser and started to get in, trapping an officer who then shot the chimpanzee several times, Conklin said.
The wounded chimpanzee fled. Conklin said police followed the trail of his blood down the driveway, into the open door of the home, through the house and to his living quarters, where he had retreated and died of his wounds.
Well-known around Stamford because he rode around in trucks belonging to his owners' towing company, Travis appeared on TV commercials for Old Navy and Coca-Cola when he was younger, made an appearance on the "Maury Povich Show" and took part in a television pilot, according to a 2003 story in The Advocate newspaper of Stamford.
"He's been raised almost like a child by this family," Conklin said Monday. "He rides in a car every day, he opens doors, he's a very unique animal in that aspect. We have no indication of what provoked this behaviour at all."
A message seeking comment was left Monday night at Herold's home.
Conklin said the chimp has been ill from Lyme disease, "so maybe from the medications he was out of sorts. We really don't know."
Police have dealt with the animal in the past, including an incident in 2003 when he escaped from his owners' vehicle in downtown Stamford for two hours. Officers used cookies, macadamia treats and ice cream in an attempt to lure him, but subdued him only after he became too tired to resist.
At the time of the 2003 incident, police said the Herolds told them the chimpanzee was toilet trained, dressed himself, took his own bath, ate at the table and drank wine from a stemmed glass. He also brushed his teeth using a Water Pik, logged onto the computer to look at pictures, and watched television using the remote control, police said.

Global Hunter's widely spaced drill program is designed to test the lateral and vertical limits, particularly in the northern portion, of the mineralized porphyry, where previous drilling never fully tested the vertical extent of the mineralization. Once these limits are defined, the company plans to conduct infill grid drilling to provide sufficient data to allow for a resource estimate.
The Rabbit South property is centrally located between two well-known producers, 25 kilometres from Highland Valley and 12 kilometres from Afton. Rabbit South has excellent infrastructure including:
All-season access roads;
Proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway;
A major hydro power transmission line and transformer substation located less than 10 kilometres away from the property.
All assays were analyzed by EcoTech Laboratory Ltd. in Kamloops, B.C. The laboratory is ISO-9001-2000-certified and is a division of the Alex Stewart Group. For complete details on the assay procedures, please refer to the company's news release dated Sept. 17, 2008, on its website. The remaining results are currently being reviewed and undergoing quality assurance/quality control analysis, and will be released once this process is complete.

Islamic TV founder charged with beheading wife: reports
52 minutes ago
NEW YORK (AFP) - The founder of a US television station aimed at countering stereotypes of Muslims has been arrested and charged with beheading his wife, local media reported.
Muzzammil Hassan was charged with second-degree murder of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, whose decapitated body was found Thursday by police at the Bridges TV station in a Buffalo suburb in New York state, The Buffalo News reported Monday.
"He came to the police station at 6:20 pm (Thursday) and told us that she was dead," Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz told the newspaper.
Police reportedly went to Bridges TV, which Hassan founded in 2004, and discovered her body.
Orchard Park police told AFP there was a statement about the murder and arrest but would not release it or confirm any details pending contact with the police chief, who was unavailable.
Bridges TV said in a statement it was "deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Aasiya (Zubair) Hassan and subsequent arrest of Muzzammil Hassan."
CNN reported on its website that Benz said Hassan, 44, confessed to beheading his wife.
Benz said Hassan's wife, 37, had filed for divorce January 6, and that police had responded to numerous domestic violence calls at the couple's home, according to CNN.
He reportedly had two children, age four and six, with his wife, and two other children, age 17 and 18, from a previous marriage.

Salma Hayek marries French magnate Francois-Henri Pinault in Paris
6 minutes ago
By The Associated Press
PARIS - Salma Hayek picked a romance-lover's ideal time and place for her wedding: Valentine's Day in Paris.
The Mexican-born actress wed French magnate Francois-Henri Pinault in a civil ceremony Saturday at the City Hall in Paris' chic 6th arrondissement, according to an official there.
The wedding was a small affair, said the official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, in accordance with policy.
The nuptials followed a rocky romance. The two met in Italy in 2006, announced their engagement and had a baby, Valentina Paloma, in September 2007. Last year they broke off their engagement but made up a few months later.
Hayek, 42, was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for the film "Frida," the biography of the painter Frida Kahlo, which she produced and starred in. She is one of the executive producers of the hit series "Ugly Betty" and is also the chief executive of Ventanazul, a production company she formed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
Pinault, 46, is chief executive of the French luxury and retail group PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.
