WTF are you talking about? I was responding to a blame Bush post. Why doesn't Clinton take responsibility for his actions? Or lack of action?
You believe whatever you want to believe.
I can't imagine Jimmy Carter ever saying something as bold as "tear down this wall".
Clinton's shed was full?
Let's see,
- futile attempts to combat terrorism
- dismantling of our military
- dismantling of our intelligence services
- giving weapons technology to China
- spoon-feeding N.Korea when Clinton KNEW they were cheating
- overseeing the era of "irrational exhuberance", the biggest economic bubble of all time.
BTW, wanna buy the business.com domain name for a cheap $3 million? Sheeeesh!
How many times do I need to explain it to you Sly?
Means to do us harm? Check.
Desire to do us harm? Check.
Think they can get away with it? Check.
Our national defense shouldn't be decided by an international poll. Appeasement and capitulation doesn't give you "authority to lead" (Jimmy Carter). Steadfastness does (Ronald Reagan).
Appeasement doesn't create long term peace, in creates long term danger.
"The World" is reluctant to support Bush because it isn't in their own best interest. Do you think France wants to lose their gravy train. Do you think the Saudi's want an arab democracy on their border?
You think Bush "is a greater threat to world peace than Saddam"??? Bet you were one of the hysterical lunatics who thought the same of RR. How many millions were liberated???
"Jeff Halper, an Israeli-Jewish friend of Christian Aid, recently explained it to me like this: "If you put your boot on the throat of a man and push on his wind pipe, he will struggle and fight. He will try and hit you and struggle free. But if you let him breathe, he will have no need to strike you."
Wish this was true.
Are you saying the entire world would support military action against the U.S.? I'm saying the entire world, including the appeasers, are growing more and more likely of supporting action against N. Korea.
No, our commander HAS the sharpest tools in the shed. I worry about commanders who think they ARE the sharpest tool in the shed.
"Therefore, if Kim wants to deter the United States from taking such action, or alarm Japan and South Korea into abandoning their historic alliances with America and forcing U.S. troops off their soil, then he must do it now, while the United States is in fact still fully committed in the Persian Gulf against Saddam."
If Kim Jong il wants to deter a U.S. attack, he is certainly going about it in the wrong way. The anti-American sentiment in S. Korea in recent years was Jong il's best hope of getting the U.S. to pull U.S. troops off the peninsula. Instead, he has set off alarm bells in the South. Can you say "mis-calculation".
If Jong il was as shrewd as the writer claims, he would have kept his mouth shut about his nukes program and continued to to foster anti-American sentiment in the South. Instead, he has the entire world actively against him. Shrewd? I'd say stupid.
I'll set up a webpage this weekend and open the poll every Friday through Sunday- keeping a running tally of results. It will be open to anyone who wants to participate.
I feel Larry's pain, I'm going to automate this endevour as much as possible.
NYSE Composite Positive Divergence
Comments? It's one of the few bright spots in my NYSE model.
Hi Larry,
Here's my guess on how the Plus 100 Indicator will perform: The majority of long trades will be successful when the panel is net +, the majority of short trades will be successful when the panel is net -, However, whenever the panel is at an extreme consensus of opinion, the market will be ripe for reversal. I'm curious as to how the Plus 100 will perform - I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with you mlsoft. Powell's judgment has been lacking.
I have another role for the UN:
Bush makes N.Korea an offer - Dismantle your nuclear program, allow UN inspectors (preferably the French, Germans, and Russia headed by Blix) AND we will pull out all 38,000 troops and their families.
This is a win win deal.
I believe he is a man with good intentions, a bit naive maybe. I also believe the day he presented his case of Iraqi concealment to the UN will end up being a turning point in his life. After all of his goodwill, going the extra mile, believing in the good faith of the international community (especially France and Germany), they spat in his face. It was an awaking for him - you could see the anger and disbelief on face.
Wondering how historians will view Powell. He advised Bush to cease fire when the Republican Guard was still in tact. Roll the clock 12 years and he advises GW to go to the UN, goes back again and they spit in his face after failing to enforce 1441. I think Powell in a honorable person, a hero - but he has a blind spot a mile wide. Bet he's not very good at chess.
"who thinks of people, that haven't even been born yet at that, as "cockroaches".
Anyone want to guess sly's stand on abortion?
Gulf War Syndrome? C'mon, you're not saying Saddam had chemical weapons? And how many civilians died as a result of direct U.S. fire?
integivest, we're insane right-wing hitler-like fascist religious fundamentalist zionist murdering extremists.
Thanks for the laughs
I enjoy debating you Sly, the give and take is sometimes fun, but you take all the fun out of it when you say things like Bush is "insane". I know you disagree with his policies, but do you really believe Bush is "insane"? Why say it if you know it isn't true? You can say "his policies are insane" or "he's a friggin idiot", but you make you lose all credibility when you make insane assertions.
Lighten up sylvester.
You need to go back and read the newspapers preceeding the Gulf War - 95% of them were stories of gloom and doom, highlighting how the battle hardened Iraqi army would send our soldiers home in body bags - by the tens of thousands! Remember the predictions of global winter when Saddam set the oil fields on fire? The group think was dead wrong.
We had a period of irrational exhuberance in the late 90s, now it's looking more like the crowd is having mass delusions and hysteria of financial and social collapes.
After the latest Security Counsel fiasco, can you imagine the Israels ever trusting the UN to successfully implement international security measures as part of an Israeli/Palestinian peace agreement? I think not. The French, Germans, Russians, etc. have scuttled any any chances of a middle-east peace agreement for at least a decade.
DENNIS MILLER'S EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON THE MID-EAST CONFLICT
A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don't get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really need. Don't thank me. I'm a giver.
Here we go: the Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word.
Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like "Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention.
Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no "Palestinians" then. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," weeping for their deep bond with their lost "land" and "nation."
So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" any more to describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them what they are: "Other Arabs From The Same General Area Who Are In Deep Denial About Never Being Able To Accomplish Anything In Life And Would Rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death."
I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: "Adjacent Jew-Haters."
Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters want their own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They could've had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially two years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and, worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. That's no fun.
No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel. They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course-that's where the real fun is-but mostly they want Israel. Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel-or "The Zionist Entity" as their textbooks call it-for the last fifty years has allowed the rulers of Arab countries to divert the attention of their own people away from the fact that they're the blue-ribbon most illiterate, poorest, and tribally backward on God's Earth, and if you've ever been around God's Earth, you know that's really saying something. It makes me roll my eyes every time one of our pundits waxes poetic about the great history and culture of the Muslim MidEast. Unless I'm missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to the world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that one.
Chew this around and spit it out: Five hundred million Arabs; five million Jews. Think of all the Arab countries as a football field, and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it. And now these same folks swear that if Israel gives them half of that pack of matches, everyone will be pals. Really? Wow, what neat news.
Hey, but what about the string of wars to obliterate the tiny country and the constant din of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea?
Oh, that? We were just kidding.
My friend Kevin Rooney made a gorgeous point the other day: Just reverse the numbers. Imagine five hundred million Jews and five million Arabs. I was stunned at the simple brilliance of it. Can anyone picture the Jews strapping belts of razor blades and dynamite to themselves? Of course not. Or marshalling every fiber and force at their disposal for generations to drive a tiny Arab state into the sea? Nonsense. Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible. Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their bread with the blood of children? Disgusting. No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace, the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.
Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that with vital operations coming up against Iraq and others, it's in our interest, as Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible, and, after all, that can't be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of supermodels who've just had their drugs taken away. However, in any big-picture strategy, there's always a danger of losing moral weight. We've already lost some. After September 11 our president told us and the world he was going to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them.
Beautiful. Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day) start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint. If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day, we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean and east of the Jordan. (Hey, wait a minute, that's actually not such a bad idea . . . uh, that is, what a horrible thought, yeah, horrible.)
I couldn't have made a better case supporting the fact that the UN is irrelevant.
Hey Mike, thanks for the post
I use a similar approach to Tom. I keep two models, one for the Nasdaq Composite and the other for the NYSE. Right now, both models have 10 indicators each, but there are 3 or 4 more I will probably add soon. Most of my indicators are based on price and breadth, but I've found a couple monetary indicators that have intermediate term significance. From a time management standpoint, I've decided to use StockCharts.com as my one stop data source.
I've been in real time testing since last summer with excellent results.
Fosback and Zweig were my first influences, but I became intrigued at the work of Ned Davis Research. Thankfully, Tim Hayes of NDR spilled his guts regarding the NDR approach in a book called "The Research Driven Investor" published in 2000. I still can't believe they published it. NDR charges $20K minimum for basic services/publications. Most of my indicators are based on concepts from this book.
Check out my Nasdaq model if you're interested.

Name the subject pal.
No, I didn't suggest that. Think sly, think. Where are their markets?
Would you call them "useful idiots"? Stalin would. So would Saddam.
...by hiding our heads in the sand. I don't hear any solutions on this board.
Sure Neville.
Are you a pilot? You ought to talk to one. Running an aircraft intentionally is no different than shooting it down. The intent is the same.
Where does it say in our constitution that we abide by the UN security counsel vote on matters of defense?
No, Neville Chamberlain thought Hitler was a swell guy. Who was he to say....?
"I think there is a difference between shoot it out of the sky as an act of war or just bump wings and it goes down in an accident."
Okay, I think I've heard it all! Guess they would have learned that from the Chinese, eh?
Yeah, they'd run out of fuel before they reached our coast.
My bias is this: No foriegn nation, no international body shall have the right to determine when, if, or how we protect our own national security.
N. Korea wants $$$, not a fight.
Dude, if the N.Koreans overran 38,000 US troops all hell would break loose. China, Russia, nobody would stand in our way.
You don't get it. UN Resolutions are meaningless. We'll have 17, 18, 19 resolutions and nothing will been done. Why do you get such comfort from meaningless pronouncements from this illegitimate, anti-semetic organization?
