Florida A&M's Shannon Washington dies

September 4, 2011 -- Florida A&M basketball player Shannon Washington died early Sunday morning after suffering a knife wound to her neck, the school announced.

Tallahassee Police responded to a report of a stabbing and found Washington in an apartment. She was treated at the scene by police and EMS and later died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, police said.

Starquineshia Palmer, 20, who was visiting Washington for the weekend, was detained and charged with first-degree murder, police reported.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Shannon's family and members of the Lady Rattlers Basketball Team," said Florida A&M president James H. Ammons. "For Shannon to be killed in the prime of her life is tragic and senseless. She had so much promise as a student athlete. This is a great loss for the university and our athletic program."

Washington, a shooting guard, was named an all-American in two seasons at Illinois Valley Community College before transferring to Florida A&M during the offseason.

"It is truly a trying situation to lose a student-athlete that has come to us to further her education and excel at her sport," said Florida A&M coach LeDawn Gibson. "As a coach, this is the kind of incident you just hope you never have to deal with -- the death of one of your players at such a young age."

Florida A&M will host a vigil for Washington on Sunday night.

To think I started out dead last, and finished 7th. Granted I was still negative but not by much. Also kind of how my year has gone relative to the market, I startred out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay underperforming and due to a good 2 month run where, I have been able to make a tiny bit of money while this market has been in freefall. Has made me go up 3.68% YTD, in a market that is down y/y. Hopefully the markets will turn this around, and make PSL 19 a little easier, as to finished 7th with a negative return considering the stock pickers we have here tells you all to know about the market. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.

Commentary: We have numerous indexes to present this contest. So without further ado let me give a brief explanation of them. The The Top 10 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 4 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 166 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 40 portfolios. These indexes or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).

Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 20 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 146 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 25 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like JBII.PK has 5 units because it was picked 5 times in the contest. Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Non Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 215 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like CNTF is weighted much more heavily and has 6 units because it was picked 6 times in the contest. VMC PSL 18 Indexes

Commentary: We have numerous indexes to present this contest. So without further ado let me give a brief explanation of them. The The Top 10 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 4 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 166 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 40 portfolios. These indexes or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).

Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 20 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 146 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 25 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like JBII.PK has 5 units because it was picked 5 times in the contest. Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Non Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 215 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like CNTF is weighted much more heavily and has 6 units because it was picked 6 times in the contest. Next, we get to the Average Portfolio (Original) the only difference between this index and the average portfolio return is it excludes the impact of transactions, meaning if no one could make transactions (Which is obviously not the case) this would be the average portfolio return. The Champions Index is basically and index that takes the average of the all the former PSL champions in PSL 18. Commentary: We have numerous indexes to present this contest. So without further ado let me give a brief explanation of them. The The Top 10 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 4 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 166 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 40 portfolios. These indexes or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).

Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 20 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 146 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 25 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like JBII.PK has 5 units because it was picked 5 times in the contest.
