Tesla Megapack battery project proposed on Mount Sinai
"...A battery energy storage system (BESS) backed by Tesla Megapacks was proposed in Mount Sinai in Egypt this week, though some people from the local community have expressed opposition to the proposal.
Earlier this month, New Leaf Energy proposed an 80 MWh battery project on Mount Sinai to the Mount Sinai Civic Association, featuring 24 Tesla Megapacks or enough to power 16,000 homes, as reported by TBR News Media over the weekend...."
Faulty battery link to storage unit fire - report'
A large fire at a storage unit in Surrey was probably caused by a faulty battery, a report has said.
The blaze in May 2023 at Access Self Storage, in Byfleet, caused plumes of smoke to be visible for miles.
A heavily redacted report by the South East Fire Investigation Group into the incident said the investigation had concluded "that the most probable cause of fire was a defective lithium-ion cell" in a unit on the second floor.
Access Self Storage said its insurers had processed 80% of claim forms received and settled 73%.
'Spread rapidly'
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said it could not comment on the report due to "potential" legal cases.
The report - which has been seen by the BBC - said the defective cell may have caused a "thermal runaway", which spread to other lithium-ion batteries in one of the units.
A thermal runaway is an accelerating increase in temperature caused by chemical reactions which can "lead to fire, explosion... and unpredictable fire behaviour," according to the National Fire Chiefs Council.
The South East Fire Investigation Group report concluded that the fire had "spread rapidly" to "combustible materials" within the same unit before spreading to other units.

Lithium battery fire burns through roof of storage facility; evacuation orders in place
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — After several days of burning and reigniting, a fire at a battery storage facility in Otay Mesa increased in intensity overnight Friday, damaging the building and leading to evacuation orders, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) said in an update Saturday.
The fire began Wednesday in building No. 3 at the Gateway Energy Storage facility in the 600 block of Paseo de la Fuente in Otay Mesa, which contains lithium-ion batteries. The fire has since reignited twice, with the latest blaze finally damaging the structure.
Firefighters say they were able to keep the fire contained to the inside of the building through their latest update Friday night. That changed overnight.
Cal Fire reported Saturday morning that fire activity increased overnight as the lithium-ion batteries continued to experience thermal runaway. The fire extended into the building components and burned through part of the storage facility’s roof.
Firefighters are still actively working to fight the fire three days after the initial call, fighting the fire from the air using aerial master streams, along with using unmanned portable monitors.
HAZMAT teams were also called in as the fire involved lithium-ion batteries.

Similar accident Wednesday May 15th. Tesla zips in behind a truck in a straight angled path before driving through railing into a house.
2 Adults and 1 toddler in the car so as i said, it not likely they were purposefully speeding indicating possible SUA. Accident occurred around 10:20am. Notice the straight path this Tesla took. The path however was angled from the T intersection. Normally when drunk drivers dont realize this is a T intersection they drive straight into the raid guard. However thats not what this Tesla did as you can see. 45 degree split? Really bizarre how many Teslas do this.

Here's screenshots from the recent Tesla crash along with source video. Did this Tesla suffer Whompy Wheel before it flew out of control? Media does not talk about the sparks that fly along with the Tesla indicating some sort of metal had scraped. What exactly sent it flying? Usually Teslas that hit curbs in of itself, do not fly like this one did.

BYD Showroom Burns to the Ground After One Electric Car Bursts Into Flames
However, one car brand recorded more EV fires than others, at least judging by the number of fire reports over the past years. I'm talking about BYD, Tesla's main rival, partner, and one of the biggest Li-ion battery manufacturers. Many such fires happened in 2021 and 2022, and the carmaker appeared to have solved its quality problems in the past years. However, another fire erupted on Thursday in a BYD showroom in Fuzhou, the capital of the Chinese province Fujian.
According to the Fuzhou Fire Department, the fire started from an electric vehicle parked inside the showroom. A video shared on Chinese social media showed a massive fire engulfing the showroom. Fortunately, nobody was injured during the incident, although 29 firefighters with seven fire trucks fought the blaze for almost an hour. Judging by a video showing the charred remains of the showroom, the fight was unsuccessful. The entire showroom building was burnt to the ground, together with the vehicles inside.
Electric vehicles have a bad reputation when it comes to vehicle fires despite the fact they are far less likely to catch fire than gas-powered vehicles. Statistics revealed that EV fires are about ten times fewer than those affecting combustion vehicles. Bizarrely, hybrid cars are the most likely to catch fire, even when compared to purely ICE cars.

A car, carrying two adults and one toddler, crashed into a home in Burbank Wednesday, taking out a steel railing and a portion of the house.
The collision happened at 10:15 a.m. when a dark Tesla slammed into the home’s attached garage.
While the three people inside the car did not have life-threatening injuries, the intersection of Vanowen and Buena Vista Streets near the damaged home has always been prone to accidents and collisions, neighbors said.

This in two parts. First is a hypothesis from the 1990s that believed that SIDS was connected to EMF (electromagnetic fields). Second is a recent study that indicates seizure activity in toddlers before SUDC (SIDS for children). Consider for a moment a sleeping infant or toddler in an EV. The constant EMF exposure could potentially lead to seizure and death while the child is asleep in their carseat. I just added a study indicating that 3% of SIDS occurs in a sitting device with 63% of those being in a carseat and 51% of those in the home. Id watch for an increase in SIDS/SUDC in relation to EV exposure. If such an infant with a functional disturbance of the control organ is then exposed to a GMF or EMF with pulsations similar to his own breathing frequency, but inverted in phase, value, form etc then the vital nerve impulses from the respiration control organ to the breathing organs may be disturbed or blocked with fatal effect. The study findings come from a registry of more than 300 SUDC cases, set up a decade ago by researchers at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Researchers used extensive medical record analysis and video evidence donated by families to document the inexplicable deaths of seven toddlers between the ages of 1 and 3 that were potentially attributable to seizures. These seizures lasted less than 60 seconds and occurred within 30 minutes immediately prior to each child’s death, say the study authors. Of deaths in sitting devices, 62.9% were in CSSs, and in these cases, the CSS was used as directed in <10%. Among all sitting-device deaths, 81.9% had =1 risk factor, and 54.9% had =2 risk factors. More than half (51.6%) of deaths in CSSs were at the child’s home.
Magnetic influences on fetus and infant as reason for sudden infant death syndrome: a new testable hypothesis
Combining the hypthesis with the study suggest that the EMF exposure is causing seizures in the infants and children before they die in their sleep. Not just any EMF exposure but potentially the right frequencies that then interfere with nerve impulses. If frequency is a major player here then that means each individual would likely be susceptible to different frequencies making it harder to define which EM frequencies cause the most problems for the overall population. Blanket studies may not work when trying to better understand why EMF seems to cause problems for some and not others.
CSS = Car safety seats. This suggests mosts of the deaths occurred in the home and not in the car. Itd be interesting if these statistics shift more toward the vehicle in EVs/hybrids.

Ear pain/Pressure help
We have had our model Y since June. Had a number of issues that have been fixed including misaligned trim, the back seat noise, loose amplifier, and a rock chip. One weird thing that the SC couldn't help with is ear pain my wife and I both have when in the car. Nobody there could experience it. I have a 3 and had an S before with no issues.
Our data indicate that tinnitus is associated with subjective electromagnetic hypersensitivity. An individual vulnerability probably due to an over activated cortical distress network seems to be responsible for, both, electromagnetic hypersensitivity and tinnitus. Hence, therapeutic efforts should focus on treatment strategies (e.g. cognitive behavioral therapy) aiming at normalizing this dysfunctional distress network.
Precautionary Measures: For individuals still concerned about EMFs and RF radiation from EVs, here are a few precautionary measures to consider.
Limit Time in Stationary Cars: Reduce the amount of time spent in the car when it is not moving.
Ensure Proper Ventilation: Keep the car well-ventilated to help mitigate any potential, albeit minimal, exposure to EMFs and RF radiation.
These steps can help alleviate concerns, even though the levels of radiation emitted by EVs are generally considered safe by current scientific standards.
Fire at Port of Oakland Extinguished, Originating in Lithium Battery Storage Facility
The Port of Oakland was shrouded in a blanket of dark smoke after a fire broke out Sunday afternoon, sending alarm through the Bay Area community. Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers in Silicon Valley who wanted to prove that electric cars could be better than gasoline-powered cars. Tesla’s engineers first designed a powertrain for a sports car built around an AC induction motor, patented in 1888 by Nikola Tesla, the inventor who inspired the company’s name. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and achieving a range of 245 miles per charge of its lithium ion battery, the Roadster set a new standard for electric mobility. In 2012, Tesla launched Model S, the world’s first premium electric sedan. Built from the ground up to be 100 percent electric, Model S has redefined the very concept of a four-door car. With room for seven passengers and more than 64 cubic feet of storage, Model S provides the comfort and utility of a family sedan while achieving the acceleration of a sports car: 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds. Its flat battery pack is integrated into the chassis and sits below the occupant cabin, lending the car a low center of gravity that enables outstanding road holding and handling while driving 265 miles per charge. Model S was named Motor Trend’s 2013 Car of the Year and achieved a 5-star safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In late 2014, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled two dual motor all-wheel drive configurations of Model S that further improve the vehicle’s handling and performance. The 85D features a high efficiency motor at the front and rear, giving the car unparalleled control of traction in all conditions. The P85D pairs a high efficiency front motor with a performance rear motor for supercar acceleration, achieving a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.2 seconds – the fastest four-door production car ever made.
Now with more than 50,000 vehicles on the road worldwide, Tesla is preparing to launch Model X, a crossover vehicle that enters volume production in 2015. Featuring exhilarating acceleration, falcon wing doors, and room for three rows of seating, Model X defies categorization.
Tesla owners enjoy the benefit of charging at home so they never have to visit a gas station or spend a cent on gasoline. For long distance journeys, Tesla’s Supercharger network provides convenient and free access to high speed charging, replenishing half a charge in as little as 20 minutes. Superchargers now connect popular routes in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Tesla’s vehicles are produced at its factory in Fremont, California, previously home to New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors. The Tesla Factory has returned thousands of jobs to the area and is capable of producing 1,000 cars a week.
The company is expanding its manufacturing footprint into other areas, including in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where it has an assembly facility, and Lathrop, California, where it has a specialized production plant. To reduce the costs of lithium ion battery packs, Tesla and key strategic partners including Panasonic have begun construction of a gigafactory in Nevada that will facilitate the production of a mass-market affordable vehicle, Model 3. By 2020, the gigafactory will produce more lithium ion cells than all of the world’s combined output in 2013. The gigafactory will also produce battery packs intended for use in stationary storage, helping to improve robustness of the electrical grid, reduce energy costs for businesses and residences, and provide a backup supply of power.

The Tesla Roadster is an electric sports car. The Company sells and services its Tesla Roadster though its Company-owned sales and service network in the North America, Europe and Asia. It has delivered approximately 2,500 Tesla Roadsters to customers in over 30 countries. It completed the production of Tesla Roadster gliders at Lotus Cars Limited in January 2012.
Model S is a four door, five-passenger premium sedan. It has designed Model S to include a third row with two rear-facing child seats, subject to applicable safety regulations and requirements, allowing the Company to offer a seven passenger sedan.
The Company revealed an early prototype of the Model X crossover as the first vehicle that it intends to develop by leveraging the Model S platform. This vehicle has been designed to fill the niche between the roominess of a minivan and the style of an SUV, while having high performance features, such as a dual motor all-wheel drive system. Model X will seat seven adults. The Company anticipates that it would make Model X available with 60 kWh and 85 kWh battery pack options, with pricing of each version similar to those of a comparably equipped Model S.
The Company also has announced its intent to develop a third generation electric vehicle, to which it refers as Gen III, to be produced at the Tesla Factory.
In addition to the Company’s own vehicles, it designs, develops, manufactures, and sells advanced electric vehicle powertrain components to other automotive manufacturers. The Company has provided development services and full powertrain systems and components to Daimler AG for its Smart fortwo, A-Class, and B-Class electric vehicles. It has also developed an electric powertrain system for Toyota Motor Corporation for use in its RAV4 EV. As of December 31, 2013 the Company shipped approximately 1,600 units.
In 2013, the Company developed stationary energy storage products for use in homes, commercial sites, and utilities. The applications for these battery systems include backup power, peak demand reduction, demand response and wholesale electric market services. The Company intends to ramp sales of these products in 2014. In 2015, Tesla introduced the Powrball: Tesla Home Battery. Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, and powers your home in the evening. It also fortifies your home against power outages by providing a backup electricity supply. Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall offers independence from the utility grid and the security of an emergency backup. Powerball comes in 10kWh weekly cycle and 7kWh daily cycle models. Both are guaranteed for ten years and are sufficient to power most homes during peak evening hours. Multiple batteries may be installed together for homes with greater energy need, up to 90 kWh total for the 10 kWh battery and 63 kWh total for the 7 kWh battery.
The Company offers financial products through various financial institutions in the United States, Europe, and Asia. In the United States and Canada, it offers customer loans through specified commercial banking partners. In connection with certain of these loans, the Company offers a resale value guarantee to all customers who purchased a Model S and financed their vehicle.
