Thanks AD, I forgot that. I'll try to raise him over at Zeev's.
Anyone here have thoughts on BIIB? UBS put a sell on it but it has been trading higher nicely. I don't see how the Dutch auction has much to do with its recent rise at this point.
Gee Pantera, I don't know how sharp, but you have the babe part right! LOL. BTW, wasn't Babe a pig?
<<Dr. Marc Faber says Detroit real estate is probably the only reasonably priced real estate out there, but even if houses are selling for less than cars in Detroit, I don't think people are going to be loading up the truck to move there.>>
I agree with your comments but I see it boiling down to job growth. Detroit may be affordable, but the number of jobs isn't increasing, and is probably contracting.
Yes, I remember you mentioning that you didn't try to time the market with your CC. I was smiling at my foolishness in comparison!
It seems as though you are doing a good job with the covered calls, Joe. While you were collecting premiums on TIE, I was waiting for it to go higher! I haven't been able to watch as late either, but maybe in another month or so I'll get back into the swing of things.
I'll have to check the old posts to find out why the interest in UNG.
I was just pointing out on debt forgiveness. So, instead of apples and oranges I was talking about half an apple (or orange - take your pick):) The other point was on attempts to change the taxable nature of debt forgiveness. I wasn't talking about re-financing.
debt forgiveness is a taxable event in the eyes of the IRS. It doesn't matter what State, although there are efforts to change this.
PCLN looking fine AH. No position though.
Anyone know what happened to LCAV? It had quite a dive the past month.
Guz, Also keep in mind that brokerage accounts and many credit unions do not have FDIC insurance (they typically have other arrangements).
Avalon was a favorite of mine. Haven't listened to it in ages.
Not much premium to capture, in between the strikes. I like the idea, but will probably forget it as I focus on summer events.
<<BTW, I have some ERF as a core position as well. When it gets closer to strikes (45 or 50), I sell calls from time to time to juice the return>>
I have no knowledge, Newly, of Ttrader.com
Its nice to have company on ERF! I forget about the dividends, so much gets eaten up with taxes though. Right now I'm having trouble remembering if it is a qualified div or not.
BTW, saw a Pantera yesterday, during my daily walk through dt San Jose. I only knew it was a Pantera because it was written on the car! I don't think it was our long-lost poster here, as the car was gray and I bet he has a red one. (And I thought they only came in red.)
Anybody here still own ERF? I still have mine and wondering if it is time to set it free.
Hi BasserDan, just wondering why you think this:
<<I'm prolly wrong, but I don't think there is that much more upside coming our way in the near term.>>
Thanks!
Isn't this when we are supposed to buy - when blood is running through the streets? Must be you still see some downside in the near future.
<<RIMM's options really pooping today>>
Pooping or popping? I guess it was a poop for the time premium side and a pop for the ITM side. :)
If I were a good student, I would learn about "the greeks" and see how they might have helped this trade. But I'm feeling kind of lazy these days.
Excellent job on the options, Joe! Nice how you went in to protect your profit too. (I see what you mean by using the common AH). Someone on Zeev's thread commented that the options really popped today, whereas last earnings they didn't. Not sure if that is true or not.
How are you feeling today, cowboy?
Good point about the handy record keeping for credit cards.
I see that the post I sent to you earlier was lost when my i-net went down earlier. I was congratulating you on your fine option trades and wishing you luck tonight with RIMM. I am a chicken with RIMM. With all my trades (mostly last year) I came out about even! At least I can say it was fun and a learning experience, so that makes it a net plus. The thing I worry about with the option trades are that often the big moves are after hours when we can't do anything with the option positions (or so it seems).
Sorry to hear your hurtin' from that horse encounter. Did you check for broken bones?
I prefer to pay off my credit card bills every month, to having a debit card. If you have a problem with a merchant there is no protection with a debit card. Also, no rebates with debit cards. Granted its not a great deal of money but it adds up for us spendy types.
Debit cards are great for those who have problems handling credit though.
No problemo (as they say in California)
Amazing Choad. I see how not having a credit score would work out. However, I don't like to carry too much cash, so I like having credit on that basis alone.
I should have known. You got me with the Macau reference. ;)
WINN is Winn Dixie, a grocery chain. WYNN is the snorter you are thinking about.
I always thought trading Nolan Ryan was the worst Mets trade ever.
Nail strips for critter control! I love it!!
Choad, sometimes you come up with a real zinger! I couldn't help but laugh. (although I am sorry that people are stealing from our friend, Joe.)
AAPL due for a selloff - too obvious an answer. LOL
Jobs didn't talk about the iphone - maybe the reason for sell off? Or sell the news on Leopard - fall release.
IRIS still moving up. I have no idea why.
I understand your strategy, Joe. I owned the stock and was looking to juice my return. The premiums were enough to entice me.
Thank you!
I bought my calls back a bit ago for a small profit, wanting to re-sell after a nice upturn which didn't happen. I went out to Sept, but right now I am wondering why I didn't do the Julys.
Nice trade!
I've been meaning to ask... what is "es"? Thanks!
RE: food costs - I was listening to a seminar that took place in early May and the speaker claimed that food prices increased 7% since Jan.
LOW in Redding, CA has plenty of gas grills. Its a new store though (open since Oct). I visited for the first time this past Sunday. They seem to carry more SKUs than HD. I was surprised to see small appliances and cooking utensils.
Last time I was at HD a couple of weeks ago, they had plenty of gas grills too. With the popularity of outdoor "rooms" and grills, I am surprised your big competitors don't have lots of stuff to sell. Hey, as long as its good for you!!!
Wow, just noticed how weak SBUX has been. Maybe I have been cutting back on the coffee consumption more than I thought.
Hi Bearmove, Just count me in as one of the happy MCZ campers. Not a large position, but I'm in since .50. Thank you.
