I am an American soldier that wishes to thank you for the honesty that is contained in this particular article. I have read other Iranian news articles and found them filled with unbelieveable lies about the events of this past week. I agree with you on many points. I ask you to consider some points, however. What actions have we taken in retribution against your country for taking our embassy personnel hostage in 1980? What actions did we take against the Lebanese for their actions in killing over 270 of our military personnel in 1983? What of all the murders that Osama bin Laden has committed against our nation and our nation's people in the many acts of terrorism he has masterminded? We have taken none. Is this because we are weak? If we are weak then why are the Iraqis no longer in Kuwait? We are a nation of peaceful people who wish nothing but peace. We support Israel for many reasons but often disapprove of their methods. However, they are the only Middle Eastern power who allows us the opportunity to be their friends. Rest assured that the Palestinians living within the borders of Israel would have a much more difficult time of surviving if the US did not keep the Israelis in check. For that we are hated. We are accused of much that we have no control over but we have accepted the hatred the world feels for us. That is, until now. Whatever mistakes in foreign policy my young country has made should not be paid for with such terror. I know you know this. We stand ready to accept all Islamic nations as our friends just as we accept citizens of all races and religions. We cannot afford, however, to trust those individuals and those nations who profess so much hate for us anymore. Let us grow and learn together. Let us nurture each other and try to understand each other. Hate brings the events we have witnessed this past week. When such hate is expressed, we have no option but to react with all the force we have at our disposal. The world will soon see that America is not weak. I thinnk it is unfortunate, however, that all along nobody seemed to notice that we could be patient, tolerant and understanding. Nobody gave us credit for holding back our anger when our citizens were being murdered by those who did not care to try to understand us or the world we live in. That opportunity has no passed and, as a soldier of the U.S. army, I can promise that the future holds severe pain for our enemies. We did not want this but it has come. Again, I want to thank you for your compassion and honesty. Your article was the first in the Iranian news that I came across that seemed to strive for understanding. May God be with us all.
