That's why on the potential new location, I had an area dedicated to just knowledge lmao
lol I started making a "Sam File" in my free time...aaaaand gave up. We were covering so much ground at times, I was spending hours sifting through posts trying to catch up. LOL
Welcome aboard!
If you haven't yet, get a TD Ameritrade account and install Think or Swim software on your computer. If you use their PaperMoney® feature, it's simulated trading. The only difference is that it operates on a 20 min delay compared to your charts that are in real-time (provided you have a real-time data package).
Also, if you have a paid ihub membership...when you click to view Next 10 posts, go to the address bar and at the end where it says batch size=10 or whatever, change 10 to 100 and you can view batches of 100 at a time rather than 10. Makes things go a little faster. Once it's switched, your next button will automatically display the next batch of 100 rather than 10 until you leave the page.
VXX insane this morning...I decided to do a quick flip with paper money yesterday.
Bought and then forgot about it when I got to work. Missed my exit with a gap down today. D'oh!
Thanks! Modifying my chart now to incorporate this!
Somehow I had marked this as read without seeing it...great write-up! Your dad accomplished just about everything while he was here it seemed like. If he had a dream or desire to do something, he freaking did it. Nobody can say he never lived his life to the fullest. He sounded like a great and very accomplished man.
I think you misunderstood the purpose of this board...it's for short term pinchers, not spamming the boards with your current P&D.
lol ok...yeah, I guess I'm just curious where to put it to see the reverse stp? I created a separate ppo setup to try and see it in a symmetrical manner. I'll wait for a photo with the setup so I know I'm on the same page.
I'm playing with these now...very neat and seem to work similarly to the existing indicators we had but seem to be more precise on the timing whereas the others, you could tell it was pinching but not as easily see where it was going to bottom out before starting to climb. This seems to call the bottom much better.
I'm confused on the reverse STP part though...I'm kind of working on a new abbreviated chart that takes the crucial indicators and puts them into a layout where I can see it all easily (at least until you're able to give us a uniform layout to follow with the new charts).
Here's how I set up the new indicators for the moment:
http://tinypic.com/r/210y63r/9
This shows me the STP on the top 2 PPO's with the ADX3 and then the bottom shows me the reverse STP...but I'm not sure I have the Full STO's setup properly?
I need to get some extra cash together so I can start things over again...or at least jump on some paper trading now that my boss is in Florida (temporarily).
There are no charts for USTC on Stockcharts.com
Sorry to hear, Sam! It's always tough losing loved ones...I lost my mom at 16 and am thankful to still have my dad around, but unfortunately we live 1000 miles apart and I always worry that by the time I'm stable enough to move closer or at least visit far more often, it could end up being too late. I am glad you were able to remain so close with your family...both physically and emotionally. I always hate when I talk to people and they're still holding a grudge about some petty fight from years earlier and refuse to speak with their loved ones. There's a time where that grudge will automatically be put aside...and that's when you or they die. Problem is, that grudge then turns to regret for not putting it aside sooner. Obviously there are some unforgivable acts that warrant a grudge, but people really need to put the petty stuff behind them...forgive (not necessarily "forget") and move on. Life is short. Enjoy it and enjoy your friends and family.
I wish your family the best during these times.
Hahaha agreed!
Sam,
So sorry to hear that...take all the time you need to focus on your family. We've got the fort held down here. My boss' wife had a terrible stroke a few years ago and while she miraculously survived it, she's so different now, it's extremely difficult to cope with at times. We're glad she's here but in a sense, she's not anymore. Just know that even if there is anything they can do to save him, it may not make things any easier for you all in the end. Sad but true.
Will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
Wow...DOLV really screamed today.
Question...using the chart, it looked like a lot of sell signals hit at around 10am today with a number of indicators crossing negative or spiking back downward. What indicator(s) assured you it was going to only be a brief sell-off before continuing it's upward trend?
Mine's good now...ran out on a couple errands and came back and it was fine. Figures. lol
Anybody having issues with StockCharts.com? I'm seeing a bunch of LinkedIn errors when I try to click the home link or search for a chart...
Jill looks to be setting up for a reverse STP I think...all the bottom PPO indicators are coming together.
DAYUM
At one point in time I had a million shares of it...I was up over 1100% too and got greedy and lost all but a few thousand bucks on it. Still did very well on it, but had I not gotten greedy, I would have been very well off.
Sam, I actually started following your posts after I saw you discussing your STP charting on the SFOR board. lol
hahahahaha
I'm still in IL...watching KEM and AMD today. Keep getting fake outs.
Looking very interesting...I'm still trying to figure out timing my buys but I like it!
For those of you interested in my snake trip photos...here ya go!
We're on the drive home now...hiked roughly 6 miles, approximately half of which was up along the rock faces. We are so ridiculously sore, we can barely walk...glad I decided to take Monday off and not head back to Ohio tomorrow as originally planned.
Facebook apparently won't let me link to the album so I have to link to my individual posts which were limited to 30 photos max.
All in all we found:
43 cottonmouths
2 ribbon snakes
plain bellied watersnake
2 rough green snakes
11 cave salamanders
green frog
3 green tree frogs
gray treefrog
musk turtle
7 cricket frogs
5 leopard frogs
black ratsnake
3 long tailed salamanders
western smooth earth snake
This was one of our most productive trips ever...at times we were literally tripping over cottonmouths.

Morning! Heading to IL today and going to meet my cousin down south to catch and photograph venomous snakes and other creepy crawlies tomorrow...then Sunday going to try to convert my grandpa from a swing trader to an STP pirate. lol
I'm assuming we just put the new indicators above the existing...just making sure. lol
Also... assuming we'll change colors to match existing VTX?
Do we add those over our existing ADX indicators or put it up top and add new ADX indicators?
I was slammed at work all day so no paper trading or even observing for me :(
No problem, Sam... I've been slammed here at work too so I hear ya!
By the way...every stock I was watching gapped up this am, but none of them could hold those gains.
I paid $.27...could have got them at bottom for just under $.20 I think.
Learning though!
Bought XLK $60 calls in my paper money account...paid too much and trying to average down. Still buying too early but I'm at lunch and playing mostly.
It's pinching pretty tight...dunno if it'll spring like I'm hoping though.
Lol...still no Facebook...I need a hobby not a rest. :-p
Tomorrow's watch list...
AMD
GE
SPY
XLK
VXX had a good day today too...my gpa says the Dow is overbought right now and he's predicting an overall market correction here very soon. I'm thinking VXX may have a few really good days if/when that happens as well as precious metal tickers.
I'm working with the boss man today... looked at charts this am but didn't see any worth making my "pick of the day"...lol
I told my ex yesterday that I'm taking the weekend off work. I'm at work currently and have been here since 9am and will probably be here a few hours yet.
Currently sitting at 61.5 hrs for the week...normally work 35-40. Paycheck will be nice. lol
Yep! I think it hit $.60 at close (not sure what HOD was)...I paid $.12 and I bet they could have been bought for $.10 or less as it dipped lower yet after I bought. If I can start consistently hitting those with PaperMoney, I'm golden!
Have a happy....Columbusgiving? lol :-p
I just checked in on GDX...if you followed it closely today, it would have been a 400%+ day...not too shabby!
Yep, I recall those warnings very well...that's where catching bottom is crucial. And by that, I mean, patience. LOL
If you jump the gun, you may end up either being forced to sell for a loss at the end of the day or time decay will eat you alive while you wait for the stock to bottom and reverse.
Definitely best to wait for just the right moment even if it means you miss the bottom by a little...unless you like to gamble and don't mind losing everything.
Yep! Holding overnight has been my biggest killer... especially when everything looks promising and suddenly it gaps down the next morning.
My $23.50's hit too...overpaid for them, but at least they didn't expire worthless! lol
My 12 $23 calls I bought this morning at $.12 just sold for $.27...wish that was real money! LOL
Here she goes! Let's see if it can build some momentum!
