If I shut down SC and restart I can sometimes annotate...maybe some of their servers are working.
Must have forgotten about us Canucks...thanksgiving down there in the Bush.
I am also having annotation problems. So I guess we have problems. My Java is working fine on other systems.
You are incorrect donnab.
When I reported the intraday scans were not working, they were not working. It lasted a couple of hours. You responded to this over 1 1/2 days after it occurred!! What is your motive for for continuing to protect Stockcharts?
As far as reporting these events to Stockcharts it is a waste of my time. I simply like to reciprocate to those who also report problems on this forum.
I suggest you put me on ignore if my posts are troubling you.
Something is up again at SC. There are no intra-day scan updates.
Thanks for your reply.
I will not apologise for the "95% chance it is SC's fault" statement. During that period they were in fact having problems and when I post messages regarding SC's downtime I am usually correct. As soon as there is a problem on SC I will continue to post...so put me on ignore if you wish.
My concern again is the complacency of people like you who simply put up with the customer service issues SC has. If you are trading weekly/monthy timeframes needless to say you would not have issues with them. I trade all timesframes and I am particularly annoyed because I gave up Alphatrade as my back up and short term service because I thought SC had improved. I sure got that wrong.
On Sunday and Monday for example, SC's scanning tool was horribly slow and in fact would not return results on complex scans. If you think that is also acceptable then I can say no more.
Peace
Thanks kindly for your response to my Stockcharts issues. I'm not a paid InvestorHub member so I can't respond privately...which I would very much like to do. I am a full time trader and if you care to mailbox your email address I would very much like to discuss a couple of points with someone of your experience.
95% chance that it is Stockcharts problem. Looks like we have a few issues today too.
It is an excellent scan but... when backtesting it did not filter out any significant number of candidates compared to a basic mac or sto scan.
I am gradually dropping scanning as a method of finding trading candidates. Having experimented to almost a level of exhaustion, my preference is now to maintain a "hot" list of pre-selected stocks and monitor them frequently for optimum TA signals. My objective is:
1) become less reliant on Stockcharts features in preparation to go to an alternative Charting Service with better reliability and customer service.
2) attempt to emulate some of the pro TA traders who appear to also downplay scanning.
SmallCap centre has an excellent free scanning tool if anyone is interested.
Cheers
Blaming StockCharts problems on Thomson Financial for being down for 2 days is a highly unlikely situation. Thompson could not afford to have data feed systems down for such an incredibly long period in this day an age.
Like a number of posters on this forum, I don't understand your need to protect SC unless of course you are an employee. If you take such a nonchalant attitude towards a company you are paying to provide a defective service, then why don't you save your money and go to BC Charts...they are free.
As far as compensating us...what a joke!!!
Get realistic...please.
SC/Rachel-stop this intermittent service. Turn your da..m system off until it is fixed. It is utterly unprofessional and insulting to use your paying customers as testers. I apologize for the complement in a previous message…it will not happen again.
BC charts, Reuters, AlphaTrade are working fine...you are developing seriuos reliability problems IMO. Maybe it is time for me to get out of SC. Your mistakes are starting to cost me far too much in lost opportunities.
C'mon get your act together SC!! Nothing is working...this is 2 days now.
Hourly charts not working
Actually I'm a full blown subscriber. Until competition threatens their dominance and they start to lose their subscribers, we are stuck with the reliability issue. They are the typical slow Canadian 'legacy' type company and will not react to their customers needs until they are forced to. Other examples of these companies are: Air Canada, Stelco, Molson, Eatons etc.
When they do respond to our needs...it is only fair to complement them.
Nice touch StockCharts re: message on website. Excellent.
Helps lower the blood pressure for us lowly retail traders.

We are now up and down
We are down.
Hi Cush:
I take exception to your 'put down' on eliteG's post.
I have had their system for years so I am pretty confident that when something is wrong with StockCharts system ...there is something wrong. I usually post here as soon as I see a problem to a) hope it will be monitored by the people at SC b) let others know.
My beef with SC is that they will not acknowledge that there is a problem. A simple note on their website is all that is required. I have given up trying to communicate with them.
This type of arrogance will affect their customer loyalty over time.
I would encourage everybody to voice their concerns about the customer service level at SC without having to write a technical paper on it.
Scan is not working again
Yes we were down again. Happening too often IMO. Another failure just before closing. We'll never hear about from Stockcharts of course. A capacity problem with their system?
Rachel...could we get an explanation on why the problems today? When the market closed we were up and running again.
Thank you.
Stockcharts have been on/off all day and as usual no mention of their problems. Reuters and Big Charts are fully operational. It does seem to me that when there is an extreme amount of market activity I get the the impression they cannot handle the load.
Update: I have found that a weekly histogram can be run not using the advanced menu. I don't know why the advanced menu does not work but anyway I have solved my own problem.
I have been trying to write a scan to capture the first weekly histogram uptic. I have no trouble doing this in the daily timeframe but keep getting booted in weekly. Here is the histogram clause I put into my daily scan...can anybody help me produce the equivelent in weekly?
[daily macd hist(12,26,9) > yesterday's daily macd hist(12,26,9)]and [daily macd hist(12,26,9) < 0]and [yesterday's macd hist(12,26,9) < 2 days ago daily macd hist(12,26,9)]and [2 days ago daily macd hist(12,26,9) < 3 days ago daily macd hist(12,26,9)]
Considering a trade when the weekly histogram is entering the first or second uptic from a cleary "oversold" condition can lead to some good trades using the appropriate daily indicators and patterns.
Thanks

Incredibly slow scanning today what's up?
We are up again
We are down...no charts
My charts are not working again
Hi Cush:
Are there any serious problems at StockCharts that should be shared with members of this forum? I thought I was the only nutcake complaining...but we have a real negative sentiment here this time around. Unless I see tangible evidence that SC management are making an effort to improve their customer service over the next 3 months I will not renew my subscription.
This is the first time I have ever seen a message to explain the current problems. It is 3 hours late but it is an improvement over nothing.
My sense is they don't give a damn about retail subscribers. For the cost of this service we deserve better customer service.
Thanks Rumbaba. I will review Prophet at SC renewal also. I am actually very satisfied with AlphaTrade...they have improved tremendously, basic $17.00/month and a vastly superior tool for intraday trading than SC. Customer service is superior too...you can call and get instant service and help.
Site is not working again. Thank heavens I have AlphTrade as an alternative whose reliability now exceeds StockCharts. They do not have the comment feature. I am seriuosly thinking of using a manual system or maybe Outlook tasks for notes.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks.
Real Time is not still working. (eg XGD.TO) Why can't StockCharts show some courtesy in posting problems as soon as they are identified? Telling us a day after the fact that Real time is fixed is very dismal customer service indeed.
I am switching to AlphaTrade until they fix the problem.

Hi Cush.
I'm an extra with realtime subscriber. I also subscribe to a service where I can monitor 16 streaming stocks in realtime on 2 17" screens. It is half the cost of SC but has no scans and has fewer indicators. I appreciate your many years of experience and my question is how is it possible to trade on intraday timeframes (i.e. 5, 15 and 60 min charts) with Stockcharts realtime? It is not very effective to keep hitting the refresh button if you have 5 to 10 trades on the go.
I would appreciate your insight.
Thanks
Tdium
I have noticed that most charting services have 7 period hourly charts. I am a premium subscriber to StockCharts and Alpha trade...both have 7 period hourlies.
I find it interesting that there are 26 periods to a day on their quarter hour charts which equates to the correct 6 1/2 hour day.
A bit scary when I have been using hourly charts to identify short term buys. My IQ is not high enough to figure out the impact but crudely 7 period hourly charts increases the error by about 8%.
I support your effort to correct this.

Is there are chart for the Canadian interest rate on StockCharts?
Thanks
ZL looks like a perfect descending triangle to me on 3 month days. Weekly is fading. I would want to see a nip on weekly first B4 buying. I've been shot in the foot many times on similar set ups. (eg ie)
Great board
Not Acceptable. It has taken over 12 hours to fix this problem so far. I notice Stockcharts virtually hide their announcement that there is a problem...tucked away in their feedback screen.
What a mess!!
I caught on this one around the 9th Dec trying to ride a rebound and I forgot to check the weekly. The 5,34,5 macd is clearly very bearish.
Price appears to be heading down to the 200ema (daily). I'll watch for a clear 5,34,5 macd up 'nip'on daily , with support from the hourly chart as a buy signal. Could be a nice ride up.
20 day hourly has many negative divergences. I also use 15,102,15 macd to emulate the daily...removes a lot of noise...also bearish.
I would not be holding IE at this time.
Good luck
.
