I'm missing something here.

CDE
89 million shares outstanding (had a reverse split about three years ago). 1.8 billion market cap.
They expect to produce 170,000 ounces of gold and 17,000,000 ounces of silver in 2010 and that will rise next year.
their operating cash costs are about 5 dollars an ounce for their silver coming out of three mines. One of them is a operating high cash cost of 8 dollars but the other two are around 3-3.25 per ounce.
The cash cost of the main gold mine is around 490 an ounce.
Last qtr there was about 40 million cash equivalents and 333 million long term debt. They also provide Franco Nevada some gold production from one of their mines keeping only enough to cover their cost of production (400 an ounce). This requires them to record a large non-cash loss each qtr while the price off gold is rising. The main gold production though is unhedged.
The important thing is their cash flow is improving dramatically and this has not been reflected in their market cap and share price.

CDE Undervalued
I really like Coeur going forward. It is one of a few undervalued silver plays out there that still have not been valued properly. And now they are a significant gold producer as well.
At least an immediate 100% upside when the market gets around to recognizing the value. The quarterly results Nov 4th should help shine a light on this opportunity.

Is anyone following this company? is their takeover attempt of CGC over? Gamon gold the winner?
this seems like a good entry point at $1.87 Cdn
I took a small position on spec but might add more if this looks good.
JFF7
ot: why
Seemed like a pretty lazy day considering gold and silver were both up nicely. The precious metal stocks did not really react much.
Is the market waiting for something I am not aware of?
Think I will go fishing tomorrow instead of watch the paint dry.

CDE / CDM.TO $19.85 89 million shares outstanding
3 major mines in three years and another one coming in 2011.
17,000,000 ounces of silver to be produced and just increased gold production from 45,000 ounces to 170,000 ounces of gold with the mine they just opened in Alaska in June.
300 millions ounces of silver in the ground and 2.8 million ounces of gold (expect to add another 2 million ounces by exploration drilling they are just starting up around the Alaska mine).
One of the last big silver producers to get revalued because of the rising gold and silver prices. Q3 earnings in the first week of November are going to be stellar.

CDE - Wheeler
yes they need some new blood at the top. Unfortunately he is Chairman, CEO and President of the company. If they had different chairman then maybe there would be a chance to replace him.
Still the leadership won't change the great numbers that will be posted this qtr in a few weeks. Price of silver outstripping the increase in the price of gold.
CDE is 50% gold and 50% silver now.

CDE / CDM.to "explosive ptoential"
"Coeur has explosive potential. In 2010, the company is hoping to produce 17.3 million ounces of silver and 170,000 ounces of gold at cash costs of $4 and $490, respectively."
http://www.thestreet.com/story/10883039/1/what-high-precious-metal-prices-mean-for-coeur-dalene.html
I now own some CDE shares.
The most recent qtr will be reported the first week of November. The newly opened mine in Alaska has been running at full production for this qtr (mine opened in June) at an anual rate of 125,000 ounces. This was one of the smoothest ramp ups in production seen in a long time.
Also coming off a loss last qtr where they had to book a mark-to-market non-cash loss that produced a 57 cents a share operating loss. This latest qtr will look fanstanstic against that backdrop.
JFF7
why is this company so undervalued. Silver going up like crazy and this companny is highly leveraged to the price of silver.
The share price should be flying up.
still underdiscovered?
JFF7
CDE / CDM.TO $20.17 USD / $20.34 CDN
thanks for the reply Cork. Hecla also has a large short position. So does that make this an industry thing with producers that are listed on US exchanges?
These guys are scheduled to produce 170.000 ounces of gold in the next year. On top of the 17 milllion ounces of silver which equates to about 250,000 ounces of gold equivalent. That's about a 450,000 ounces gold equivalent producer. Huge.
I am still trying to figure out the loss from last qtr. It looks like a huge number of (42.5) million was recorded against operating profits and all the news release had to say about it in a footnote was that it was "($42.5) million in other fair value adjustments".
what the heck is that about? If that doesn't repeat this qtr in first week on November, this company will report a operating profit for the first time in 4 qtrs.
Outside of that, this seems very undervalued. This was an 80 dollar stock in 2008 (reverse soilt adjusted).

does anyone know why there is such a large short position in CDE? It's almost 12 % of float.
Just starting to dig into this one. Have taken a small position to whet my appetite.

OGC.TO
it seems in reading the report that OGC will not only have the resources to put the Phillipine mine in to action but there will be sufficient capitaliztion from the cashflow and convertibles to fund something else within the next 12 months. Maybe someting with all their NZ and Phillipine properties that have yet to be drilled.
Short term pullback and long term substantial gain. Maybe the market will even look positively on this PP after an intial hit.
JFF7
I was hoping they did not have to do this but I guess it is better to remain well capitalized these days than to try to pay for it out of earnings flow. Debt would have been a better alternative.

I'm not a true investor like you guys. I buy when it high and sell when it's low. The higher it goes, the more I want it. I am living on a diet of KD so I can buy a few more shares each week.
Can you guys give me some more lessons on how to make money on this stock?

now how am I supposed to accumulate more if that sort of thing happens? Geesh.

I'll try to watch it that way. These rules of thumbs (to which there is always exceptions of course) are a great way to make sense of the markets and to give the confidence to make the right moves at the appropriate times.

where's CI and other to complain about the share price...???
those guys were like lightening rods... at least they brought some discussion to the board...this silent treatment is killing me...missing my entertainment fix.
picked up some more at 42 cents...looking like sub 40 will be possible...didn't think that would happen but sometimes you just have to take what the market is willing to give you.

I thought crude prices were reacting to good China GDP numbers.... speculation drives cruse prices more than supply / demand nowadays. At least that is the way I am seeing it these days.

I heard that Gold season takes the month of Oct off because of India jewelry buying dies off. Don't have a link to back that up though.
AMC.TO....how can a low market cap company like this get such great terms. Starting to think this thing is way under valued. The project financing was put in place without the feasibility study even being complete. It must be real obvious that it's a great deal is they can get financing this early without warrants or gold hedging.
I think I will keep my shares I got at 15 cents.
JFF7
I am leaning to looking at this stock more favorable now. I don't think I will be selling 38 cent shares I bought recently. I may add some more here by lightening up on some other gold holdings. The up side for this seems better than some of the others in light of where gold price is at right now.
It seems like the things people don't like about the company are a lot less immaterial than the things that people like about the company.
JFF7
or maybe he knew he was leaving so he sold his interests and then the annoucement came out. You really don't know what happened as the timing is unknown.
JFF7
haven't a lot of the wells been drilled and continue to be drilled because of contractual obligations and then just capped?
They may stop drilling but it will take longer for the supply side to dry up because there are already a lot of caped wells that can easily come online.
I think NGAS prices are low for a while. I'll take oil plays anyday over BGAS plays fro the foreseeable future.
JFF7
Fifer's move to non-executive chairman before was a move to distance him from the day to day operations. That's what the "change of management" last year seemed to be needed. We all know he was puling the strings but for appearances sake it was done I suppose. "non-executive" allowed him to still play in the day to day workings.
I think the situation now is that he has bigger fish to fry and is relinquishing some of the management control he was doing. That control position will be filled by the new president from what it looks like. Must be someone he trusts.

Does anyone still follow this company? any ideas of why it is jumping up today. Looks like it may have bottomed after a long drop down.
I can only think that maybe the stock price was recently dropped down for the 15 cents PP they just made and that now the share price is returning to noramal support.
Can't find any news. Just wonder why the movement.
JFF7
So what, you think Inmet is going to buy out PTQ?
Highly unlikely, especially anytime soon. Inmet has a huge project ahead of them. Do you really think they will want to take on the additional work of acquiring and developing PTQ's interests right now. It's going to take them years to move forward with what they have on their plates right now.
JFF7
I'd agree with what your saying. It makes sense.
we should be able to see 1 buck to 1.25. They have to get the balance sheet in shape and get the leaching process in production.
They could expand gold production at the mill but that means they have to be able to feed it. That will reguire more drilling and expansion costs at the mill. So we are a ways from pursuing that yet. Cleanup the balance sheet first and then look for expansion opportunities. They'll get better terms if they wait for a cleaner balance sheet. Some moey would come in from warrants if the price could get that high.
JFF7
I think we are stuck with Fifer. He is tied in politically and you need that to succeed in a country like Panama.
JFF7
yes it sort of surreal isn't it. A company that is producing 6000 ounces a month of gold with the POG at all time highs but the company only has a market cap of 67 million (based on fully diluted).
It's the lack of clarity that is holding the stock back. Only a small number of investors are interested until they can see things clearer. The biggest issue is the baance sheet with the debt refinancing but there is also things like, what is the current cash costs of production?, what will be the cost of getting the leaching underway? what are alot of the mining stats like recovery rates and head grades? more important what are these over a period of time.
There has also turned out to be a lot of distractions from the politics of Panama that has hurt us (again the stories back and forth causes problems with clarity).

CGA.TO
no wonder the price is up and down lie crazy today. Gold up 22 dollars at theopen and then the company issues a PR that says they finshed the year with 150,000 ounces produced. It makes it sound like they are short of being a 200,000 ounce producer which investors are expecting. There is no mention at all of what rate they are producing as of the end of the year. are they close to 200,000 ounces? Investors don't knw. They simply saw the 150,000 ounce production number.
no a very well worded PR.

CGA ANNOUNCES CONSISTENT GROWTH IN OPERATING RESULTS TO ACHIEVE STRONG ANNUAL PERFORMANCE IN ITS START UP YEAR
PERTH, Western Australia, Sep. 14, 2010 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) --
ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE AUSTRALIAN SECURITIES EXCHANGE AND TORONTO STOCK EXCHANGE
/NOT FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES OR FOR RELEASE TO US NEWS WIRE SERVICES/
The Board of CGA Mining Limited ("CGA", "the Company") (TSX Code : CGA, ASX Code : CGX) is pleased to announce the operating results for the year ended 30 June 2010. In its maiden year of operations, the Masbate Gold Project has achieved significant progress with consistent growth and improvements each quarter in gold production, throughput and plant availability.
Design throughput of the processing plant was 4Mtpa. The plant is currently operating at an annualised throughput of approximately 6Mtpa, based on the August throughput achieved of 0.538Mt. Plant availability was 94.7% up on forecast of 92%.
CGA is now well advanced in a planned plant investment program of US$15M to upsize the existing plant and lock in a sustainable 6.5Mtpa throughput level.
Scoping studies are now underway for a further future plant expansion designed to fully optimise the project.
See http://files.newswire.ca/578/CGA_results.pdf for charts outlining quarterly throughput and gold produced.
The average operating statistics achieved for the year ended 30 June 2010 are as follows:
Total tonnes milled 4.5 Mtpa Average grade 1.26 g/t Recovery 83.2% Availability 88.9% Production 150,143 ounces Average cash costs US$548

here is the link to the "updated" corporate presentation.
http://www.petaquilla.com/news/pdf/corp_pre_2010.pdf
Too bad they didn't put more effort in to updating it. Looks like all tey did was add a slide about the refinancing to it. It stil says one of their 2010 priorities is to expand production milling capacity from 2200 TPD to 5000 tPD (well it's Sept already and that isn't going to happen in 2010) and that they will produce 100,000 ounces in 2010 (well that wouldn't be happening either even if they get the leaching into production). Still have the April production update in it instead of providing new numbers.
Many other things but it's obvious they didn't put a lot of effort into updating it.
JFF7
CI, the problem with Fifer's options (not shares yet) from May of this year is that 3/4 of them are priced at .23. The share price could only move to .46 and he would have a double. I don't think we can count on flying on his coat-tails to wealth and finacial freedom.
Yes it's true that the further he moves the share price the better off he is but there does not seem to be any rush to move the share price up. He has now found other ways (finders fee for financing) to reward himself above and beyond his salary.
He can find lots of ways to improve his financial position with the amount of control he has and the business / political environment the company operates in. I suspect that is one of the main drivers of the spin-off infrastruture company.
