DD Google Talks Up Mobile-search Push
http://www.cellular-news.com/story/16354.php
SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones) -- Ahead of Google's annual analyst day, which kicks off later Thursday, a company product executive underscored the search engine's desire to penetrate the non-PC market by being on the homepage of mobile devices.
The ability for users to have "one-click access" to Google services on mobile phones is "pretty important," said Deep Nishar, director, product management at Google, at a RBC Capital Markets conference, held Thursday morning.
Nishar said that T-Mobile, saw a higher rate of usage of its mobile devices that had easy access to Google's services available. Nishar also said that Google launched text advertisements connected to mobile searches in Asia on a limited basis. Google has deals to provide wireless services to Motorola and T-Mobile in Europe.
Later Thursday, Google is hosting its annual analyst day at its headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. An estimated 300 analysts and investors are expected to attend. Analysts are expected to seek answers about Google's plans to diversify its revenue, which is currently derived primarily from paid-search advertising.
Earlier this week, Google announced that its news service is available for mobiles.

DD Phone, media firms see mobile ads soon
Thu Mar 2, 2006am ET
http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyID=2006-03-02T015413Z_01...
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cellphone and media companies expect to see a sizable market for advertising on cellphones in coming years, with options including advertising-subsidized video services, top executives said on Wednesday.
Viacom Inc. <VIA.N>, which runs MTV and Comedy Central, is working with major operators, and plans to play a major role in the first trials of mobile ads in the next year.
Sprint Nextel Corp. <S.N>, the No. 3 U.S. mobile provider, is keen to offer subsidized wireless videos and local ads to cellphones.
"There's no question that advertisers are interested," said Viacom Chief Executive Tom Freston, speaking in New York at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit.
Freston said Viacom, which works with about 70 cellphone companies around the world, is talking to "various" operators about details of how advertising could work. He believes mobile video ads would have to be very short to succeed, and would depend on customers allowing them in exchange for deals on their cell phone.
"What amount of advertising are they willing to accept in exchange for lower fees," he said.
As it aims to boost revenue with new features like video, Sprint Nextel is also looking at technology and business models around providing advertising to people using these services.
Sprint Nextel's chief technology officer Barry West pointed to the possibilities for sending information such as special offers at a local Italian restaurant to phones that can pinpoint the user's location.
"The whole advertising world has a new mechanism to reach their customers. You can hone in on customers in your area," said West, who was also speaking at the summit.
Sprint could also offer its cheaper mobile video services if an ad is included, its Chief Financial Officer said.
"There are some people who would be willing to have their services subsidized," Sprint CFO Paul Saleh said. Sprint will work on cellphone advertising in the next couple of years.
Advertisers are also keen on the prospects for putting ads on cellphones and particularly via mobile video services.
"It's a major opportunity." Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP Group Plc. <WPP.L>, the world's second largest advertising and marketing company, said at the summit.
Sorrell said the methods of measuring how many people see the advertising have yet to be determined, but that measurability was a key attraction.
"People will experiment," he said. "They won't make the decision to put millions of dollars in it (immediately). They'll make the decision on an exploratory basis."
Asked when it would become mainstream, he answered, "Quickly."

Cabernet and Success, great DD and thanks for posting the updated charts showing Neom's market share in the board header.
SS9173
Cabernet, nice to see more good press for Neom. Thanks for posting.
SS9173
It is surprising to me that TS totally left out Neom in his update this evening.

All of these CEO's and their talented staff such as Andreas Weyer speaking at this conference will help get Neomedia's name out to the masses before long. :>)
SS9173
Movieguy,
Are you saying that all of the GoWindow words that appear to be "live" are really demos such as Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo, ESPN, Ebay, etc?
Based on JP's posts a couple of weekends ago referenced now in the board header (copied and pasted below), I was hoping that we would see an announcement soon regarding these being "turned on"...soon being well-before 2007.
"This is not on NEOM's webpage "Go Window". I am actually using my mobile and they all clear VeriSign's security link access." - JP
Neomedia Technologies' "Go Window" ( http://www.paperclick.com/goWindow.jsp ) example keywords that are currently live (not a demo): NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, ESPN, EBAY, INFO, PRICE, DIRECTIONS, CITY, MOVIE, YAHOO, ABC, HOTMAIL, WEATHER, NWA, FLIGHTS, HOROSCOPE, GAMES, RINGTONES...
If I understand your post correctly, you believe they will not be activated to either much later this year or until 2007.
I would like to understand your perspective better on the so-called "live" words referenced above and included in the board header.
Thanks,
SS9173
I was looking for a possible Microsoft connection with CodeWindow via Google search. I am not sure that I found anything significant. Below are some interesting links:
http://www.codewindow.com/ (dot net nuke upgrade error - don't know what that means...has something to do with a database it appears...is it something that is in the works, and will be available soon?)
http://www.knowdotnet.com/articles/contextmenus.html
Excerpt:
If you are wondering where the names "Code Window" and "Selection" come from. On the Microsoft site, you can search for Automation Samples. When you find that page, you will see an add-in sample named "CmdBrowser". You can download that sample add-in, build, install and run it to see a list of all the Commands and Menus in the IDE. It just so happens that the Code Window popup menu can be referenced by the string "Code Window". When a control is selected on a Form in the designer window, you can reference the popup by the string "Selection". Obviously, there is a name for each of the popup menus in the IDE. If you need to find the name of other context or tool windows, I suggest you download and run the CmdBrowser add-in previously mentioned.
Comments??? Is it possible this Paperclick CodeWindow will be a joint venture between Microsoft and Neom? Or is it totally unrelated? I am leaning toward the latter.

DD Vodafone issues profit warning
27 February 2006
http://www.telecoms.com/itmgcontent/tcoms/news/articles/20017338395.html
Vodafone on Monday warned that its assets are overvalued by as much as £28bn and that it is facing a slowdown in revenue growth.
Nearly £4bn was wiped off the value of the company as shares dropped by around 6 per cent in early trading which later picked up to level-off at 4 per cent lower, at 112.25p.
Vodafone's chief executive Arun Sarin, who has regularly courted speculation about his future at the helm, said he has no intention to step down.
The company said it would absorb a hit of between £23bn and £28bn, principally on its German unit following its takeover of Mannesmann in 2000.
It said it expects to take on a year-on-year decline in mobile earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation margins, excluding Japan, of about 1 per cent on an organic basis.
The drop, said the company, is because initiatives to cut costs had not been enough to offset pricing pressures and investment in customers along with regulatory changes.
Mark Newman, chief research officer at Informa Telecoms and Media, Telecoms.com's parent company, said: "This should come as little surprise to the industry. With its rapid diversification away from developed markets into developing ones Vodafone has been sending out signals for the last six months that its shifting its strategic focus. Vodafone's problem in Europe is that it finds itself in three of the most competitive markets. Both the UK and Italy have become intensely competitive over the last year following the launch of Hutchison Telecom's 3 service. And Germany , historically one of the most conservative markets in Europe is now seeing intense price competition from MVNOs."
Newman predicts things will also become increasingly difficult for Vodafone in Japan where there are only three current operators currently, soon to be joined by two new players. "If Vodafone could sell (in Japan) it would, but it cannot find a buyer," said Newman.
Ultimately, Newman believes Sarin must take responsibility for the company's woes particularly his questionable strategy in the emerging 3G market. "Despite reasonable success in terms of 3G handset sales the evidence so far is that few people are using 3G services. For now Vodafone is spending a lot of money subsidizing expensive 3G handsets but is not seeing the return in terms of higher ARPU."

Inforit, M-qube headquarters is near Boston, and they do have a branch office near Seattle, which is what I was referring to in this post. In my subsequent reply to my prior post, I am now presuming the Washington connection to be most likely Microsoft.

Thanks Hangdog. I will include in my weekend report. EOM
YJ, as I said I don't believe the wording is targeting the individual's personal experience with MAC or Microsoft office products, but the regulatory / legal aspects of Paperclick interfacing with Microsoft Office products. There is a big difference IMO.
SS9173
Silicon Space is in CA, but why would a Business Development Mgr need to go there frequent enough to put it in a job posting?
SS9173
Hip Cricket is based out of Connecticut. EOM
Rotorhead, M-qube has an office in Bellevue, WA not far from Microsoft. But to your point, the Microsoft "dot" in this case appears stronger especially when I consider the wording in the Corporate Lawyer job posting, and we have GoWindow working with Hotmail and MSN. So, I think the possibility of Microsoft doing a licensing or 20% equity agreement is looking more likely.
SS9173
Inforit1, it could be that Neomedia's HR policy is to post all job openings. Therefore, they could fill these positions from within (that would include all the employees that are employed by companies recently acquired), or from the outside.
SS9173
Microsoft deal in the works???
From the Corporate Lawyer job posting:
Knowledge and understanding of public regulatory and monitoring requirements of:
* Public companies
* Microsoft Office products
* Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
This doesn't mean the individual needs to be experienced with computer use of Microsoft office products. It means IMO that they need to be knowledgeable of the regulatory / legal aspects of interfacing Paperclick with Microsoft products.
Hmmmm???
SS9173
Perhaps we are targeting M-qube and IPSH.
Look at this clue from the PC Business Development Mgr posting:
You'll work in sunny South West Florida, interacting with bright, well adjusted people located from Boston, Washington, California, Chicago, Germany and London.
Now who is in Washington? M-qube
http://www.m-qube.com/html/contact.html
And who is in California? IPSH
http://www.ipsh.net/ (click on contact us for locations)
SS9173
Mydog, Neomedia is definitely targeting video webcasts. We could also speculate they may be considering television infomercials or commercials as part of a public PC launch campaign.
Below are some extracts from the Corporate Communications Director job posting:
* Working with marketing and executive management you will also help develop the Company Sales tools including Video’s, Brochures and presentations.
* You will partner with graphic designers, photographers, video producers and other media personnel on simple and complex media products/campaigns, as needed.
* The Ideal Candidate: - will have worked as a TV reporter, doing news or entertainment reporting.
* You must have experience developing and executing a variety of internal and external communications techniques, including the customary tools of internal and external communications (press releases, newsletters, presentations, employee communications events, corporate advertising, marketing materials, Web sites, and Webcasts).
SS9173
Cabernet, another good catch...I didn't see that last statement when I reviewed the career opportunities last week.
A phenomenal year awaits NeoMedia and we need you to join our team!
SS9173
Chartist1, unless someone else volunteers I will be doing this & more this weekend per my post yesterday:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=9829260
SS9173
Cabernet, nice find. This is good press coverage for Neom. EOM
Steelers Fan, I think the dots are aligned for an Enpocket licensing agreement or acquisition. As you and some other posters have pointed out there is the BlueRun Ventures (formerly Nokia Ventures) connection as well as 12snap. Enpocket also represents about 20% of that Mobile Marketing pie chart shown at the ASM. JMHO.
SS9173
Success, Thanks for the confirmation. I am looking forward to the BSDS shareholders approving it (IMO a formality at this point) so we can move forward, and hopefully the pps will move up as well afterwards.
SS9173
Beacs, that's profound: Later still..... "Look what I just clicked" ... and we'll know what Click means...it means NEOM.
I like it!!!
SS9173
Is anyone up for this assignment that would be helpful IMO for all of us?: Put together an estimate showing a consolidated summary including line item detail of all these M&A's to include the following:
* Sales Revenues (consolidated with a breakdown for each business)
* Acquisition Cost (consolidated cash & consolidated stock with a breakdown for each business)
* Headcount (consolidated with a breakdown for each business)
* A consolidated list of major partners by category - service providers, brand marketers, etc.
I do realize this request is going to require the individual to make some assumptions, that is why I emphasize that this will require some "guesstimating".
If no one is willing to do this, I will attempt to do this weekend when I have more time available. Thanks in advance.

DD go2’s Mobile Local Search Directory Reports Record Traffic
Written by go2
Tuesday, 21 February 2006
http://www.symbianone.com/content/view/2913/
go2’s Award-Winning Mobile, Local Search, Directory and Movie Guide Websites handled over 24 million unique mobile phone local search sessions in 2005 in the U.S., up 51 percent from 2004
Irvine, Calif. – Feb. 21, 2006 – go2 Directory Systems (www.go2.com), a leading provider of local search and movie guide information over mobile devices in the U.S., announced today that visits to its mobile, local search websites increased 51 percent in 2005 to more than 24.2 million unique user sessions, up from 15.9 million in 2004. During 2005, go2’s mobile websites, which include Yellow Page, local search and other local information, delivered more than 210 million page views of local information, up 37 percent from over 150 million in 2004.
“With more than 210 million mobile, local search page views in 2005, go2 continues to be one of the most popular mobile websites in the U.S. and a leading mobile, local search directory and movie guide,” said Lee Hancock, CEO and founder of go2. “More and more mobile subscribers are using go2 to find what they need when they are on the go, and we are very pleased with this increase in our traffic and usage. Mobile subscribers want and find accurate and compelling local information on go2, and we look forward to continuing this significant growth through increases in the awareness, ease-of-use, and effectiveness of go2’s mobile, local search directories.”
The most popular searches in the go2 Directory in 2005 are a clear reflection of the most typical of categories almost anyone would search for when on-the-go: movies, restaurants, accommodations and other travel-related searches.
"The popularity of using a mobile phone to search for local information and services continues to grow in North America, as demonstrated by go2's 2005 traffic numbers," said Linda Barrabee, senior analyst for the Wireless/Mobile United States Decision Service of Yankee Group. "The key elements for mobile local search will continue to be ease of use, with limited click-throughs and a friendly user-interface."
Launched in 1999 as the world’s first mobile Yellow Page Directory, go2 is now one of the most widely used mobile, local search directories in the United States. With eleven different, category-specific directories available today, including go2 Business, go2 Dining, go2 Movies and go2 Shopping, the go2 network of local search directories has one-of-a kind, multi-category placement on the wireless Web menus of most major wireless carriers. This unique, multi-directory approach provides tremendous flexibility to wireless carriers to make it easier for their subscribers to quickly find the local information they are looking for.
go2 also served more than 50 million ad impressions in 2005, many for marquee advertisers such as ABC, American Express, Jamdat, ProFlowers.com, Progressive Insurance, the U.S. Navy, Volkswagon and many others. Click-through rates for mobile advertising on go2 are significantly higher than click-through rates for online advertising, in part based on go2’s ability to target advertising by both location and directory search category.
About go2®
go2 owns and operates the go2 network of mobile, local search and directory websites containing Yellow Page, movie guide and other local information. go2 directories have industry-leading distribution through one-of-a-kind multi-category placements on the wireless Web menus of most major U.S. carriers. With millions of businesses listed in go2’s database, go2’s local search directories provide fast, convenient access to local information, including movie theater show times and customer specials and promotions. All go2 directories are fully integrated and feature one-touch calling and turn-by-turn directions together with detailed information on many U.S. businesses, including products and brands carried, hours of operations, etc. go2 Advertisers include ABC, American Express, AMF Bowling, Holiday Inn, Jamba Juice and ProFlowers.com.
Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., go2 is a privately held company. go2 holds or licenses several U.S. patents for location-based, Yellow Page-like directory services on mobile devices. For more information, visit www.go2.com.
