I keep thinking that it has to take a breather at some point.
We know with absolute certainty it's not a server utilization issue or memory (RAM) problem.
Just as I was reading that I wondered whether it could be a RAM problem -- a defective chip of some kind. This may be too basic but I have had it happen twice on different machines. Craps out for no good reason. Even when I had memory management software monitoring the RAM, nothing appeared out of whack except that it was. Replacing the chips has solved the problem.
In this context, how have you ruled out RAM? Slow activity would not rule out a physical problem with the RAM.
Looks like I don't make X-mas on catching up....this place is getting awfully full.
I'm catching up...less than 1000 to go.
I think I have figured out the weird cookie requests that I get sometimes. They appear to originate from images in a post.
For example, #msg-1935618 generated a cookie request for:
SITESERVER
lifesflavor.com
ID=2bf291cc9d9eaf2be3e940cc000488da
It appears that the image in that post is from the site trying to place the cookie. Is the cross-site cookie request normal? Any idea if there is a setting (other than the routine cookie settings) to prevent it?
Wish I had knew enough to have some ideas for you on the mystery slow downs......no such luck though.
What is nice is seeing two superstars play someplace because it feels good for reasons other than a mega contract.
And a grand year it should be. Now, if they could just get a real center fielder, all will be great. I am not holding my breath, however, since this puts Drayton well over his budget.
He was up late. His reply:
My friend, you have come to the right person. As you know, lady luck and I have had an on-and-off-again affair for years. She is a hellava lover. She is presently living with someone else right now though.
As for your question:
We got tons of slots. We got blackjack. We got no poker tables.
It follows the tradition of IHubbed her brains out.....
Speaking of which.....might it be a good time to start planning a Vegas bash for the Fall?
I do not know off the top of my head about Oklahoma but I have a friend there and have sent him an email asking about it. I'll let you know what he says.
Search this thread for "hold." There was some lively discussion about it a while back.

It is just one of those inherent Canadian conditions.
Huge Pot Farm at Brewery
Canadian Police Say Bust Points Out National Problem
AOL Wire Services
BARRIE, Ontario (Jan. 13) - A marijuana "factory'' concealed within a sprawling old brewery just steps from one of Ontario's busiest highways is proof Canada's pot problem has reached "epidemic proportions,'' police said Monday.
The former Molson brewery in Barrie, Ontario, plainly visible from Highway 400, one of the province's busiest commuter routes, was raided on the weekend by 100 police officers acting on a tip.
Inside, police found marijuana with what they said had an estimated street value of $30 million, along with a grow operation of staggering proportions - the largest and most sophisticated in modern Canadian history. Police said the factory-like operation used miles of irrigation piping and 1,000 hydroponic lights to nurture plants in an area the size of a football field.
"This is not a ma-and-pa operation,'' said Barrie police Chief Wayne Frechette.
Across the complex, police found more than 25,000 pot plants growing everywhere - even inside the cavernous indoor vats once used to brew beer.
Molson closed the brewery in 2000 and sold it to a company that leases space to about half a dozen businesses. The other companies included trucking companies and a bottling company, police said.
Nine men had been arrested in connection with the operation.
Canada has more lenient marijuna criminal penalties than the United States, although large-scale growing operations like the Barrie one are still very much against the law.
U.S. drug enforcement officials have expressed concern about marijuana imports from British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province. Law enforcment says it's an industry worth $6 billion annually. But Ontario has begun to catch up. In recent years, according to a report called Green Tide, prepared for Ontario police chiefs, marijuana cultivation in the province had risen 250 percent between 2000 and 2002.
Barrie has 115,000 residents and is located 50 miles north of Toronto,

Ford unveils the new Shelby Cobra
By Jeremy Grant in Detroit (Financial Times)
Published: January 5 2004 9:24 / Last Updated: January 5 2004 9:24
Ford Motor returned to its racing roots by unveiling late on Sunday a new version of its Ford Shelby Cobra, a two-seater, V10 roadster developed in collaboration with US racing car driver Carroll Shelby.
The vehicle was designed to highlight Ford’s focus on developing its passenger cars in the next two years, and was displayed at the Detroit motor show alongside another racing vehicle, the latest version of Ford’s GT.
While no decision has been made on whether to bring the Shelby Cobra into commercial production, the GT goes on sale later this year for under $150,000 per vehicle. Ford expects to sell about 5,000 GTs in the next five years and maintains a waiting list of potential customers for the vehicle.
Ford has invested heavily in the revival of its racing image in order to win back customers, especially in North America, after years focusing on sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks.
Although margins on limited production, high-performance vehicles are modest, Ford expects the GT and Shelby Cobra – should it go into production – to be profitable. Sir Nick Scheele, Ford's chief operating officer, said: “We are a company founded on our racing and I think many of us believe that our future is bound up with motor racing. We have to do this. But we are not doing anything now that doesn’t have a business case.”
He said about 120 GTs would be fitted with left-hand drive steering for sale in Europe.
The 600-horsepower Shelby Cobra is built on the same basic undercarriage as the GT. It has no roof, is capable of 195 miles per hour and manages zero to 60 miles an hour in under four seconds.
Mr Shelby, now in his 70s, rose to prominence when he won Europe’s prestigious 24-hour endurance race at Le Mans in 1959, driving an Aston Martin.
He had driven his second Ford-powered race car in 1962, an early mock-up for the Cobra, which he subsequently raced in.
In January 1965, Ford hired Mr Shelby to help on the carmaker’s plans for the GT40 racing car, the precursor to the GT but development of the Cobra continued, with the vehicle competing against General Motor’s Corvette.
In 1965, Mr Shelby introduced the 427 Cobra – the car many enthusiasts herald as the ultimate street-legal racer.

Skewered and very well done. Charred those Bronco's.
New Orleans Gambling Report
Made very nice denero on this trip. Played about 10 hours of blackjack over six sessions. Won money on five of the six sessions and the one looser was only $125. Paid for the trip, all of the SU's shopping, the side trip to Gulfport-Biloxi to shop and dine with a friend, and the rent car to bring home all the stuff we bought and still had some change left over. The wife gave some of it back on the slot machines, but not enough to matter. Harrah's is okay, but quirky. Long lines to cash in chips really were annoying. Played some two deck, but did not like not being able to double on splits.
Stayed at the Crowne Plaza (Bourbon @ Canal) the first two nights. It is an old hotel, but was okay. Staff was nice and the Brennan's restaurant had wonderful food. We were comped, but I would not have minded paying the ~$60 to $80 they normally charge. Only down side was that they had no King Size beds left when we checked in.
The last night we stayed at the Wyndham. It was very nice. Very upscale. Wonderful view of the river and 50% larger room with nice amenities such as the in room bar with reasonably priced stuff (soft drinks were only $1.25). It is also much closer to the casino -- right across the street. Again, it was comped, but it was easy to understand why it runs $140+.
We again dined at our favorite restaurant -- Cafe Orleans on Decatur, one block off of Canal. We went early (5:00 p.m.) and got spectacular service and food. We ate nothing from the menu -- all specials or specially made at our request.
Since we drove back to Houston, we stopped at the Harrah's in Lake Charles for a 45 minute driving break. Dropped $500 in the first 20 minutes and then spent the next 20 minutes treading water. Ended four nice hands in a row - the only such run -- to get back to within $25 of even and walked away.
This is a strange article. Gambling losses are only deductible to the extent of gambling winnings. If you have a net loss for the year, there is no deduction.

I either win big or lose big......
Am leaving for New Orleans in about an hour. Harrah's has already comped our room for the next three nights. We are planning a side trip to Gulfport-Biolxi either Saturday or Sunday. I really like gambling at the Grand in Gulfport and the SU always likes the soft shell crab at a restaurant in Biloxi.
Here is to hoping for a very nice New Year!
By far the best yet!!
Looks like most of us missed it for today. I am leaving town again and wil not be back until sometime next week. I'll take 1959 for next week.

Since this is the Q&A board:
Why is it that on a Canadian two dollar bill, the flag flying over the Parliament Building is an American flag?
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Hope you feel better, but I told ya you should have gone to Cayman.
Several people have asked about that before (me included). If you search this board and the Wish List board you will find Bob's detailed explanations. Basically, as I understand it, the routine(s) running the edit window are fragile creature(s) that if tinkered with might wreak havoc on lots of other things. Also as I understand it, this project has gone on the "one of these days" list since it would be a large expenditure of time.
