Quasi or Cush....
again another question......if I run a scan in stockcharts....and save it in the cvs format.....I make my changes in excel....how do I get my excel results back into a stockcharts watchlist
thanks again
Peace
TTL
Absolutely, stockcharts is great!
It is a hard thing to find, E-Trade might. Stockcharts is still awesome.
I don't reckon stockcharts lets you do intra-day scans.
Does this IWM:UDN chart mean anything?
When the dollar goes down, stocks go up. Here is a chart showing the ratio of Russell 2000 vs inverse dollar. A higher value means stocks went up more than the dollar went down.
Does this chart mean anything? It seems to show a triangle or a slightly-rising wedge, suggesting that stocks will soon go up more than the dollar goes down, which seems very bullish if the dollar rally ends soon. I've been expecting stocks to go down in June, but this suggests that they will go up. Am I reading too much into this chart?
I have not been too active writing scans as of late as a play mostly options and futures and I follow a select group of stocks or "basket' to be long or short on but here is one I will share as I occasionally play some "cheapies".......
It is for US Stocks under $5
[type = stock] and [country = us] and [daily sma(20,daily volume) > 100000] and [daily close <= 5] and [daily macd line(8,17,9) >= 0] and [daily macd line(8,17,9) crosses daily macd signal(8,17,9)]
The Message below describes the nuts and bolts of the scan and of course it can be tweeked a little to your liking, it is fairly reliable in finding some tradeable issues for a long position.
So you can tweek the daily close value or the country and even set a minimum such as greater than .20 or something which I may do myself.

RE: Hey Quasi & ChipA I got the message thanks, I will cut back to the 4 to 5 charts per message I was not aware of the restriction, You have my full cooperation guys.
RE: Tony_From_MI...
Tony, Please don't spoil the privilege of posting live charts from StockCharts for all of us. Please see your TOS violation message from StockCharts.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=63098682
thanks in advance for your co-operation.
Post this on my breaking news board and i will pin it till he stops or ihub takes action..
Nice board....didn't even know there was a stockcharts.com board.....
sdh
Thank you chip as I have never seen that before and will cut it back.
I have been on IHUb for years and never was aware of it and Guilty as charged as I do post six or eight sometimes.
I am pretty loyal to stockcharts and wonder if there is a way to scan technicals on an intraday basis like 2,15,30 and 60 minute time frames? Even one of those would help a lot. perhaps we can vote? I know EOD data is collected.. EOD but maybe you can slip in a 60 scan somehow at noon or twice a day on higher volume popular stocks.
iHub'bers, StockCharts.com needs your help.
Over the years we have allowed live versions of our charts to be added to iHub posts. The only restriction we've asked in return is that posters limit the number of live charts per message to 4 or fewer. (That restriction has been posted on our website and in the iBox of this board for years.)
Unfortunately, there is one iHub member that has continually ignored that policy for years. He has continually posted dozens of live charts in single messages despite our asking him not to. Those messages cause unnecessary load on our servers and violate our 4-charts-per-post policy. One way or another, those messages have to stop.
At this point we need all of iHub'bers who'd like to see StockCharts charts remain on iHub to do two things:
1.) Send a private message to "Tony_from_MI" and tell him to stop violating our posting policy. Maybe a full mailbox will get his attention.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/profile.aspx?user=31439
2.) Watch for other examples of this kind of abuse and inform the message poster of our policy.
The unfortunate reality is that we cannot continue to provide live charts on iHub is this kind of abuse continues, nor can we be the only ones watching out for it. We need help from all the iHub fans of StockCharts in order to continue providing this kind of free service to the iHub community.
Thanks for your help,
Chip Anderson

Thank you very much Quasi.
About this scan :
30 day consolidation scan, narrow range close within +/- 3% of the SMA-20,then breakout above the +5% level
This scan is working well for me...
Regards
RE: Satie, sideways chart then breakout.
Here's an example I used for a presentation last fall which might give you some ideas.
30 day consolidation scan, narrow range close within +/- 3% of the SMA-20,
then breakout above the +5% level
[type is stock]
and [1 day ago max (30, close ) <= 1 day ago sma(20, close) * 1.03]
and [1 day ago min (30, close ) >= 1 day ago sma(20, close) * .97]
and [close > 1 day ago sma(20, close) *1.05]
Note last line could be modified to look for a break in either direction,
and [ [close > 1 day ago sma(20, close) *1.05] or [close < 1 day ago sma(20, close) *0.95] ]
hope this gives you some ideas, just adjust the tolerances to fit your needs.
Quasi
Hi Quasi,
I’m trying to figure out how to create a scan to find stocks “sideways” for a period of time...next: I am interested in, is to identify possible “breakouts”.
Cush has suggested to contact you. (here is his answer)
"So while "trading sideways" may not be recognized price "range" can be identified. That's how I would start.
The guy who is best with scans right now is Quasi on the StockCharts.com board at iHub. You could ask him there. Meanwhile I will think about it, too."
Cush
Thank you for your help.
I figured it out. Sorry to bug ya. :)
Sorry about that! i need help if possible. How do I embed 10 charts with custom indicators into a single html document? The cookies only seem to work when I click "View image" and I have to view image to all ten and then if I refresh the document they all reset to not fully displayed. If I am logged in I can view them in IHUB but that is not my goal. I would rather watch at home and post when I feel the time is right on IHUB.. idk.. please solve mystery if you can. I know I can do the 3 indicator chart, but on intradays it would not work as well..
Hehe, well I'm still waiting for the day for "intraday scanning" abilities, and by that I mean to be able to search for certain technical criteria to be met on lesser time frames than daily scanning abilities only.
Such as and "MACD cross" on a 60 minute chart/time frame or even lesser such as 15 or 5 minute.
I take it that is still not in the cards ???
Or how about time periods such as 3 or 13 ?
Or even live dynamic "tic" charts ?
I realize that "latest intraday" is an option for scanning and that is somewhat helpful.
Sorry, I realize that perhaps this is merely just a support group here but maybe you guys have some pull ?
Thanks for everything tho,
loanwolf
Thanks Cush,
Sun is shinning for a change, gotta go clean up the yard.
Check your email.
talk to you later
Quasi
You're welcome, let us know if you still need some more options, I only touched on the main ones but I'm sure we could think of something else if you're still having problems.
Quasi
Thanks Quasi. Good explanation. You're great.
Cush
Thanks Quasi, I believe the link you gave is enough information for now to digest, as well as the specifics you have touched on!!!
"The option to save a static chart in the snapshots folder disappeared a couple of years ago, due to an upgrade which added many new features. "
and thank you for confirming the above referenced as I was not sure i was missing something or not on that option.
Much appreciated,
loanwolf
RE: Loanwolf, static charts etc.
Not sure exactly what you want to do but first I would read my post on chart and link posting 101, it has several options which might be applicable.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=48603233
The option to save a static chart in the snapshots folder disappeared a couple of years ago, due to an upgrade which added many new features.
You now have many new options depending on what you need to do.
- Use the "Share" button below the chart and email a static snapshot of the full chart along with a StockCharts link to the chart on the charting input page. The recipient will see the full snapshot but if they are not a member they will only see a free live version of the chart when they follow the link.
- For a static version you could also set the chart to a specific start and end date, hit the linkable version button and then save the URL link. Then every time you pull up that link it will be the same chart, at least until there is a data adjustment like a stock split or something, then StockCharts will back adjust the data to reflect the split. But again anyone who is not a member pulling up that chart will still only see what a free member would see.
- For static charts you could also use the printscreen function that comes with your operating system or a third party version to save a snapshot to whatever folder you want on your computer.
- Or save an image file (snapshot) directly with your browser, not sure exactly how it works on a MAC but if I run a Safari emulator on my Windoz machine, if I right click on the chart it gives me an option to "Save Image As.." then just name it and select the folder.
hopefully the above will give you some ideas, or let us know more details of exactly what you need to do.
Quasi
Hi Cush glad to see you again, its been a while since we've talked.
Hope all is well, we've missed you.
Quasi
Hey Cush, is there still an option on Stockcharts to save charts as static image ?
Or what is the best way to email charts in full to a non-stockcharts user, live updating if possible ?
Keep in mind I am a mac user if that matters in any way
Thanks for your time!
Same to you lemmy. And to everyone. Have a good one.
Cush
Hi, Cush,
Oh, I understand. But I was surprised to see that that other board hadn't had one single post in almost exactly three years! We used to be pretty successful in getting ticker symbols added...strength through numbers (and requests)!
As they say here, "bonne week-end".
Hi lemmy,
The link to request ticker symbols be added at StockCharts is in the header of that board you linked in your post.
Here it is again.
http://stockcharts.com/help/doku.php?id=support:feedback:symbol_request
That`s the best way to request a ticker be added. It does explain what exchanges are covered.
You can have a conversation here about what should be added, but we are just a group of StockCharts subscribers helping each other out.
Cush
Looks like the iHub board to request tickers hasn't had a post in three years:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.aspx?board_id=10244
Perhaps we can resurrect it here?
Some/Many .PK stocks are not in stockcharts.com's database.
What are some of the best buying scan in your opinion? Please share the advanced queries.
How would I scan for price and volume % gainer on the 1min, 5min, 15min, or 30min at the opening of the stock market?
RE; Fritzee, Scanning Mystery, days ago etc
Yes it can be a little tricky but once you get used to it you will find it quite easy.
There are basically two ways you can do it.
1) Use the "Starting days ago box" above the scan expression. This works if you want the whole scan to be run X days ago.
2) Insert " X Days ago" in front of each individual scan section. This works better when only certain sections of the scan are to be evaluated X days ago.
Note these are trading days ago, not calender days and its based on US trading days. For other countries like Canada the holidays may be different and you will have to adjust the time frame manually.
Also note I added a narrow price bracket for the BB width scan to make it easy to evaluate that the scan was returning the desired results of BB width for previous 10 days to be less than 10% of the stock price from 40 days ago. IE basically a $10 stock price so I can quickly scan to see if all BB widths were less than $1. I also set up a temporary chart setting showing only the time period and indicators in question, just for a quick evaluation, just remove that section later.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

SCANNING MYSTERY BEFUDDLING MY OLD WEARY BRAIN YEARS
I've been out of the loop for a while and recently got back in. One problem I've always had is how to scan for ALL stocks that meet a criteria like for example all stocks with Slow stochastics under 30 over the 30 days preceding 40 days ago. Or all stocks with a BB width under 10% of the close for 10 days preceding the close of 40 days ago.
I know how to get stocks meeting a criteria for a set number of days ago but not for X number of days preceding a set number of days ago.
I've tried to set one up like they do on finding a minimum low or a maximum high over a period of time preceding a set number of days ago but the brackets and parenthesis get me all discombobulated.
Chartnotes - Text Tool Update
I was advised by support (and I have tested it) that they have updated the treatment of "text boxes" so that like with other shapes, you can "SELECT" and "CTRL-D" to replicate the text box.
I wanted to show something and created a box with a big "A". However, you could not copy that and it took a bit of work to make a bunch of them.
So now you can create the text - size/color you want, then replicate it a bunch of times, followed by updating the text to read "B" "C" "D".
Excellent stuff! Great support and development team at Stock Charts.
Blake
Is anyone interested in sharing scans that they have written? I find formulating scans is a slooooow process, with lots of fine tuning, to eventually get the results I want, without a lot of extraneous charts.
I really marvel at the resident pros who can zero in on what the scan should ask for, but more importantly, what the scan shouldn't ask for. My brain just doesn't function in that manner, so when I finally come up with a scan that delivers what I am looking for, I feel a bit victorious.
Mostly, I'm a position or swing trader, so I'm looking at the shorter term. Not swinging for the fences, just a 5 to 10% gain and I'll move on. If it happens intraday, I'll take it.Usually, it's a week or even two.
Just to start things off, this is a simple scan for a Stochastic breakout over the 20 oversold line. Finds lots of nice hinges. I just trade Canadian stocks, so if you want US stocks, change "country" to "United States"
There will be lots candidates on the list today, just because of the selloffs last week, but normally, for Canadian stocks, I get about a dozen candidates each day.I'm not sure how many US stocks would normally be generated.
So here's the scan. Maybe others have an addition or improvement to it, such as combining it with a trend or volume indicator. That would lower the number of candidates, but also increase their potential. You should be able to just copy and paste the scan into the Advanced User "Scan Expression" box.
[type = stock] and [country = canada] and [daily sma(20,daily volume) > 40000] and [daily sma(60,daily close) > 2] and [2 days ago daily full stoch %k(14,3,3) < 20] and [daily full stoch %k(14,3,3) > 20]
Anyone else like to add a scan. We could develop a nice library.
choose "Behind Indicator" under POSITION . . .
this will overlay THAT parameter on the parameter above it.
question: How do i overlay multiple values for an indicator over one another? ie. i want 2 have Wm%R 9 and 14 over one another? In the parameters field I put in 9,14; it does not work.
Any help would be appreciated
Just had another instance of it not working, after hours...just FYI.
Just came in. Most charts and modes seem to be working as usual for me though there was a slight delay getting the auto-refresh working in SharpCharts mode. Seems to be working normally for me now.
Cush
Me too. On the members message page they said they are aware of the problem and working on it. Some sort of display issue.
Any one having problems thios am with loading charts?
Thanks, Quasi!
Your suggestion makes all the sense in the world. I might have to give myself a little "duh".
Re Crossing above or below function...
Yes Lemmy the crossing function is defined as crossing above. There is really no need for a crossing below function as you just need to reverse the parameters, if one is crossing above the other is crossing below.
IE: To find when the SMA(30) crosses below SMA(60). Just change the order to read, SMA(60) crosses above SMA(30).
hope this answers your question
Cheers Quasi
Term "crosses" seems to only mean only when crossing up. Anybody have a scan (or a term) for crossing down (like, for example, SMA(30) crosses below SMA(60)? TIA.
One more: Relative price performance?
It would be nice to be able to scan for relative price performance; such as an EMA of stock XYZ versus the same EMA of the S&P 100, etc., etc.,....
I don't so far see or find any way to do it, though.
Update to previous question--
If I put the favortite list condition at the end of the string of conditions, I get zero returns from a list of ratio charts, of some returns from a mixed list of ratio charts and charts whose single ticker is listed in the the symbol catalog.
For some unrelated reason, the system seems not to like getting the favorites list condition first...
I'd still like to be able to scan an actual favorites list--with the potential to scan custom ratio charts.....
A question about scanning favorites lists...
I'm trying to scan one specific favorites list (just one) which contains about half a dozen ratio charts (charts in the general form of $xyz:$abc). The Stockcharts.com scan engine returns 999 indices that have nothing particularly to do with my small favorites list... It seems the engine won't scan an actual favorites list (though their system can obviously draw the charts), but only those charts found directly in their symbol lookup--it seems it won't scan custom ratio charts...
Any insight into this situation is greatly appreciated!
Alright that sounds good, so that means I can use stockcharts for intraday charts.
One more thing though, does anyone know if the stockcharts advanced scanning engine can do intraday scans??
I am considering using Trade-ideas for intraday scans, but if stockcharts support them I'd save some subscription money from trade-ideas, which would be great.
hey 'zzzsstocks' . . . the parameters/arguments for
any Indicator refers to the number of bars.
So, if you are using 1-minute bars, then MACD(26,12,9)
refers to 26-,12-,9- minutes.
If you were using the 5-minute bar time-frame ...
they would refer to 130-,60-,45- minute periods.
btw . . there is no such thing in StockCharts as any bar of less than 1-minute.
Good Luck !!!
