You must be 59 and the money must be in the account five years. But it certainly doesn't have to be in the same stock. You can day trade siaf every day if you like.

You got some bad info Viking. That's just not true, at least not in the U.S. You can trade freely, tax free as long as you don't withdraw the money before 59.

I've bought and sold siaf a few times in my Roth.

are you sure? Usually with a roth you can buy and sell as you like but you can't withdraw the money tax free until you're 61 or whatever.
