cintrix...As to our discussion a while back there is one way to go over the 250,000 limit at one bank and still be insured.
In fact, up to 50 mil.
Not all banks participate in CDARS, but those that do offer this!
Check this out....interesting!

Yes they are ALL bad!!!

That's easy. Thanks
Float is outstanding shares minus the restricted.
Nope, not without doing some research first. It would seem there isn't too many customers with LLC ,s in my neck of the woods. Both banks admitted that they should know the answer but they were going to check to make sure.
I'm willing to max out the balance at each bank as long as I know for certain how much FDIC will cover for!
I should know more shortly.....frustrating! I may have to take on additional banks.
Trying to do this with as few banks possible, for now anyways.
As long as the money is insured, that's my main concern!

They couldn't tell you? That's scary! Personally I would never put that much money with one bank. Why not spread it around a bit so you know for sure you are safe.
Thanks cintrix, I was surprised that two different banks could not tell me for certain, and one of them was the VP.
Still waiting for word back from them.....thinking that maybe it varies from bank to bank!
Thanks again! That link will be helpful.

I think it is per depositor. Check this link out:
http://www.fdic.gov/deposit/deposits/insuringdeposits/
Not a investor question but I know there are some sharp minds here!
Does anyone know how much FDIC will guarantee a LLC savings account at the bank? I know the limit is $250,000 per individual with normal accounts.
If you had say 3 individual accounts all rolled into a LLC account at the same bank would FDIC insurance increase to $750,000?

I use ET Pro. This one is also pretty good:

Anyone know of a good otcbb stock screener?
I would like to simply screen OTCbb stocks for earnings.
I don't know what platform u r using with Etrade, but if you have Market Trader just hit the Research/Price History tab. If you don't have it you can go to Yahoo and just glance at historical prices:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=VZ
If you don't want to glance at the past days volume and you want an actual number go to YahooSummary:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=VZ
It will tell you average volume for the past three months.
if enough people believe that something is real, it then becomes real,
There is usually always a reason why there is a sudden surge in volume. If nothing is actually happening within the company - such as a material event - beware of a promotion (pump and dump). That's my philosophical statement for the day. lol
Different question, regarding "daily average volume" for OTCBB stocks...
Is daily average volume something that for OTCBB stocks you must calculate manually? Or is daily average volume for subpenny stocks, for example, part of the quoting mechanism on some trading platforms? I don't see it on eTrade for OTCBB stocks.
I have resigned myself to approximating daily average volume from a cursory glance at a chart, but it would be nice if it could be computed for me!
TIA
Thanks for the reply...
So, then, maybe it could be said that when there is enough volume in a stock to attract the attention of enough traders (like a light bright enough to attracts enough bugs for it to become "buggy"), then you will have an increase in volume great enough to cause a breakout. So maybe the "big" volume on days of breakouts is attributable more to traders "thinking" that something is doing with a stock, so they start buying, which causes more traders to jump on the bandwagon.
There is a famous philosopher who said (paraphrased): "If men define situations real, then they are real in their consequences"... which I take to mean, that if enough people believe that something is real, it then becomes real, in such a way that if all of those people did not come together (herd) to make one single determination (like that a stock is ready to go up, and therefore should be bought), then that thing that they determined as "imminent" or what have you, would not have come to pass.
Is that what you are saying here?
Any time volume goes up over the daily average volume it sets off scan alerts. ft it is out of the ordinary and lasts more than a day it could get the eye of traders. Happens all the time. Sometimes a stock can move just because volume comes in and there could be nothing at all going on with the actual company.
RE: Volume near a breakout zone
I set email alerts for PPS for stocks that I believe are close to breaking out of a range.
I can also set volume criteria for the email alerts for any stock.
Is there a rule of thumb for what constitutes "high" volume? Or "better than normal" volume. I am thinking of volume that is high enough to be out of the ordinary.
Of course, it would be great to know the threshold for volume where it would DEFINITELY push the PPS up enough to break out. But that is not what I am asking here. I am wondering if there is a good rule of thumb as far as "elevated" volume goes.
Maybe this question, about breakouts, is self explanatory, but I figured I'd ask just in case there is some sage advice out there on when volume crosses the threshold to HIGH. The earlier you can see a breakout coming, the better!
Thanks a lot!

Understood - thanks for your patience today.
Transfer agents? Yes, if u r getting info from them it should be legit. I could remember a pink company who acted as their own ta - so if that is the case u can beware.
They legally have to be truthful right?
A pink? lol Pinks are notorious for not being truthful, but that doesn't mean that every pink sheet company is a scam. You just have to figure out which are and which aren't.
They legally have to be truthful right? <--- Refering to the Transfer agent.
Just checking all my bases. lol
I use to stay away from the Nevada ones too, until they all started incorporating there. LOL I would keep checking the TA if they aren't gagged.
Florida - I try to stay away from those nevada ones. lol learned my lesson the hard way.
Transfer agent hasn't been silent either. Bird
I don't follow pinks the way I used to, so I don't know if this is still the case, but they used to be able to increase the authorized without notice. So we would have a stock that we thought had an authorized near maxed and then we would find out that they increase it. Is it a Nevada corp?
Pink, It did have a paperwork for the original company AS increase in Feb. of this year and the CEO seems very legit as well as the rest of the board. Bird
Is it a pink or an otcbb?
Cintrix generally what happens to a stock when VFIN shows up, does that mean dilution? Thanks again Bird
Also the AS is just about maxed out and there are no new filings as well.
I use a scan where I can put in whatever perimeters I want. Mine comes with Pro. If you had something like this you would set if for all stocks under a buck that trade only on nasdaq, amex, and nyse. I have no idea if there are free ones out there. I think buying stocks based on someone saying "let'r rip" is a very dangerous thing.
Where do I find stocks that are about to go for a good run (like KERX did in the last month and abwtq should do in the next few weeks). I'm interested in penny stocks under $1 that aren't traded OTC (my broker, ScotiaBank, can't accomodate that online; I can only buy whatever's on the AMEX, TSE, NASDAQ,... exchanges).
I found KERX on google finance (there was a post saying "let'r rip" so I looked it up on ihub). Where can I find more gravy train cases like that? Is there a "iBox" or list of picks that you folks use?
Cintrix Thanks a lot for the help. I will have to find a way the trusts are set up. Again thanks.
Bluebird
I've never done it but there are RE trusts for IRA's:
Real estate. While the guidelines on real estate, particularly leveraged real estate, are not as clear as some CPAs might like, clients should be able to use IRA funds to invest in real estate—a much overlooked and underused opportunity. While the brokerage, mutual fund and banking industries have fully exploited the IRA concept, the real estate industry seems to have missed the boat.
An IRA investor may be able to leverage real estate purchased in an IRA if the transaction is carefully structured. While it can be a problem for an IRA owner to borrow from an IRA, investing in leveraged real estate—with the IRA trust holding title to the assets—may be allowed if the property seller holds the mortgage in the IRA trustee’s name. In such situations the borrower of the funds is not the IRA owner but, rather, the IRA trust. In addition, the IRA owner cannot be held liable for additional recourse on leveraged assets held in the IRA. (The IRA trust agreement should make note of this fact.) Because this is an innovative approach not commonly practiced, a CPA should encourage the client to obtain a letter ruling from the IRS before purchasing real estate leveraged with IRA funds.
It’s important to remember that any debt in an IRA must be serviceable through liquid assets held in the IRA or through the $2,000 annual contribution. And although some of the tax advantages of real estate (deductible interest or depreciation) are lost in an IRA, IRA funds themselves are already tax-advantaged. In addition, deductions offset income, which helps in complying with the unrelated business income tax rules (IRC sections 512 and 514) applying to leveraged real estate. All gains are tax-free in an IRA—nothing is taxed until it is distributed. With a Roth IRA, even distributions are tax-free. This allows investment-oriented real estate to fulfill its growth potential unfettered by federal and state taxes.
The best types of real estate for an IRA are cash deals (transactions leveraged directly with the seller also might work), specialized real estate mutual funds and real estate investment trusts. Limited partnerships probably are not advisable (because of IRC section 511, discussed below). Rental property may be permissible as long as there is no personal use of the properties involved.
Real estate must be solely an investment; the taxpayer or related parties cannot use it in any way. The taxpayer should purchase the real estate so the trust holds title to the asset (some organizations will act as trustees for nontraditional IRA assets). Since the percentage of IRA assets that can be used for real estate has not been given a “bright line” test by the regulatory authorities, it seems safe to say any amount is acceptable.

Question here......... I have heard in passing that its possible to take money from a retirement account and put it in some sort of trust. Which enables someone to buy real estate with it. Does anyone? know of this process or have a website that talks about it. TIA Bird
I think there are some Canadian firms that allow it.
Do small investors have the right to short pinks and bb stocks? you always wonder why people bash stocks here. Are they just waiting for the price to drop so they can buy more? OR do they have a vandetta agianst the CEO, TD AMERTRADE wont let me short or buy optians on any of theese because they are not marginable.
Thankyou, in advance!!
Free shares are for example:
you buy 1000 shares @ $1 today (cost $1000), the share price increases to $2 tomorrow at which time you sell enough ( 500shares)
to recoup your intial investment and then RIDE the remaining 500 FREE shares for as long as you feel comfortable.
A reverse split ,commonly seen as R/S 1/50, 1/500,etc ..is for example:
you buy 1,000,000 shares @.01 ( cost $10,000), company ( DAILY LIST @ OTCBB) announces a 1/1000 RS effective tomorrow ,which means tomorrow you will have ONE share for every 1000 you had the day before.
now you have ONLY 1000 shares , but the price per share has increase by 1000 fold to $10, so in essence its still worth the same, but usually trades down substantially almost immediately.
most view reverse splits very negatively, as they are usually done to make way for toxic financing and wipe out last seasons bagholders while preparing for the next pump job.
A reverse split is just the opposite of a forward split. It you have 1000 shares of xyz trading at a buck and it reverse splits tomorrow 1:2, it means you have half the shares but at twice the price - So you would have 500 shares at 2.00. Theoretically, it doesn't have any bearing on what you had prior to the reverse split, but that isn't how it usually works. Most reverse splits are the kiss of death. The stock price plummets before the split and after. Many penny stock companies reverse split their outstanding to their advantage leaving stockholders to lose a lot of money. When the ratio is small, the reverse split is usually not as bad. The example I gave you is of a small ratio, but the penny stocks will reverse split with way higher ratios like 1:500 or 1:1000 so that they can decrease their outstanding. Sometimes a company will reverse split their stock just so that they can maintain a certain price per share to stay on an exchange that requires a minimum pps.
Free shares? In what context? Sometimes people will say they are riding free shares which means they profited enough on a certain stock that the shares they now hold basically are "free" because of their prior profits.
What exactly is a reverse split an what is the effect on the sharprice if I may ask?
What are free shares?
thx alot and have a green day
I suggest you stick to the nasdaq, amex issues that have dropped to penny status. There are loads of them under two bucks. The otcbb and the pinks can be brutal if you are a newbee. Don't invest in them, trade them.
Newbe looking to help on penny stock trades.
I have bought some bank stock recently and made a good profit. I am looking to do the same with penny stocks. Looking for some advise and wisdom. Thanks
thank you cintrix.
recording date is 11th
You mean the "record date" was the 11th of May? Then you will probably not get it because you need to have bought it before the ex-dividend date, not the record date. The ex-divy date was probably on the 7th - the day before you purchased it. If the 7th was the date you would have needed to buy it as late as the 6th.
I bought a stock today and the settlement day is the 13th. The stock pays a dividend and the recording date is 11th and payable on the 15th do I get the dividend. Thank you in advance for your help.
thanks for the help it is greatly appreciated =)
I rarely trade pinks anymore so I don't really scan for them. There are way too many other "good" companies out there trading on the nasdaq that are affordable right now. At this point, I don't need to trade these bloated quasi-companies who need to hire promo people to get their stock moving temporarily so that they can dump it. My scans for nasdaq are based on price and low os companies. Sometimes I will come a across a pink and like the volume, level II and the os and trade it intraday. I recently traded trxx and grdo, but that is the extent to my recent pink trading. All my other trades are usually nasdaq at the moment.
I think what I'm asking is What parameters do you consider successful when looking for pinks.
What does YOUR screener look like.
I can find the screener but I don't know what to put in it.
Etrade has something called strategy planner. YOu can set up a strategy for pinks only and decide for yourself what perimeters you want to put in there such as maximum price, minimum price, % up, % down, moving averages, etc. There are plenty of other companies who have these scanners - don't know if your broker does, but there are free ones such as this:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_ScreenerConfig.html
just make sure you toggle pinks at the bottom
I would appreciate if anyone can help me with building a good stock screener for pinks. Where do I find one and what do I put in it when I get there. TIA
I can pretty well read charts and screen for big stocks but pinks seem to be a different breed and I'm not exactly sure how to anticipate a move.
So, they are filtering out all their X trade, heh? lol
It's alphatrade. The show X as canceled and F as filtered, which I never heard of. The trade was listed as XF.
Thanks.
