Bootz, I have to strongly agree with you.
Jobs is missing out on a small window of opportunity to gain share in the PC market. A good percentage of current Windows users would like to switch to OS X if Apple offered an affordable headless G5 system. If iPod revenue stalls and PC prices go lower - Apple could end up with an even smaller PC market share and a decline in revenue as well. I'm seriously considering changing my investment strategy on AAPL from long to short term.
Altaire4 .. Wake Up AAPL ... You cannot afford another missed opportunity.

APPLE Taking the Gloves of at WWDC
WWDC: Apple blasts Microsoft's Longhorn
June 27, 2004 - 21:47 EDT At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple has taken a rather large shot at Microsoft's Longhorn, the next major release of Windows. In its boldest move to date, Apple is displaying several banners for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" at the Moscone Center in San Francisco that make it quite clear the company's feelings toward Microsoft and the software giant's upcoming operating system. The banners, which are the first known items that show the new Tiger graphics, read: "Introducing Longhorn." "Redmond, start your photocopiers." "This should keep Redmond busy." and "Redmond, we have a problem."

OT: Exposing Corruption
The new info presented in F-9/11 confirmed my worst fears. That wholesale corruption at the highest levels of our government seems to be business as usual.
All the info that painted a picture of corruption was new to me.
On a positive note we as Citizens can make a difference in the up and coming elections. Provided of course that our votes get counted !!!
Maybe now you can understand the message that Howard Dean was trying to deliver to the American people.
Dear Fi and Blue,
How anybody can justify making Billion's of dollars from this kind of human suffering still befuddles me.
Best Regards, Altaire4 ;-(
Spastic, I haven't seen Bowling For Columbine so I cannot comment on it.
The fact checking on F-9/11 has been very thorough. Their isn't much in the film that I wasn't aware of. But One clever cinematic technique that works best in this film is the absence of Sept 11 footage we have seen ad-infintum ... just the use of sound.
I urge you to see this film and make up your own mind. There aren't many films of substance out there .... I'm not a Michael Moore fan ... but he hit a grand slam with this one.

2B Thats a very interesting Spam Solution .... Thanks !!!
Annie he looks like a John.
Don't feed him ..... he may never leave !!!
If he starts spinning something about Eagles flying, call an exterminator !!!
And now for something completely different. There's a spider in my cube. He's between the case and the puter housing. This puppy is about an 1 1/4" long. Not exactly small. Taking suggestions for names.

Hi Cotton
I'm still running a 400 mhz G4 Ti Powerbook with Jaguar and it still does everything I need it to do.
With a new Mac OS over One Hundred dollars a pop a year I don't blame you for hanging back. Early adopters of Panther where treated to a nasty firewire bug so now that the kinks are pretty much ironed out moving to Panther is a good move. Your dead on about Merrill they have very little credibility with me. If the hype does drive the price further I'll take a small profit. I do believe that a new Mac is in the pipeline but what it will be and when is anybody's guess. In the meantime, the iPod and iTune's music stuff and the recent G5 XServe raids should drive this stock up a little further.
Glad to see you posting on the iHub board again.

WWDC: New Displays? Yes; New iMacs? No
June 24, 2004 - The hype is incredible. The speculation is even more ridiculous. Yes, it's the time of year to play the Mac community's favorite past time: "Let's guess what's coming at the Worldwide Developers Conference when we have no facts to back up our claims!" This time around, some of the rumors are so loony that they aren't even worth repeating.

Fi, In an odd way the shortages are helping to fuel the mini iPod demand
- its somewhat similar to the collectibles market. If everyone had one the demand wouldn't be as strong and it would not be considered a prized possession. How else does APPLE get away with charging a premium price for many of its products.
This can backfire sometime ... but I dare you to ask any of your customers if they would like to be removed from a waiting list to get one. People who want a Mini iPod are people into what I call the COOL factor. Is it a Fad ? Like Bell Bottoms and Tie Die Tee shirts .... Sort of.
Do you remember what it was like when you where the first one to get a new gadget or a music album that everyone seemed to want. Every once in awhile APPLE creates a must have product because it Taps into a psychological mystique ... that you need this product to be hip, contemporary or down right fashionable. Music helps you feel a whole host of emotions so people place a great amount of value in having their music at their fingertips. The iPod, iTunes thang taps into almost an emotional need not unlike the fashion and cosmetics industries which attempts to tap into ones conceived self-image offering us temporary cures for our perceived physical flaws.
Apple's marketing by the way has been dead on ....effective.
Go AAPL !!!
AAPL Growth Prospects
Looks like Apple is raking in some sizeable pocket change from music. Hpod is going to be icing on the cake.
What will AAPL do next ?
Barring irrational exuberance I think Merrill 's AAPL estimate of $39.00 is way to bullish but $36.00 - $37.00 maybe feasible if the FED don't drown speculative growth with higher interest rates.
Altaire4 .... Go AAPL !!!!
Lets hope the new iMac G5 is both practical and affordable.
What I would like to see is an inexpensive headless iMac starting at say $599.00 -1.6 Ghz, $799.00 -1.8 Ghz, $999.00 - 2.0 ghz which could support Apple's new LCD monitors or a cheap CRT. This would help to drive-up some market share.
Oh, well, that was interesting dream.
I personally believe that a G5 iMac revision is on the way .... maybe as soon as WWDC to fill in the lower mhz G5 Gap. The new dual 64 bit Powermac line-up is clearly for Pro users. A new form factor G5 iMac could fill in the Pro-Sumer market. What will Jobs present at WWDC other than TIGER ?

Next AAPL stop $32.00 ?
Speaking of G5 Dual 1.8 GHZ. I just setup one yesterday it runs fabulous.
However, it was a replacement for a G5 Single 1.6 GHZ system that shipped in with problems.
Bad CD and Bad Ethernet port .. what was suspicious was the inner packaing seal had been broken.
Apple made good on the hardware and promptly shipped in a new Dual 1.8 GHZ ..... now thats what I call a replacement.
Go AAPL !!!! 31.75 a share .... Sweeet !!!

PC World names Mac OS X 'Best Operating System of 2004,
' Apple iTunes 'Software Newcomer of the Year'
Monday, June 14, 2004 - 09:21 AM EDT
PC World writes of Apple Mac OS X operating system, "Panther's sleek interface and reliable performance are impressive. Although we aren't suggesting that you ditch your hardware and buy a Mac, Apple deserves credit for raising the bar for OSs. And we hope Microsoft is paying attention as it works on the next Windows."
"Apple makes Windows apps about as often as Microsoft ships bug-free products, and if iTunes for Windows (free) is any indication, that's a crying shame. The iTunes media player works on PCs the same way it does on Macs, right down to the handy feature that lets you share your music library with other PC or Mac iTunes users on your network. It looks great, it's easy to use, and it has a surprising number of useful features, like the abilities to generate rules-based Smart Playlists and to trim individual tracks," PC World reports.
"Meanwhile, Apple's complementary iTunes Music Store (99 cents per track, album prices vary) started the party last year on subscription-free digital tunes, pioneering the 99-cents-per-track model that most online music stores now use. With easy navigation, an impressive exclusive track selection, and such innovative offerings as audiobooks and radio show archives, iTunes Music Store is going strong," PC World writes. "Competitors like RealPlayer Music Store made this a tough choice, but it's hard to beat a store that's built into the best media player software around. We do have one major complaint: iTunes tracks are incompatible with digital audio players other than Apple's own iPod. How selfish!"

Lang stop being an *ss
Sometimes less is more. Sometimes credibility and honesty in a less-than-perfect product sells better than exaggeration to a "perfect" product. Maybe you'll get that. Maybe you won't.
Interesting theory - how do you explain the success of Microsoft Windows and the intel x86 platform then ? Do you believe everything you hear from MSFT, INTEL or AMD.
Blue's shoot-outs have been invaluable and lang you could have stated your criticism in a more civil way.
Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!!
Lang, I work on all kinds of Mac and PC hardware and software.
The latest Dell systems are easier to work on but Blue is right Apple systems are still much easier to maintain and upgrade.
Blue's site is an excellent resource to compare Mac's and PC'S.
Apple is not in the business to compete with DELL nor should they be look at Dell's other competitors .... their all losing money !!!
What all MAC users want are reliable systems and in most cases this has been true.
The amount of downtime due to hardware issues with Dell systems at the company I work at has been significant. The barrage of Windows Malware and viruses has become a big IT headache and both of these things have impacted worker productivity. Those workers who run APPLE systems have little to no downtime, now that is worth the small premium, if any you, might pay for an APPLE system.

We all know about the iTunes Store for Europe. It's going to be another interesting year for APPLE !!
Now that the economy is showing signs of recovery that APPLE could see significant growth in the coming years. I'm staying long on APPLE and will add to my position if the market corrects. I'm still stunned by the $30.00 a share stock price though.

OT: PearPC 0.01 PPC Mac OS X Emulator
If their is any evidence that interest in MAC OS X for x86 is high it has to be the Open Source PearPC project. It is true that this emulator runs painfully slow and next to useless at this time but this indicates that an APPLE x86 version of OS X could bring APPLE back into the mainstream PC market. With Intel now focusing on dual core CPU's a native x86 OS X port would be an excellent road map to a larger share of the computing market.

A Public Message to APPLE and Steve Jobs :
The Window (No Pun intended)of Opportunity to challenge Microsoft for the OS market is running out. XP sp2 and Longhorn could solidfy Microsoft's grip on the OS market. OS X like iTunes for x86 could turn that all around.
Wake-up APPLE !!! Your missing out on a much larger x86 market.

AAPL's True Market Share
Numbers don't tell Mac's story
March 31, 2004, The-Post Standard
Apple's global share in the market for new computers hit a low of 1.7 percent in 2003. The 2004 numbers are likely to be a little better, but not much.
Yet my own rough calculations indicate that 8 percent of the personal computers used today in homes - leaving out all the computers used in offices and businesses - are Apple Macintoshes. Others have said my number is conservative; I've seen the total for Macs in home use as high as 12 percent.
How can we have 1.7 percent in one case and 8 percent to 12 percent in another? It's simple: People who represent the Windows side of the computer industry look out one door and Mac fans look out another.
For example, the 2003 figure of 1.7 percent counts only the number of new computers sold month by month. It does not count the number of computers that are in use. You don't have to be a genius to realize the fallacy of this sort of statistic. Macs last longer than Windows PCs and don't need replacing as often. So Mac users aren't ever going to buy new computers at the same rate as Windows users.

Better Safe than Sorry !!!
Dill, If you use your system for Internet shopping with a credit card at the very least you should have a firewall. With IRC chat programs and Web vulnerabilities out their its better to be safe than sorry.
Unlike, Mac OS 9, OS X has terminal services that can be probed for vulnerabilities.
If your using your system as a server you should use a monitoring program like MacAnalysis:
http://www.macanalysis.com/about.php3
As OS X continues grows in popularity it will only be a matter of time before some bright hacker will figure out a way in.
