FXEN up 33% so far today.
FX Energy spikes after successful well production test
FX Energy, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company with production in the US and Poland, is trading higher after reporting earlier of a successful production test at Tuchola-3K well.
Up 16% today... I hope this continues.
The spark was their press release which stated that they were testing two wells in Poland which appear promising and look to hold hydrocarbons. The company's plans have never really panned out for European exploration and production, but maybe these latest wells will be a turning point.
Buyers hope for gusher in FX Energy
FXEN soared 27.04 percent yesterday to $3.43 after reporting positive signs in early exploration at a key drilling site in Poland, where the company primarily operates. Shares closed at their 50-day moving for the first time since early March but are still a far cry from their 52-week high of $8.78 reached last September.
Yesterday's long calls , which lock in the price where traders can buy the stock no matter how far it might climb, are looking for shares to rally above $5 in the next five months. That would be a gain of another 50 percent, back to levels not seen since early November. (See our Education section)
Total option volume in the name exceeded 4,900 contracts yesterday, compared with a daily average of just 212 contracts in the last month. Calls outnumbered puts by more than 10 to 1, a reflection of the session's bullish sentiment.
Oshkosh Larger Than S&P 500 Component J.C. Penney
In the latest look at stocks ordered by largest market capitalization, Russell 3000 component Oshkosh OSK +2.59% Corp (NYSE: OSK) was identified as having a larger market cap than the smaller end of the S&P 500, for example J.C. Penney Co., Inc. (NYSE: JCP)
Interesting...
Definitely not bad. I like OSK.
Oshkosh Stock Hits New 52-Week High.... again.
Oshkosh Stock Hits New 52-Week High (OSK)
I hope I live long enough to see it - lol.
An expected $60 million increase in research and development at Garmin Ltd. this year would be the largest ever at the navigational device-maker, an analyst said Monday.
The increase comes as Garmin (Nasdaq: GRMN) is investing in aviation, marine and other segments outside the declining personal navigation device market.
"Garmin has never been squeamish about investing in R&D, but the planned 2013 increase is hefty even by its standards," Yair Reiner of Oppenheimer & Co. said in an analyst note.
On Wednesday, Garmin divulged double-digit decreases in revenue and income in the fourth quarter.
15 inches of new powder this week
I was up in Flagstaff where they got serious snow.
Well... It is NASCAR after all. I'm sure everything is washed down with beer.
NASCAR has outdone CMKX in the party food catagory.
Texas Motor Speedway will be offering Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy. Other edible delights on the cup tour will be Atlanta Motor Speedway's Coke Zero Braised Beef Tacos; Las Vegas Full House Fries; New Hampshire's Famous Lobster Mac & Cheese; Sonoma's Country Fried Wine Dog with Slaw; and... Kentucky's Deep-Fried Bourbon Balls.
Good thing I was just thinking about getting into GRMN. 10% drop today....
Still thinking about it but I am in no hurry.
I have no idea why it is up over 12% today.
No, believe it or not. I still have a few shares but I don't know why.
Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.....
(to borrow from Mark Twain)
I wouldn't put much faith in the author of the review you read. MVO has done much better than that. Yes, that might hold if you kept it until liquidation but why would someone do that?
Mutual funds have been proven to lose money over the long run (for everyone except the fund managers who take your profit) Exception: index funds.
Ten years ago the DOW was below 8000, today it is at 14,000. Long term investors have done just fine particularly if they have been in dividend paying stocks.
Most people don't have Buffet's ability... even when they try to do the same kind of analysis. Probably for the same reason all baseball pitchers can't duplicate Sandy Koufax's ability. It seems to be an innate thing.
As for trading frequently, it seems to be a mindset. Gambling vs investing. Those that paniced and sold a couple of years ago guaranteed they would lose money in the long run.
I have no idea what most other people do when it comes to buying or selling stocks. The market goes up and down but I don't try to gamble on timing the market. It is a fools game for ordinary investors. Heck, I even still own 1 stock that I bought in the late 1970's.
I evaluate each company individually based on what I think their prospects are and normally expect to hold it for decades unless there is something about the base business or management that changes my mind. It has worked for me for the last 40 years so I see no reason to change at this point.
MVO is my idea of a short term hold and I will probably get out of it around 2015 depending on what is going on at that time. I might bail sooner or hold an extra year based on where I think oil prices are going. I have some expert help in this area from a couple of friends who have been in the oil business in Texas for the last 50 years.
It is always a bit of a gamble when trying to predict the future but that is what makes it fun. Looking at the ups and downs of the past is of no use other than to keep one grounded in the possibilities of what might happen in the future. If you buy good companies, the short term ups and downs will have little effect on a long term investing strategy.
Few people buy at the all time highs any more than they buy at the all time lows. What you post is a useless comparison since it doesn't represent real world investments.
If you look at the old posts you will see that I bought this for $19 and change back in August of 2009. So not only have I received over 3 years of really high dividends, the stock has gained 50% in price. Got any bonds that have done that well?
This one has already paid more in dividends than I paid for the stock and it is still cranking it out.
Stick to your bonds...
Not those kind of "real" companies. Always stay away from bankers... they can't be trusted.
She HAS to be on drugs.... No one is that stupid.
A bit of an exaggeration....
I just like real companies with prospects of gaining actual value and returning that value to shareholders. 10 shares of a real company has more of a chance of making me money that 1 million shares of a scam.
The body has been rotting for years, someone finally got around to burying it.
I drop in and out regularly just to keep my finger on the pulse of the investing world. I just don't post very often anymore.
Going..... Going..... Gone
That statement should be put in the iBox of every pinkie...
I ran across an article in Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine. Apparently Garmin wants to provide all the dashboard technology in cars not just GPS. If the OEMs decide to use Garmin's system, then Garmin could be selling millions of them.
"Taking over the entire dashboard of your car might seem like a logical progression from the handheld navigation device — Garmin's longtime staple product — and that's exactly what the so-called K2 intends to do. Featuring a 10-inch center display paired with a 12-inch unit in place of a traditional instrument cluster, the system introduced today at CES is a lot like Cadillac's CUE in principle: it's trying to rid the driver's line of sight of old-school analog gauges that have dominated cars for the better part of the last century.
Besides the expected features of a modern car cockpit like voice recognition, smartphone integration, and Bluetooth, there are a few stand-outs. The K2's center display supports both multitouch and gloved hands (akin to Nokia's Lumia 820 and 920), and the entire thing can be configured through a web portal that the driver accesses from his or her home computer — dozens of settings are probably easier to configure through a website than they are with a fingertip and a fiddly user interface on the road.
Interestingly, the K2 is one of the first products to be announced with TI's next-gen OMAP 5 processor, a competitor to Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragons and Nvidia's Tegra 3 and Tegra 4. You can't simply buy the rig and install it in your car, of course: Garmin's pitching it to automakers, some of which already use the company's technology in production cars (Chrysler and Honda, for example)."
I am expecting good news from the earnings release.
MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rockwell Automation, Inc. (ROK) today announced that the U.S. Navy has awarded the company a $21.7 million contract for programmable automation controllers, variable frequency drives, software, and engineering support services to operate machinery control systems onboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard surface ships. The award enables the Navy and other Department of Defense agencies to acquire engineered systems and services from Rockwell Automation vital to daily and strategic shipboard operations, domestically and globally.
Those fire trucks must be moving....
Oshkosh reported net income of $46.2 million, or $0.51 per share, a year-over-year gain of 18.6 percent, and smashing expectations by nearly 20 cents. Revenues decreased 6.31 percent to $1.76 billion, but still came in slightly ahead of expectations. Consolidated operating income grew to 4.6 percent of sales, or $80.6 million, compared to 4 percent of sales a year ago.
“Our strong first quarter performance and other positive developments, give us confidence to raise our full-year outlook for adjusted diluted earnings per share to a range of $2.80 to $3.05,” Szews added.
Oshkosh’s access equipment segment and its fire and emergency segment performed the strongest last quarter. Access equipment grew its sales 15.1 percent, while fire and emergency grew 20.7 percent. While economic headwinds may have buffeted the company in the past, it’s clear that Oshkosh is seeing tremendous success as a result of recovering conditions combined with leaner, more efficient operations.
Sadly, I didn't.
Still here. It has been cold the past week but the highs are supposed to be back in the 70's starting tomorrow. Chilly nights (by our standards) but it will be nice out in the sun.
I think Lance elbowed himself in the face...
Never met one that wants to go to the USA.
I guess you have never been to Florida.
It may be "reasonable" but it will do nothing to stop the carnage.
You shouldn't leave bombs out of the discussion. They are frequently used to kill people, are easy to make, and portable depending on how big a bomb you want to use.
Don't leave out box cutters which enabled a few people to acquire and convert a useful machine into a big bomb and kill 3000 people 12 years ago. Attempting to control the weapons doesn't stop the problem... you have to stop the people who have the bad intentions. Difficult to do.
