Response from Jordan at IR, who btw got back to me in about 5 mins and is still working at 9:45pm. I showed him the screenshot of Tilrays ads, asked about his opinion on THC breathalyzer effecting legalization, and asked if there was any truth in the peace Naturals lawsuit.
Hi XXXXXXX- Thanks for passing these along. The rules around advertising say that LPs can't promote products so I think the first one you sent is over the line but the second one would be okay because its advertising a service. I'll send this to our compliance team to see what they think.
As for the breathalyzer, I think it's a consideration but not a game changer as technologies could be developed quickly if the right incentive existed.
I can't comment on anything to do with lawsuits because it wouldn't be appropriate. I hope you can understand that.
Thanks for the support and the detective work!

As I posted on Nov 29, I thought that a lack of a competent THC measurement test is a serious roadblock to legalization.. As I recall most posters thought it was a stupid point to make.. Either way I was checking THC breathalyzer and googled it and came across this website. https://www.leafly.com/news/headlines/california-company-to-begin-testing-cannabis-breathalyzer it's not the article that caught my attention but that the advertisement on it was for Tilray .. Order of $50 first order free shipping register today. It is my understanding that LPs cannot advertise. Would this breach their rules as I want to send HC an email??
Do you have a link saying they've been approved, because I can't seem to find one. HC website only has them as production only.. Though I wouldn't be surprised if HC website is behind.
I have no idea what Prairie is thinking they will accomplish. Under the best circumstances they will illegally sell a product for a few weeks, likely a few days before HC forces them not too. At worst they will have their golden license revoked for not just oils but dried flower as well. I doubt it's a bluff to get HC to approve them faster as any sensible person would realize that's not going to work. Perhaps it's an attempt to inspire confidence in their patient base to prevent them from switching LPs, or maybe it's to bait HC into a lawsuit for some sort of settlement? OR they could just be salty because their monopoly under the MMAR is gone and they are no longer relevant. Either way stinks of desperation.
If they win the $12m that is about $0.14 a share .. Seems like they have a strong suit. Don"t know if Bruce would prefer the cash or the acquisition.

may have been recently updated but peace naturals is the only one allowed production and sale of oils. Maybe Health Canada will wait for markets to close before disclosing any information about publicly listed LP's. Either way it should be very close. BTW I checked out Peace Naturals website, they are selling 30ml for $125, and $240 for higher potency. They say 30mL is 29g of dried cannabis. Can't wait to see what tweed does. Their website, under tweed pantry is asking for user submitted recipes requiring 100mL of oil
One thing to note is that the RCMP doesn't have the political power to make these decisions on their own regarding such a sensitive issue. My guess is that they are cherry picking the serious offenders of the MMAR and have been told to do so from the Minister of Justice. Covering themselves for impending legal hurdles that may lie ahead.
I'm sure a lot of people can grow some bomb weed, but if it doesn't comply with the checks and balances soon to be in place then that weed is going to stay where it is, the grey market.. And as we get more information about what is legal and what isn't that grey market will be squeezed to the black market, which will be a shrinking and soon very small market whose main customer base will be minors who can't purchase mj legally.. I don't know why you are here anyways mikeDD, this is an investing forum.. Which means we (us, not you) are here to share news and speculation. This is nothing personal towards cannabis activists, were mainly here to try and make $$.. It doesn't matter what happens with rec mj or med mj is right or wrong , what matters is what we think is going to be the likely action of the customer and government and how that will effect our market cap.. If you don't like how this is shaping up talk with your vote, that's how our constitutional monarchy works.
Both the union and the private liquor stores are releasing this statement for their self serving own interests. Pure lobbying, that's it. Though I do agree that distributing rec mj through the existing liquor system is the most cost effective, and therefore realistic, method. The main issue I see is that alcohol is a depressant on the nervous system, whereas marijuana is a stimulant. Not too sure if the government will allow you to buy both at the same time. Maybe separate counters? Here in Ontario a bartender is forbidden from making you a jäger bomb because of the depressant/stimulant combination. They must leave the jäger and red bull separate. I know my issue is overly cautious, but I think Canada wants to do it right so there is as little criticism as possible. I think we can all agree that the LPs will be the suppliers of all rec mj, and if dispensaries/compassion clubs want to grow they must be held to the same rigorous standard as the LPs in terms of quality control and site security.. Ohh and have a license too which in effect would make them LPs
I would have to disagree. Yes people are driving under the influence already. But they are doing so illegally. The government is not liable if you are breaking the law. Philpott has already said 'the government will look abroad for best practices, but said she doesn't see a perfect model anywhere.' In my opinion that is because there are no systems that can accurately assess whether someone is under the influence or not, and therefore cannot judge whether someone is partaking in activities that are prohibited while under the influence, of which I would think that driving would be the main one. And yes i believe that even a small problem (though I do consider driving under the influence to be a big problem for the government) will delay legalization as the world is watching and Health Canada will have to do it right. A lot more rides on this decision than a few million in lost tax revenue and taking the supply of drugs away from criminals who have had it for decades. They can wait the year or two it takes to at least see how viable a THC tester could be. This is just my opinion that it would be proper due diligence to follow the THC breathalyzer market in order to accurately assess the legalization timeframe.

If the government legalizes marijuana under ALL conditions it will be liable for gross negligence. For me this is a no brainer, legalization must come with some form of restrictions. There is 100% no way that the government will allow you to smoke up and get behind the wheel. I'm not saying that weed makes you a bad driver, but it effects people differently. If they restrict the use of marijuana influence while driving, I would think they would wait to legalize until they have the technology to do on the spot testing like a breathalyzer.
And.. if this is such a crazy idea why have all the states that have legalized rec mj in the US have some law about driving and smoking?
One thing that I believe needs to be ironed out before legalization can occur is the ability to quickly test if people are under the influence. This would be used in certain places of employment, as well as on the road. Right now I think the only way to test is through blood samples which is costly, timely, and tedious. This for me is the biggest domestic hurdle towards legalization. There is no way they will start selling marijuana to the masses, tell them they can enjoy it but only under certain conditions (ie no driving/ no going to work high etc) and not have the ability to test you on the spot. Just my 2 cents.
Very interesting indeed.. Although ministers in Canada are usually just a mouthpiece talking the party line I would assume they do have some say on the specifics of the party policy. In our case Philpott must go along with the Liberals policy of legalization, but she may have a say in how it is implemented. And her background in AIDs is only good news for the sterile, controlled facilities of the LPs.
Great post Wo. Trading is all about access to information, and speculating on it. At first I considered the sponsorship a non-event.. After reading your post I think there may be something there. CGC wouldnt invest in something they didn't think they could recoup the costs. So why is Tweed there? The most plausible answer is for PR, to build 'street cred' in their domestic market. Another reason would be to export to Jamaican medicinal patients who have the cash. And one of the attractions for travelers to Jamaica is the legal reciprocity it offers for foreign medical marijuana cardholders. The estimated 1.4 million Americans who will travel to Jamaica this year includes over 28,000 eligible to participate in Jamaica’s newly-legal medical cannabis program.. The farthest away possibility is full legalization and the ability to cater to all 1.4m American tourist, plus the millions more with USD and EUR. Im interested to see what becomes of this.
I feel that the biggest priority in the Liberals Pary's mind is to get re-elected in 4 years time. To achieve that they are going to have to offer strategic policy at key times. So to win the vote 4 years does it make sense for them to gwt rolling with legalization immediatly, or to start in 2 years and have it implemented in 3-3.5 years so to ride the green rush to another majority. Legalization is going to happen within thw next 4 years, it's just when is the most polotically advantagous time to do that. LEGALIZATION WILL BE USED AS A PARTY TOOL. Even with only a medical market I think CGC is undervalued. Aphria doubled its number of registered patients (granted that is from 1k - 2.2k) in one quarter. I feel that with Tweeds doctor outreach, Better outposts, and Bedrocans strong medicinal reputation, they must be adding 1.5 - 2k customers a quarter.
I remember reading, or listening, to an interview with Bruce and he said one of CGC obstacles was the lack of debt avaiable to them. Seems no institutions want to offer financing (this was pre liberal majority), so the only way that they can raise capital is through bought deals i.e. dilution. I believe that 2.05 is quite cheap, but that discount represents the percived risk that the financier is undertaking. And when you need money you take the best terms you can get. What they need the money for I'm sure we'll find out soon. On an aside I was reading Aphria's quarterly report (ending Aug 31) and they doubled patient numbers, granted that is only 1k to now 2.2k, but this can only be a good sign for CGC as I'm confident they must have outperformed Aphria in registering patients. I think Brucd is right on the nail when he says 10-11k patients by early 2016. If we can get cash flow positive, uplisted to the TSX, take on debt rather than dilution, and bring tbe big institutional investors on then we will primed to take offm
Thank you
Does anybody know where to find the number of short positions?
Hello all.. Long time follower, first time poster. I have found this board to be very informative and I am grateful to have come across it. Been invested from day one (04/04/14) and have been averaging down ever since. Needless to say that I've been in the red for most of the time. I need to liquidate my investments around the end 2016/early2017 so I am not long (though I would be if I could) but I am also not a day trader. Liberal majority is great news for CGC investors, but I don't think it will be a smooth ride to legalization. We (Canada) are a signatory of three major international drug policy treaties. The UN is due to meet in 2016 to discuss the 'war on drugs'. It is only with the international communities approval, or perhaps a lack of strong disapproval, that I believe the Liberals will move forward with full legalization. I also think it would be very difficult for Trudeau to make a move without consulting Washington. And I doubt any candidate down South will want to touch this topic until their spot in the Oval office is secured in November 2016. So I believe that the UN session and the US elections will influence the timing of legalization in Canada. But... the good news is that Rona Ambrose will be gone and with her a lot of he red (or should I say blue) tape.
