LMAO!!!! Nicely played!
No doubt Rick has taken a turn for the worse and was walking a slippery slope!
And Gregory is certainly a vile character.
YUCK!
He creeped me out.
Oddly - I don't get creeped out by Negan. How can I? It's Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
I think that was unfair of TWD! They could have at least found an uber creepy actor to play that part!!! Made it easier to hate him.
Do watch Fear the Walking Dead?
Gregory was facing extortion from Negan (supposedly). Lets remember, Gregory is a douchebag. Gregory didn't even ask for Rick's help. Rick came in and offered to broker a deal, actually Maggie did because Rick knew he couldn't work with Gregory. So, Rick agreed to get rid of Negan merely to take his place. Had it been a one time thing then fine, but apparently it wasn't. It was taking Hilltops stuff for killing off the Satellite people.
So, to use your recap....
So Maggie meets with the smarmy Gregory. Jesus told Gregory that Alexandria’s food supply was “challenged” but knows they have a good arsenal. Greg is happy to help, but can’t give things away for free. He suggests they work at the Hilltop in exchange for supplies. One gets the feeling that Gregory expects sexual favors to be included in the “work,” and Maggie puts a stop to it. She wants to trade; he dismisses her. “We’re doing fine; are you?
The group heads outside, where they are met by Ethan and a couple of others Who had just come back from meeting with Negan. Negan said they were “light” on their delivery. They killed several members of the team,
They made a lot of demands and threats, and beat a 16-year-old kid to death because they needed to “understand.” Gregory, not great at confrontation, made a deal: half of everything they have goes to the Saviors. In return, the Saviors don’t attack the Hilltop.
Gregory is laying in his antique wood-carved bed like some monarch of yore. He wants to know why Maggie and her group think they can do what they couldn’t. He also doesn’t know if Craig is worth the trouble. He is weak and Gregory doesn’t think he wants him back.
Negan is expecting more and more supplies from them, and pretty soon they will have nothing left and the Saviors will attack. She wants to leave with half of everything they have or the deal is off.
" Mm.
This is good.
Mm, it is.
Jesus came through.
They all did.
And they're all gonna keep coming through.
I disagree in part. Yes Rick can be the thug but as we've seen from the past that he doesn't mind settling down after he's convinced that there is little chance of danger.
Rick is no settler. Here's a better example. Rick is the small time hood controlling the neighborhood until the big boys from New York come in and show them what being a big time mobster is all about.
They negotiated taking half of what Hilltop had as an offer for protection. The same exact thing Negan was doing. Rick was the big fish in the small pond. He was even cocky in the last episode with the first group when he asked if they wanted it to be the day they died. He went from being the hunter to the hunted.....and lost.
I see your point. But it wasn't just Gregory - Jesus was there, wasn't he? And we all gotta ask...
WWJD? ;)
Hilltop knew Negan was bad, Alexandria knew Negan was bad, and Hilltop knew that was Negan's place, and
Lets not forget the way that Negan sent back one of Gregory's own guys and had him Knife Gregory right in front of our group of guys/gals.
Game on.
Were we watching the same show?
Lets recap! Woohoo!
http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/reviews/661563-the-walking-dead-episode-611-recap-team-rick-visits-the-hilltop
I see Rick's group existing as both aggressors and settlers depending on the situation. It's a cruel world out there and I believe for the most part that they want to be part of a community that works towards the greater good of all.
Think about their time at the prison. Began farming getting comfortable. Then had to fend off the governor and his crowd.
Then the trek to Terminus looking for safety ,,, that didn't work out well for them.
Alexandria seemed to give them reason the be a part of a society again but then the Wolves came to visit.
Hilltop offered a means to barter for food but what Rick's crew had to offer was something the folks at Hilltop were unable to provide for themselves.
Now we have Negan and the Saviors completely in control of all groups and not appearing to be the type that wants to do for themselves but to offer non violence in exchange for goods.
It'll be interesting to see what the horse people have to offer and to what side of the fence they lean .. Maybe both?
Let's hope Carol's pause to reflect doesn't hinder her future ability to defend herself or others. Also let's hope that Morgan has sense enough to realize that, although it's nice to think they there's good in everyone and that they can be convinced to come back from the dark side, there's just some evil in the world that can't be turned off or turned around.
Before what? Yes, Gregory (was that his name) told Rick about Negan, but for all Rick knew, Gregory could have been Negan. Rick took a group to kill another in their sleep, with no proof as to who they were.
I'm pretty sure Negan's name was brought up before hand plus he had no hesitation killing the one guy who said he was Negan.
To be fair, when Rick attacked the satellite station, they had no proof they were attacking Negan's people. They took the Hilltoppers word for it, and they're leader isn't the swellest of guys either.
They went in and killed a bunch of people in their sleep. Not exactly like they were being aggressive. Perhaps, almost everyone left falls under Negan's rule. Think Julius Caesar.
I thought Negan was being pretty fair with Rick's crew. Only killing one? And Rick has killed so many of his.
So, does Rick cower down and buckle under Negan's rule, or go back even more stubborn to get everyone killed? Again, reminds me of the feudal days, with one king and many lower end royals.
Now, who has Rick brought in? Originally he turned away Sasha and her brother. It was only after they took Rick's side vs the governor he brought anyone in. Even Abraham and his small group got in through someone before Rick, was it Glenn? Can't recall.
No, most of Rick's group now, were Alexandrians and Rick's original people. He stopped being open minded long ago.
He, without provocation, attacked Negan's people and killed them all.
Interesting discussion on Talking Dead about how, had the show been following Negan from the beginning, the TV audience would be rooting for him.
The way I see it, Rick is the bad guy. He, without provocation, attacked Negan's people and killed them all. His talk with Meshown was very similar to that of the Governor, which was, "we will go out and take what we need".
I rooted for Walter White and now I'm rooting for Rick? Not quite so sure about that.
Consider the decisions Rick has made and how many small groups over the years tried to join up with him, and he turned them all away. How many has Rick killed without remorse?
BTW, I don't see Carol as weak. I see her as tired. She didn't beg for the guy not to kill her. She goaded the guy TO kill her. She's tired of all the killing and misery. That's not a weakness, that's an acceptance.
The wait continues. Opinions will vary and change over the course of the next several months.
I do like the actor playing Negan and although his soliloquy was a bit long it added to the intensity of the situation and sort of defined the character.
Carol has gone from a sniveling whimp to a strong, unafraid person people to back to her old self. Morgan, it appears, has done the reverse, strong to pacifist to strong.
I somehow feel that these two plus the horsemen (no not the Rohan horsemen) will play a bigger role in next season. And what of Jesus .... what of Jesus????
HA! That didn't go over too well did it?
Lame episode. Boring actually.
I like this one.....
It was obvious from the camera angle it was AMC killing it's viewers.
The horse was clearly wearing sneakers.
Morgan also got over his "no kill" rule.
How about Morgan showing up on a horse out of nowhere?
The guy seemed fairly surprised, considering just a moment before he was facing the spot where Morgan appeared. He turned his back for one second, walked a few feet and then low and behold.... SURPRISE!!!! Morgan was already off of his horse and facing him pointing a gun.
Come on!
How did that horse suddenly learned how to tip toe? It had been clopping down the road attracting walkers right and left earlier.
Suddenly it can sneak up on people?
I want a horse like that! One that walks on air when need be!
Yeah, they seem pretty casual about death, until it's them.
Meanwhile, that guy with Carol made the classic bad guy mistake of talking too much rather than just killing her. I thought for sure he was going to drag over a walker to eat her.
He would make sense. Hate to see Red go, but taking one for the team is a noble death. LOL
Yeah, I watched Talking Dead. I thought they were careful about not giving anything away.
The smart thing would be to kill Abraham. You want to kill off the big tough looking guy who doesn't say much. Everyone knows that.
I thought Abraham as well for the same reason you stated.
A familiar precursor to death on the Walking Dead is stating how wonderful life is.
Daryl is a possibility based on Talking Dead which aired afterwards. There was an interaction between Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus where Morgan basically said it's a shame that he shows up and a character has to leave and Norman elbows him like Shucks! They are friends in real life.
I found it odd.
LOL
Of course I am. And I hate weak women! Especially weak women who became strong and then out of the blue reverted back to being weak because of a stupid story line a MAN wrote. ;)
Anyway, yeah, a bit of disappointment. Apparently Rick should have taken on the first group. Only 3 cars and 6 people. Ahhh, the good ol' days when Rick was cocky
I had some thoughts.
When Eugene took off in the RV, why didn't the rest circle through the woods and try to kill the guys on the other side of the woodpile?
How did they catch Eugene without killing him?
Depends on the rocket launcher, but if it's a LAW, it only fires once, then you chunk it.
Obviously, television would never show a woman getting beaten to death with a baseball bat, so you can subtract out the women.
I'd put even odds on Aaron since he's a minor character.
2-1 on Abraham due to his speech about how happy he was at the moment
20-1 on Carl due to taking the first son Biblical reference possibility
50-1 on Eugene because we've already come to grips with him getting killed anyway.
100-1 on Daryl for no reason at all.
The field is 6-1.
so, why is there no armor on this RV? It would have been so easy to pummel it with bullets and be done with it.
and why no battering ram on the front of it? If nothing else, it would be more airstreamed and save on gas.
The scene around the campfire reminded me of the movie Warriors. Some guys with bats, some with sticks, some with guns.
I am more intrigued with the armored guys on horses. I guess these are the white knights. Why isn't everyone wearing football gear to ward off bites?
My guess is, Carol has just had enough. She's ready to die. This world has drained her. Kind of the same philosophy of the Wolves actually.
All that stuck with me from your post is.......you're a woman?
Wow. I don't know what to think about the last episode.
I felt like I was watching Groundhogs day. The same thing over and over and over.
When did our crew become so incredibly stupid?
They didn't even bring the rocket launcher after already experiencing a road block prior?
The episode was disappointing. Horrible writing.
In 2 months I'm not going to care who died. Hell, I don't care now. Kill them all - lets start over! ;)
I was happy to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He plays bad, good. Excellent choice on "bad guys". Hard to hate him!
And what is up with Carol? Why did they turn her into this little weak, meek character. As a woman, I find that insulting. She might as well find another husband who she can cower around. I think she is pathetic. All whinny and wimpy. I hate it.
Wasn't Daryl shot? I would think he would bleed out. I don't recall him looking too bad. Come on walking dead!
The Kingdom guys on horses seem nice? Maybe they can go fetch our people BECAUSE their is no one else available to do so. They are all there.
Then again, Negan might let them go so they can work for him? Huh? Is that what I heard in his 10 minute boring speech before he let Lucille loose? SNORE!
Maybe this really is Groundhogs day and Carol saves the day again. She can be backed up by a preacher, a zen master and a hair dresser.
I can hardly wait.
I try to avoid researching the guys so I can be surprised, but they mentioned him on Talking Dead.
Apparently, according to the comic books, he's from a community called The Kingdom.
Yeah, seemed odd. He appeared, said something about them coming, then disappeared. Seems like by this time, living alone would make it hard to survive.
Yeah, that guy. Supposedly more about him in the future.
Guy looking for his horse? Did I miss something?
Supposedly, in the comic books, the guy looking for his horse becomes a main character, with an interesting pet of some sort.
Yep .... Lot of dumb moves:
- Daryl: let me put myself at risk and weaken the homefront
- Carol: let me run away and weaken the homefront
- Let's send 2 of our best people after Daryl
- Nope, make it 3 of our best people after Daryl
- Let's send 2 more of our best people after Carol who doesn't want to be there.
- Let's go traipsing through the countryside looking for Carol knowing full well that there are many unsavory people out there.
All of them left by choice, not circumstance. They were not lured away, or tricked, or even needed somewhere. They left because they had personal agendas that were more important than the group.
Whoever ever get's killed next week will be replaced with new charactors. Jesus is an interesting person.
Lots of stuff happening and lots of questions, and lots of dumb decisions made.
First off, why do they just stand around out in the woods or on rail tracks or wherever so often? Seems like every time they stop, someone shoots at them.
Why did everyone go off? First Daryl....so why send someone to bring him back? It's not the first time he has gone off.
Then Carol, who said specifically, "don't come after me"? Why send most of your people out if you need to guard the wall? Obviously they are doing an awful job!
First Carol just sneaks out and drives off in a car?
Then the other group seems to be spying on Alexandria. They know what the city is called? What the cars look like in front. So why were they only sending out five guys to attack? And why were the other guys still hanging around in the woods where Glen was captured?
And another thing, Rick told Meshown they were going to continue to get food from the other place. Is so, how are they any different than Negan?
And Daryl, why not just kill him?
Better to be lucky than dead!
Yep .... Didn't expect that. Is their a doctor in the house? I believe Hill Top has one. Hummmmmm, bartering ???
They seem way too lucky. So Daryl gets back his bike one week, and crossbow the next.
Also nice to see 'she' is back in the arms of the man who loves 'her'.
(The Cross Bow and Daryl 'love saga' continues. ;)
Yep. That was a bit of a surprise.
Well done, TWD!
Slaughter house ... Everything did seem to be semi easy to clean. They did move from the original building to there.
Seems as thought Rick's group does have the ability to go from good to bad quickly.
I think Gregory is somehow tied to Negan's group and that Jesus will either eventually replace Gregory at Hilltop or become a replacement for whoever in Rick's group get eliminated this season.
I think they were at a slaughter house. There was even a sign on the door.
It was obvious Carol decided to wound the guy and not kill him, however, in the end she was having second thoughts about that decision. I think Carol was having momentary bout of guilt and introspective. But I think it's gone now. She realized things would have gone better had she just killed him.
Meanwhile, the comment from the one woman, "you are not the good ones", was absolutely true. They aren't. They now show no difference between killing zombies vs killing living people. Has to make one wonder how civilization ever returns. What makes people good vs bad? Gregory certainly isn't good. Jesus might be. Who gets invited into Alexandria? Who becomes a trade partner? Who needs to be eliminated?
Not sure about Carol now. At first I thought she was playing the weak older woman but at the end it appears that she may be collapsing in on herself.
I did like how they used a walker to take out the old smoker even though she at least seemed to have a bit of compassion in her. Also liked how Carol and Maggie lured the scouting party in to the kill room.
My wife asked why a place would have a room called the kill room. I figure it's the place that Negan uses when administering his death sentence.
Yeah, but the problem with just growing food is, they are getting hit by every group who wants their food. So they didn't give it to Negan, but Rick took it instead. They aren't going to last with sticks.
As to killing the group at the satellite station. Could be Gregory is Negan's LT. and he wants to take over. They seemed to know Negan well. They seemed to know the grounds well. Rick and group became mercenaries and not any better than Negan. For the first time, they attacked a group without provocation. No better than what the Wolves did to them.
Also wonder why more groups don't use zombies as guard dogs. The group that had them all in the trucks and used music to round them up, were genius. Whatever happened to them?
Just seems like there are things not being thought of.
As to women, you'd also think you'd see plenty of women giving themselves in exchange for protection. Has happened for centuries.
Give that a try. If we don't hear from you a quite a while .... May you rest in peace!!
Weapons and ammo are finite commodities. I wouldn't feel warm and fuzzy trading away something that could come back to haunt me.
I thought the same thing concerning woman as a commodity. Maybe that happens in other groups which would be a form of slavery if the woman isn't a willing participant. Of course the guy in charge of Hilltop seems like he was thinking along those line and may have been on the receiving end of those trades in the past.
UGH!!!!!!
I think you just defined season 10? ;)
