First look at nVidia 6100 IGP performance:

FIRST LOOK: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Performance
"The Biostar TForce 6100-939 may not use the top-line 6150/430 combo, but it does extremely well with the 6100/410. The overclocking and memory tweaking options were surprisingly good. The Biostar has enough flexibility to satisfy many users, and it even has the voltage adjustment options that seem to be the last thing to appear on value boards. The TForce 6100 was fast, stable, trouble-free in our brief testing, and extremely flexible - particularly for a micro ATX integrated graphics motherboard. This Biostar would make a great foundation for a cheap system with decent performance, though it is missing the desired options that would make it a good multimedia box.
All-in-all, the NVIDIA 6100 is a decent integrated graphics solution and the new performance leader in AMD integrated graphics. It would have been even better if NVIDIA had made it 4 pixel pipelines instead of two, but the performance and options at the higher end does make the NVIDIA first choice among AMD integrated graphics solutions - at least until the next round from ATI.

chipguy - There was a time when Alpha's trajectory was headed upward, too.
Paul
mmoy - :D your notebook may have arrived!

CJ - I remember when Harris first introduced the frequency-hopping feature in some military radios we used; that was back around 1984.
Paul
Keith - Amen to that!
Joe- Isn't Turbocache their latest memory sharing technology's moniker? Maybe it has to do with that.
Paul

mmoy - Yeah, I'd forgotten that. :)
NaS - And run hotter. eom
muzo - LOL!
Biostar nVidia C51 MB appears.

oc det. - I imagine you're right - it was late when I posted that, fuzzy brain! And if it is, that'd make it a 130nm chip, and even less efficient in comparison to the Turions.
Paul
NaS - ML-42 performance probably better at some things; I'm assuming it's clocked at 2.4GHz since ML-40 is at 2.2GHz. But since it's single channel, the 3700+ will do better at some things where dual channel is important. I imagine the MLs will all use less power.
Paul
gibno1 - Can't say that I know for sure, but my impression has always been that mmoy is a guy.
:) - I imagine they like what they see so far, eh?
Keith - re: egenera/FSC - I wonder what impact Pacifica will have on them and how they like it(since I'm sure they've already had a look at it).
Paul
Windsock - Thanks for the info. eom
Voodoo Epic fanless media center "desktop" http://www.voodoopc.com/system/quotekitchen.aspx?productID=1082
Can be configured with Turion ML-42. :)
Paul
Keith - for the uninformed(me, primarily), what makes FSC/Egenera so compelling to you? I got lost in all the marketing speak.
Paul
wbmw - How can you keep missing the point? He's trying to isolate the CPUs to compare their power usages, not the platforms. In order to do that, you have to make the systems as identical as possible. But I suspect you know that all too well....
Most would concede that, right now at least, Intel has the upper hand when you look at the entire platform. The gap when it comes to the CPU & NB/MC is not as wide as you claim, though.
'nuff said on this apparently futile effort.
Paul
CJ, wbmw - and it implies what could be done with a Turion system if someone would just step out and do it!
Paul
Pete - re:"As to K10's launch date, K8/K9 already is more powerful than Conroe else, Intel would not be touting performance per watt, but performance."
That's not necessarily true. Performance per watt is fast becoming the crucial measure of value and effectiveness in the marketplace, especially the business market. Intel AND AMD would be foolish to ignore that. Let's hope AMD can maintain the superior ratio. :)
Paul
wbmw - I imagine it's an educated guess on CJ's part, based on his experience. The 100mW is purely the power that is radiated by the transmitter; the entire rest of the chip uses the rest of the power to create, convert and manipulate that RF output.
Paul
PS. I see now that he addressed it himself.
wbmw - "pushing 100mW" means transmit power
CJ - One thing you sure won't hear in the news is what my wife heard from a co-worker who was down there with family at the time. She came back and said that despite the fact that the mayor of N.O. ordered municipal employees to stay to help with the evacuation, many just skedaddled without leave (with city vehicles!), others immediately tendered their resignations and left. Just lovely folks, those were.
I was referring to the charges that many(not you) have made that the feds should have taken control earlier, right off the bat even, before the states or any municipality said anything to them about it.
Now, once the states requested aid, the feds ought to have been there in full force, that's for sure. And they ought to have had the logistical chain lined up better, ready and waiting, too.

CJ - Ah, but the difference there was that it was a National Security Emergency. Now they may need to work with the states to adjust how they respond and the authority protocols, but the constitution and the states' sovereignties are crucial.
Paul
Pete - One of the reasons I posted it here was to get the feedback of those more knowledgeable than I.

A not uninteresting Conroe article at digit-life.com.

DARBES - cell phones?
ChrisC_R - Did his straw man put up much of a fight? ;)
Paul
Who knows, Weber may yet wind up being an asset, or at least a partner or ally, for AMD. I doubt we've seen the last of him in any case.
Paul
Jules2 - OT- You're forgetting the small matter(but crucially important) of states' sovereignty. They couldn't just walk all over the states' rights willy-nilly, at least they couldn't constitutionally justify it.
A terrorist attack would have been defined as a matter of national security, which is the federal government's responsibility, over which it has full authority. This situation, while tragic and a national disaster, is not directly a matter of national security. The governors and mayors have a lead role here. And in New Orleans' case the whole municipal structure is corrupt beyond belief, which is the root of the issue there.
Please respond to this on the OT thread if necessary.

From ixse on SI: dual core AMD mobile demo'd
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=21628079
"the actual system was a beige midi-tower box, and inside was a motherboard approaching ATX size - just with SODIMM sockets, a mobile-size CPU and fewer on-board controllers. Nevertheless, it's not difficult to extrapolate from this to a true dual-core mobile CPU notebook next year."
mmoy - If you can get the part # for the Crucial modules, you should be able to contact crucial tech support by e-mail and find out any details you want, they're very helpful and will get back to you within a day or two. Or phone them if you're in a hurry.
