OMG, I FIXED IT!!!!!!!! Only took five hours and a lot of help from the good peeps here!
I googled the error code and a poster in China said something about re-installing any peripheral in a different USB slot and doing an F8. I thought what the heck and with little hope I went through the motions till I got to my real full Windows screen -- woohoo!!!
Thanks to you and the Chief, Bruce, and Chrisau for keeping the fire lit here. YOu guys rock in my hour (s) of need!
Yes, a re-install seems unavoidable. I guess that if all else fails that will be the way to go.
This is the message I get:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. <BR> INVACID_KERNEL_HANDLE <BR> If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, <BR> restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: <BR> Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. <BR> If problems continue , disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe Mode to remove or disable componeats, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced <BR> Startup Options, and then select safe mode <BR> Technical information. <BR> *** STOP: Ox00000093 (Ox00000170, Ox00000000, Ox00000000, Ox00000000) <BR> Beginning dump of physical memory <BR> physial memory dump complete. <BR> Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
Either the game I installed screwed things up ( I did uninstall it but that changed nothing, nor did a restore pt several weeks ago. (sigh)
Unfortunately I deleted it because I found it too intrusive.
:(
If this helps at all the code that appears to explain crash or inability to access Windows Vista is:
Crash dump memory
STOP

2 1/2 years old with about 90GB left on a 230 GB hd. Most of the stuff I want to keep is on a peripheral hard drive, but I guess I would have to re-install some software if I had to start all over.
Ouch! There is no restore or back-up tab on the free version of Iobit Malware Fighter that I have on that computer and a Windows restore to way back does not work.
(sigh)
Thanks chief, I will try that ....
Went back to July 1, 2011 but didn't work. Maybe I should go back further. Got a lot of technical garble about memory dump 75 or something.
Any ideas what I can try next. I bought the computer with Windows Vista preloaded so I do not have the disks, but there seems to be troubleshooting program on drive.
Thanks for any ideas to continue ...
I can access Control Panel but the only option close to what you mention is System and there is no protection or Action Center available. Hmmmm? When I try to access system restore under Accessories and Tools I do not find it yet I have used it before ... ;(
At boot I get the message INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE
Wait a minute! With the Wizard in Help Center I was able to access system restore. Hopefully this works.
Do you think that this is a virus or a corrupted file or driver?
Thanks for all the help Chisau!!!
Help!!!!
I booted up my Tosh laptop this morning but Windows Vista Premium 64 bit refused to open because it said that doing so would harm computer.
I have been going in with safe mode which works fine, but when I tried system restore I could not find it anymore under system tools. A search says that program does not exist.
I uninstalled a game but that didn't help. Yesterday I did remove three high risk items detected by Iobit Fighter.
What should I try now? Thanks, any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Summer is here!!
cls fall continues to 52 week low -- almost! Short may still be on big time.
TD got whacked again ....
Wow! That is a biggie! They found security threats again?
Thanks! I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did??!!
:)
Vista Premium had 22 updates last night on shutdown and three on boot up. Lost screen for a while this am and had to reboot. Updates are scary things!
VISTA Premium had 22 updates last night at shut down. Had a blank screen for a while this am.
;(
The Killing is an awesome series ... best one on TV right now
Celestica or cls is on my radar. Heavily shorted stock but seems to be on verge of recovery.
ENA.tsx getting destroyed today and last few days
Anybody following Celestica!??
ThreatFire antivirus looks interesting ....
Good Wife and Body of Proof have been my two favourite shows this year, but The Killing has to be the best in many years.
Riding my Buick Park Avenue till it drops, it's birthday is in July and will be 20 years old. Carriage getting rusty and front suspension weakening. Mechanic finally said, "I think you should start looking for a new car.". Broke my heart as it I'd still so fine looking.
Greetings all!
Why am I suddenly getting regularly scheduled Disk Checks by Windows? Is it really necessary to have them several times a week?

Dlink DIR-628 thru tigerdirect sounds great !! Thanks for detailed info that I really appreciate!!
Thanks very much Don! I do have my main computer as a laptop on wireless so getting a new router sounds like a good idea!! Thanks again!!
They only offer a free month here but better than nothing. Thanks SkeB!!
Greetings all!!
I am switching over to a new Internet provider and I need to get a new modem for their high-speed service. Should I also get a new router to replace present 8 year old one even though it seems to work fine with present modem?
tia
I usually am connected to a 24" LCD Monitor for viewing purposes. This laptop has a SATA port for high speed connection to a SATA peripheral drive as well as HDMI output, so I could potentially hook it up to a 40" LCD TV.
Thanks for feedback!

This looks good for under $500 at Costco with concierge two year warranty that covers everything except the battery.
Thoughts or comments?
I can't seem to synch anything on my iPOD anymore. iTunes seems fine and the POD works, but I follow synching instructions to the letter but nothing works.
Please tell me what is the most common mistake I am missing here!!??
Thanks
News seems good enough and trading is positive so could definitely be a play short term to mid term. Tend to agree upswing is here
Don't be sorry, I am about to dump it for Linux Mint. Now I have reports of MP Telemetry problems allegedly to do with MSE
After installing latest Vista Premium updates the computer would not start up any more if it wasn't for Starter Repair. Updates for iTunes and Windows Vista are getting to be annoying and time wasters.
Was wondering why the stock price was fading fast!!
ASUS usually has a two-year warranty on laptops but the one I am looking at only has one. Any reason?
