PEACEB2U-- OT~~ 1 gen for the 28 and the other did the white flag for the 51st div,,
Ah yes! eom
Agree-- emma 1st, then Martha. There are others up there but those 2 are special,,LOL<
Maine-- did you ever think they died so you can whine here w/o repercussion? Do you think Saddam would permit you to do that? I spent 2 years in SEA. No one hates war & death more than me. Few have seen as much. Seeing 1st hand the death and suffering of those sacrificing so some at home still have the right to whine in the safety they provide gives a strong feeling on the whiners. My offer of a 1 way ticket to Iraq goes to you also.
LOL! A lot that want people like Saddam to rule should go live under him. I'll buy your 1 way ticket!
Wrong-- you attacked EVERYONE here & in the US,, + those fighting to keep your butt safe here by getting the job done over there!
Maybe I sold too soon? Still a nice 2+ bucker is nice on a day like today,,
Joe-- ya gotta love his honesty,, besides-- I agree with him,,LOL
Out MMM $2+ out PEP $1. God bless those in harms way!
Maine-- turn off your TV. Some people cannot take it,, but GW is the best thing to happen to the US at this time. This type of war causes few US casualties & limits civie casualties on the enemy. If you wish to call a Bastard why not saddam! Your disgust is wrongly directed. Maybe you would rather be trading & raising a family in Pakistan?
Doubtful it is 'over' but will be taking some profits. All the tripA is OK but there is nothing as beautiful as a firefight at night,,
Hey maine-- I'm only up 1.70 on MMM, go easy will ya,,LOL
There has always been a good mkt for a well trained merc eom.
Bear-- I agree & think of all the bux to remain in the US coffers if they are shown how much the need us! Same with France.. Talk about debt reduction just not giving the pansies any more $$ and a little trade irregularities and they can go bk in a hurry. Damn-- I really feel bad about the ricin found in rance,, may have a few there thinking of buying white flags and wondering who they are to surrender to,,
delete-- eom
<ELECTED TO APPLE COMPUTER BOARD OF
DIRECTORS"> Even that election would need fixed for him to WIN. Why not say 'appointed'?
Hey-- be nice to KO-- the brkb traders are up nearly 10% & more is desired! ,,;-]
Sorry to hear that & hope you change your mind. OK-- so a run missed,, most everyone missed it simply because there is no reason for it. NADA, not TA, not FA,, anyone that called it only made a lucky guess!
Larry, the pullback must come in the near future. Anxiously awaiting to go long again. Sold most long positions a session or 2 early this time. If the thread was here last week would those still be held?? Probably will next time!
limtex-- I hope you are correct. It would be a nice assist to the US & UK economies if they stopped aid to France, Germany, Turkey, & etc. France & Germany are on the brink of a fall & Turkey is near collapse. Why should we now care if the Turkish Kurds wish to become independent? The 56000 US servicemen buried in France may rest easier knowing there is no longer any support for those that required liberation by the US TWICE! Those bux could go into the economy here or be used to reduce the deficit later.
No-- not "bull horns",, not having balls the size of a bull to short either. Holding some old longs and M-funds mostly forgotten,, but interest lies in playing the trend only. The ST trend.
God be with our military personnel...
bale-- GTW should have divvied the cash to SHs long ago, shut out the light & closed the door. Why they are still fighting can only be related to execs holding onto the big salary as long as possible.
Thanks Larry, Good idea & I'll be watching..
Yep George, They cannot figure the junk out. Still, I'll keep hyf as the SP means little as long as the rate is a bit better than corps,, now those I have been selling. HYF is paying about 12 1/4% now. As the price fell & the div went much over 16% the SP dropped,,,,,,,, now will the opposite be true as the SP begins to rise & nav too? We can hope.. but hyf can pay the living expenses at the main house ea month. The monthy payout has been nice to me as the divs purchase additional shares ea month.
limtex-- I'm a REALIST, BUT LEAN BULLISH-- HOWEVER looking for a 2K NAS is dreaming. There will be no pedal to the metal and we will be lucky if Joe & Jane SixPack put much into equities for a very long time. They may dabble in a M-fund or something they know like GE/WMT,, but to think they will run back is only wishful thinking. They have been bit hard for a long time. All their bux are going into the mattress. Memory is cloudy but it seems it was read that cash & equivs was now over 60% the value of equities... very little of those bit hard for a long time are coming back soon, if ever on many.
Doubt it maine,, looks broadbased to me. Could many shorts be finding a pucker in their shorts? Would like to believe it is due to good news on Saddam but did not believe there are that many actually believe or trust Iraq.
maine-- currently 19 of my chosen 20 are green today. Only F is down a penny from yesterdays close but up from my entry. Very unlikely my chosen 20 are THE few-- actually a couple riets & a junk bond fund do not even fit i 'chosen' anything,,
MONGO-- Saddam probably had them buried by now! eom
One of my employees told me the # was 4.80% today-- w zero fees.
gottfried-- >he talks to his dog< doesn't everyone? It's normal behavior. :) Yes, it must be. The only time Buster has a negative influence on my trading is when his NEEDS require him to go outside,, during that few moments away from the office my trades can go to hell. Still, his calm attitude prevents so emothional trading on my part. ;-}
cash2go-- thought you may be interested in this on brk;
OMAHA, Neb., Mar 08, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Berkshire
Hathaway Inc. reported its highest ever annual profit on Saturday, citing
increased profits from higher insurance and reinsurance rates charged by company
units, partly as a reaction to the destruction of the World Trade Center on
Sept. 11, 2001.
The Omaha, Neb., -based company run by billionaire investor Warren Buffet
reported a profit of $4.2 billion, or $2,795 a share, for 2002, compared with
$795 million, or $521 a share, for 2001.
Revenue rose 10 percent to a record $42.3 billion.
"In all respects, 2002 was a banner year," Buffet said in his annual report to
shareholders.
Berkshire's profit from insurance was higher than it might have been in a
"normal" year, Buffet said. The company also saw better returns from its
old-economy operations, which range from See's Candies to Helzberg Diamond Shops
and Ben Bridge Jeweler.
Berkshire's stock gained $1,210, or 1.90 percent, to close Friday at $64,800 a
share on the New York Stock Exchange.
In his annual letter to shareholder released Saturday on Berkshire's Web site,
Buffet touted his insurance and investment company's performance. "The
confluence of these favorable factors in 2002 caused our book-value gain to
outstrip the performance of the S&P 500 by 32.1 percentage points," he wrote.
The company made very few changes to its reported equity portfolio in 2002.
Berkshire added 6.7 million shares of M&T Bank, valued at $532 million to its
disclosure.
Berkshire's largest equity position remains 200 million shares of Coca-Cola Co.
worth nearly $8.8 billion as of Dec. 31, 2002, down from $9.4 billion at the end
of 2001.
cash2go-- as for Buffet,, I have A shares for keepers and keep some but trade the B shares. The past weeks have seen as volatility in Berkshire since 9-11 when there was the ability to pick up shares (B) around $2000 and sell between $2500 & $2600. Last wewek may have been another buying OP. BRK is not as diversified as I would like but there is more than insur which helps somewhat. As for the financials,, after 9-11 BRK had liabilities in the billions and Warren stated it was not a big deal to pay. Since then most rates have been favorably adjusted. Since 1965 BRK has never had a yoy loss in SP. Not many can say that-- I still like the history and financials.
Het maine,, I hope he was not talking about BRK-- I hold way too much of that to be overvalued..LOL!
jd-- I doubt any state has a rosey out look at this time. They all committed $$ they no longer have arriving in the state coffers. None want to lay anyone off either. I'll be taking an early retirement this summer and will be able to live wherever. All I'm certain of is OH or PA is preferred but if any little thing agitates,, the cost of living in Mexico is low and preferrable to the hot as hell areas of southern US. All the mfg jobs and many tech jobs have left the US for less expensive areas-- why not retirees? It seems logical one could live very well there on $50K or so a year. HHMMmmm-- I know I'll visit Mexico next fall/winter! As long as there is a phone line & ISP one should be able to make more than it costs to live with little effort... maybe even play their mkt too.
jd-- glad to hear your auto insur went down. For years NJ has been known to pay very high rates-- not far behind Mass. The other thing NJ is known for is rediculous property taxes. Unlikely that will change. Nearly everything in OH has gone up with no end in sight. The only thing I see going down is wages as mfg jobs are replaced by those at McDonalds and truck stops. It is unlikely interst rates will move which will not help the retired that count on that for living expenses or those hoping for a retirement-- oh, yeah,, looks like the mkts will continue going down as there is no reason for the trend to change. I think we should be concerned for the financial future of our children & grandchildren unless we are going to be able to see they inherit enough.
Joe-- IMO the last thing people will give up is the home the people you describe waited so long to aquire. Even without meeting the 20% down they have a good portion of their savings, blood, & sweat in-- they most likely will add tears to keep it. I certainly side with Zeev on this one.
Sounds interesting Larry, bookmarked!~
And 9 may be a stretch.eom
Turks thinking of their mkts-- better be thinking of much more.....
"Thank God it's the weekend and the markets are closed," said Mehmet Agar, the
leader of the opposition True Path Party."
"But Saturday's rejection of the agreement could have a devastating impact on
Turkey if a new vote is not taken.
Turkey depended on Washington's support to help secure billions in loans that
rescued the country during an economic crisis in 2001.
The United States has also pushed Turkey's candidacy in the European Union.
If Turkey does not approve the basing agreement, Turkey will also lose a say in
the future of neighboring Iraq if there is a war.
That is a critical issue in Turkey, which fears that a war could lead Kurds in
northern Iraq to declare an independent state, a move that could inspire
Turkey's own Kurdish minority."
