ACE: The Desktop War is OVER your Team Won !!!
Ace the Adobe Creative Suites sell well enough on the Mac OS X platform. Apple's Video, Web and audio solutions are best in class. With Open Source, Shareware, Freeware and Commercial applications software is a non-issue. Heck with VPC I could run most Windows applications if I wanted.
Microsoft is old tech on its last legs; Linux and Open Source solutions are going to continue to erode Microsoft's commercial customers if they don't get their act together.
In the meantime, keep your Firewall On and your ports closed you never know when a JPEG with x86 code will crash thy system.
Good Luck to you sir !!!

OT: Dubbya, It's Hard Work ... Waaah !!!!
Look for the Spin and Chorus we'll here today, Kerry is a Fl*p, Fl*pper when Dubbya was bearly coherent at times. This administration has been inconsistent on nearly everyone of the key issues but it never gets spun that way.
Kerry clearly won the debate and articulated a clear path for our nation to take.
While *Dubbya was blubbering on about his love of Freedom.
I say we give him what he wants *his love of freedom to roam the wilds of Crawford, Texas this November.
It cannot happen soon enough ....

Clear their will be switchers but not in the numbers that many of us would hope. It would take massive identity theft and trillions of bits of lost data before many Windows users would even consider switching. As an investor I've learned to cut my losses ..... if you look at it from that view point then you will understand the reluctance by many computer users to switch platforms.

OT: This is the difference !!!
ACE, if Microsoft ever decided to re-write windows to deal with security and decided to produce a really innovative OS instead of a poor imitation for the PC market I would consider an AMD Opteron with that product. But, It's clear that Microsoft isn't interested. Windows has always been a poor imitation of the original MAC OS. If Apple Mac OS X ever had the security issues that Microsoft Windows has had most Mac users would abandon the platform. Mac OS X 10.3.5 is about as secure an operating systems can be. As it stands today all Microsoft Windows products are insecure and require third party add-ons to make it secure. Good Luck ACE .... your going to need some if you stay with the Windows platform.

OT: Windows Stalwarts
Hmmm...with so many people *and* companies (for once) having had it up to here with MSFT's security problems lately, could this finally be the "tipping point" for some of 'em?
Blue, you would think that would be the case ? I think alot of windows users think in terms of how much they have invested in the Windows platform in software, time and education and aren't willing to give it up. My only suggestion to them is get VPC for Windows and run the software on a Mac. That is obviously not a great solution for some Windows users who are 3D gaming fanatics; I strongly suggest they consider a PS/2 game console. Unforunately some of them are not too bright .... Many of them think that getting a new Windows system will resolve all these problems. It's all about justifying the investment they've made into the platform and basic human nature.... many people fear change.

I heard that Bombich is on staff at APPLE and contributed to the implementation of the Mac OS X migration software. I expect we will some more of his work in 10.4 Tiger.

Hands-on iMac G5 impressions
Just test drove a new G5 iMac 1.8 ghz 20" and I must say I'm impressed with the engineering. The unit was whisper quiet and fast. The most important part was that all of the parts are user replaceable. Three standard philip head screws open the unit case. The white lucite or acrylic case echoes the iPod design. The LCD display is top notch. We are getting a 17' demo unit to show around our organization soon. Apple systems are now being offered along side the Dell Win XP systems. The Apple pricing is very competitive and its now a battle for hearts and minds. Apple has a great and affordable consumer product line-up. I'm working on getting as many users an opportunity to drive one of these puppies before they make a decision on what type of system they want to replace the aging Dell hardware.
The Apple user base at my organization has grown by 3% this last year making the company roughly 12% Apple. I'm aiming for another 6% to 10% more Apple systems in the company and I believe the new iMac can do that.
BR, Altaire4 .... Go AAPL !!!!!
Linda, glad I got back in ..... I think its well on its way to $42.00 a share.
The iMac G5 is getting great press.
The Windows virus and malware situation is out of control. Unfortunately, many Windows users are deluded in thinking that if they buy a new Windows PeeCee with XP that this will solve their problems.
A Very frustrating situation.
How many times do PeeCee users have to get burned before they learn. Here's hoping that some of them find Linux or Apple OS X as a solution.
BR, Altaire4
Linda it came close to $38.00 today but I don't see enough volume.
All good things to those who wait.
With 400 % more viruses targeting Windows system this year from last. I expect some moderate growth in Apple system sales over the next Two years.
If Apple came out with a headless iMac under $800.00 dollars we would see some astonishing sales growth but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
It's more likely that a new Powerbook G5 (when ever they get that off the ground) will drive some serious share.
What do you think of the new iMac G5 ?
BR, Altaire4
Linda I Care....
After much hemming and Hawwing I bought back into AAPL. Sales of Hpod and iMac G5's are great !!! The next couple of Quarters are going to be incredible.
Go AAPL !!!!
That says it all. Thanks for the link.

i disagree the DRM is an advantage, imo the advantage is that when you strip away the DRM you're left with an industry-standard licensable-to-anyone, playable-everywhere file.
Then what makes makes Apple's music solution better ?
The iPod ? ... alot of cheaper devices out there.
The iTunes store ?
IMHO, Apples use of the Fairplay DRM may very well be Apple's #1 advantage over the competition. Fairplay is to the Music world sort of what MS Office is to the Business world. The fact you can export to MP3 is a cool feature no doubt but it doesn't keep customers coming to the iTunes store when cheaper prices are out there. The HP deal almost gives Apple a lock on the music niche.
Time will tell, But I'd put money on AAPL on this one.
BR, Altaire4
WLD, What else can Real Do ?
I don't see that Real has many other choices with Microsoft, Apple and Sony putting the squeeze on theml. Other companies have used this discount pricing tactic before and it worked for a company called Dell.
APPLE's only advantage in this media war is brand recognition and its DRM.
Would Apple have been better off if it licensed fairplay to Real ?
BR, Altaire4
Linda its sounds like your the new iHub AAPL bull.
I think if you add in the iMac sales you come up with a fair value of between $36 - $38 dollars a share.
But, if you count on irrational exuberance AAPL could go as high $48 - $50 sometime next year. A new G5 Powerbook could make this scenario possible. I'm looking to get back into AAPL below $35.00 a share and ride it for the long haul.
BR, Altaire4
AAPL Rocks !!!
As much as it hurts .... I completely sold out of AAPL at 36.00 a share for a nice 35% profit. Looking for a re-entry point. I wish all my stocks performed as well as AAPL !!
OT: Kudos to Bootz and WLD,
Your both dead-on about the current political situation. I'm hoping that enough rational and thinking Americans go to the polls and send Dubbya back to Crawford Texas. We need a major shift in the direction of this country before Dubbya and his band of banditos suck the marrow out of what we know as the Middle-Class.
If the crowd of protesters in New York are any indication I may get my wish.
Kerry is not my first choice for the job but at least the John-Johns understand the situation.
Any shred of decency both Powell and McCain had, has been subverted by towing the administrations party line.
Dubbya blew it in his RNC acceptance speech; Driveling on about justifying our presence in iraq. Many of the Republican delegates looked horrified. I don't know if it was because of the protesters being escorted out of the convention hall or the lack of passion in Dubbya's voice.
Alot of glum faces unlike the DNC which had a very positive and upbeat message.
Best Regards, Altaire4
Hi Linda,
I've made a 40% profit and will use the cash to average down on some of my other long term investments. I'm very skeptical about the current market trends. I was one of those AAPL investors that bought shares at 14.00 dollars a share years ago and held thru the 70 dollars a share peak. If it goes above 34.00 a share I'll sell another 100 shares. I believe you need to lock in some profits when other investments are cheap and can deliver a better return.
BR, Altaire4

I can understand the sacrifice of young American soldiers for a good and noble cause.
But to depose one brutal tyrant and install another is unforgiveable.

To top it off .... the new iraqi government has just reinstated the death penalty.

Vote your conscience this november and make it count !!!
Lets get Real ... Apple is Playing for Keeps
Apple wants to dominate the Music Downloads business to drive sales of it iPods. Real wants a share of the downloadable music market. If Apple dominates the music market with iPods and controls the downloadable standard Real will wither and die leaving Apple in a stronger position to compete against Microsoft WMA.
So the question is: Is Apple stronger with Real supporting iPod hardware or not ?
Is Microsoft a stronger company now that it dominates the Office productivity suite ?
Is Microsoft a stronger company now because it owns the web browser market.
Apple wants to dominate this niche and if successful will be a more profitable company.
So whats bad about that.

OT: Barack Obama
Barack Obama's keynote at the DNC was both enthralling and engaging. Obama has a very bright future, he is the only democrat besides Bill Clinton that has been able to fully express what the American dream is all about.
Since APPLE was unwilling to form an alliance with Real.
Real CEO Glaser has gone on the offensive
From Forbes:
RealNetworks Says Files Can Play on IPod [/b}
RealNetworks Inc. says it has created technology that allows songs purchased through its online music services to be played on Apple Computer Inc.'s popular iPod player, just a few months after complaining that Apple was rebuffing attempts to form an alliance.
In an interview Friday, RealNetworks chief executive Rob Glaser said he did not know how Apple would react to the new technology. Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., did not return numerous phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Glaser said the new system, called Harmony Technology, will let people securely transfer music bought using RealNetworks' music download services to an iPod or virtually any other portable music player.
Previously, music purchased through RealNetworks' music download services could most easily be played on devices that supported its copyright protection technology. By the same token, the easiest way to get digital music onto the iPod player was through Apple's iTunes Music Store, which uses its own system. The same held true for devices that supported Microsoft's Windows Media Player anti-piracy technology.
Microsoft said it could not immediately comment on the system.
Glaser said the new the system works by essentially translating the various anti-piracy technologies, to make the players' systems compatible with RealNetworks' system. RealNetworks said it was not concerned that the system would be illegal.

OT: Rich, I've served in the armed forces and want a safer world for my children.
But, when a commander in chief allienates our allies. When, the planners of this war ... have not served in the armed services because of deferments and when an administration decides to set aside the Geneva convention it makes you wonder wether hard working American soldiers are being used as cannon fodder.
When the Current Commander in chief .... thought nothing of going AWOL for a year ..... you have to question the character of such a leader.
Hunting down Alqaeda and terrorist is one thing but occuping iraq is something different !!
We could do a significantly better job hunting down terrorist if all our allies supported our efforts.
The occupation of iraq was ill advised at the outset, Saddam was contained, the intelligence presented by Powell and the administration was both grossly exaggerated and in at least one case fabricated.
We need new leadership thats both credible and willing to refocus on the real threats. Terrorism, Nuclear Proliferation and economic decline !!!
And FYI not everybody that opposes this war is a liberal. Stop drinking the conservative political rhetoric. Everyone on this board wants a safer and prosperous America. You don't accomplish that by killing or torturing thousands of innocent iraqi citizen's. The prudent use of military force is not a liberal ideal its a sane conservative one !!!
The Commander in Chief is still ultimately responsible for the actions of our military forces. So I guess Dick Cheney ... er I mean Dubbya's (The one with the flight suit on the carrier that stated mission accomplished) has to be held responsible come election day.

Check to see if your systems supports DMA (Direct Memory Access).
Some G3 systems use DMA which when used with Jaguar or higher is an incredible speed boost. I rebuilt a Beige G3 266 mhz with Jaguar and it runs faster than a 350 mhz G3 Blue & White go figure.
OT: Correction Quarter of a Billion Dollars.eom
Correction: thats a quarter of a Billion dollars !!!
IMHO it could go either way .... the American electorate is fickle.
Dubbya hasn't fully unleashed his quarter of a Million dollar ad blitz for re-election. The undecided vote could swing either way. The timing of the latest TERROR warning following the news about John Edwards selection as VP smacks of Political smoke and mirrors. Since both Kerry and Edwards voted for the war the anti-war voters could end up throwing their support to a third party and end up giving Dubbya and Cheney four more years to bankrupt the federal system.
I guess its really true ... I get more cynical as I get older. Anybody have any positive spin on all this ?
I continue to believe that Al Quaeda(sp) sincerely believes that getting Bush reelected is in their best interests and will continue to fragment the Western world. A "Homeland" event will serve their purposes well and assure the Cheney administration another term.
