wamu is dead. we are wmih.
I'm thinking that this horrible weather will be a long-term trend for us. Someone needs to contact the Canadians to find out how to cope with this weather. Then they need to write it down so we can plan for the future. Right now, we're just spinning our snow blowers and not getting anywhere.
I'm not joking about finding out from our northern cousins how to cope as a nation. I'm happily in Western Washington near the coast so this isn't really bothering me personally though I feel for all of those affected.
Everyone? LOL

Across the street neighbors.
I've noticed that the rate of trades and volume have increased since the WMIH news at 1:22 pm today.

Still no trades on LHHMQ after 3 hours. Usually there are trades by this time. I hope this means something.
No trades today? Seems unusual. There are ALWAYS trades on LHHMQ.
I believe he said after the close of the market today. I countered with after the close of the market yesterday.
Who cares? The deal is done and we're on our way. It's been a long time since 2008.
Call them and ask.
I got two 5,000 share blocks yesterday within 20 minutes of putting in the orders. This is a penny stock...why should I fret over a penny or two when we'll be paid multi-dollars?
Don't forget the new Net Investment Tax effective 2013 plus. The rate is 3.8%.

As long as we are "wild guessing", I'm guessing the WMIH announcement regarding KKR will be BEFORE 1/31/14, after hours.
E-Trade glitch: try googling ETrade glitch and see that they have a history (over recent years) of what seems to be the exact glitch that happened to day. They called it a "bug".

current rate = table 3 = 3.82%
"for May 2009, the federal long-term tax-exempt rate is 4.61%) of the fair market value of the corporation at the time of the ownership change (the “Section 382 Limitation "
So it looks like it is dependent on the value of the company as the higher the fair market value the higher the amount of NOLS that can be utilized.
As this article is over four years old,has the law changed in the interim?
ARE YOU KIDDING? A few cents down on low volume is NOT a stock that is dropping!!!

Sorry, what is the purpose of the hearing?
Where does CORSQ stand as far as hope for shareholders? I still have shares in CORSQ but I haven't been following the board for a while. Any thoughts?
In this instance, probably "one big share".
Friedl, your English is much better than most here. Welcome!
Don't take me literally in that example. This was a training exercise LOL. Should I have referred to a 10% per year ROI instead? It's still opportunity cost. 10% per year for 3 years is 30%. How about that instead of triple? 30% over 3 years is much better than zip.
I'm a WMI/LTI believer and my OC analysis tells me to stay invested as I have since 2008 in this stock (and it's successors).
PS, I started this OC thread just to stir the pot around here. Thanks to all for participating.
Now I'm not saying one should ACTUALLY sell the non-performing stock and buy it back every day. I'm saying that for every day we keep a stock, it's as if we're selling it and buying it back the same day. There is opportunity cost in keeping a stock. If I own ABC stock, and it looks like it's going no where, why shouldn't I sell it and buy a stock that has better prospects?
If I paid $10,000 for ABC and now it's worth $4,000, shouldn't I sell it and buy XYZ stock that looks like it could triple in a few years? So my $4,000 has the potential to grow to $12,000 (or more). The lost potential of $8,000 is the opportunity cost of not selling the ABC stock.
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/o/opportunitycost.asp
Definition of 'Opportunity Cost'
1. The cost of an alternative that must be forgone in order to pursue a certain action. Put another way, the benefits you could have received by taking an alternative action.
2. The difference in return between a chosen investment and one that is necessarily passed up. Say you invest in a stock and it returns a paltry 2% over the year. In placing your money in the stock, you gave up the opportunity of another investment - say, a risk-free government bond yielding 6%. In this situation, your opportunity costs are 4% (6% - 2%).
Investopedia explains 'Opportunity Cost'
1. The opportunity cost of going to college is the money you would have earned if you worked instead. On the one hand, you lose four years of salary while getting your degree; on the other hand, you hope to earn more during your career, thanks to your education, to offset the lost wages.
Here's another example: if a gardener decides to grow carrots, his or her opportunity cost is the alternative crop that might have been grown instead (potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins, etc.).
In both cases, a choice between two options must be made. It would be an easy decision if you knew the end outcome; however, the risk that you could achieve greater "benefits" (be they monetary or otherwise) with another option is the opportunity cost.
I'll explain it to you. When I buy an investment and it tanks temporarily, no problem. But if it tanks because of a serious problem in the company, it makes NO SENSE to hang on to it with the remote chance that it MAY go up to the price at which I purchased it just so I don't have to admit a loss. I'll sell the bad investment and buy something else that would give me a better chance of making a profit.
So, the stocks in my portfolio are stocks that I purchased for a reason. If I have a dog and hang on to it unreasonably, it's like selling it every day and buying it back. It's a conscious decision.
Likewise, when I hold on to my profitable investments, it's like selling them every day and buying them back. Also, it's a conscious decision.
Worry about that only IF it happens. Then ask again.
Too late to buy in? For those of us who have been here since 2008, we are buying in at the current price for every day we continue to own it.
If we didn't think it was worth buying, we would have sold by now.
For all, Operation of law definition:
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Operation+of+law
operation of law n. a change or transfer which occurs automatically due to existing laws and not an agreement or court order. Examples: a joint tenant obtains full title to real property when the other joint tenant dies, a spouse in a community property state will take title to all community property if the spouse dies without a will that leaves some of the dead mate's interest in the community property to another, or a guardianship of a minor ad litem (for purposes of a lawsuit) ends automatically upon the child turning 18.

Biz and Cotton, this is an excerpt of the Plan Trust, per the link you posted. It looks to me that we, as owners of the CTs, are NOT beneficiaries of the Plan Trust. The beneficiaries are the former owners of LBHI Stock....see below.
We will be paid as debt, IMO, based on the clear language in the Plan Trust.
1.4 Title to Plan Trust Stock and the Stock Distributions.
(a) The issuance or transfer, respectively, of the Plan Trust Stock and the Stock Distributions to the Plan Trust are made by LBHI for the benefit and on behalf of the Beneficiaries consistent with their former relative priority and economic entitlements as holders
of LBHI Stock.
They did what they are supposed to do. Keep their mouths shut until they tell EVERYONE at the same time via a press release.
check it out.
Ace, I agree. I was hesitant to click on an unknown site.
They followed the law. The BOD can't say anything until they first say it in a PRESS RELEASE. I don't expect them to name names, but I saw the video and didn't even get a sense of what was planned.
I listened to the meeting as well. I thought they did a good job keeping their mouths shut, as they should.
You too Iron. Best wishes!
You are completely wrong on everything you said, including going back to amend prior year's due to social security back payments. The SS payments are taxed in the year received....no exceptions.
Likewise, payments for prior years dividends are taxed when received.
There are plenty of foreigners on this board, AND the IRS has plenty of "leads", thanks to this thread, IF they are monitoring this board. LOL
They are not tracking your Internet usage unless you are communicating with foreigners
Watch this board. Do not sell yet. It should be worth a lot more than it's present price, IMO.
