Sometime in life knee jerks reaction is to sell, if one thing comes in my mind that can change horrifically the entire US growth scenario yesterday was it. However, in times of need, it is not times to profit from misery of the greatest nation on the face of this world, we are buying $’s although the market is very thin, also in sign of solidarity our board has agreed to our recommendation that no selling for next 1 week, we will stay with our assets whatever is the cost. We are very small, but we will do in this time of need the best we could to help US out of this problem, moreover spread this message, don’t react, don’t sell your assets, and are our assets more than the life’s of thousands? Lets not play in Osama hands. It is our élan that we want to live, as free nation that will count a nation should not be taken hostage by few knife-yielding terrorist. Shock the world with your resilience and shock the terrorist with your ability to come out untainted from this devastating blow. Be strong and stop people who are rumor mongers, I understand that global recession can ensue from this but that is the purpose and that has to be avoided at all cost! This is not the time to get into bear trades or sell all rallies trades, it is the time to show unity and external threat imposed on financial destruction of us can only be faced by US citizens and how, say no to financial blackmailers and those who tell you to get out of US assets. It is like deserting a friend when he needs you the most. We will buy as of tomorrow, our board has authorized an amount of 60 million francs to be put in the
Markets today and tomorrow on opening, that is what we will do the vandals will do their job and I know that this can start of potential global recession but in time of need we will stand by US, this is what my Kuwaitis friends tell me, ‘go Ike go, we are with you’. That is what I am going to do and that is how I am going to loose them a mad man that I am but a solid man.
The forces of construction and optimism should win this last round for the sake of nation; the mother waits for its children not to desert her at the most crucial time of her history. Rebuke the people who want to make your resolve weaker, stand up with your mother and your country, the country needs you to tell the institutions stand up firm and show your grits, be counted, don’t sit in the house and taken awash by people who will tell you this is the end, this is the beginning of a new age for US to secure the future of its people from such blind ideologues. For us this the time to stand up and be counted with US, be strong in face of adversity and those who say 'sell' may go to hell, the time is to help the nation and assume a normal life, any thing otherwise the forces of darkens portray is playing in the hands of the people who want to destroy the freedom and economic stability that US guarantees the world.
Spread this message of hope to every investing thread in US.

Kim.. great post.. I think that link you posted is excellent, I will give my view on that, I think things are not the same as they were under Raj. The hatred between commnunities does exists I will be a fool to say no but so does the love, in partition where as a result of abrupt independence we in sub-continent got carried away and wrote a history of bloodshed we have maintained a certain balance and respect of life in sub-continent. 130 m Muslims in India live very peacefully and they love India, religion has never been the cause of major rift although as a nation they have some internal disputes, the credit does go to Hindus who have been very kind and are basically a non-violent race. In Pakistan /Indian dispute the Muslims in India have shown extraordinary valor to defend their borders. On a sub-continent basis we have a lot of unity amongst nation although Pakistani Muslims internally do have serious sectarian problems, but unfortunately that is part of Islamic history if they don't have extrnal threat the infigting starts. I see that history has some serious ponts but here the things would be different.
Iqbal Latif
Yes, It will take much more sweat, blood, and time to eatablish a moderate Muslim country. At least, your information that Moderate Iranians take more control of their fate is a good news. I hope we can get more help from moderate Islamic leaders and someone like you who can speak up and try to change. Thanks for your excellent overview.
Here is one person's worrisome view from SI to think over our action: this post is more organized than mine.

Also, there is a news that a group of people even in Switzland celebrated our tragic event.
I just heard a news that two Arabic Americans were killed by a mob or mobs in the mid-east America. One Sikh was killed as mistakenly identified as Arabs. Students have beaten other students who look like Arabs. It is sad hate stories.
At least your sons stay in Berkeley, the most liberal city in the Bay Area, the most liberal region where I live. Also, Jerry Falwell hates due to more gay-lesbian living here. I think you sons will be OK in Berkeley. But still I read hate crimes occur in many white concentrated areas here once in a while. The congress man or woman from Berkeley is the only person who objected to give unlimited power of authorization for military use this time. Democracy works. I can't understand how dare he can say no under this circumstance. We live in America not North Korea and China(G).
Yep I have a real sneaky feeling the SEC and US government in partnership with other forign goverments and exchanges are going to be looking for where the money flow is for Terrorist.
Looking for confirmation in the news.

Couple of days ago, I read one post on SI said German Government is investigating some people related to Bin Ladin who shorted insurance companies in German.
Ike I have been following your posts. Keep up the good work. I just saw on CNBC that the SEC is checking ADRs to see where terrorist traders may have shorted certain stocks prior to the WTC murders. They are going to track down if the terrorist are making capital in the markets.
Looks like the US is going to hurt them in the pocket book.

<The Moscow-based Izvestiya daily said this included Jamiyat Al Islamiya, with links to both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The Russian intelligence agency said the group is preparing new attacks on U.S. installations with the help of a pool of 400 suicide bombers.>
Not a threat rather just propaganda Moscow-based Izvestiya to settle old scores from a man who has hurt them a lot. This is a story that goes back to Afghan- CIA- Reagen-Casey and Pakistan nexus. A PERSON CALL Qazi Hussain Ahmed heads Jamaat. A middle class reformist but puritan and extremist who have some respect for life. He has called recently the attacks of Osama as 'fasad fil arz' instead of Jihad distancing himself from Osama, this edict makes Osama actions s 'haram.' (means commotion on earth and unlawful)
Russia has lot of old scores to settle with the guy, a kind of a 'instable' but on scale of 'madness' he would be 5 if Osama is 10. He is a product of CIA-ISI togetherness in bed to get USSR down. He has condemned these attacks in USA but his Jamaat radical tentacles stem from the Afghan-USSR 10 year’s quite war. His son was taught in USA, Qazi Hussain Ahmad has widely travelled abroad to represent Jama’at at the international forums, leading goodwill missions as well as in his personal capacity to mediate in issues concerning Muslim nation. Post-Soviet power struggle in Afghanistan, he sided with Hekmatyar and his faction is out of favor with taleban.
After Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed came in contact with Afghan mujahideen and had personal terms with top Afghan leaders. Please Read 'Bear trap' Brigader Muhammed Yusuf. I will not consider him a threat to US interests although he has a pre-occupation with Kashmir, like all radicals consider US responsible for all the ills of Islamic societies. I hve noticed a change in his tone since his vist to USA last year, little more moderate. On March 11, Qazi Hussain Ahmad gave a presentation at the Stimson Center entitled, "The Future of Pakistan." Below are some of the highlights of the question and answer session that followed his address. This is highlight of his thoughts on 'Jehad'..
Q: I understand when it is felt obligatory to wage jihad. Under what circumstances is it obligatory to stop waging jihad, according to Islamic precepts?
Qazi Hussain Ahmad: There is a difference between jihad and fisad-bil-arz. Fisad-bil-arz is also a Quranic term—corruption, and bloodshed, and violence in the village which is haram (unlawful). Jihad is for the promotion of peace. Jihad is worship. And this has got conditions and manners, like any worship. The basic intention is so that men shall live in peace. When there is not jihad, but violence, fisad-bil-arz, and corruption, innocent people and wealth are destroyed. Jihad must terminate in the establishment of justice and peace.
Q: So jihad cannot stop unless and until justice and peace is established?
Mr. Ahmad: Yes, is restored. But if it deteriorates in a situation where instead of justice and peace, corruption and violence is spread, then it should be curtailed. And it should be guided to the true and rightful path.
According to Brigadier Yusuf in ‘Bear trap’ the CIA's main task was to spend money. Without getting itself directly involved in spending the money the CIA put the responsibility on Brigader Muhammed Yusuf.
Says Mr. Muhammed Yusuf, billions of dollars worth of trucks, fuel oil, camels, and other beasts of burden, medicines, and of course, arms used to be purchased with the CIA money. According the Brigadier, in 1987 alone 30 to 35 million rupees were spent for purchase of food only. In 1983 arms amounting to 10,000 tons were purchased rising gradually to 65,000 tons in 1987. From small arms to anti-aircraft rocket launchers or anti-tank rocket launchers and even the heat-seeking stinger missiles were given to the Mujahideens. The Mujahideens being natives of the mountainous terrain were physically fit for guerrilla operations. They also required, according to the ISI Brigadier, most sophisticated and modern weapons. For years on end the CIA and the ISI combined their activities in providing funds and as well as training to the Mujahideens. Enormous funds were channelled through the CIA and the ISI. For transporting arms and ammunitions to destinations inside Afghanistan 15 to 20 dollars a Kg was spent in 1986. To reach a mortar from Pakistan to Mazar-e-Sharif as much as 1,100 dollars were spent. For transporting a 65 dollars had to be earmarked. Every month the CIA used to send money to the ISI's secret bank account in Pakistan.
With the army rule continuing in Pakistan for a long period it was easier for both the CIA and the ISI to work in close cooperation to coordinate the cooperation. In the following years too the Army and the fundamentalist organisations holding the reins of power, joint operations of the two bodies used to continue.
During Brig. Usuf's tenure for four years till 1987 the CIA and the ISI jointly trained 80,000 mujahideens. Brig Siddiqui wrote about this last year that< America, as the Afghan Mujahideen's erstwhile armourer, supporter and image builder as the greatest freedom fighters (jihadis) of the world pitted against the Evil Empire afford to disown them completely?
The Afghan anti-Soviet fighter was the American hero, the American icon, and the recipient of the juiciest slice of foreign fare (well over $ three billion). Even after the front-loaded withdrawal of the Soviets from Afghanistan, US arm aid in the pipeline earmarked for the Mujahideen continued. Washington would even go to the extent of joining issue with Moscow on the quantum of aid to the combatants - Afghan regulars and para-militaries under President Najibullah on one side and the US-aided anti-Najibullah Mujahideen on the other. America would continue to insist on 'symmetary', that is, balance between Moscow's deliveries to Kabul and its own to the Mujahideen. It would simply not have the Mujahideen to suffer an account of any deficiency or inferior quality of the weaponry supplied. To counter the much-dreaded Soviet helicopter battle gunship M1 (Hind) 24/28 America equipped the Mujahideen, with the state-of-the art surface-to-air shoulder-fired stinger. After Israel, the Afghan Mujahideen were probably the only other in the third world to receive the Stingers blowing the Hind out of the skies.
In fact the number and profusion of the US-supplied weapons might well have exceeded the storage capacity and their actual deployment, by the user, Pak-backed Mujahideen. The big explosion at the Ojhri in April 1988, unleashing a rain of stingers, all kind of artillery and mortar shells on Islamabad besides exposing the huge quantities of Ordnance testified both to poor storage capacity and lack of deployment. Not too far away from Islamabad are located the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) in Rawalpindi, POFs (Wah) KRL and other large and small ammunition depots calling for the need of fool-proof security against accidental fires and mala fide intrusions. The role of the CIA and its close nexus with the ISI has been amply recorded in The Bear Trap: Afghanistan's Unsold Story by Brigadier Mohammad Yusuf and Mark Adkin.
Brig Yusuf served as the head of the Afghan Bureau for four years from 1983-87. According to the publisher's blurb the book is 'nothing less than the true account of how the USA and Pakistan covertly controlled the largest guerilla war of this century....' One of the CIA's major contributions, apart from arms procurement and deliveries was to organise and streamline the battlefield communications systems for the Mujahideen. A long 20-week course was initiated to train the Mujahideen to operate the system. A quote from the Bear Trap would be in order. "I (Yusuf) held many discussions with the CIA experts on this problem before we finally settled for two types of set.
The long-range one was known as a 'burst communication' set with a range of over 1000 kilometers; the short-range one was called a 'frequency hopper' having a range of 30-50 kilometers. The technology of the burst sets was impressive. A message of 1000 words would take a few seconds to transmit, making it virtually impossible to decode. Operationally my intention was to locate the burst sets at Parwan (Hekmatyar), Paghman (Sayyaf), Mazar-i-Sharif (Rabbani) and Kandahar (Khalis), with about ten frequency hoppers issued to the main Commanders of each party. This would enable us to get in touch with all groups within 30-50 kilometers of the long-range sets. Other frequency hoppers would be positioned at the training camps. The leaders agreed, so I pressed ahead."
However, no sooner did the Soviet military withdraw that Americans drastically reduced the level of arming and funding the Mujahideen. The principal, strategic threat removed America's interest in Afghanistan was restricted mainly to the removal of the Soviet aided Najibullah government and the establishment of a 'broad-based' pro-West pro-American government. It had been wary all the time of the advent of a fundamentalist Islamic government dominated by radicals such as Hekmatyar, Sayyaf, and Khalis. The term 'broad-based' used in respect of the government would in practical terms mean a pro-West government compromising the moderates... > This is a complicated issue here we are dealing with, the more you get into the more you wil see how this mess of Osama was made to rot. It was a failure of the policy and politicians who could not see the price of vaccum...

A hijacked Nation revives!! Islam and Muslims world today is 'material and mental' hostage of .1% fringe men like Osama they sit atop terror empires.
Not all ordinary blokes in the Islamic world are like this; hence I still love my country, and would like and help to change it to a place where we can breath in freedom. Today I would have hated and embarrassed if Pakistan would have not risen to the occasion. You see today and you will see in the news tonight that we have put ourselves in peril but this is we owed. No favours to anyone, we owed it to the world. I hope a new vacuum like 1990 US abrupt withdrawal from Pakistan-Afghanistan will not leave us at the mercy of the dogs of terror. The history and background of this present conflict is horrifyingly damaging for those people who preached that disengagement from world was the best policy, for a greatest country on the earth whose interest never sets or sleeps, the stability of America and the world is the biggest interest of America today, the Americans have realized that vacuums will expose them to attacks that will shake the foundations of democracy and freedom, but it is most sad that such a terrible price had to be paid before such a realisation materialised. Today the terrorists of the worlds are on one side and world community on the other, the Muslims in each country will have to decide where do they stand. The evil war against an unseen enemy has just begun and it will be a long one. The global stage of this long drawn war will have Osama as one casualty but the base camps that have made nations hostage will be others.
It took 20 years of unjust revolution in Iran today for Iranians to decide that ‘enough is enough’. In a football game today 100,000 Iranians observed a moments silence, Khomieni intellectually hijacked the Iranians, now the reformists have won big landslides in last two elections. The ‘Imams’ revolution will be history in 5-10 years the ‘freedom of thought’ that they try to enslave has in 20 years made the Iranians realize that all this is ‘greatest Satan thing’ was farce. The end game is up. Death to America or ‘murg be America’ a slogan coined by Khomieni died in Tehran today in short than 20 years of this revolution, they could not hoodwink a very sensible Iranian nation is finally reawakening albeit slowly but surely this ‘catastrophic’ sacrifice is the most unfortunate catalyst’s. However Iranian last three generations in the process to learn that, the one that is born in 90’s are seeing this evil model and knowing the taste of freedom resisting it, the one born in 1970’s have now realised what a lost dream it was, the generation of 50’s have tasted the totalitarianism of Shah and yoke of Islamic revolution they would rather be under a despot than a regime that wants nothing with freedom of mind.
I look back in history whenever an attempt was made to deflower global freedom in out times it was the responsibility of the US to make this world a better place to live from turn of the century to Gulf war, time and again we have witnessed that. This is the reason that US is entrusted with this global responsibility to make this word a better place.
The former and later of the two causes i.e. 'material and mental' hostage of nation of Islam stems from decadence rising from dependence and total reliance on 'conspiracy theory', streak of self-righteousness and the totally misunderstood promise of 70 ‘houries’ to each ‘momin.’ (Houries are beautiful handmaidens promised in heavens and momin the believer). No they don’t have the moral courage to break these chains, now an argument can be made to hell with them but it is their ability outside their hell that makes them today cause of concern of the entire civilised world. Being enslaved and terrorised in their own societies, I do it at risk of my life, I have never cared and thousands small people like me do the little we can to show the world that we need a period of enlightenment, we missed our renaissance we did not miss we screwed anyone who wanted to lead us out, Turkey changed by Kamal Ata Turk but no other reformist was ever given the right to live. These societies have to go through this period of ‘enlightenment’ under the glaring eyes of 24 hours CNN, we are suffering as a result of this interconnectivity on one hand it brings hope and promise on other it brings the ‘evil’ right in our living areas and next it breaks through that and with the help of technology brings evils in our lives, much as we all want to be dissociated with it we become a victim of it.
An American would rightly ask Why us? I have absolutely no answers, America does not deserve it at all with so much that it has given to mankind, but as the strongest of the nations I see envy for America even amongst it closest allies, the strong and successful breed contempt, in case of America it is very true. It very success and its very potency breeds envy of friends and for foes it is the target.
These societies have their evil Hitler’s and mass Nazis who hate everyone except a medieval sick mind ready to take us to the old cave age, they live in cage the are like caged animals. Regrettably we have to go through this very traumatic period in which the world has come together in ‘pictures’ and transmissions but not in maturity of thought and respect for individual life.
Evil and good is equally projected across screens in the name of press liberty. Imagine if heart rendering evils of ‘ Holocaust’ would be available on life Tele, had that happened someone would have stopped it, 10 million lives would not have lost to psychopath like Hitler. Osama is a symptom a curse that is born every few decades, all psychopaths are alike they have same common traits of ‘tyrannical and repressive attitudes’ irrespective of their nationalities Saddam, Osama and Hitler. All different breeds of man but similar characteristics, your burden is that you are a target of a sick mind and an ill group; you have now resolved that ‘enough is enough.’ The price is highly paid already now the resolve is not to make that mistake of appeasement or negligence ever again.
Iqbal Latif

An Afghan-American view of bombing Afghanistan but couldn't believe Pakistan already support fully of American's military act. It looks like we should prepare for another attack to the U.S. military station in Pakistan.

Another hatred born here. Reverent Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson's saying:
Our dear Reverent Jerry Fawell said,"...allow the enemies of America give us probably what we deserve." Then, his friend, theologist defend him by saying,"...because this is God's direct punishment."
I misquote Fawell said "Jews" but he did not. What he said was "A.C.L.U people", who usually defend blacks, minorities, and other some radical issues. I can interpret what he means.
I couldn't see any difference between extreme Islamic Mullahs and Christian clergies.

$1 Billion Price on bin Laden's Head
Wanted Dead or Alive: Osama bin Laden, suspected mastermind of Tuesday's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
That's the message from a group of Los Angeles businessmen who hope to raise $1 billion to pay mercenaries to hunt down the mass murderer and anyone else who helped with Tuesday's attacks.
"Now it's time to wipe out the wasp nests of terrorism," Edward Lozzi told U.S. News & World Report's "Washington Whispers" Saturday, explaining the motivation behind the fund.
Lozzi's is the public relations executive hired by the group of anonymous West Coast millionaires who want to raise the big bucks to take bin Laden out.
"I don't think there's any American who wouldn't donate," the PR man said.
And what if the U.S. military gets to bin Laden before the private bounty hunters? Lozzi said the money will go instead to the familes of the victims of Tuesday's attacks.

Pakistan, China, and Saudi Arabia meeting behind closed doors?...i don't feel comfortable with that...a US rep should be present. A friend on SI askes me?
My response..
Don't worry, this is why..
He has to take Chinese into confidence, our friends. Saudis are our 'sugar daddies' when we are sanctioned we are bankrolled by them. Both are close US allies on this, remember that Osama original war is with the Saudis and his megalomaniac compulsions to be the ‘custodian of the two holy mosques.’ The present custodian of the two holy mosques is King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, the real man behind who runs day to day Saudi is Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, both have considerable influence over Pakistan, we don’t do any thing without Saudi’s clearance. Musharraf would be blessed in both capitals. Saudi’s as you know are closest US allies, Osama wants US soldiers out from Eastern Saudi Arabia these forces in Kuwait and SA provide check on dirty litter like Saddam’s of the world, the ring and the noose gets tighter around he megalomaniacs of the world.
All of them are allies of US in this, Chinese are pissed off with Islamic extremism in the Southern provinces of China, they have asked Pakistani to clear the mess even to the extent the relationships were strained, Saudis are fed up with Osama's threat, no one but US can handle him and Pakistan has to make its bid. This is contemporary history of the Islamic politics at its best and here we are running events little ahead of CNN and everyone else, you give me the news I will give you the results. That puts me in hot waters too. ggg

Taliban given three days to hand over bin Laden
September 16, 2001 Posted: 9:36 AM EDT (1336 GMT)
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan is to warn the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan they have three days to hand over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden or face massive military action led by the U.S.
Iqbal Latif
Pakistan delegation will probably issue an ultimatum to Taliban's in Kandahar that either deliver Bin Laden or risk a massive retaliatory assault.

Special Services Group of the US Marines' Green Seals have landed in Islamabad.
The Nation reports a special plane carrying over two dozen foreigners landed at the Chakala airbase.
The News quotes an eyewitness as saying he saw a small contingent of US troops landing in Islamabad. There is no official confirmation of the reports.
The paper says, according to unofficial reports, over 50 personnel from the Special Services Group of the US Marines' Green Seals have landed.
It adds they plan to conduct 'target-oriented' operations against Osama bin Laden, prime suspect behind the terrorist strikes in the US.

Same as I did did the other terrorist supportive states. Neutral means I belive they will talk unison but their history countradicts that they will be supportive.
Same as I have Russian and Cuba in that neutral catagory.
As far as Jerry Flawell I trhink he needs to take his spoiled backside off his selfrighteous throne and be stuck in the middle of as a chaplin. I have no use for Jerry Falwell and his absurd stupidity.
You are correct that it is going to take education and reform to stop terrorism.

That makes perfect sense however:
Will Pakistan faughter once the Taliban attacks them for daring to all infidels on Muslim soil? The Taliban is ruthless and kills their own or executes them without any hestitation. Also isn't Afghanistan one of the mjor Poppy Producers in the world?
Syria is the where Clinton exports a rubber Presidential scenario for encyption devices. How much more did Clinton do to aide the Terrorist in their growth and secercy? We probably wont know that till later when things finally do surface.
Missing Suddam was a serious mistake and the way the Gulf was performed may have stopped him but we all knoew we would be facing him again. I believe he will be a major player in the Holy WWWIII.
I was unaware till I started do my DD on this just how cruel this has been for your people. I am shocked at what I do not knowof children and innocent people dying not to mention the horrible condition for the women. You are right there is now stopping this and the more that is coveyed the more poeple will understand the true horror. As for liberals if I never talk to another liberal would be fine with me.
I was in London a few years ago for the opening of the Globe on the Thames and I traveled across Britian and I will say one thing US is a spoiled nation. Spoil nations breed liberals. Poor nations breed terrorist.
You are right this is not about the markets or money this is about innocent bllod being spilled by these cults.
But how far will this war grow if China, Russia, and Other countries continue to fuel the terrorists with arms and technology? How long before nuclear capability such as what pakistan has is controlled by the Taliban.
I agree that recognition of Israel is not the issue here. They are a force in the middle east regardless if recognized as a state or not. I doubt Israel or the US will faughter in this cam[paign against terrorism. Just be glad Carter, Clinton or Gore or some other spoil liberal is not in the White House.
Do you think India will leap at the chance to war with Pakistan it their support of this anti terror campaign?
Hopefully the Praetotian Guard will be reinstill to keep what is won over from falling back into the control of the terrorist. ANd who knows maybe the liberals will wait up to what is going on and that their kind only fuels the taking of innocent lives. Maybe the Liberal should live in the in Afghanistan for a while.

Gary, how can you place North Korea on the neutral position? They are the ones, who gunned down the inteligent ship, Pueblo(?)and killed American guards with ax. They still hide the neuclear development. They still send spies down to South.
I believe we have to prepare for much blood and patience to go into Afganistan. And we need more than full supports for our guys.
Here is an article from the Times about howh difficult to win over there;
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,248-2001321244,00.html
(Anybody teach me how to patch article?)
A segeant master, who lives in San Francisco called a talk show (KGO)this morning, said his daughter in Air Force and his son gratuated at Westpoint and going for infantry. They are all his children. They talked about going to a war. They are ready to serve and sacrifice their lives for the country. His job is "shooting enemy in the trench and bring his men alive" as many as he can. He wants us to discuss or argue whatever we want to do but not to act like Jane Ponda did in public in Vientnam War. North Vietnam used her for their propaganda. I totally agree with him.
For one thing to keep bothering me, how we are going to do after we win or take out terrorists? In case of my home country, Korea, it takes for almost 50 years to be a democratic country. Before that, we had had monarchy system for more than 2500 years. At one time, Buddist monks had a lot of influence on domestic politics but was never half close to not power of the catholic pope had in the Middle Ages in Europe.
Koreans did not know anyhing about democratic system. They had to learn from scratch. Also, they had to be educated for all subjects and for a long period of time and many of them became more middle class. That is the base of today's democracy over there.
Without separation between religion and politics, without education, and without middle class how do we change their way of life and thought? We may export our Muslim clergies to them to teach them (gg). As far as a few group of people such as dictators and king or princes hold all fortune and provide their people with money such as Saudi Arabia and others, they can totally control their people with police power. Therefore, there is very few chance to develop democratic Muslim world.
Even if we bomb and get rid of extreme eliments and we don't deal with the real cause, they will be back with more hatred and more fanatics as it is now. It may take five years or ten years but the radical elements will be back with help of other dictators. They don't have any experience for democratic process like Koreans had not. Instead, they had as bloody history as Koreans. Koreans fought over 3000 times in a small and large scale wars with foreign invaders mostly Chinese and Japanese for over 5000 years. They don't how to live in peace.
With my token knowlege of history, only Turks has changed their government with democratic process and without bloodshed. Even this country has to deal with very serious threat from Islamic fundamentalists. Already political powers has been chipped away. As happened in Pakistan, I am not surprised at the news that many young military officers secretly joined the fundamentalists. How do we deal with them? How do we help billions of people to change?
With help of advanced science, it may be very easy to build and bring a briefcase-size nuke in the near future. Can you believe how much casualties do we going to have? To eliminate the terrorists are just a beginning not the end. Without it, we cultivate more fanatics.
For another problem I see, we have another fundamentalists here. Do you hear what Jerry Fawell(?) said? If he achieves what he said, the radical Christians will expell all Jews, of course Arabs, and me Asians as well as jail all gay-lesibians, women with abortions, etc. Later he may ask Italian or German or Russian blood to go home too if he is Anglo-Saxon(gg). I believe we have to deal with this problems including someones like Thimothy Mcbabe(?).
I really want to hear other people's opinion what we are going to do about it after war?

In my opinion Pakistan is the pivot, we have got them on our side that was most important. The nest of terror lies in Afghanistan, the Northern Province of Pakistan that produces ‘Mullahs the Sunni brand the worst of the kind,’ and ‘Hamas the natural collaborators in the Gaza,’ Syria blow hot blow cold attitude is un-condonable get ALL these crooks they represent the cocktail along with Iraqi regime, Powel did a mistake to let Saddam live after US was at Qaddisiyah ready to flush out Saddam within a day. We cannot any more afford that, lock them up or clean them, I am fed up of seeing children and innocent man dying, no stopping now, liberals and human life lovers may get out of the way. It will to hard to handle. It is and should be an open war. The martyrs of WTC is calling us, clean this mess up, it is our duty otherwise blood of every single martyr of WTC will haunt us until we live for future, -uck the markets at the moment. Get these guys. Now that US has resolve, we have directions to clean them. It is Afghanistan, North of Pakistan, Gaza get in, West Bank, Iraq, Syria and Libya. This is the array of forces we are confronted with, in order of importance all stand to be flushed out, the eastern province of Dharan, the out skirts of Bahrain. And Iran needs to behave properly and allow its reformist to govern after 20 years they have realized that revolution has failed. My friend was with Musharraf on Bateux Mouche when he was last in Paris, over drinks Musharraf asked him what I should do to break the impasse, my friend said go ahead and recognize Israel, we have no problems with Israel, we should go ahead after this terror campaign finishes to recognize the state, everyone else like Arafat the good guy and bad will falling place, but it s a very difficult task we need help, we need commitment from US that we will not be used like a toilet paper and thrown away like last time in Afghanistan against USSR. Our issue of Kashmir is dead and we need to make bridges with our neighbors India. It is a long wish list but that all has to be done, I feel so bad that if these guys would have kept the outposts and maintain the external strength to have the external defense of the great US, we need it, until Romans defended Rome to the extent of Danube what they called external defense they never crumpled once the were isolated the whole thing had fallen, the Praetorian Guards were out for selling to the highest bidders, we lost it big time on external outposts, the liberals who did that should look and see the price US paid. .

I agree and copy of my 2nd request..to everyone who has used it so far.. I hope they change..asap.
<Dear editor..
The darkets day a serious typo oversight makes this sentence give absolutely opposite meaning..
<The attack on World Trade Center and its associated human loss of life is ironically may be too small a price for what has changed for humanity today>
Please change it to..
<The attack on World Trade Center and its associated human loss of life is coincidentally may be too large a price for what has changed for humanity today>
Iqbal Latif
That is a long article and I am getting caught up on my reading. You make some very good statements and you state your beliefs articulately. Thus you can understand me anger on that one statement. To me it was appauling and I do not think you would want some one to read that statement wrong.
Here we make an attempt to discover the underlying reasons on how, from ashes of failed backward regions emerged a great civilization, which bestowed the world with major contributions in science, architecture and culture.
And we can show that in nearly every culture and regardless of skin color.
:=) Gary Swancey
I would not have gone nutz if the sentence was properly proofed.
The attack on World Trade Center and its associated human loss of life is ironically maybe too small a price for what has changed for humanity today
the sentence shoudl have been worded this way IF and I say IF this what you were trying to convey.
The attack on World Trade Center and its associated human loss of life is coincidentally maybe too large a price for what has changed for humanity today
That to me would have been an adnmirable statement of fortitude. Any loss of life to pay for a change in humanity is to great
Again if this is not the way you meant it then I will wait for the true meaning. Irony and coincident are a common error.

Rise and fall
Islamic apathy vs 400 years of forgotten renaissance
By Iqbal Latif, Paris
August 28, 2001
The Iranian
Failed Islamic revolutions in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan have bewildered the Islamic world which is going through a shock therapy at its fringes with fragmentation process and failed nation states, foremost amongst mentioned is Afghanistan, hypocritically representing a model of "successful" welfare state; implementing true Islam, where women are let to die during breached pregnancies in the absence of female doctors (which are very few), as male doctors are prohibited to perform caesarian sections on female patients.
Such aggressive portrayal of Islam has even found its negative implications in orthodox Iran, where public flogging, according to the Islamic government there, depicts a poor image of Iran globally. Is Islam about public flogging, or hand chopping, denial of basic human rights to women and all human beings, and above all, denial of inquiry into human thought processes? Certainly not. The extremist fringe has mutilated the true picture of Islam and its historical benevolence and patronage of culture and science. The Islamic revolutions, with Shiacentric and Sunnicentric governments in Tehran and Kabul, are at each other's throats accusing each other of revisionism with both proclaiming to be the standard-bearers of Islam.
A true Islamic society would be a successful Islamic state. A state, which is unable to provide its masses with basic necessities; a state, where its citizens en masse hijack its own domestic flights to demand asylum in the West, is a state that has failed its citizens. It is ironic that in the Golden Age of Islam, it was the persecuted Jews and Christians who would seek refuge in Islamic states.
A failed state has no right to call itself an Islamic state if it has failed vis a vis its citizens. Prosperity, health and well-being, freedom of thought and expression (Ijtihad and Ijtima) and building of consensus are all denied in the so-called Islamic states. The ecclesiastically-dominated nations are out on a vendetta against mankind in the name of Islam, much like the Spanish Inquisition, devouring and deflowering the basic moral fabric and purity of Islamic thought process.
Here we make an attempt to discover the underlying reasons on how, from ashes of failed backward regions emerged a great civilization, which bestowed the world with major contributions in science, architecture and culture.

I have asked them to change.. the sentence, they will hopefully do it..I had sent it ealier, the topic was made better, by the editors. There even they could not figure the error..I got this from a US soldier..
Sir,
I am an American soldier that wishes to thank you for the honesty that is contained in this particular article. I have read other Iranian news articles and found them filled with unbelieveable lies about the events of this past week. I agree with you on many points. I ask you to consider some points, however. What actions have we taken in retribution against your country for taking our embassy personnel hostage in 1980? What actions did we take against the Lebanese for their actions in killing over 270 of our military personnel in 1983? What of all the murders that Osama bin Laden has committed against our nation and our nation's people in the many acts of terrorism he has masterminded? We have taken none. Is this because we are weak? If we are weak then why are the Iraqis no longer in Kuwait? We are a nation of peaceful people who wish nothing but peace. We support Israel for many reasons but often disapprove of their methods. However, they are the only Middle Eastern power who allows us the opportunity to be their friends. Rest assured that the Palestinians living within the borders of Israel would have a much more difficult time of surviving if the US did not keep the Israelis in check. For that we are hated. We are accused of much that we have no control over but we have accepted the hatred the world feels for us. That is, until now. Whatever mistakes in foreign policy my young country has made should not be paid for with such terror. I know you know this. We stand ready to accept all Islamic nations as our friends just as we accept citizens of all races and religions. We cannot afford, however, to trust those individuals and those nations who profess so much hate for us anymore. Let us grow and learn together. Let us nurture each other and try to understand each other. Hate brings the events we have witnessed this past week. When such hate is expressed, we have no option but to react with all the force we have at our disposal. The world will soon see that America is not weak. I thinnk it is unfortunate, however, that all along nobody seemed to notice that we could be patient, tolerant and understanding. Nobody gave us credit for holding back our anger when our citizens were being murdered by those who did not care to try to understand us or the world we live in. That opportunity has no passed and, as a soldier of the U.S. army, I can promise that the future holds severe pain for our enemies. We did not want this but it has come. Again, I want to thank you for your compassion and honesty. Your article was the first in the Iranian news that I came across that seemed to strive for understanding. May God be with us all.
Iqbal Latif
Ike I can;t find "Apathy" but I did see where you changed the title to "Darkest Day", which I think was a solid change. However, I see the sentence is unchanged.
COuld you get the URL for APathy ... I will continue to look.

Taking a stand ... and giving credit where credit is due
http://www.iranian.com/JahanshahJavid/2001/September/Terror3/index.html
By Jahanshah Javid

The Iranian
We must draw the line. We must make it perfectly clear where we stand. We must take a stand against religious fanaticism. We must reject and confront the darkest forces of evil terrorizing the Middle East and the free world in the name of God.
***
I never thought that at this age, after outgrowing the Iranian revolution, and political and religious extremism, I would utter such loaded cliches as "the free world" and "evil". But this is no time for "balance" and "moderation". We must take a stand.
This is no time to feel sorry for those who commit cold-blooded mass murder on such a calculated and horrific scale. This is no time to "understand" why fanatics spill blood so unconscionably, so zealously, so enthusiastically. This is no time to justify, minimize or ignore their savagery.
It is time that we, as Iranians, as Arabs, as Middle Easterners, as Muslims, as Jews, as human beings, stand up and confront those who so callously commit unspeakable crimes in our name, in the name of Divine Justice, in the name of the Almighty.
And it is time to stop blaming America.
***
It took what seemed like an eternity to write that last sentence. Why? Why is it so difficult to utter what I believe in? Why am I so cautious in acknowledging how great the United States is? Why do I sense fear? Why do I feel surrounded by angry faces pointing at me and branding me a foolish, naive traitor?
Am I bowing to the surge in American patriotism? Am I fearful of what my American neighbors may do to me if I tell them I'm Iranian? I don't think so. I love America, its democracy, its open society, its diversity, and its broad, institutional respect for freedom of thought and expression.
The problem is that these basic, secular, humanistic principles are not always reflected in American foreign policy. American presence in the Middle East has little to do with freedom. It is more about power, resources, money. Most people in the Middle East live under American-backed regimes which deny basic freedoms. But with all its imperfections, who could argue that America is by far the most humane world power in history?
***
I feel like crap for writing all this. Miserable. I love America and yet I'm ashamed to admit it. I don't recall a discussion with friends -- Iranian or American -- where we would simply point out how great this country is or give it credit for anything good, decent and honorable. It's so "uncool". We constantly criticize. In wanting things to be BETTER, we forget that a lot of things are pretty damn good the way they are.
The funny thing is, I don't consider myself "American", despite the fact that, technically, I'm American. I have been an American citizen since birth. My grandmother was American. My mother was born in Manhattan. I went to high school and college here. I live and work here. In many ways, I think and act American. But American, I'm not.
I'm Iranian. I publish iranian.com, remember? I will sit behind this computer and count the ways I love Iran until I'm physically unable. To do that, I have to be free. To achieve our full potential as human beings, to enjoy life to the fullest, we must be free. That is America's invaluable gift to all of us. Let us be grateful and show our appreciation in its time of need.
I think this fully expresses the internal and external turmoil of the middle east. Freedom is not something to take lightly and any attack on freedom is an attack on the world.
TOUCHE' to this gentleman.

I come back home to find this letter to President of Pakistan by my son Rayhan ....I cried \ I brought up great kids.. we fight with best of our ability..with brains..
Sir, I am a Pakistani student currently studying abroad. I would like to firstly congratulate you on what has thus far been an exemplary performance as leader of our country. Your performance has made a refreshing break from the usual petty politics that has plagued our country in the past.
Sir, we are at a most critical junction in our history as a nation. The Islamic Fundamentalist groups have claimed a "great victory" in the name of Islam after the tragedies in America in the last week. They do not realize that they have signed their death warrants. America has been shocked into action, the mood has darkened they are baying for blood and they will get it. They will look at the total and utter destruction of the factions and countries behind this act. I ask of you to simply let them and come out publicly in support of them. It is our opportunity to make a clean break from these nefarious and aggressive factions that have blocked our progress towards success. 6000 Pakistanis have been killed in the last 5 years due to sectarian violence. To what end? To what purpose? We have resorted to posting guards at our mosques. Islam was supposed to be a great uniter not a divider. Why have we allowed ourselves to be subjected to blackmail to semi educated kalashinkov wielding hypocrite mullahs who spit out mindless rhetoric while ignoring the true message of Islam. The Taleban has mutated into one of the worlds most gigantic mis-creation. Their self destructive, incompetent and retarded approach towards managing Afghanistan has earned them few admirers and with very little effort they have managed to turn themselves into the worlds greatest freak show. Our supposed close attachment to them has also brought little but flak for our country. Their chaotic tenure is coming to an end now, America will ensure that now. Stand by America on this issue, let them take out our bad rubbish.
The very role of Islam within our society needs to be re examined. Is it possible to establish a social and economic setup in any country successfully based solely on the teachings of the Quran? No Sir, it is impossible. It is simply too abstract to implement within a country. Each person unto his own. Sir I realize this leaves you in an unenviable position. Change is always difficult but it is what propels us forward. It is time for someone to come forward and with great courage admit what most of us know but never say. That Politics and Religion are not natural bed fellows.
I realize that running Pakistan is not the easiest of jobs at the best of times especially not now. I would like to end by expressing my solidarity with my country and to you, a man whom I am finally proud to call the leader of my country. You have proven yourself to be a man of great steel and resolve. I admire you Sir. You have it within you to rewrite the destiny of our country and to radically change both our image and attitude for years to come. One day I will return and give something back to my country. One day hopefully.
Iqbal Latif
The US should demand Budbir base from Pakistan, that is the base where Gary Powell flew his U2 on spying mission over USSR in 1962, Khrushchev then threatened Pakistan, that we have circled Peshawer as nuclear target. The nest of the terrorists is the NWFP region and the mullah producing factories what we call Darul Ulooms, read my previous article on www.iranian.com uder the title of "Apathy." This needs Pakistan to be on our side, imagine fall of Pakistan to a fundamentalist leadership and a installation of Islamic Taleban type government in Islamabad. In my opinion, Pakistan has to be advanced staging point to clean out the nest of the terrorists that is what USA is demanding from Pakistan and that is what Pakistan has to give. If they refuse, the focal point will be Pakistan-Afghanistan northern areas. But I am very sure that the Liberal elements within Pakistan army like Turkey and Egypt will be part of the US Nato alliance to break the nest of horrors...
Iqbal Latif
Ike ... I have not detected that evil exist in your heart. That is where truest evil lies. Not in Nations or religions or civilizations. The cartels, cults and other small groups who sole purpose is to harm civilization as whole are the evil.
Brainwashed sheep or weak minded followers become an extension to the evil in a few.
But you are right in that article though that the US may not know how to play in this Holy War and reamifications could come from it if he is not careful. Carpet bombing is not the answer but surgically hitting selective targets to hurt the terrorist should be the focus.
I await to see just how the US will seek out and destroy terrorism.
:=) Gary Swancey
That is what was driving me crazy. When I told you I got sick reading it and could not get past one part I figured you would have reread it to see what was distrubing. When that did not happened I felt that you meant it and that was my focus and the reason for my presistence.
:=) Gary Swancey
Ike spelling errors and porr grammar is my signature (Bardology) since I came on line. I even had or use to have a thread called Bardology. It was a place to share jokes and be comical.
I do not agree with other opinions being squahed or censored that have a true underlying basis.
:=) Gary Swancey
Honestly now I got it, I will change it to 'large,' the right construction.. I am grateful..that sentence you could imagine was not re-read or edited.. I will now change it..
Iqbal Latif
Thanks Bard, I understand where you came from, my next five generations would think ten times to use that word 'ironic' honestly once you told me I realized, that I thought if I change you will think that I am intellectually a bankrupt person, I went back to change could not just deleted it. Of course Zack was upset to.
Now let me give you a little background the article was written yesterday after a call from Al Qabas, the answer was dictated to Samira she sent that dictation back to me on e-mail, I posted it to places in my part of the world without rereading it, honestly even I would have read I could not have possibly picked it up. Zack thought that it has to go here to, he went ahead to post. rest is 24 hours of agony, but I don't really work too much, Bard ,, my mind works whatever I get and I think I write, sometime it is utter non-sense others it is good for some but I like that originality to be maintained.
I like everyone else read the news I paste them, than my thinking process starts that some friends call it a spin, but whatever it is . I think and I write, rarely do I even pass this through words, for that lot of spelling mistakes and of course other mistakes, what is my agenda nothing, I owe it to the country that broke my poverty, US did that I will do everything for it, period. That is my religion, the constitution my holy book. Thanks once again.//
