I don't get excited when my stocks split. That's mostly an accounting adjustment. For one thing, I usually hold my stocks for years. Similarly I don't worry about div increases unless they indicate strong, enduring profits, What I love are several YEARS of earnings growth with few downturns. There are just too many ways to juice a dividend for short periods to appeal to newbies and traders. That's done all the time in Pennyland. .
Did I show this article to you? "There Is Nothing Special About Dividends." I'm always leery of flimsy stocks with suspiciously huge payouts, especially one shot dividends, Of course many investors seek regular dividends, but the best way to get them is with a PORTFOLIO of strong, growing diversified payers, without gimmicks. Buffett type investments.

Thanks, GFP. I hadn't noticed the split. Still have all my CTAS.
"Trane Technologies has paid consecutive quarterly cash dividends on its common shares since 1919 and annual dividends since 1910"
I love quality stocks in good sectors.
Damn impressive series of meaningful div increases but TT did have a few payout reductions including a sizable cut around 2009.

I've seen a few Amphicars on the road but they were mostly going to or coming from car (or boat?) shows. This nice amphicar video show the changeover. Seems there are number of steps that must be done perfectly or it sinks! Interesting detail: In water, you steer it (VERY slowly) by turning the front wheels. Terrible car; terrible boat.
Studebaker Avanti. Yes fondly remembered by many, both the originals by Studebaker and the various later copies (Avanti II).
We learn once again that creating a car company is really hard to do.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studebaker_Avanti
~50 years ago there was a service station near my house that specialized in working on Amphicars. It was hilarious seeing several of them parked there at the same time.
??? "In 2015, the Boathouse at Walt Disney World's Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, began offering public Amphicar rides to visitors, charging $125 per ride for groups of up to three.
"Disney heavily re-engineered and enhanced the eight Amphicars of various original colors[27] in its fleet for safety, reliability, and comfort."
I wouldn't put much "stock" in RockAuto's long dropdown list which even lists parts for Amphicars made in the 1960s. "the Amphicar could achieve speeds of 7 knots in the water and 70 mph (110 km/h) on land."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphicar
*Depressing!* Reddits for owners of Fiskers and Lucids (and more) begging for common replacement parts so they can get their once-trendy $100,000 EV back on the road. Usual advice: "Phone every junkyard within 200 miles to see what they might have." There's so much to be said for sticking with common Fords, GM and such.
Note that one can still easily find parts for Model-Ts.

Similar here. Mostly given up on IHUBers. I arrived in Pennyland with the birth of the Web in the 90s and soon encountered rubbish stock boards. My first thought at watching early players blow thru their savings was wondering "what the hell is wrong with these people?" It was like watching repellant creatures from a different universe. Even back that far I generally knew how to invest and almost everyone online was doing it 100% wrong... chasing fads and extreme long shots, ignoring quality. Never diversifying. Then came the crash in 2000 and virtually all of them were predictably cleaned out. Still, many never learned. There were a few suicides; many bankruptcies, divorces
"I sure don't own any non-reporting OTC stocks." With few exceptions my own holdings are even higher quality than standard blue chips. I mod a couple of large cap stock boards such as BRK where I post some things mostly for my later use.
I'm a retired lawyer and business owner with two sons. Have zero interest in gambling.
Thought of you as I watched the original "Stagecoach" on TV a few days ago. It was said to be filmed near Flagstaff which is where you live, I believe. Do you currently own or closely follow any mining stocks? Very rarely I'll glance at Newmont or Barrick which are about my only windows into that sector.
I'm not a trader. I tend to hold the bluest blue chips and index funds which has worked very well over the decades I've been investing in stocks (starting when I was in college). My son is a CPA; quality and audits are vital to me. BTW my son never audited a mining company.
I read a lot about investing -- especially academic papers -- but rarely make changes to my portfolio.
Why invest in a shilled mining stock when anyone can create his own mine in a hour on ebay. Google "Buy gold mining claims." There are many of them for sale and often for peanuts (like $100). I'm sure you can also get a pick and pan and maybe a burro too.
I don't get the attraction of mining... hard, dirty, hot, dangerous work. Buffett has only owned one mining stock (Barrick Gold, and he dumped it quickly around 2020). I think he did make some money on it.
Interested in mining stocks & mining scams? (often the same thing). I spent quite a bit of time yesterday skimming IHUB's useful "Mining Company Research Board" which is ably modded by Gitreal and 1manband.
https://investorshub.advfn.com/Mining-Company-research-board-21803
Yep. "Generally, OTC mining stocks are scams."
I'd never touch a tiny miner. Too many ways to scam when much of the operation is underground, far away, and hard to audit. As in for example, the huge Bre-X caper. That even involved a murdered mining engineer who may have been partially eaten by wild pigs in the Indonesian jungle. Many lessons there. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bre-x.asp
----
I always pay attention when 1manband discusses mining stocks and their special risks.
The largest cap stocks, such as those in the S&P and Dow are outperforming small caps the past two crazy days. This crap makes people nervous.... not at all healthy for markets. Gensler is surely watching this carnival closely and earning his paycheck.
QQQ is still strong with MSFT and AAPL holding up nicely.
This is getting VERY interesting... on many levels.
Meanwhile my BRK is up 1.0% today, very close to all-time high. Several of my other long-held blue chips are trading similarly.
Yikes. off 40% now!
RBTtree
Understand that no "legitimate" business pays shareholders a recurring 40% cash dividend when the prevailing yield for good stocks is about 2% - 4%. Stocks that claim to pay such astronomical dividends are usually loaded with debt and have little ability to endure. They use their showy dividends to attract inexperienced retirees. Some also use risky and complex option strategies. Expect such gimmicky operations to eventually default and probably quickly.
The smart thing is to buy quality blue chips and diversify. BTW, I'm a retired lawyer with decades of investing experience; my son is a CPA. Good luck.

I see that now, but about as strange using optionality.
