TOP 40: PSL1-11: ADJUSTED RETURN:
Must have participated in at least 6 of the 11 PSL contests to qualify (80 QUALIFIERS).
This replaces Average Return and Average Rank. This was Gilead's idea - that being to show the average differential between a person's return and the average return for each contest. Therefore, KIK has averaged 21% better than the average PSL return for each contest he's been in - which in his case, is all eleven.

Thank you KIK. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
My wife and I would like to contribute to St Jude Children Research Hospital. The health care system in the US is a disgrace of our country, St Jude is here to help children that are in needs.

Matt: Thanks for the IHUB subscription prize. It's much appreciated. This is a great website !
Congrats on the SECOND PSL win! I've credited your account with the 1 year prize. ENjoy!

I apologize for not getting some of the post contest stats done. I will do them soon - including the average rankings and ratings for the previous 11 contests.
A special appreciation to KIK and SSK for their contributions. Of course, R59 is the THE MAN nowadays. I always knew it, but after winning two of the last three PSL contests (the first two-time winner), he is in a very special category.

Congratulations to cl001 for winning my...
$200 Get eTF Outta Here! Contest. He managed a second place finish without the use of any ETFs and he also took the nsomniyak challenge. Researcher59 also did not use ETFs, but in a tragic miscalculation, neglected to take the nsomniyak challenge.
So cl, post or PM me your favorite charity and I'll cut them a check for $200. Congratulations again and nice job negotiating an ETF-free contest!
Thanks again to len, SSK, and all the contestants for another fascinating competition. Good luck in PSL12.
VMC PSL 12 Info.
May 22nd Deadline; May 25th VMC PSL 12 Starts
Because of where the 15th lands I'm not placing it that week it will be the week of the 22nd (deadline) with it starting on the 25th. It will run 14 weeks to August 28th. Hope This Helps.
When is the deadline for PSL12?
Nice job researcher! Many of us pay particular attention to your PSL picks and posts on VMC. By chalking up your second win I'm sure you'll garner a fresh set of boardmarks.
Congrats! You put up a pretty gaudy number!
Thanks for all the congratulatory remarks ! I really appreciate it.
Cl001 deserves special honorary mention for nearly overtaking me in the final days .... he ran out of time but probably would have won if the contest had continued for another day or two.
Reply To 'researcher59' on 'VMC Pick Six Lotto11'
You are a class act... No one said it would be easy but cream always floats to the top... DD and patience win every time and now you have done it twice... You are the high bar to beat at VMC proving that glitter is not always gold... Best to you and yours in the future .. DIT,, just looked too good to be true when you told me to buy it below $18,, Now it's a double !!!! hank
Great trades, R59. BW did a fine job by adding you to the manager of VMC. He probably saw our two times champion coming!
It is generous of you to donate the one year subscription to SSK. His hard work is greatly appreciated!
I think small caps already are hot, Bobwins. When inflation hits, they will be THE place to be. And Apollo Gold will be $2 by the end of the year, so I'm going to select it in the next three contests! LOL.
Congrats to Researcher. Ho Hum! Another win!
I think it's informative that you "traded" your way to victory. This market is shifting fast and trading seems to be the winning strategy. This is starting to remind me of 2003-4, when smaller cap stocks started taking off after the 9-11 stock downturn.
Will smallcap and microcap stocks get red hot?
Also have to watch out for the end of this bear market rally. Went up fast and hard and could go the other direction just as quickly.
Thanks to Sskillz for all the hard work.
Bobwins
And thank you lentinman! After all these years and contests, I finally made it to the top on one, thanks mostly to my double down position in CHME and it's 3 month climb to over 100% gain during the contest.
Congratulations researcher
No surprise to see you winning again. You are certainly one of the most astute investors on VMC.
And as many have said thanks to SSKILLZ. This is an incredible amount of work and he does a fantastic job.
Thank you SSKILLZ1. Don't know if research59 and cl001 were watching their rear view mirrors, but I was closing in on the final lap. Moved from #20 to #8 thanks to CHME's nice performance last week.
researcher59 & MSGI...If I am figuring things right, both used kind of different strategies to win the last 2 contests. resercher59 did a great jod trading his way to the top (w/ freezes) where MSGI did a great job timing his freezes.
Congratulations to both of you on your wins.
Great job SSK. Thanks for all of the HOURS that you put into this contest.
Congratulations researcher. Very nice gain for the quarter. Also, what a nice guesture to give SSK a one year subscription for his hard work. Shows what a great person you are.
My remarks for the VMC Champions Board -
PSL11 spanned a very interesting and volatile period for the stock market ! As measured by the S&P500, the market dropped an unremarkable 3% for the 15 week contest period. However during the first 8 weeks of the contest the market dropped 25% followed by a rebound of 30% in the final 7 weeks. In effect we experienced a bear market for the 1st half of the contest followed by a bull market in the 2nd half. A truly unique and historic period !
I was greatly focused on my own portfolio during the market crash and so during the first 10 weeks of the contest did not make any trades (being very distracted by my own rapidly declining net worth) ! As the market began a strong rebound in early March I found myself in the middle of the pack in 40th place. On March 20th, 10 weeks into the 15 week contest, I was in 30th place with a loss of 8%. I still had my 4 trades left and set out to improve my position, with the goal of perhaps making it into the top 10. Victory was hardly on my mind with Yielddude leading with a gain of 37%.
On March 25th I began my comeback bid by freezing DIT for a 50% gain and soon thereafter doubled down into KPPC. My key trade came next, a risky earnings play on ERSO, a former IBD #1 stock now on the pinksheets. Q4 prospects were grim with aluminum prices having fallen sharply but I was encouraged by their dividend declaration as well as comments about hedging in their SEC filings. Even a breakeven quarter might spark a rally in the stock given its very depressed price of $0.57. My risky trade paid off nicely when they posted a surprisingly decent quarter with EPS of $0.06. The stock quickly rallied to near $1 for a 74% gain. My next trade was more conservative, into MFI, a financial microcap that hadn’t participated in the rally of the financials and seemed overdue for an upside move. That led to a gain of 29% over a 2 week period. Another winner for me was ORS which rallied strongly when a newsletter recommended it. I opportunistically froze the stock to lock in a 49% gain and subsequently traded into AEY for a further small gain.
Without any trading my original pick 6 would have appreciated 17% for the contest compared to a loss of 3% for the S&P500. It would have been a respectable showing but still only a 19th place finish. Trading is one of the keys to strong results and allowed me to surge up the rankings in the final weeks and finish with a gain of 62%.
The VMC board is by far the finest I have ever come across on the internet and has significantly contributed to my success in recent years. The expertise and due diligence of so many of our contributors is unrivaled in my experience. I look forward to continued successful investing and trading together in the years ahead. I wish our entire group success. For some more information on my investment style along with a bit of personal background I refer you to my PSL8 champion’s commentary -

SKILLZ1 is the greatest. He has really worked hard to make this contest so great. U are the best!
CL001. Pat yourself on the back, my friend. U did a wonderful job too and made the contest very exciting.
Congratulations researcher59. VERY impressive.
R59, Congrats for the first ever repeat champion! I got close but not enough. I did lobby AGT a few times to publish a PR on Friday so I can beat the famous Researcher59, but they didn't bite
Well, I am a small cap investor, seldom follow micro cap anyway. I never thought I could be as good as you or KIK and other in the PSL. I am very satisfied with a strong finish.
My 15 minutes of fame.
Thanks SSKILLZ1 for all your work on the contest!
Congratulations Researcher! Great job. Also kudos to Tomorrow, sskillz, lentinman, and a close finish to CL001.

SSK is the driving force behind these contests, putting in work week after week, not to mention all the work he does for the main board in managing the VMC index.
As a token of my appreciation for his tremendous contributions it's my pleasure to award him with an added year subscription to IHUB.
SSK: Thanks for putting in all the hard work ! The statistics are fascinating and I'll be spending more time reviewing them over the weekend.
It was a tight race to the finish and I feel lucky to have won .... if the contest had gone just another day or two CL001 would probably have overtaken me. So congrats also to CL001 for a terrific finish. He's sure to win one of the upcoming contests, it's only a matter of time !
Congrats to Researcher59 on the victory. Hopefully everyone had fun in PSL 11. Before you know it will be time for PSL 12. Anyways once again congrats to Researcher59 on winning PSL 11.

Mr. Consistency Standings
The Methodology: I provided a Mr. Consistency stat in VMC PSL 1, but couldn't do it in contest 2 + 3 due to trades. Anyway I found a new way to handle the situation in VMC PSL 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and beyond. Yes it it a different calculation then the one used in VMC PSL 1, but I still believe it shows a consistent stock picker, hence I'm going to call it Mr. Consistency standings.
Now first it is important to recognize that we start out with 6 position and end with 6 position. We may not have 6 different stocks in the portfolio, or the same 6 stocks we started with, but we still have 6 different positions.
From a calculation standpoint, we Take out the top performing and Worst Performing position of each person's PSL. We then Average the other 4 and we get an answer. I'm not going to bore anyone with the math behind it as it is very boring. But I believe this should give you a good idea of what I've done.
As you can see from a consistency standpoint. CL001 was up 61.47% using the consistency standings. So congrats to CL001 he is Mr. Consistency. There are 37/67 portfolios in positive territory using this stat instead of 44/67 the way we look at it to get a VMC PSL Champion. Well anyways I hope everyone enjoys this, I put a lot a work into this one, but I feel it is worth it.

The The Top 11 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 5 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 230 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 65 portfolios. These indexes or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).
Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 26 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 204 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What This basically means is there are 28 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stock only have 1 unit, but a stock like AGM has 2 units because it was picked 2 times in the contest. Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Non Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 362 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stock only have 1 unit, but a stock like ADL is weighted much more heavily and has 9 units because it was picked 9 times in the contest. Next, we get to the Average Portfolio (Original) the only difference between this index and the average portfolio return is it excludes the impact of transactions, meaning if no one could make transactions (Which is obviously not the case) this would be the average portfolio return. The Champions Index is basically and index that takes the average of the former eight PSL champions performance (Only 8/10 Participated in PSL 11). If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Hope you enjoy the info.

As Usual I used my 4 trades as well if I had 8 of course I would use 8 as you alluded too. I'm not against a ton of trades, but their are a number of people that prefer this contest doesn't become a trading contest. I may change things a little in PSL 12, with the Buy a trade scenario, but that thought process is still a work in progress yet. Hope This Helps.

The winner gets... A year's subscription to IHUB....plus pride in being the #1 performer against a lot of very good stockpickers on the best stockpicking board on the internet. And, they get highlighted on the VMC Champions Board. http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=4067
ELIGIBILITY Solely up to the moderators of this board. Any contestant who is booted from IHUB during the contest is ineligible to win any individual PSLcontest.
A FEW POINTS
All picks will be "blind" picks. By that, it means they will have to be based upon the person's best guess rather than by seeing what others have done. When the picks are made, they will be deleted (hidden) from the board. Once the deadline passes, all picks by each person will be shown in the Ibox.
PSL11 will begin on Monday, January 12th and end on Friday, April 24th. Everyone must have their picks in before January 9th at 4PM EST. All beginning prices will be as of the the close on Friday, January 9th.
All picks need to be done on this board and not via PM so that we have a record. Also, you can never be sure if whoever you send it to is even around or reading PMs. If you post it on the board, it is permanent and fixed in time.
We will list each person's picks in the Ibox in alphabetical order.
CONTEST RULES
Shown below are all the rules with respect to PSL11. THERE ARE NO SIGNIFICANT RULE CHANGES.
Reminder: The most recent rule change in PSL7 from PSL6 - the methodology to determine initial qualification for a stock on dollar volume was changed to a more simple formula. Take the Yahoo 3-month average number of shares traded times the closing price on January 9th - allowing one day to make changes if necessary. If that number is over $5,000, it qualifies. If not, it doesn't. Of course, other qualfications still remain - ie 25 cent rule and VMC earnings rule except for wild cards.
Reminder: There was one change made during PSL6. That was an exception to the 15% rule penalty. "However, this rule is NEGATED if the first trade the following day has a dollar volume of at least $50,000 OR if the stock ends above +15% on $100,000 in dollar volume." - see #19 below.
Reminder: These were the changes for PSL6 in case you missed them. Four transactions (trades or unfreezes) plus unlimited freezes** and up to two short positions instead of only one. **sole exception - see #19 (15% rule)
1) Pick exactly 6 stocks that you believe will have the greatest appreciation during the period of the contest.
2) Only cash dividends of over 10% will be adjusted for. Stock dividends and splits will always be adjusted for.
3) Each stock must be at least 25 cents as of the deadline for making your picks. If one of your stocks is below 25 cents on the close, you will have until midnight (assuming no news) to pick another stock that qualifies. If not, a cash position will be assigned to your portfolio.
4) Stocks must meet VMC earnings & reporting requirements (see explanation immediately below this list) with the exception that one WILD CARD pick will be allowed (see #16 below).
5) A minimum $5,000 average daily dollar volume for the previous three months is required on any original or any new stock. This is calculated as the Yahoo 3-month average shares traded times the closing price of the stock.
6) Foreign stocks are allowed as long as they are trackable on Yahoo. Some foreign stocks have pinky versions and that is ok.
7) One of your 6 original positions can be a cash position.
8) No options or warrants or mutual funds. ETF's are ok.
9) No limit on market cap.
10) It is not required that you disclose whether you own these stocks.
11) First come, first serve. All GROUPS of 6 must be unique. If a person already has your exact 6 choices you will need to make at least one substitution. This has not happened so far and is very unlikely.
12) You will receive 4 transactions during the contest. You can use 0, 1, 2, 3 or all four. That is up to you.
13) All transactions will be done as of the next closing price. If the transaction is done after the close, it will be as of the close of the following market day. There is a one half hour grace period to allow for UNDOING a trade - assuming there is no news involved to either part of the transaction during that half hour. This is because many closing prices are not available until 20 minutes after the close.
14) A transaction can be a trade or an unfreeze (just like it sounds). A double down (see below) is also a transaction. All transactions should be done on the PSL board - and not via PM.
DOUBLE DOWNS
--- A double down will be allowed where you can trade one of your stocks (or cash) into a "double" position of one of your other stocks (or cash).
--- Once double downed, always doubled downed. In other words, when two stocks are merged into one, they cannot be unmerged. You can trade, freeze or unfreeze the merged unit just as you would a single unit.
--- Once two stocks have been merged via a double down they cannot be double downed into another stock or another stock cannot be double downed into them. A maximum of 2+2 of the 6 units can be merged together. In other words, you can have two double downs at once with two other stocks that are not doubled - ie 4 stocks and 6 units.
--- A maximum of two double downs are allowed per contest.
--- You cannot double down until two weeks have passed - after the close of Thursday, January 23rd - which will allow it to be in effect as early as September 27th - two weeks into the contest.
--- Only stocks that meet the earnings rule, the volume rule and the .25 rule can be double downed into.
15) Any stock - whether frozen or not - can be traded for cash, or another stock. In all cases, the value of the entity that you are trading away must be reinvested in total into the new entity.
16) There will be one Wild Card allowed. One of your picks can deviate from the VMC rule - either in terms of earnings or in terms of being a non-reporting pinky.
17) You are only allowed up to two short positions.
SHORT POSITIONS: A short position must take the form of any ETF. Shown below are four double-beta shorts against the corresponding index...
--- QID: Nasdaq 100
--- SDS: S&P 500
--- MZZ: S&P MidCap 400
--- DXD: Dow Jones Industrial Average
and one single beta short.
--- DOG: Dow Jones Industrial Average
18) A stock does not trade the day AFTER you pick it.
Trade: If one stock trades - whether Stock A (Sell) Or Stock B (Buy) you get a cash position and a transaction is used. If neither stock trades, the transaction is void.
Freeze: If you freeze a stock, whether it trades the following day or not is irrelevant. The freeze takes affect.
Unfreeze: If you unfreeze a stock, the unfreeze is voided and no transaction is used.
19) The 15% rule is designed specifically to discourage picking stocks that have low liquidity. Thus risk is associated with shooting the moon on a potentially bogus trade. However, this rule is NEGATED if the first trade the following day has a dollar volume of at least $50,000 OR if the stock ends above +15% on $100,000 in dollar volume.
---If you make a trade, and the stock you bought opens the next day up 15% or more on no news (and closes above 15%), the trade is voided. The stock you sold turns into cash. 1 Transaction used.
---If you unfreeze a stock and it opens the next day at 15% or more on no news (and closes above 15%), the trade is voided. 1 Transaction used.
---If you sell or freeze a stock and it opens the next day down 15% or more on no news (and closes below 15%), the trade is voided. 1 Transaction used.
-- Own ABC. You sell or freeze. It opens +15%+. Irrelevant
-- Own ABC. You sell or freeze. It opens -15%+. Rule applies
-- Don't own ABC. You buy or unfreeze. It opens +15%+. Rule applies
-- Don't own ABC. You buy or unfreeze. It opens -15%+. Irrelevant
20) If a stock is halted for any reason and a person freezes it during the time it is halted, their price for the contest will be whatever it is frozen at AS LONG AS it remains frozen until the contest ends. Otherwise, the price will be the close of the first day of trading after the halt is lifted. Also, you cannot use those funds to buy or trade into any other stock while it is halted - just as in real life.
21) Fill/Kill will be offered to anyone who wants to not have to watch the screen every day. It will be for one week only and only one at a time per person. It is based on closing prices. Explanation of Fill/Kill: http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=11239102
22) If a company gets sold during the contest, all normal rules apply. See this post. http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=11259177
23) DIGIRULE: This is a rule that comes into play only at the very end of the contest and only if the championship is on the line. It is designed to prevent extremely small dollar trades from affecting the outcome.
24) The deadline for all transactions is the market close on Friday, April 10th (two weeks before the end of the contest). A freeze (no longer a transaction) can be made up to the last day.
EARNINGS REQUIREMENT: To qualify, a stock (other than the wild card) must meet VMC earnings rules which are explained in the IBox on the VMC board http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=3251 Essentially, it means that a stock must report** quarterly for at least a year or as long as it has been public. No exceptions. Secondly, the company must have earnings in the most recent quarter - or if not, more earnings than losses in the most recent two quarters - or if not, more earnings than losses in the most recent three quarters - or if not, more earnings than losses in the most recent four quarters. In other words, there must be some interval of time (1, 2, 3 or 4 quarters) where the company has positive earnings.
