HP introduces thin clients with unprecedented security, exceptional flexibility and performance
http://goo.gl/QUCZ4
HP announced the powerful new HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client and HP t510 Thin Client with industry-leading performance and security, enabling businesses to protect their data more effectively while improving employees’ user experience.
Ideal for industries such as healthcare, financial services, public sector and retail, where employees must often access sensitive data, the HP t510 and HP t610 offer industry-first hard identification security as well as a broad set of tools to simplify management.
“With these new, flexible thin clients, businesses can protect their data more effectively, and they get an exceptional user experience with better graphics and video performance,” said Albert Mateo, HP Personal Systems Group General Manger. “We also made sure the t610 and t510 are easy to integrate and manage with a broad set of management tools.”
Built-in industry-first security
The HP t610 is the industry’s first thin client to feature both a BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) that complies with the security recommendations of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and an on-board Trusted Platform Module that protects access to networks under the certification requirements of the Trusted Computing Group.
These features provide hard identification security for sensitive computing environments, giving businesses a second layer of protection for company data.
I agree, it's all about the architecture and intel certainly has an uphill battle. Several analyst say that 2014 will be the year for intel to prove itself. I wouldn't bet the house on it, however, intel is good at these type of battles -- just ask AMD.
And then this also.

Could Intel Be the Surprise Windows 8 Winner?
...
In October, McWilliams tipped investors to the other side of the Windows 8 story. He acknowledged that opening the door of Windows 8 to ARM-based solutions will win designs for ARM in previously untapped markets, but told Next Inning readers what will prove more important is how the move will allow Intel to compete more effectively in the mobile smartphone and tablet markets where it had virtually zero market share when entering 2012. "As Microsoft optimizes Windows 8 so it can address the tablet market and include ARM core processors, Intel will have the advantage of six million existing software programs designed specifically to run on the Windows operating system using an x86 processor."
...
Awk, maybe not. Here's a nice read
http://goo.gl/njuX6
Last paragraph:
Twisting ARMs
Whether this actually happens or not, however, is another matter. Medfield probably already has a small process advantage at 32nm over most smartphone chips. Most current ARM chips for phones are either 40nm or 45nm, with a few 32nm efforts just appearing.
However, Intel recently announced a delay rolling out its first 22nm PC processors, so all isn't completely kosher with its 22nm node. Whether that will have any impact on 22nm Atoms next year and 14nm Atoms in 2014 is a pretty tough call.
As for whether you should care about any of this, well, if Intel does pull it off, that means more competition. And more competition will translate into faster, cheaper and longer lasting phones. I think we can all agree, that's a good thing.
Trying to pick up some also. Merrill still forces me to use a "SafePass" code. Very annoying!

CISCO Mr. Roy Skillicorn, Senior Director, Physical Security Business Unit, Cisco, said, "Cisco Services and our partners have a deep knowledge of both the network infrastructure, including security solutions that require use of the network, and the video application layer. We and our partners can therefore work with customers on solving questions like: How do you send video to mobile endpoints like tablets? How do you enable interoperability across protocols?"

Hackers probably stole Steam transaction data, Valve says
by Lucian Constantin, IDG News Service
Feb 13, 2012 10:00 am
Valve has informed users of its Steam online game distribution platform that hackers have probably downloaded encrypted credit card transaction data from a backup database during an intrusion last year.
In November 2011, Valve announced that hackers gained unauthorized access to Steam’s user database, but said that there was no evidence to suggest a leak of encrypted credit card details at that time.
However, that has since changed. “Recently we learned that it is probable that the intruders obtained a copy of a backup file with information about Steam transactions between 2004 and 2008,” said Gabe Newell, Valve’s co-founder and managing director, in an email sent Friday to Steam users.

Intel Has Sensitive Data Stolen By Hacker
http://goo.gl/xt622
Security expert would have accessed the database through the company’s failure in the system feeds in the subscriber site.
According to the publication of The Hacker News site, a hacker nicknamed “Weedgrower” and “X-Posed” claims to have hacked the database of Intel and collected sensitive information such as credit card numbers, social insurance numbers, email addresses and passwords.
The security expert would have found a loophole in the system subscriber (via RSS feed) the company’s website. Through this flaw, the hacker managed to access the confidential records of the organization. He threatens to leak some of the information stolen if Intel is silent about what happened.

“I have to give some applause to all those pseudo-technical security. Intel invade and have access to a database and another vulnerability that allows me to read the data from users. I’ll be here and not vazarei data, but I will provide pictures to prove that I have access to credit card data, “commented” Weedgrower. “

The funny part is that two years back the IT department at my work knew NOTHING (nada, zippo) of TPMs. I talked to them about TPMs on numerous occasions and they thought i was crazy. Now every computer/laptop (Dells) at my workplace has a TPM with bitlocker in control.

What If Kim Jong-Il's Successor Isn't Ready?
The North Korean leader's 27-year-old son is next in line, but the military might not support him.
Kim Jong-Il probably knew he didn't have much time left when, 15 months ago, he held the first "Worker's Party Conference" -- a gathering of North Korea's political and military leaders -- in 30 years. There, he established his successor: Kim Jong-Un, his heavy-set, Swiss-educated, and reportedly not very bright son, then 26 years old. Sure enough, North Korean state media, almost immediately after it announced Kim Jong-Il's death, declared Kim Jong-Un as the new leader.

Euro 'Crisis' Or Alarmist Dialogue Amongst The Talking Heads And Where Are U.S. Assets Headed?
Readers want actionable advice that can be traded immediately. Not necessarily a short-term day trade, but an opportunity immediately present and called for, not one which requires patience. Ah the virtues of trading. To see the opportunity, one must first understand the overall global macro dialogue. Only then from a top-down approach, can we find precisely where to place our bets. First some analysis of the global economy by focusing on overseas news broadcasts, financial banter and of course, the raw data. Events surrounding the Euro and smaller nation-states like Greece are highly fluid. 2008 taught us a butterfly can in fact trigger a tsunami on the other side of the world.
The Euro is shackled by irresponsible governments, poorly designed economic infrastructures and restrictive "bands" preventing flexibility with rates during times of systemic stress. The once all-mighty "dollar killer" destined to be the uber-reserve currency and savior to non-aligned countries finds itself under threat of demise. Was it all just an experiment? Should hedge fund managers be jumping for joy as the potential return of individual currencies brightens the prospects of all portfolio managers? There's no doubt Germany holds all the cards in this game and Merkel is poker faced as ever. The key question: is the end game a fait accompli or are there other possible outcomes which don’t involve the unwinding of the Euro? Conversely, will the Euro become a relic of the past, her demise returning competitive advantages to individual nations and a lot more trade opportunities for hedge fund managers? The Euro was supposed to get rid of localized economic advantages by achieving price parity across borders. The Euro was much despised by the Germans for the same reason as the crumbling of the wall devastated the economy of West Germany. The influx of unemployed, post-communist laborers unaccustomed to hard work hit the Germans with a recession lasting a full decade.

LONDON—European stock markets were mostly lower Tuesday as fears over debt continued to affect confidence.
Concerns over possible ratings downgrades and the absence of a lender of last resort in the shape of the European Central Bank is weighing on risk appetite, said Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets. "Market participants would be unwilling to put on massive risk in a low-liquidity environment near to year-end," it added.
