John. . .as all LFZA has to do to become one of the biggest gainers in the stock market is to come off of the pink sheets and deliver the goods. The vehicle couldn't be marketed at a better time. It would be an excellent "under cover" vehicle for covert operations overseas. . .and domestically. LFZA should consider contacting the CIA and FBI for potential sale considerations. Also, movie stars, celebrities and other iconoclastic people. Keep us updated. I like LFZA's potential as a company far better than I do many of the other pinks.
USXP ~~ When it takes off, it will rock. USXP needs to market their "mailing of luggage" option. . .in a big way. This could free up waiting periods on airlines (if people would utilize this option) and it would also reduce risk related to luggage concerns of domestic and international travel. They need to consider how to market in this environment. It's important to remain "bold" and keep a positive outlook. USXP damaged their own shareprice by making statements pertaining to travel conditions/airlines. This is not the type of market for cowardice.

See comments on the HRCT ihub thread. I believe we have a golden one, here. China has taken a strong stance in the war against terrorism, as well. Look for accession soon (WTO).
Others ~~ Interesting call on the Anthrax testing company. It will take a while before people figure out the easiest way to control anthrax will be to make pennicillin and other antibiotics with minimal side-effects, otc drugs. The chances of developing the disease via an envelope are smaller than winning a lottery. I'm just hoping that the anthrax attacks are NOT a harbinger of things to come (bubonic plague, small pox, etc.). DO NOT OPEN ANY MAIL THAT DOES NOT HAVE A RETURN MAILING ADDRESS ON IT!!! PREVENTION IS THE WAY TO WIN THIS ANTHRAX SCARE!

Hi Arch. . .
I believe it's going to be a memory many of us wish would have never transpired. I'm still shocked that the degree of evil that transpired on September 11th, actually exists. My heart goes out to everyone who lost family or friends on that tragic day. I believe the terrorists SEVERELY underestimated America's response to their query. We also recently gained support from the Pacific Rim countries. Evil will NOT prevail.

Hi Jm. . .
I got your messages. Still trying to get caught up after being gone for over a week (and having a GREAT time). At any rate, I think Iraq is next on the hit list. The war on terrorism appears to be ready to finish off on stage one and move towards the next objective. Sharp words by President Bush last Thursday against Saddam Hussain. . .along with Senate support for movement on Iraq (since they appear to be harboring and supporting terror movements, as well) should escalate. Syria and Iran will probably "rethink" their support for terrorist groups after a major offensive against terrorist cells in Iraq. For now, it appears to be a "rubble attack" in Afghanistan.
Stocks: JANX might pull through. HRCT appears to have an upward trend out of the 18 cent region. I've been stocking up on that one. Look for WTO news in November. The latest news on HRCT is very promising. However, HRCT needs to deliver the "spoken dividends" ASAP. There will be an exile of long-term shareholders if HRCT doesn't deliver prior to the end of the year. The clock is ticking.
God Bless America. . .watch the banking issues, today.

Hi Arch,
Thanks for that article. I graduated in a field of the medical sciences, so the threat of biological warfare strikes me as concerning, to say the least. Nonetheless, I fail to give bin Laden's network system the credibility to adequately deploy the particular viruses and bacterium, of concern. One thing America cannot do at present. . .is to panick, and continuing to educate the very people who are out to attack U.S. citizens (via CNN and other news media that interview doctors and specialists in the field of biological warfare) is nonsensical. That's correct, you all heard me correctly. We cannot continue to educate these inidividuals with irrational beliefs.
How are we educating them? Well, for one thing, those involved with bin Laden's network are watching CNN and other news media. . .day and night. They are hunting for what America most fears. . .and threatening us with it. They are also listening to specialists in the field that actually INFORM them of how to spread these potent killers. For instance, I heard an interview on my way back from America from a specialist on Anthrax. He mentioned how Anthrax is "ineffective" unless it is adequately dried and delivered in such a way that it remains "airborne." Now that, is stupid to say in front of the public at large. Consider the criminal mind, for just one second. . .
We have information from the FBI that as many as 200 more terrorists involved in the September 11th attacks on America, still reside in America. Now, if they are part of any "second wave" attack, they are studying the situation. . .and making sure their second attack will be more devastating than the first attack. In this manner, they can pulverize the belief of Americans. . .in America (think like a criminal in order to understand them. . .and yes, I have studied criminal law). Okay, so. . .those still remaining in America know they have to make sure Anthrax is adequately dried. . .and airborne, for maximum effectiveness. Get my drift? As all they need to do if the media continues on their present course. . .is to listen to CNN to find out:
1: What America most fears. . .
2: How to deploy it. . .
3: Our potential weakness's in destroying their plot. . .
Can you all see what I'm saying? Freedom of the press (although I very much support it) could actually educate those that are out to plan a secondary attack against the U.S. Anyone have a solution for that one. . .that won't violate The Constitution/Civil Rights? I'm all ears.
Peace. . .

Hello people. . .just returned from getting married in Jamaica. The market appears to have made a good comeback in the past week. I must admit, the tourism/travel sector appears to be getting hammered (not many Americans in Jamaica!). I hope, for the travel industry's sake, that people begin travelling again (via planes) if only in the boundaries of the U.S. The trip to Jamaica was fun, but I . . .for one, do not plan on travelling overseas until improvements are made in the screening procedures. It was a joke coming back from Jamaica. However, once we hit Atlanta. . .things appeared to be rolling more smoothly.

Arch. . .he may be a good friend of yours, and that's fine with me. A good many people have different perspectives. Perhaps they can handle their perspectives a little better by coming up with their own words to their own thoughts? The dude appears to be in "attack mode" on some religious drum. I consider myself a deist. So I just sit back and let all these religious fanatics beat their drums against one another, and wonder why they can't figure it out. Our basic molecular structure is all the same. "Belief systems" are the only thing that differentiate us. Look at your friend's last post. He continues to try and create a battle out of something he clearly cannot win. I wish him well in life. Because obviously. . .his shot at ridding the world of evil appears to take a stance against groups of people. . .rather than the roots of the cause. And. . .he still gets drawn into conversation. . .by insisting to bring others into his debate. ??? What's up with the dude? Is he trying to prove something? I believe Americans and the rest of the freedom and peace seeking world need to stand up for peace. They need not attack other individuals or groups, beliefs. When someone takes a hard-line stance that professes to support their belief system. . .that is fine. However, there is a difference between passion and ignorance. And yes. . .
I have read the Koran (yes, that is how it is spelled in America), studied Buddhism, read the Bible and the Book of Morman. As a child (living in Utah) I was not permitted to participate in certain sports because I was a Catholic. I was encouraged by the Mormons to read their prophet's book (Joseph Smith). . .the Book of Mormon. I thought it was interesting, but I did not buy into their belief. I believe there are many great Islamic people and Muslims. Honest-to-God good-hearted human beings stem from every religious belief and any other system based on morality. There is also "evil" within all of the ranks. I also believe that the intellectuals that we have put into office (throughout the world) are competent enough to make appropriate decisions in order that innocent lives are not taken during any retaliation. Even if there are only a hundred people in Afghanistan that stand for "freedom" or "peace," their souls should be spared. Now. . .everyone within their right mind would agree that the terrorists need to be weeded out. And nobody would argue the point that "terror" can be construed to mean many things. However. . .I just don't enjoy the way that your friend poses his hypothesis and states his/her beliefs. Therefore. . .I exercise the right not to listen to their rhetoric. And by all means. . .

NATO: U.S. Proves bin Laden Link
By PAUL GEITNER
.c The Associated Press
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The United States gave its NATO allies clear evidence Tuesday that ``conclusively'' links Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida network to the Sept. 11 terror attacks, NATO's secretary-general said.
In response, the alliance dropped the only condition on invoking Article 5 of its charter, which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all, Secretary-General Lord Robertson said.
``We don't intend at the moment to discuss how NATO will translate this decision into operational action,'' Robertson said. ``The United States are still developing their thinking and they will come back to the alliance in due course when that thinking is crystallized.''
NATO allies last month agreed to invoke Article 5 if Washington could show that the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were directed from abroad.
Tuesday's classified briefing had demonstrated that, and Article 5 was now ``fully invoked,'' Robertson said.
NATO officials said that means each member state is morally bound to help the United States if asked.
``The United States of America can rely on the full support of its 18 NATO allies in the campaign against international terrorism,'' Robertson said.
Robertson refused to elaborate on the ``additional information'' provided by U.S. Ambassador at Large Francis X. Taylor, who is President Bush's coordinator for counterterrorism.
The NATO secretary-general said it must remain secret for now ``for obvious reasons.''
He said the briefing covered the attacks themselves, the results of the investigation so far, what is known about bin Laden and al-Qaida, ``their involvement in the attacks and in previous terrorist activity, and the links between al-Qaida and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.''
The United States was also briefing its allies directly in their capitals, Robertson said. In Pakistan, which neighbors Afghanistan and has promised to cooperate with the United States against bin Laden, the U.S. ambassador briefed the president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, on the status of the U.S. investigation of bin Laden.
In the Belgian capital, where the NATO session was held, Russian President Vladimir Putin was meeting EU leaders Tuesday, and was to see Robertson on Wednesday. Putin has thrown his support behind the American-led anti-terrorist coalition, drawing his country into closer cooperation with the West.
``The facts are clear and compelling,'' Robertson said of the U.S. briefing. ``The information presented points conclusively to an al-Qaida role.''
``We know that the individuals who carried out these attacks were part of the worldwide terrorist network al-Qaida headed by Osama bin Laden and his key lieutenants and protected by the Taliban,'' he said. ``It is clear that all roads lead to al-Qaida and pinpoint Osama bin Laden as having been involved in it.''
Robertson's comments came ahead of a speech by British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who warned Afghanistan's Taliban rulers that they must ``surrender terrorists or surrender power.''
The Taliban, an Islamic militia that controls the majority of Afghanistan, said Sunday they know where bin Laden is, and that he is under their control. Previously, they had said they didn't know the Saudi millionaire's location, but they could deliver messages to him.

Paule. . .That is not at all true. You have absolutely no evidence to verify your documentation on Muslims. I am not a Muslim. . .was baptized Catholic. . .but think all religions are a little off-based. I prefer not to get in on a religious debate because they all stem from fanatics. Like I said, get off your soapbox and start focusing on the real issue. If you believe you can write a law to define your own source of terrorism. . .do it. I did not say I supported the slaughter of any race or creed. . .but you argue I am somehow in support of this. Grow up. I believe the situation that transpired in the United States is being handled appropriately. I do not, however, believe that someone needs to sit on some message board and try to declare themselves a "know it all" as they spout out their beliefs. Mine certainly need challenging, but not by those with closed minds. If you wish to debate the issue of religious belief. . .go read Karen Armstrong's book, "The History of God." I think it's probably time people stopped worrying about Muslims and started focusing on the the "terrorist" issue. Did anyone ever read the story of Malcolm X? Muslims are not in America to topple buildings like the WTC. That has NOTHING to do with the Muslim belief (and I am Catholic, not Muslim). People are targeting individuals (ALL INDIVIDUALS) of another creed. That, is stupid. Osama bin Laden and his crusaders are nothing but a branch off of the beliefs of Islam. . .that has gone awry. We're all pissed off that a bunch of rubble bound camel jockeys toppled the pride of America. . .but we need to face it, we weren't ready for the attack. Why? Because we are a democracy. . .and we believe in "freedom." Only in the past month have Americans been united and willing to give up some of those freedoms. Now, we see how terrorists (and that does not mean MUSLIMs!) came to America. . .were educated by American institutions. . .and toppled American pride. Or did they? Perhaps we can all take a look in the mirror and see if we've weakened. But enough of this "Muslim" crap. Anyone who knows anything about the Muslim faith understand Muslims (like Catholics, Mormons, Christians, Baptists. ..and all other faiths!) would have never condoned what took place in America. Flat out. . .it is evil. It is the evil on our world that created this destruction. Stop blaming people of faith and start focusing on the real issues. TERRORISM!

Goldengate, I believe you are correct. I don't believe there is any way that HRCT can complete 4 spin-offs prior to year's end. We'll see, perhaps we are wrong. I just hate these timelines that keep coming out to the public. It's not like the OTC BB market doesn't have enough to overcome. . .but when companies make statements of predicted achievement and miss their targets. . .it's hasta-la-vista! I'm sure there are many OTC BB companies that are not going to survive. The only reason I believe HRCT will, is because they are in China at what appears to be the "right time." Who knows? I sure miss the days when everyone's attitude was robust along with the market. Those terrorists really knew when to hit the United States. And I say to myself, what a wonderful world.

Joe. . .
Again, good rationale. I have been thinking along the same lines. In particular. . .why would America continue to forewarn bin Laden and the Taliban of a forthcoming attack? Granted. . .as you mentioned, bin Laden may be playing a role elsewhere with the development of his network of terror, but I'm not so sure he was the mastermind behind the attacks on the WTC. However, I'd be willing to bet there are strong ties to an Iraqian network. It's going to be tough to rid the world of this type of networking. Particularly since there are clearly no individual countries responsible for the activity (all on their own). It's going to be along battle. Many people fail to realize the "Cold War" lasted over 50 years. This "War Against Terrorism" will probably last for eternity. There's a fine line between terrorism and other politically motivated acts of aggression. I suppose in the very near future, there will be laws to interpret and define such acts (as in Ireland). If only all nations and creeds could focus on "peace". Perhaps the United States could do a better job of "listening" to other nations when concerns arise. Something has stirred this anger against our nation. Someone is leading the cause. Someone is supporting the cause. There are "leaders" within the networking and "ring" of individuals that are stirring these crazies to die and take lives. I'm confident they will be found. But how does the "belief system" of this incredibly evil network. . .get wiped away from the face of the earth? Answer ~~ more than likely, it doesn't. Evil forces have been in existance for a good long time. They will remain (unfortunately), and innocent lives will continue to be taken. It would be nice, however, to have a couple of examples to toss to the world in leiu of the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon (and the innocent lives of those in the airliners!). There are very evil people in this world. I wish . . .somehow, they could all just die. But that's not going to happen anytime soon.
Peace. . .and be alert. That is how our nation will defend itself against terrorism. And that is how we will beat it (a new level of awareness from around the globe). Catch them before they do their acts of ultimate evil. Don't chase them after they do them.
Keep the Faith!
M&M Man
Hi Joe. . .
Your response is one of "common sense." I beieve you are pretty much right on the money. Although, I am pretty concerned with the fact that a bunch of camel riders found their way into our airplanes. . .and education system. . .in order to destroy what we stand for. This is indeed, a high debate on ethics and morals. Why can't the opposition in Ireland be considered, "terrorists?" We'll see. I just seem to think that we're going to open a big can of worms with this one. And the terrorists probably knew it would happen. In this case, I hope I'm wrong. But I do enjoy the idea and reality behind the unity of the world. All "civil" countries are mad as hell at what has taken place. As all I can say is, "Goodbye terrorism." Although it took great tragedy to bring justice to the face of the world. . .law abiding citizens around the globe have reached their pinnacle with idiots and CJs. I hope Osama bin Laden is beheaded in front of the world.

Authorities Detain Nearly 500
By PETE YOST
.c The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Authorities investigating the terrorist attacks have arrested or detained more than 480 people, Attorney General John Ashcroft said Friday.
Ashcroft disclosed the numbers after releasing a document left behind by the hijackers. He said it provided ``a shocking and disturbing view into the mindsets'' of those responsible.
FBI Director Robert Mueller made clear the investigation is focusing on more than one group associated with Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network. ``One should not focus on one individual, but on a series of networks across the world,'' he said.
Ashcroft added, ``We have not ruled out the participation of other individuals and other organizations in this attack.''
Mueller said investigators have had substantial cooperation from other countries in tracking the movements of the hijackers. He said authorities have began to put together a picture of how the attacks were planned and completed but ``the picture is nowhere near fully painted.''
Ashcroft said the document left behind by the hijackers contained instructions for before and during the flights as well as numerous religious references.
He said those references were ``a stark reminder of how these hijackers grossly perverted the Islamic faith to justify their terroristic acts.''
The FBI released photographs of the 19 suspected hijackers on Thursday, a move that was designed to bring in information from people who may have seen the men before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Ashcroft called the release of the photos part of a ``national neighborhood watch,'' while Mueller acknowledged that questions remained about whether an accompanying list contained the true names of the 19.
``What we are currently doing is determining whether, when these individuals came to the United States, these were their real names or they changed their names for use with false identification in the United States,'' Mueller said.
The FBI director said there was evidence that one or more of the hijackers had had contacts with al-Qaida, the network associated with Osama bin Laden, the exiled Saudi millionaire who is the Bush administration's top suspect in the attacks.
At a court hearing Friday in London, prosecutors said an Algerian pilot instructed four of the hijackers who crashed the plane into the Pentagon. The prosecution said Lotfi Raissi, 27, qualified in the United States as a pilot in 1997, attending the same Arizona flight school as four of the hijackers involved in the attacks Sept. 11.
``He was the lead instructor of four of the pilots that were responsible for the hijackings,'' prosecutor Arvinda Sambir told the court.
Richard Egan, Raissi's defense lawyer, said his client ``adamantly denies any involvement in the recent appalling tragedies.'' Raissi is wanted in the United States on charges of giving false information in connection with his application for a pilot's license.
In Washington, the Justice Department released an arrest warrant for Raissi and a criminal complaint from Arizona charging him with two counts of making false statements to the Federal Aviation Administration about his medical condition and arrest record. The compliant made no mention of any connection between Raissi and the hijackers.
Two Middle Eastern men who fraudulently obtained licenses to drive trucks hauling hazardous materials were arrested, the Justice Department said. Fadhil Al-Khaledy was arrested Thursday in Chicago and Raad Al-Malfky was arrested in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Both obtained the licenses through an alleged scam in Pennsylvania that involved at least 20 Middle Eastern men who got licenses. All have been arrested; none has been linked to the hijackings. The arrests came amid concerns about possible terrorist attacks involving chemical or biological weapons.
A Middle Easterner believed to be the middleman in the scheme was also captured. Elmeliani Benmoumen helped the others illegally obtain the licenses, according to the FBI. Benmoumen denied being involved in the scheme.
In other developments:
A grand jury in Boston subpoenaed student records from the University of Rhode Island. It was among several universities which have received subpoenas from grand juries in the investigation. ``Our belief is it's a general request,'' University of Rhode Island spokeswoman Linda Acciardo said. ``We have no reason to believe it's connected to the individuals who hijacked the planes.'' The university said it learned the subpoena was related to the attacks after it contacted the FBI in Boston to confirm it.
Evidence surfaced in Las Vegas that at least five of the hijackers had stayed in the casino town between May and August, said a source who insisted on anonymity.
Officials said the government's manhunt has thwarted two terrorist attacks since Sept. 11 and gathered evidence suggesting collaborators were in various stages of planning on several other plots to harm U.S. interests here and abroad.
Evidence seized in raids in the United States and in Europe included plans or materials for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Paris and an attack with explosives on a military site in Brussels, Belgium, the officials said.
The FBI's toll-free hot line for people with information about the 19 hijackers is 1-866-483-5137. A form also is available on the Internet at http://www.ifccfbi.gov.

Holy War Has Funds, Bin Laden Says
.c The Associated Press
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Osama bin Laden, the top suspect in the Sept. 11 terror attacks, says Washington's move to freeze assets of groups linked to his al-Qaida movement will not curtail his activities, a newspaper reported Friday.
The report appeared in the Urdu-language Ummat, which is published in Karachi. The newspaper said it had submitted questions for bin Laden to Taliban officials and had received written replies. Efforts to contact Taliban officials to confirm were unsuccessful.
``Freezing of the assets or accounts of al-Qaida or any other jihad (holy war) organization won't make any difference,'' Ummat quoted bin Laden as saying.
``By the grace of God, al-Qaida has got three alternate financial systems, which are separate and independent. This system is run by people who love jihad, and if the whole world - including the United States - tries to remove them, they won't succeed,'' he was quoted as saying. ``These people are not a few hundred. They are in the thousands and hundreds of thousands.
President Bush on Monday ordered a freeze on the assets of 27 people and organizations with suspected links to terrorism, including bin Laden and al-Qaida.
In the interview, bin Laden said his vast network of thousands of sympathizers would not be affected by Bush's move because its members include financial experts who know all the loopholes in the global financial system.
Bin Laden - a millionaire Saudi exile living in Afghanistan since 1996 - repeated denials that he had been behind the Sept. 11 attacks against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The Bush administration has demanded the Taliban hand him over to the United States, or else face retribution.
``I want to clarify that my job is to inspire Muslims and to tell them what is in their interests and what is bad, what Islam says and what anti-Islamic forces say,'' bin Laden was also quoted as saying. ``Al-Qaida was established for jihad against those infidel countries that are attacking Muslims. Jihad is the sixth most important principle of Islam. Every enemy of Islam is afraid of jihad.''
Bin Laden claimed the Western media were spreading propaganda against him. ``They are saying such absurd things about us that we wonder (whether) they have become the victim of their own propaganda and began to fear it,'' he said.
Islam does not permit the killing of innocent women, children or men, even during war, he said. ``I have said this before - that I have no connection with the Sept. 11 attacks in America ... nor any information about it.''
The newspaper has not been a conduit for bin Laden statements in the past.

OT ~~ Nasdaq drops rule delisting shares under $1
By Matt Krantz, USA TODAY
Nasdaq's growing pile of penny stocks just got a second chance.
Thursday, the Nasdaq Stock Market said the destruction of tech stocks has forced it to temporarily suspend its 4-year-old rule requiring stocks to remain above $1 to be part of the exchange.
It's the most startling and symbolic sign yet of how badly beaten the Nasdaq, which just 2 years ago appeared to be overtaking the New York Stock Exchange for investor attention, has become.
The highflying tech stocks that led the Nasdaq in 1999 and the beginning of 2000 now "are barely alive," says Tony Cecin, head of stock trading at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray.
Nasdaq market officials said the exchange is halting the rule until Jan. 2, 2002, to protect stocks irrationally punished after the Sept. 11 attacks. But the decision has Cecin and others wondering if the Nasdaq is taking a step back to its old reputation of being a haven of low-quality names. Nasdaq declined to say how many stocks are trading under $1. But analysts estimate that number to be around 13% of Nasdaq's stocks.
Nasdaq has many troubled stocks at a time when investors are seeking quality, a trend that was clear again Thursday. The Dow Jones industrials gained 114 points to 8681, while the Nasdaq composite lost 3 points to 1461 and nearly hit a bear market low. And while the Dow includes two Nasdaq stocks — Microsoft and Intel — it is down only 20% this year, while the Nasdaq is down 41%.
It's not just the Nasdaq upstarts that are in trouble. Six of the banner Nasdaq 100 index stocks are below $1.
Firms escaping delistment, for now:
• LivePerson, an online customer support firm whose stock closed Thursday at 11 cents, was scheduled to discuss delistment with the Nasdaq this week. The meeting was canceled. "I always thought the rule was a strange rule," says LivePerson CEO Robert LoCascio.
• Autobytel, the online car buying service, had traded below $1 for six sessions before the rule change. Thursday, it was at 72 cents. "For a company to be delisted because it's trading for less than $1 may not make sense," says Chief Financial Officer Hoshi Printer, adding Autobytel will be profitable in the fourth quarter.
• Tact, a tech-services firm, was to defend itself against delistment at an Oct. 18 meeting with Nasdaq. That has been tabled, CFO Richard Falcone says. Tact's Thursday close: 45 cents.
Big-name Nasdaq companies, such as Microsoft and Intel, might not want to be associated with a market housing so many struggling firms, says George Mairs, CEO of mutual fund company Mairs and Power.
But others insist that the predicament has more to do with market conditions than the Nasdaq. "In a bear market, we see rules like these get stretched," says Hugh Johnson, strategist at First Albany.

Probably not a good time to be buying too many OTC BB stocks, but then again. . .what better time? The reason I continue to like HRCT is because it has been the "winningest" stock I've ever owned. The partners and subdivisions of the organization are located in China. Very fertile ground for continued growth in the tech industry. High risk, no doubt. Now those of us who own the shares will just have to see if HRCT can live up to their own expectations. It could take a while. But then again, so will this battle against terrorists.

Ahh. . .Georgia. . .I see it from a different light, now. I guess I'm still pissed off over this crazy event of being threatened by upcoming terrorists. I do not support a nuclear attack on sand-dunes and camels. That is all it would be if we took aggressive action against Afghanistan. Why send a two-million dollar Tomahawk missle into a 40 dollar tend and a flock of brain-washed poor people? The "surgical removal" aspect seems to be the best. I even believe that we should set up emergency shelters for the women and children of Afghanistan (perhaps across the border in Pakistan) which will show the Middle East that we are not opposed to their "beliefs" or "religions". What we are opposed to is "terrorism". Osama bin Laden is doing nothing but influencing the uneducated via his leadership skills and his distorted way of thought.
Okay. . .got some work to do. Be careful out there. Some of these latest articles aren't too promising. However, I do not see America as being willing to fold to a bunch of distorted camel jockies. Even if they did get educated in America.

Trainees eager to join 'jihad' against America
By Jack Kelley, USA TODAY
PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Morning at the Dar-ul-Uloom
Haqquania madrassa, or religious school, begins
with a prayer and a defiant chant. "Oh, Allah,
defeat the enemies of Muslims and make Islam and
the Taliban victorious over the Americans in
Afghanistan," the 3,500 students say in unison in
the school's courtyard. Then, they break into a
chorus of "Jihad! Jihad!" or "Holy war! Holy war!"
Their words bring a smile to the face of the
school's chancellor, Maulana Sami ul-Haq. "Osama
and the Taliban would be proud," he says. Ten of
the Taliban's 12 senior leaders studied here. Their
pictures hang on the walls of the courtyard, next
to that of Osama bin Laden.
Even Mullah Mohammed Omar, the Taliban's leader,
attended the school briefly before he left in the
1980s to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.
"They are all our inspiration," Haq says. "And
soon, we'll be fighting alongside them."
Tens of thousands of students at Pakistan's 6,000
militant Muslim madrassas say they plan to go to
Afghanistan to fight U.S. soldiers, attack bases in
Pakistan that may host American forces, or conduct
suicide bomb attacks against U.S. targets if
President Bush launches military action against bin
Laden and the ruling Taliban militia in
Afghanistan.
Bush has named bin Laden the prime suspect in the
attacks in the USA and is expected by many here to
be preparing retaliatory strikes at him and the
Taliban, which has been harboring him for years.
But the madrassa students say any U.S.-led strikes
won't stop the terrorism.
"We are all Osama bin Ladens," says Abdullah Shah,
35, senior teacher at Dar-ul-Alloon Sarhad, a
nearby madrassa. "Getting rid of one Osama won't
solve your problems. Your trouble is just
beginning."
Already, more than 2,000 students, some carrying
the Koran, Islam's holy book, and AK-47 assault
rifles, have crossed into Afghanistan within the
last week, Pakistani officials say.
More are on their way. Hundreds of others, who have
been fighting Indian forces, are withdrawing from
the Pakistani side of the disputed Himalayan region
of Kashmir. They also are heading for Afghanistan,
Indian officials say.
Other madrassas, such as Haqquania here, are
planning to shut down temporarily next week to
allow their students to join the Taliban. Those who
do go are being offered "extra credit."
"We give them the knowledge, the Taliban gives them
the guns," Haq says. "I, and all my students, will
support the Taliban and Osama at all costs. They
are the only ones implementing true Islam."
Haq is believed to be one of bin Laden's closest
friends in Pakistan, and Pakistani officials say he
is a Taliban insider. He keeps three pictures atop
his desk, and one in his wallet, all of which show
him standing arm-in-arm with bin Laden. He says he
uses a red "hotline" phone on his desk to call
Taliban officials in the Afghan cities of Kabul and
Kandahar.
"Osama and the Taliban are alive and well, thanks
to God," Haq says.
He refuses to say when he last spoke with bin Laden
and denies knowing where he is hiding. "Osama and
the Taliban will not go lightly. They are preparing
for a fight. That's where we come in."
USA TODAY was invited to spend a day at two of
Pakistan's madrassas, one of them militant and the
other moderate. The Islamic clerics who run the
schools say they want to explain their anger to
Americans before their jihad against the United
States begins.
There are an estimated 40,000 madrassas in
Pakistan, of which the government says 6,000 are
militant. The madrassas, financed by wealthy
businessmen in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other
countries, offer the best chance for an education
for Pakistan's poor. Most government-run schools
are overcrowded and underfunded and require
students to pay for some costs. The madrassas do
not charge tuition.
The students, most of whom are from Pakistan and
Afghanistan, spend up to 6 hours a day memorizing
the Koran. Then, they spend 2-4 hours listening to
lectures about the Koran and the Islamic prophet
Mohammed. Their curriculum includes some
mathematics and geography but little else. Critics
say the schools are teaching intolerance.
"These schools are providing an education which is
basically unchanged from the 11th century," says
Islamic analyst Pervez Hoodboy. He says they
produce "a student with a particular mindset, one
who does not question and who can be easily
motivated into fighting to the death."
Pakistani officials, while insisting that militant
Muslims represent only 15% of Pakistan's 140
million people, fear that the actions of the
madrassa students could destabilize the government,
which is led by a man who took power in a military
coup 2 years ago. Fearing an uprising mobilized by
the madrassas, the government has not cracked down
on the schools.
"The biggest danger for Pakistan is from young,
disillusioned and angry Pakistanis, many of them
poor and jobless, who may be driven to join the
radicals in a jihad," says former Pakistani army
chief of staff Mirza Aslam Baig. "Some of the
madrassas are breeding grounds for this
radicalism."
Lately, lectures on the Koran at Haqquania and the
moderate Dar-ul-Alloon Sarhad madrassa have given
way to heated discussions about impending U.S.
military action. Students and faculty at the
madrassas demand that the United States make public
the evidence it has proving bin Laden's involvement
in the terrorist attacks earlier this month in the
USA.
"How can you convict someone without presenting
evidence or witnesses against the alleged culprit?"
asks Khalid Ahmad Banouri, chancellor at
Dar-ul-Alloon Sarhad. Surrounded by more than a
dozen other Muslim clerics, he sits on a large
Oriental carpet in a courtyard of the school. "It
makes many Muslims believe that, despite what
President Bush says, this attack will be on Muslims
and Islam itself."
The expected assault on Afghanistan is just the
latest act by the United States, Banouri says. He
says America has implemented a foreign policy based
on hypocrisy and self-serving interests:
* He ridicules U.S. support for Israel, which he
accuses of brutalizing Palestinians and illegally
occupying the West Bank of the Jordan River.
* He blasts U.S.-backed economic sanctions on Iraq,
which he says are causing thousands of Iraqi women
and children to starve to death.
* He and others here also are furious that
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has agreed to
share intelligence on the whereabouts of bin Laden.
And they are angry that Musharraf will allow U.S.
fighters to fly through Pakistani airspace on their
way to attack targets in Afghanistan.
At the Haqquania madrassa, a student who says he
has just attended one of bin Laden's training camps
pulls out a training manual, called the
"encyclopedia," which U.S. officials say is used at
the camps in Afghanistan. "Now listen, American,
and listen well," says Hussain Zaeef, 21. He reads
from Page 12 of the manual: " 'Bomb their embassies
and vital economic centers.' That's what I will do
to you and your country. I will get your children.
I will get their playgrounds. I will get their
schools, too. I will get all of you."
Tempers then flare. Several students begin yelling
at once, pointing their fingers and gesturing
wildly.
One yells out the name of Mohammed Atta, an alleged
bin Laden associate believed to have hijacked one
of the two jets that crashed into the World Trade
Center. Another says he will "kill more than Atta."
A third student then unfolds a picture of the Sears
Tower in Chicago. "This one is mine," he says.

Trail of suspicious trades widens
Watchdogs probe unusually high volumes
of pre-attack trades on hotel, airlines stocks
By Brock N. Meeks <mailto:brock.meeks@msnbc.com>
MSNBC
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 - More evidence of suspicious options trading in
the airline and hotel sectors prior to the Sept. 11 attacks has emerged
in a report from an options analysis newsletter. The Chicago Board
Options Exchange is investigating the unusual activity, a CBOE
spokesperson confirmed.
THE SECURITIES and Exchange Commission and New York Stock
Exchange are also investigating the suspicious trading activity,
according to sources familiar with those investigations. The SEC and
NYSE have declined to confirm or deny any such investigations.
"We are vigorously pursuing all credible leads, but at this time
we have drawn no conclusions," the SEC said in a statement last week.
"We are working closely with other federal law enforcement authorities,
as well as the self-regulatory organizations and our foreign regulatory
counterparts, to provide all possible assistance."
Short selling and activity in so-called "put" options on airlines
and hotel stocks soared to "levels we have not seen in years," according
to Phil Erlanger, a former senior technical analyst at Fidelity
Investments.
"Puts" are essentially bets that a particular stock or other
security is going to fall in value.
Erlanger, who now tracks shorts and options via his Web site
www.erlangersqueezeplay.com, has just released new data on option and
short trading prior to the attack, gleaned from the New York Stock
Exchange.
"I saw these charts, and I said, 'This is not normal
activity,'" Erlanger said.
In his technical analysis of the charts created from the options
data, Erlanger said the "footprint for taking advantage of prior
knowledge [of the attacks] is definitely there."
Erlanger has turned his data over to the NYSE and SEC.
"It's up to the agencies to find the shoe that fits the footprint
to see whether this was indeed action taken with prior knowledge,"
Erlanger said.
Although not a sure sign of illegal activity, the activity in put
options is only seen "under extraordinary circumstances," Erlanger said,
such as when the country is at war. To have seen the activity in the
airlines and hotels balloon right before the attack is highly
suspicious, he said. "It doesn't prove that XYZ terrorists or associates
of terrorists or even a country or government of a terrorist did these
trades or someone with prior knowledge did these trades," Erlanger said.
However, he said with a heavy sigh, " it's so out of the ordinary that
it's walking like a duck and quacking like a duck."
For example, United Airlines saw a 40 percent jump in shorts -
some 4.4 million shares - compared with a month earlier. And American
Airlines saw 4,078 put options sold on Sept. 10, compared with an
average of 200. According to Erlanger's calculation, if one person
carried out that transaction on the 4,000 AMR puts, he would have netted
a profit of $4.8 million.
"The potential is for hundreds of millions of dollars (to have
been made here)," Erlanger said of all the combined activity on Sept.
10.
In an apparent act of trader hubris, Erlanger says some investors
were also making huge speculative bets in American Airlines doing "naked
call selling" in which an investor pledges to sell stock he or she
doesn't own. Normally, in selling "calls" the investor actually owns the
underlying security. If a naked call sell goes sour, the losses could be
huge.
But in the wake of American Airlines stock tumbling, making money
on the naked calls "was a layup, it was easy money," Erlanger said.
Although such trades leave a well-documented paper trail, actually
finding those involved or freezing any illegal assets may be moot.
"My suspicion is that if they had a U.S. account I'm sure they took the
cash out and split," said Randall Dodd, of the Washington-based Economic
Strategy Institute and head of its Derivatives Study Center. "These guys
don't appear to be stupid," Dodd said, "and they could have taken their
money out shortly after the exchange re-opened."
Making matters tougher on U.S. investigators would be if the
deals and profits were funneled through a network of offshore accounts
and murky banking franchises whose dealings help lubricate the
impoverished economies of countries known for their status as secretive
tax havens.
"More likely they didn't work in cash and had the funds
transferred to an overseas account that I can only suspect was in a
country that wasn't as cooperative (with U.S. banking investigations),"
Dodd said. "A clear audit trail can quickly disappear" once it has gone
overseas, he said.
Indeed, other countries also have been looking into suspicious
trades but have so far come up empty or have declared nothing out of the
ordinary occurred.
However, Bundesbank President Ernst Welteke said in Liege,
Belgium, on Saturday there were "ever clearer signs that there were
activities on international financial markets which must have been
carried out with the necessary expert knowledge" that the tragic events
in New York and Washington were about to take place.
If the profits are still inside U.S. banks, the SEC can take some
action to at least keep the money from being spent or disappearing into
the world's shadow financial networks of money laundering and coded
accounts.
There is no set of guidelines telling the SEC how or when to
freeze accounts under investigation, said John Hiney, an agency
spokesman. "It depends on the situation," Hiney said. "We can go to
court to freeze an account, and that would be a matter of public
record," he said. "We don't generally talk about investigations,
although there will generally be announcements put out about court
action of one sort or another and will close with the word that the
commission's investigation continues."

That article was written by someone of the "paranoia" level. That is exactly what we do not need to occur.
