Thanks! Good news.
Okay you now have your sub. Congrats on winning PSL 19. The best news is the sub will be given in future contests as well.
I'll pay for the PSL18 and PSL19 winners' subscriptions if there is any problem -- just let me know how.
I'm assuming len just forgot about this if he is even around? as I tried to PM him and I haven't heard back, and it seems like it has been weeks. Hopefully he is okay as I'm worried that it has taken this long to here back.
I don't know if PSL 18 and PSL 19 will get subs, definetly not 18, because it simply was too long ago to ask for one in my opinion, and i'm trying for 19, if this was brought to my attention sooner (Like before PSL 19 Started), I would of seen if I could of corrected it. I was assuming Len handled this, he always did before. Obviously I was wrong. Anyways I'm going to try to see if 19 can be fixed, and more importantly future contests. Hope This Helps.
And mine from PSL 18...
SSK, Just reminding you about the subscription prize :)
SSK, Any word on my IHUB subscription? Will there be a prize for PSL20? :)
Bout time!
By the way I was kidding....we DO have all year to wait....what's left of it. ;)
To improve, since a dead rodent outperformed the majority (by not investing) I'm looking forward to a contest that I think will occur during a better microcap market.
Figures my top two holdings in real life exploded only AFTER the contest ended....almost to the day lol ;)
VMC PSL 20
As promised. Deadline Jan 6th, Start of Contest Jan 9th. Here's the link to the board.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=23055
to improve. He can't do much worse? LOL.
At 39th out of 46, what's your rush?
We don't have all year. Hurry up, son.
I will that done by no later then tomorrow with an annoucement.
Is there a VMC PSL 20 board yet?
What's the entry deadline?
Researcher, Thanks. It's tough without spread padding :)
I was pretty lucky though. Came close to a couple of dumb moves, but managed to dodge the bullets.
To be honest I never handled the prizes stuff, I tried to get in touch with len about this (as he handled it in previous contests), so far I have been unsuccessful. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
Congrats also to Wade for the runner-up finish !
SSK: thanks as usual for all the work put in and also congrats on a very respectable 3rd place finish !
niles: congrats ! It's refreshing to see a winner who actually picked very liquid stocks. That makes your victory all the more impressive. Your return could have been replicated with real and substantial trades !
SSKILLZ1.. Just to clarify, was there a prize of a premium IHUB subscription for winning the contest (the way there used to be)?
Thanks again for your efforts.

Fantastic win! Well done in a bizitch of a market. Can't wait to see your 2012 picks!
Congrats on a great contest, niles
Very impressive to land on top with large(r) cap selections!
As always, thanks to SSK as well for handling numbers...
Congrats on the win! I thought I might make a run at you but it sputtered with the market.
I think you are right on with your reasons for success, the microcaps took a beating.
See ya next time
fred
Just wondered.. Any idea of what the spreads were on the top two picks? Did they start at the ask?

Thanks Kozuh, I'm in Jersey though.
I took a similar approach in BTHB with IBD stocks mixed with FTK and a couple of others, but got really hurt by subsequent trades for microcaps. I think I traded something like LULU for API around 2.20 (now around .75), and got into FKWL and CNTF later on. The only really bad large cap pick was Netflix, and if I just traded out of it for AAPL or GOOG, I think I'd have a shot at +30%+ instead of -22%.

Yes spin and ANLY come to mind as decision that cost me in this contest, and In my real portfolio. I did finish 3rd in both PSL 19 and BTHB 11. So I apparently liked 3rd place.
SSKILLZ, questions... Am I supposed to write up an official spiel the way the winners used to? Also, do I get a free IHUB premium subscription again?
Thanks SSKILLZ1 and thanks for another great job running the thing.
Thanks to all for your congratulations. It was a fun contest with KIK leading out the gates. He got a little cute with leveraged trades and gave us all a chance. Bucfan had a strong run and was in there until the end. Wade was maneuvering "low PE going forward" earnings plays quite well and would have won if not for a couple of moves at the end that backfired. You traded out of some positions that might have won it for you as well.
As you can see from my picks, I took a fairly conservative approach with 4 large caps (AAPL, ULTA, AH, ALXN) and two mid caps (FTK, HS).
Excluding those that picked wild cards, I would guess that my picks had the highest PE (forward or backward) of any contestant. The large caps were all on the top 10 of the IBD-Top 50 list with "EPS ranks" of 99. The three large caps other than Apple, had PE's over 50, and FTK had an even higher one. HS had a strong quarter which may have attracted some interest after its' summer decline from 45 to 30, but was around 35 with some negative vibes for the sector.
For the most part, my trades didn't help. I switched from ULTA (at its' low -10%) for HITK. The latter had a nice run in the latter weeks, but reported earnings a week too soon, and plunged from 44 to 38 last Monday despite beating expectations by something like $1.04 vs .78. I almost traded it for ANLY on Friday with a BT2, but didn't.
Anyway, the large caps mostly had modest gains, with AH at -3% as the only negative. HS was bought out mid-contest at about a 55% premium. FTK ran all quarter for a 75% gain. I attempted to use the HS leverage on a microcap, CXM, missed taking gains, but froze out before an eventual loss. I moved it into AGM at 16.3, mostly as a defensive maneuver, so I could sleep at night.
Anyway, for this contest large caps and high PE won out :)
koz: I have no idea who Albert Pujols is? Was he a PSL19 contestant?
Congrats Niles! Thanks Sskillz!
First time I followed one fron beginning to end. Thanks SS, interesting.

SSKILLZ1: Thank you for another good contest. I appreciate your hard work. I cannot believe it is over. Time flies when U are having fun!
Congratulations NilesCrane3. Good job. Congratulations to the other top finishers.
Congrats to NILES CRANE3 as he is the winner of PSL 19. He is now a two time winner. This contest is the lowest % up anyone has ever winned with in any PSL Contest. The Previous Lowest was also done by none other then Niles Crane3 in PSL 6 where we was up 35.69% and won. I found that stat kind of interesting. Once again congrats to Niles Crane3.
We will be looking foward to PSL 20 in the new year. Hard to believe we are up to 20. Wow. The start of PSL 20 will be a deadline of Jan 6th, with the contest starting jan 9th. Hope This Helps.

VMC PSL 19 Indexes
Commentary: We have numerous indexes to present this contest. So without further ado let me give a brief explanation of them. The The Top 12 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 4 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 169 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 44 portfolios. These indexes
or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).
Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 21 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 148 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 29 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like JBII.PK has 6 units because it was picked 6 times in the contest. Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Non Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 235 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stocks only have 1 unit, but a stock like MMT.V is weighted much more heavily and has 11 units because it was picked 11 times in the contest. Next, we get to the Average Portfolio (Original) the only difference between this index and the average portfolio return is it excludes the impact of transactions, meaning if no one could make transactions (Which is obviously not the case) this would be the average portfolio return. The Champions Index is basically and index that takes the average of the all the former PSL champions in PSL 19. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Hope you enjoy the info.
