Tesla stops deadly self-driving crash lawsuit from trial as Canada bans Level 3 vehicle autonomy
Tesla is now trying to prevent its Autopilot secrets and issues from spilling out in the open, while British Columbia bans higher levels of autonomous driving.
Drivers in the Canadian province of British Columbia will not only be fined if they use the still rare Level 3 autonomous driving systems, but they can't even drive cars that have them as a feature.
Despite that Level 3 autonomous vehicles still require the driver to be alert and ready to override the system, they can take decisions to pass a slow vehicle on their own, for instance.
This is why the new Motor Vehicle Act in British Columbia has now banned any Level 3-5 autonomous driving systems on the province's roads unless explicitly authorized.
Tesla is smart enough to classify its free Autopilot and paid Full Self-Driving (Supervised) features as Level 2 systems to escape such regulatory scrutiny before the imminent FSD launch in Canada.
It is also smart enough to prevent the inner workings of those systems, and the data it has on them, from spilling out in the open for everyone to pick apart. Instead of allowing a deadly Autopilot crash lawsuit to reach trial stage, Tesla just settled for an undisclosed amount.
however, assigned equal blame to Tesla for overhyping the capabilities of its driver-assist system, and to the California highway authority that had failed to fix the barrier where Huang crashed, leaving it damaged from a previous accident.
In any case, the family countered, in 2018 when the deadly crash happened, there weren't nearly as many or as detailed warnings and classifications about the use of Tesla's driver-assist systems as there are now.
Instead of going to trial on the matter, Tesla preferred to settle with the relatives and avoid opening statements and cross-examinations, which could serve as a precedent in other such trials, or for regulatory bodies that are investigating such incidents.
While Tesla says in the fine print that you shouldn’t use its self-driving without oversight, the novelty upon which it’s sold implies that you can. “There’s so many incentives toward bullshit, right?” he says, “toward overclaiming what your technology can do.”
Agency probes Philadelphia fatal crash involving Ford that may have been running on automated system
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a March crash near Philadelphia that killed two people and involved a Ford electric vehicle that may have been operating on a partially automated driving system.
A Mustang Mach E sport utility vehicle hit two stationary passenger cars on Interstate 95 at 3:19 a.m. March 3, the agency said. Both drivers of the stationary cars were killed, and one may have been outside of their vehicle.
In a posting Wednesday on the social platform X, the agency said it will coordinate with the Pennsylvania State Police in the probe. The Mach E hit a parked Toyota Prius and rammed it into a Hyundai Elantra, the agency said.
Ford said in a statement that it was told of the Philadelphia crash by the NTSB, and the company informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"We are researching the events of March 3 and collaborating fully with both agencies to understand the facts," the company said Wednesday.
The crash is the second this year involving a Mach E that the NTSB has sent a team to investigate. The first crash occurred on Feb. 24 along Interstate 10 in San Antonio, Texas.
It was learned that a speeding Tesla crashed into a fire hydrant at Macarthur Boulevard and Grant Lane Road in Tracy at 9.45pm on Friday night, then crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Behind their car, their other friends were coming in another car, who tried hard to save their friends, but the car got locked and they could not do anything because of the flames.
I'm begging all of you to NEVER get in a Tesla as long as you live. It started accelerating on its own in a parking garage and my dad lost all control of the car and we ran into a wall at 40 mph. Most horrifying experience of my life.

EV Fender Bender Three-Way Tesla Crash Goes Down ... Only in Los Angeles, Huh?!?
The most L.A. car crash you could imagine went down in La La Land this week -- with three electric vehicles touching tips on the road ... and yes, they're all Elon's creations.
Check out these pics taken from a crash scene in Bev Hills Wednesday -- where a 3-way Tesla pile-up occurred at the intersection of Rexford Drive and Beverly Drive, and it looks like there were a few different models in the mix, not to mention varying degrees of damage.

This is GREAT NEWS for stocks in general and for TSLA stock in particular.
Good luck and GOD bless,
I remain a skeptic and not in the bullish camp at this time.
Unfortunately, feeling optimistic and wishing a bullish trend even though good, it is not good enough to move share prices.
That could only be achieved by increasing demand and traders buying and dominating the trading dynamic in the market. That is what matters.
I will turn bullish based on evidence that the Dailies are in Uptrend, then the Weekly confirmation of the change to a new Uptrend. GLTA
Failed to breakout with volume so the pattern is still in play; lower lows and lower highs. Currently sitting around resistance. I see little to be bullish about in regards to Tesla to justify a breakout but narrative over reality is everything in our society.

Anyone been in a self driving tesla

TMaga: i AM a fan-boy and proud of it. You, on the other hand, ….bought a POS called a Tesla Model S
and after the warranty was finished, the repair costs were astronomical and there were many of them.
Back to my Lexus and proud of it.
Not to mention the insurance for a Tesla is at least 50% higher than other cars due to the costs to repair them if in an accident or a battery fire. There goes your so called gas savings.
Thanks JJ8. I look forward to adding value to these boards.
Conway Twitty,
Glad to see you here. Welcome to the board.
I hope your participation in analysis, exchange of viewpoints and insights on Tesla will be mutually beneficial to most participants.

Tesla's products are light years ahead of the competition and will remain so for years or even decades. EV's are the future and Tesla is the domestic EV leader. There will be ups and downs, but certainly more ups in the future.
Yes, the stock is doing poorly right now. As a long, I don't care. I am sure where this will be 5 years from now. The cars are fantastic. I have had a model Y now for almost 2 years and it is the best car by far I have ever owned. I will never buy ICE again.
While Tesla says in the fine print that you shouldn’t use its self-driving without oversight, the novelty upon which it’s sold implies that you can. “There’s so many incentives toward bullshit, right?” he says, “toward overclaiming what your technology can do.”
it was arguably a referendum on “fake it till you make it” practices, such as intentionally overstating, and thereby misrepresenting, a fledgling company’s current capabilities, success, or profitability, while banking on the notion that its aspirations will eventually follow the desired trajectory and become a reality.
Tesla settled its Autopilot crash lawsuit. That’s bad news for understanding the tech
A yearslong case around Tesla’s driver-assistance software was, for now at least, put to bed: Tesla settled a lawsuit this week that said the automakers’ autopilot features were responsible for the March 2018 death of Wei “Walter” Huang. Tesla also filed a document with the California court requesting that it seal the terms of a settlement the company appears to have agreed upon with Huang’s family.
All of which means that, while the Huang family will be compensated for their loss, we won’t learn in more detail, through discovery, or anything else what actually went on—with the case.
The cause of Huang’s death was disputed: the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), following an extensive investigation, found that both Autopilot and distracted driving were factors in the crash. Tesla argued that Huang’s death was because he was distracted playing a game; Huang’s family believed otherwise, suing Tesla for wrongful death. (Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)
The case, and its last-minute settlement, seems to suggest that there’s a growing recognition that so-called banana launches, wherein the product “ripens” or improves with customer use, should not be used in safety systems for self-driving vehicles, says Matthias Schmidt, an independent automotive analyst in Berlin. “It sets a precedent,” he says, that with safety systems “where the product doesn’t work correctly, and if it goes wrong, it can result in death.”
In all, 500 people have died while behind the wheel of a Tesla or because of an accident involving a Tesla, according to TeslaDeaths.com, a website that tracks incidents with the electric vehicle manufacturer’s products. Of those 500, 42 are linked to Autopilot, an advanced driver-assistance system the company promotes. Huang’s death occurred nearly 19 minutes after he’d engaged the Autopilot tool; his Model X hit the concrete median at 71 miles per hour.
hat approach more broadly across technology is what Madeleine Elish coined the “moral crumple zone” in 2019: that technology isn’t at fault so much as the humans who get in the way. “It’s so easy to blame the human fleshy part of the system rather than hold to account the people making new stuff,” says Jack Stilgoe, an associate professor at University College London who studies autonomous vehicles.
With Teslas financials coming out the 24th i could see a run to up to the 230 (33% gain) area before it falls again once people see Teslas financial situation. Teslas fixed costs are going to take a bite out of its cash flow but ive seen indication itll get to beef up its revenue by recognizing FSD revenue its been differing. Revenue it shouldnt be allowed to recognize as its having to refund customers, with interest and legal costs, in the UK over false promises to deliver true self driving software they paid for years ago without actually delivering it in the timeframe promised.
Im not indicating this is a change from the longerterm downtrend, just indicating a possible shortterm burst before Q1 financials.
TMaga: i AM a fan-boy and proud of it. You, on the other hand, ….
What is strange about this BREAKOUT is the fact that the chart still in Dailies and Weeklies, BOTH yet remain in DOWNTREND simultaneously!!!!
Unless I see them change too soon, I still remain a skeptic about this BREAKOUT.
Could it be a FAKEOUT? However, being an optimist, I feel positive even before we have a confirmation.
I am expecting a clearer message one way or another... in the next or two sessions of trading. Who will be the dominating group, the Demand or Supply? Only the trading dynamic can demonstrate the details who is dominating it.
Interesting and exciting times... only for special savvy folks who know well the Science and Art of Technical Analysis.
Looking forward to what the near future may unfold...
Cheers & GLTA

Wrong-Way 10 Freeway Crash Kills Teen, Injures 3 Others: CHP
LOS ANGELES, CA — A woman driving a 2024 Tesla was arrested for allegedly driving the wrong way on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway Sunday and triggering a crash that killed a motorist and left her and two others with major injuries.
The woman, a 51-year-old Los Angeles resident, suffered major injuries in the 1:50 a.m. Sunday crash on the westbound freeway at Overland Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 19-year-old man driving a 2016 Toyota was trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
He was identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Jefferson Coreas- Lazo. He and his two occupants, a 13-year-boy and a 15-year-old girl, suffered major injuries. They are residents of Maywood, according to the CHP.
The Tesla was eastbound in the westbound lanes and struck the Toyota head-on, according to the CHP.

NC 2024 Tesla Kills One in Wrong-Way Head-on Crash
There has been an alarming increase in Tesla driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic. Just in past few days two brand new 2024 Tesla have killed people early in the morning. The Asheville Police Department said a driver is dead after going the wrong way on the interstate and crashing early Sunday morning at 2:33 a.m..
Tesla was heading east in the wrong direction on I-40 west and collided into a Freightliner truck that was traveling westbound.
The driver of the Tesla, identified as 26-year-old Andrew Dean Justiniano, passed away on scene from his injuries, according to police.
This crash, near mile marker 54 on Interstate 40, is especially concerning. The I-40 is divided by a huge median and guard rails on both sides for very long stretches.
Furthermore, the on-ramps are huge “clovers” to keep traffic isolated. So how and where exactly did this killer robot fresh off the factory line decide to enter the wrong-way?
The precise mile marker proves Tesla operated its robot at full speed head on into oncoming traffic for many, many miles of a fully divided Interstate without registering it was on the wrong side.

Theres a reason why all the major automakers are abandoning EVs and moving to hybrids. EVs are turning out to be simply too risky. At least the major automakers had the decency to recall their cars due to the issues with their batteries catching fire. Tesla has experienced more fires than any of them but they havent mass recalled their vehicles as they should have. If Tesla did that it'd kill the industry and Tesla. “We think self-driving tech that’s fully separated from humans is very, very far away, and basically impossible,” Li Yunfei, a spokesperson for BYD, said in Mandarin, translated by CNBC.
Apple abandoned autonomous project for the same reason...its just too risky in our current environment and is "probably a false proposition"
BYD thoughts of Self driving technology
“When we think about [self-driving tech] from all aspects, from human psychological safety needs, from ethics, from regulation, from technology — including application in this industry — we haven’t figured out [the logic] and we think it is probably a false proposition,” Li told reporters on the sidelines of the Shanghai auto show on Tuesday.
“There may be many industries and businesses that invest a lot of money on this [tech], and after investing for many years it will prove it leads nowhere,” he said.

Stop with that BS. Elons purchase of Twitter is not why Tesla and greater EV market are experiencing problems they are, thats just being used as cover. Its the fact that the technology is dangerous in our current environment. EVs go out of control driving people to their death as what happened with Mitch McConnell's sister in law Ms Chao. They spontaneously combust even while being driven (im referring to batteries). They experience enhanced rusting and spontaneous fracturing of metal components due to the Hutchison Effect. Lastly they expose users to a great deal of EM radiation causing a whole host of physiological problems. For visualization of this consider the movie Johnny Mnueomic. Not that this is caused by EVs exclusively, but due to the position of where the EM radiation is coming from it'll increase infertility, colon cancers, birth deformities and likely SIDS, just to name a few problems that will likely increase in EVs.

A lot of haters and Bears in here. I've been trying to follow EVs now for a bit and probably just before Elon messed up and went for Twitter. I invested across the board in EV and EV related, so I could at least get my tax money that was being given to the EV community, back. BUT, and NOBODY seems to talk about this, since Elon spoke the words, buy Twitter, Tesla has been a target and therefore the EV community as a whole. Those that Elon provided Teslas for, immediately turned on Tesla and hence other EVs, because most other EV was below Tesla. I have watched and read the news related to Tesla since and they are relentless on how much Tesla sucks.... SINCE Twitter. This WAS their darling.

Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His father was a priest in the Serbian Orthodox church
and his mother managed the family’s farm. In 1863 Tesla’s brother Daniel was killed in a riding accident.
The shock of the loss unsettled the 7-year-old Tesla, who reported seeing visions—the first signs of his lifelong mental illnesses.

$TSLA, WOULD TSLA BUY FORD ?????
$TSLA, Exclusive: Bill Ford at Mustang Mach-E unveil admits being on Tesla’s turf
Bradley Berman
- Nov. 17th 2019 10:44 pm ET
Minutes after the official unveiling of the Ford Mustang Mach-E,
we jumped into the press scrum surrounding Bill Ford. Electrek asked Ford’s chairman, and Henry Ford’s great-grandson,
if he knew the introduction was taking place one block from Tesla’s design center.
“That’s a coincidence,” he said. And then he flashed a big smile.
Tesla Motors, Inc. (Tesla), incorporated on July 1, 2003, designs, develops, manufactures and sells electric vehicles and advanced electric vehicle powertrain components. Tesla owns its sales and service centers and Supercharger stations. In addition to the Company’s own vehicles, it designs, develops, manufactures, and sells advanced electric vehicle powertrain components to other automotive manufacturers. The Company has provided development services and powertrain components to Daimler AG (Daimler) for its Smart fortwo and A-Class electric vehicles. The Company developed stationary energy storage products for use in homes, commercial sites, and utilities. The Company offers financial products through various financial institutions in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers in Silicon Valley who wanted to prove that electric cars could be better than gasoline-powered cars. With instant torque, incredible power, and zero emissions, Tesla’s products would be cars without compromise. Each new generation would be increasingly affordable, helping the company work towards its mission: to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transport.
Tesla’s engineers first designed a powertrain for a sports car built around an AC induction motor, patented in 1888 by Nikola Tesla, the inventor who inspired the company’s name. The resulting Tesla Roadster was launched in 2008. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and achieving a range of 245 miles per charge of its lithium ion battery, the Roadster set a new standard for electric mobility. Tesla would sell more than 2,400 Roadsters, now on the road in more than 30 countries.
In 2012, Tesla launched Model S, the world’s first premium electric sedan. Built from the ground up to be 100 percent electric, Model S has redefined the very concept of a four-door car. With room for seven passengers and more than 64 cubic feet of storage, Model S provides the comfort and utility of a family sedan while achieving the acceleration of a sports car: 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds. Its flat battery pack is integrated into the chassis and sits below the occupant cabin, lending the car a low center of gravity that enables outstanding road holding and handling while driving 265 miles per charge. Model S was named Motor Trend’s 2013 Car of the Year and achieved a 5-star safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In late 2014, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled two dual motor all-wheel drive configurations of Model S that further improve the vehicle’s handling and performance. The 85D features a high efficiency motor at the front and rear, giving the car unparalleled control of traction in all conditions. The P85D pairs a high efficiency front motor with a performance rear motor for supercar acceleration, achieving a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.2 seconds – the fastest four-door production car ever made.
Now with more than 50,000 vehicles on the road worldwide, Tesla is preparing to launch Model X, a crossover vehicle that enters volume production in 2015. Featuring exhilarating acceleration, falcon wing doors, and room for three rows of seating, Model X defies categorization.
Tesla owners enjoy the benefit of charging at home so they never have to visit a gas station or spend a cent on gasoline. For long distance journeys, Tesla’s Supercharger network provides convenient and free access to high speed charging, replenishing half a charge in as little as 20 minutes. Superchargers now connect popular routes in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Tesla’s vehicles are produced at its factory in Fremont, California, previously home to New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors. The Tesla Factory has returned thousands of jobs to the area and is capable of producing 1,000 cars a week.
The company is expanding its manufacturing footprint into other areas, including in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where it has an assembly facility, and Lathrop, California, where it has a specialized production plant. To reduce the costs of lithium ion battery packs, Tesla and key strategic partners including Panasonic have begun construction of a gigafactory in Nevada that will facilitate the production of a mass-market affordable vehicle, Model 3. By 2020, the gigafactory will produce more lithium ion cells than all of the world’s combined output in 2013. The gigafactory will also produce battery packs intended for use in stationary storage, helping to improve robustness of the electrical grid, reduce energy costs for businesses and residences, and provide a backup supply of power.
Tesla is not just an automaker, but also a technology and design company with a focus on energy innovation.
