is... wishing Americans would wake up before it is too late.

Indeed - It seems only us 'old foggies' notice that sort of thing these days.
A true pity we do not have such a leader of our country today.
I like GP100 stories!
Sounds like you really screwed someone..... er,,, got a great deal on that one!
I bet! You're probably known far and wide for your 'electric personality' too, right?
I hear you .... and maybe I'm just trying to wear the guilt .. but I just feel that there must have been more I could have done, somewhere along the line. I guess I'm not that confident in myself. Don't know what for sure I should've done, or when .. but I just doubt I did everything I could have done .. somewhere along the line. I could have gotten out and given folks rides to the polls, or volunteered my time to help a candidate somewhere - something.
And I am including "they", in "us" ... They are part of "us" too.
Lightning is pretty dang scary sometimes. I've had a couple close calls, and it isn't fun. When the hair on your arms and neck starts standing up, it's definitely time to take cover .... 'cause you are the next target!
Didn't mean "you and I" ... I meant our generation ... and the one before it.
What more could we have done? Like you say, hindsight is 20/20.
I'm only saying we were evidently asleep at the switch somewhere along the line. I've yet to identify the famous "they" ... who are always to blame for everything.
We have seen the enemy and he is us.
I would like to be able to sit back and say, "I did everything I could have done" ... and maybe I did, but I can't be sure. And no, I don't know what else I could/should have done.
Just like our gun rights that are being slowly plucked away ... maybe not so much lately as a decade or two ago. But while we slept, surely there were forces at work to take baby steps toward disarming us.
Maybe we were guilty of casting a vote for the wrong person years ago ... or not sending in that $5 or $10 to the one we whould have supported ... who really knows. But we are seeing the results, and while things have gotten better in the past few years, we're still in a vulnerable situation with our gun rights.
I just don't think we can all look and point fingers in other directions, when we realize things have gone wrong right before our very eyes.
I hope for the knowledge and strength to do more in the future. It will be a battle of epic proportions before it's over. On all fronts.
I may be old and stupid, but I don't see any advantage at all to getting the FBI involved in background checks .. just one step closer to national registry.
Well we obviously didn't do enough, did we?
It happened on our watch, for sure. No denying it.
Yeah, well I guess we have to bear a large part of the responsibility for that, too.
At least for being complacent while it happened.
Two candy bars, a soda, and an ice cream bar ... for a quarter.
And RC colas had cash prizes printed on the cork liners of the caps.
Maybe 9, if I was real easy on it, but not much more ...
A mis-matched, bored out small block with a lot of add-ons (tranny, gears, cam, heads) from a '57 built to run a short 1/4 strip. Got it all for almost nothing. He was going to restore the '57, and just wanted everything stripped out .. so I accomodated him! Had it all in a 64 Biscayne 2 door. I had to take it all apart pretty quick. Running on the street was killing it! LOL as well as my 'gas fund' .. and my 'ticket factor' was pretty high too! Sold it all to another guy to put in a '56, who was going to put it all back on the drag strip - where it really belonged.
My first wife had a 63 or 64 Olds Starfire with either a 425 or 455 (can't recall exactly). Her folks helped her get it because they thought an Olds was a good car for a young lady ... and had no idea they were buying her a rocket sled on wheels! Dang, that thing would haul. It had only a single 4 barrel though, as I recall .... It got about 11 or 12 MPG too.
The rear end gears in those old Olds must have been designed for quick hole shots .. Even with that old automatic, that thing would smoke the tires.
And the back seat was literally like a sofa! (or so I am told!)
I remember those gas wars. The day before I left to go into the military, I was pumping regular for 24.9 a gallon. Regular price was about 32.9 at that time.
Of course, the car I drove got 8 MPG ... I preferred to measure it in "Fun per gallon" rather than miles. LOL
Exaclty right.
Sometimes I wonder if there really is no 'cure' for cancer ...
But, I'm a skeptic ... LOL
Minimal, I am sure ...
Actually, I have never even heard of any regulations or standards for hospitals in that area ... hmmmm.....
Yep, and if the hospitals did that, it would undoubtedly cut down in infections across the board, I'm thinking. Especilly would help the ones who work there everyday.
Oh, heck yeah! I know that's true.
They let me smoke my cigars in the casinos ... LOL
Sounds like true fun ... when the only care we had in the world was whether or not our engines would hold together for another tach-busting, tire burning run down the 1/4 ...
Always hated having to work with some nervous nelly looking over my shoulder. Just wasn't right!
I sure learned to change out a Chevy tranny and rear end in record time, though - had to, as many as we went through! LOL
It is indeed a wonder we made it through that .. no seat belts, let alone not wearing them. No air bags ... VERY questionable tires - sometimes moreso than others. Having to decide between another $2 worth of gas or something to eat ... well, the gas won out usually, and I wore much smaller waist sized blue jeans than today!
54,000 lbs of torque?
I don't go unless I just have to ... too many sick people and germs floating around.
Doesn't matter. No one will call this guy on anything he does. The fix is in.
Yeah! After I responded to your post, I got to thinking about it, and it is downright spooky.
Too much of this "We don't know what causes it - We don't know what it is" stuff the last few years ...
Oh my! Sounds like this one is gonna be a hum dinger!
Yeah, ain't it? I'm drooling!
Sounds like where Obama wants to take us!
Sounds like it!
I have pretty good insurance through my retired military status. My recent shoulder surgery ran me less than $75 out of pocket, including all office visits, and everything except my physical therapy. Haven't settled up on that yet.
It's good they work with US accredidation boards.
I was not aware of anywhere in Africa that did that! LOL
While stationed in Algiers, I literally had to get on a plane and go to Germany to an Army hospital for anything requiring a Dr's visit. We had an Embassy nurse, who did what she could, but she was limited.
While in the Congo, basically same deal, but we did have a French military Dr. we could see who was pretty good, and specialized in tropical related illnesses. Also a Russian civilian Dr, who I went to see once or twice.
The local hospitals, literally, did not have even an aspirin tablet. Anyone who was a patient there, had to be brought their meals by family members, as the hospital did not feed.
My wife and I went with one of our residential guards to see his wife and new baby in the hospital. We took her huge plate of food for dinner, and she had half the ward standing there watching her eat. She ate maybe a third of it, and shared the rest with several other patients. It was pretty pitiful, and made me thankful for what I had.
Good for you.
While in Algiers, one of our Marines had an acute appendicitis attack. Appendix had to come out NOW - no time to call a MEDIVAC to Italy or Spain ...
We got him to the local military hospital, where we located a Dr. (educated in the US) who could speak English. He removed the guy's appendix, sat with him in recovery, and as soon as he was awake and functioning, the Dr. told me to get him out of the Hospital and back to his residence. The probability of infection was just too great, if he remained in the hospital.
That really did a lot to tell me I could not have any confidence in the local medical facilities.
I had to go one time myself ... for an X-ray. And I tried to not touch anything while there! LOL
Wow .. what a thrill!
It is getting hard to find good true high octane fuel ..
Man, those old 396's would flat put out the torque!
Very nice car. SS 396 with a four speed? Or 327?
Sounds like you have a very good deal on taking care of your teeth! That's hard to find. Don't lose her! LOL
We have to. If we don't have a 'team' approach, nothing will get done. If Harry Reid ends up running the Senate again ... we might as well put Romeny on Administrative leave for four years! LOL
Sadly, though, that is nearly the truth.
Post of the year!
Outstanding. A very thorough and accurate general guide.
Thanks for posting this one!
We all need to read it ... twice.
Yep, I heard a sound bite from his speech on the radio this afternoon while out running errands. He sounded like he was OK with it, and pledged to support the nominee ...
Which took a lot for Newt to say! LOL
Well, we seem to have our guy now .... let's get busy and get out the vote!
Amen ... gotta love 'em.
Wow, thanks. See, I increased my coffee-growing-knowledge about five hundred percent.
Cacao may be a money maker, but I've heard there is another cash-crop down there too! LOL
I like my coffee strong too, and for many years, just plain black. After my time in Africa though, I got on the sugar thing, because their coffee was pretty much mud .. and then sugar & cream about three or four years ago. Now it's Sweet-n-low, and the powdered non-dairy creamer. I can drink coffee any time of day, any season of the year, but I also like my iced tea.
Do you roast your own coffee beans, or sell them right off the trees?
Thanks Andy!
Very interesting ... So do they pick the first berries that appear, or the second ones?
How big will the trees grow, and how long do they live?
The only thing I (thought I) knew about growing coffee was what I saw on "Out of Africa" which was nothing!
I don't recall seeing Nicaraguan coffee on the market .. I guess they just sell it labeled as "100% Arabica" or something similar, rather than "Columbian"?
Do the Nicaraguans drink their coffee made very strong, with lots of sugar and cream?
Yeah, yeah, lots of questions ... but I'm just an old country boy and never got out much growing up ... so I'm curious! LOL
Thanks .. will check it out!
My dad cut our hair at home, and it was either "short" or "short" ... The old 'peeled head' look .. Not even long enough to use that stuff! LOL
Precisely. Forgive me. I thought for a moment I was back in the real America!
