"Of particular concern to the Biden administration was a move by Trump's EPA in 2017 to bar anyone who received agency funding for their research from also serving on the panels, a move the Trump administration said could create conflicts of interest. But under President Joe Biden, the EPA said the prohibition had the effect of "significantly restricting member eligibility" and keeping qualified scientists off the panels."

By Saqib Iqbal Ahmed, Reuters - 2:11 AM ET 3/30/2021 Top News
"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Highly leveraged Archegos Capital's downfall is the latest signal of investors' hunger for risk-taking being far from satiated even after a run that has lifted the S&P 500 index around 80% in a year.
The impact of the hedge fund's troubles seems to have been limited so far to a handful of stocks - from ViacomCBS ( VIACA ) and Discovery to the shares of investment banks who dealt with the fund, such as Credit Suisse - without rippling out into broader markets." ....Snip more at link

China tightens rules on rare earths amid global race
By Global Times
Published: Mar 28, 2021 07:
China has moved to further heighten regulation of rare earths production in a new guideline, a move that aims to develop and conserve these resources to meet rising domestic demand and protect the strategic resource amid an intensifying global competition, analysts told the Global Times on Sunday.

"Titanium has better corrosion resistance than stainless steel. It is a better conductor of heat and electricity than Group 3 (Sc group) metals. Titanium metal and alloys of Titanium with Aluminium are used extensively in the aircraft industry in jet and gas turbine engines and in airframes. Supersonic aircraft like Concorde can use Al as the structural skin (m.p. 660oC) by limiting the speed to Mach 2.2 (2.2 times the speed of sound)."
"If and when SST (supersonic transport) planes are made which fly at three times the speed of sound, it is probable that they will be made of Ti (m.p. 1667oC). Ti is also used in marine equipment and in chemical plant. Small amounts of Ti alloyed with steel harden and toughen the steel. World production of Titanium metal is almost 50 000 tonnes per year."

Chico, Doug, Nebraskan, all; Excerpt from the Yahoo article Chico posted.
Yahoo''s article includes Zirconium (Zr) and Hafnium (Hf) amoung their target minerals It indicates SHCMF has processed 2 separation runs (operations) in their pilot plant. (Which refined mixed result they then presumably shipped half way across the continent to Saskatoon for additional processing)

Snip...About Search Minerals Inc.
"Led by a proven management team and board of directors, Search is focused on finding and developing Critical Rare Earths Elements (CREE), Zirconium (Zr) and Hafnium (Hf) resources within the emerging Port Hope Simpson – St. Lewis CREE District of South East Labrador. The Company controls a belt 63 km long and 2 km wide and is road accessible, on tidewater, and located within 3 local communities. Search has completed a preliminary economic assessment report for FOXTROT, and a resource estimate for DEEP FOX. Search is also working on three exploration prospects along the belt which include: FOX MEADOW, SILVER FOX and AWESOME FOX."
"Search has continued to optimize our patented Direct Extraction Process technology with the generous support from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, (“InnovateNL”) and from the Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency (“ACOA”). We have completed two pilot plant operations and produced highly purified mixed rare earth carbonate concentrate and mixed REO concentrate for separation and refining. https://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-hafnium-used-for.html
"Hafnium is combined with other elements to make compounds that can endure extreme temperatures. Fun fact: hafnium carbide (hafnium combined with carbon), has the highest melting point of any two elements (3,890 degrees C, or around 7,000 degrees F); you can see why it is used in places that get really hot!
Combining hafnium with niobium produces a compound that withstands extreme heat, so that compound is seen in rocket engines. Other compounds are used in kilns and furnaces."

Doug: Yes, St Lewis NF is a good deal further from Saskatoon than Northern Saskastawan!
Search's initial separation process will be taking place at their
St Lewis facility. The mixed REEs then be sent to Saskatoon for additional separation.
I believe the intent is to currently provide others the REEs to process, but also to eventually have their own separation facility.

Doug. MLLOF Slide. Medallion has made some changes to their REE Separation process that involves Purdue's Ligand separation processing. (New I think since you last looked at it.)
Seeker; Thanks for posting!
Previous post Appia; I am assuming that the target minerals would be transported by Truck rather Than rail. If rail costs lower considerably.
Doug, Chico; Note that in the presentation in the previous post, the appendix indicates that "Deep Fox Resource Estimate•Up to 15% higher grades than Foxtrot•Surface expression –400m x 30m•Open at depth"
Deep fox deposit is about 3 or 4 kilometers from St Lewis NF, where the planned processing plant will be located. Fox Trot is is about 7-8 kilometers.
Appia's property Alces lake is located near Uranium City approximately 300-400 kilometers (?) from their processing facuility in Saskatoon. How much is a liter of gasoline in Canada and how much will it cost their Trucks to make the round trip from Saskatoon and back?
Gasoline and oil prices are rising, and given the current push to reduce reliance on hydrocarbons, transportation energy prices will continue to increase. This may not be the largest expense item/cost input but is worth considering.

"Vancouver, BC – Medallion Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: MDL; OTCQB: MLLOF; Frankfurt: MRDN) – “Medallion” or the “Company”), reports that since January 1, 2021 the Company has received funds for the exercise of 4,249,014 warrants and options for gross proceeds of approximately $792,000. The warrants and options were priced between $0.09 and $0.40 with an average exercise price of $0.19 per share. Medallion is in a strong position with over $2,000,000 of working capital, with research and engineering programs underway on both the extraction and separation of rare-earth elements (REE).
“We are very pleased and thankful to receive the continuing support of shareholders with the exercise of almost $800,000 in warrants and options,” said Mark Saxon, CEO and President. “With a strong cash position, we can now make commitments to longer term research and corporate development.”
Rare-Earth Element Separation Technology Acquisition – Update
In addition to Medallion’s long-term investment in a proprietary process for the sustainable extraction of REEs from mineral sand monazite, the Company recently acquired an exclusive license to a portfolio of technology, patents, and knowhow for ligand-assisted displacement (LAD) chromatography from Purdue University. The license enables Medallion to deploy the LAD technology in the separation and purification of rare-earth elements for all minerals, mineral processing by-products and mining waste feedstock, excluding coal-sourced materials. Medallion has begun discussions with third parties to sub-license the LAD technology and provide much sought-after and low-environmental impact REE separation.
The LAD system, developed by Linda Wang, PhD, the Purdue Maxine Spencer Nichols Professor of Chemical Engineering, was selected for investment by Medallion following extensive review of the REE separation industry. The green engineering and design principles applied by Dr Wang were recognized through the publication of her research in the Journal Green Chemistry in 2020. LAD chromatography is an aqueous (water based) process that does not depend upon petrochemical industry solvents to function. The technology is built upon a platform that is widely used in the pharmaceuticals industry and provides an environmentally sound method for REE separation with low technology risk and holds tremendous promise.....more at link"

All; Moved from a discussion with Doug on UURAF. Discussion of different separation methods.
(Doug) Have not done much comparison. (Between the separation processes)
A very, very, very simple comparison is that the SX process of Ucore results in individual element
oxides.
From Searchminerals presentation they are producing "Patented Technology” produces highly purified mixed rare earth carbonate concentrate and mixed REO concentrate"
(MB) The take away is that after their processing Search Minerals will need to send their concentrate out for additional separation and refining, UCORE will not?
(This supposes both firms obtain funding and eventually are able to mine their feed stocks.)
I suppose the additional processing is why Search is in collaboration with USA Rare Earth.
(Done for the weekend! Everyone have a good Sunday!)

BigAl, Nebraskan, Chico!
Thanks for stopping by out the new SHCMF board!
It can be difficult to evaluate small thinly traded companies. More eyes and analysis, more informed input should help with that evaluation. (Look at you already Chico!!)
I have a position in Ucore/UURAF and saw that similarly to Ucore, SHCMF has deep water access to the mining areas, a local labor force, and existing infrastructure. (It does NOT have the legal entanglements of Ucore (now resolved) or the permitting problems of NAK.) Like most other Jr. Miners they also run on debt and private placements.
I have a small position which is speculative.
(NioCorp is my core holding, also speculative, but getting less so!)

) As part of Search’s and USA Rare Earth’s development plans, the companies intend to expand the collaboration to include discussions regarding separation, marketing and off-take of Search’s future production. These discussions are in line with Search’s ambition to be an important contributor to the development of a North American Critical Material supply chain and USA Rare Earth’s strategy of Mine-to-Magnet processing.
Search is focused on finding and developing Critical Rare Earths Elements (CREE), Zirconium (Zr) and Hafnium (Hf) resources within the emerging Port Hope Simpson – St. Lewis CREE District of South East Labrador. The Company controls a belt 63 km long and 2 km wide and is road accessible, on tidewater, and located within 3 local communities. Search has completed a 43-101 Preliminary Economic Assessment report for FOXTROT, and a 43-101 resource estimate for DEEP FOX. Search is also working on three significant exploration prospects along the belt which include: FOX MEADOW, SILVER FOX and AWESOME FOX.
USA Rare Earth is building an integrated Mine-to-Magnet supply chain as the development and funding partner of the Round Top Mountain critical minerals and heavy rare earth project in Hudspeth County, West Texas, the owner of sintered rare earth magnet manufacturing equipment previously owned and operated by Hitachi Metals in North Carolina, and the operator of a a rare earth and critical minerals facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, which is commissioning a pilot plant using Continuous Ion Exchange (CIX) extraction, separation and recovery methods using feedstock from Round Top and other non-Chinese sources.
Greg Andrews, President/CEO of Search, stated: “We have already started a strong technical collaboration with USA Rare Earth and are excited to deepen our relationship through this placement. This collaboration is timely as we initiate our discussions with our government funding partners to advance our project with the construction of a demonstration plant in St. Lewis, Labrador. We are excited to work with USA Rare Earth, as they build out their Mine to Magnet strategy.”
Pini Althaus, CEO of USA Rare Earth, said, “The U.S. and Canada continue to work closely under the U.S. – Canada Joint Action Plan on Critical Mineral Collaboration originally launched in January 2020. We are pleased to further strengthen the collaboration between Search and USA Rare Earth, which is very much in accordance with the objective set forth by President Biden in his recent Executive Order. We also see collaboration between companies, particularly on processing and marketing of materials, as an integral part of establishing a secure critical minerals supply chain independent of China.”
Growth in rare earth markets is being driven by rare earth (neo) magnets used in electric motors for electric vehicles and generators in wind turbines. Neo magnets used in these high-temperature applications use alloys including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium. Search has significant resources of neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium at FOXTROT and DEEP FOX, which will be complimentary to the USA Rare Earth Round Top Mountain critical minerals and heavy rare earth project, which has a high concentration of dysprosium and terbium as well as neodymium and praseodymium.

Adv.77 Or perhaps improvements in the extraction method that Scott has been working on have made recovery of these minerals profitable?
I did not see any discuss the hyper-critical CO2 extraction once mentioned and assume that that would be proprietary at this stage.
If REEs are now included in their suite of target mining/processing minerals then the mine and the processing facility would move to a higher priority under President Trump's Defense Minerals Executive Order. (and Reaffirmed by The Biden admin.) And would perhaps qualify for Defense department grant money?
If there is an attempt to bring the share price up to $4.00/share to allow up-listing to Nasdaq/NYSE this would also be more attractive to potential investors.

SNIP.... "The team believes that their method, called lattice confinement fusion, could be a potential new power source for deep space missions. They have published their results in two papers in Physical Review C.
“Lattice confinement” refers to the lattice structure formed by the atoms making up a piece of solid metal. The NASA group used samples of erbium and titanium for their experiments. Under high pressure, a sample was “loaded” with deuterium gas, an isotope of hydrogen with one proton and one neutron. The metal confines the deuterium nuclei, called deuterons, until it’s time for fusion.
“During the loading process, the metal lattice starts breaking apart in order to hold the deuterium gas,” says Theresa Benyo, an analytical physicist and nuclear diagnostics lead on the project. “The result is more like a powder.” At that point, the metal is ready for the next step: overcoming the mutual electrostatic repulsion between the positively-charged deuteron nuclei, the so-called Coulomb barrier.
