Did you see Tyson after the match? His eye was swollen, his nose was bleeding – it looked like he had been on a date with himself. - Jay Leno
Did you see Tyson after the match? He was very nice, he even kissed Lennox Lewis mom on the cheek. Maybe he just needs his ass kicked every day! - Jay Leno
mr.mark Makes sense....
Lewis Floors Tyson in eighth round.
http://www.SportsLine.com
Returning to his corner (after round one), Lewis was immediately told by trainer Emanuel Steward, "If you could see how bad he looks, you'd be surprised."

"Mike Tyson has always known that he couldn't beat Lennox Lewis. He knew it in 1996, when he paid Lewis $4 million in step-aside money so that he could first face the softer Bruce Seldon for WBA title. He knew it a few months later when he vacated the WBC title rather than face Lewis, his mandatory challenger. He knew it in New York, when his press-conference scuttle with Lewis seemed like an easy way to get out of the fight. And he knew it in Memphis, where boxing officials had set up a ring in which Tyson would pay for his crimes against the sport. As the one-time Baddest Man on the Planet was lead to the ring by his team of yes-men, the aggressive scowls and overflowing energy Tyson flaunted at the weigh-in were replaced by a bounce-free stroll and a look of concern. Mike Tyson was in for a beating... and he knew it."

glad you enjoyed the pics.
outside of tyson's abilities and inabilities as a boxer, i believe two things about the man...
one, he is pretty mixed up, mentally
and two,
he is a successful self-promoter.
when i read in that boxingchronicle.com article that....
"Tyson has long been a shell of his former self, propped up by investors who want their end back"
.... i suddenly viewed tyson as the fight game's equivalent of a pump and dump.
makes sense, doesn't it
:)
mr mark, Thx. for all the great pictures...
Tyson had such talent and potential when he was young. Then he became so arrogant and cocky. I heard on the radio once that he said to a reporter "The best thing that will ever happen to you in life, is right now, being able to talk to me." What a punk.
"Simply put, this was by far the worst beating Mike Tyson has ever taken. Worse than the Douglas beating, much worse than the Holyfield KO. And it wasn't that much of a surprise. Tyson looked overweight and listless. He was exhausted after two rounds, and timid after only one. His skills have gone past eroded. Many of them are extinct. Lennox Lewis has been sporting some grey hair recently, but Mike Tyson looked older than George Foreman for much of this fight. For anyone who saw past the Tyson mystique and really looked at his recent outing, this was no surprise. Tyson has long been a shell of his former self, propped up by investors who want their end back. Perhaps the only surprise for Tyson-watchers was that he fought within the rules and didn't quit on his stool. Then again, Tyson was beaten so badly that he probably wasn't aware that fouling out was an option."

wonder if mike looked any better getting knocked out this time then when he was crawling around on all fours after the buster douglas fight
and STILL....
:)
"Everybody has a plan until they get hit," he said. If Lewis' plan is to come out aggressively, "he'll do what he's told until the first shot whistles by his ear. Then he'll do what he has to do. He'll be conservative."
- Evander Holyfield
wonderful pics, mr. mark...
thank you.
lol!!
that's awesome dood..
seriously....my hubby and i were feeling "his pain" and just wanted that fight stopped...it was a good fight, but a rematch is definitely in order.
"I have a cut in the middle of my forehead, and an extra head on my head," Rahman said.
Check out the picture...
Looks like me after I try day trading. LOL

Black Rhino vs White Buffalo!
By George Mahl
An potentially explosive heavyweight bout between Clifford "The Black Rhino" Etienne [24-1, 17KOs] and Frans "White Buffalo" Botha [44-4-1, 28KOs] will take place on July 27 on Showtime, according to promoter Les Bonano. In order to avoid going head to head with the proposed Ruiz-Johnson fight on HBO, the Showtime Championship Boxing card will likely be only an hour long.

maybe ruiz has a steel plate of his own.
:)
glad to hear that you and mr. peel saw things the way i did.
i think rahman gave a decent accounting of himself, leaving lots of room for improvement, however.
i kept thinking throughout the fight how john ruiz was able to stand in against holyfield and beat him.
ruiz had to contend with that same steel plate.
:)
put another way, rahman butted himself. holyfield's head was there, and rahman hit it with his own forehead.<<
yes sir he did...
mr. peel and i both noted this at the time.....bottom line is if you are going to lean into holyfield, count the cost...he must have a "metal plate in his head"...(quote from Rahman)....
the thing that impressed me about holyfield was even though he would rest after his barrages...he seemed to deal with the fact that he recognizes that he is a geezer and needs to pace himself correctly....i do believe if he didn't rest, he would simply punch himself out..and make himself easy pickings for rahman's right hook.
i also agree with you about foreman....we love the guy...his commentary is excellent. any boxer watching the replay paying heed to his remarks is getting some very fine pugilistic tutelage on the cheap.
all in all i thought it was an excellent fight, and as you know, i'm not terribly keen on the heavyweight division.
Barrera in 20 days.
:)
holyfield did look good. and i had him ahead also.
a couple thoughts on the fight, if i may....
george foreman, imo, makes very astute observations from ringside. foreman said that rahman should jump on holyfield after holyfield throws 5 or 6 punches, because holyfield always needs time to recuperate after one of his patented barrages (i hesitate to call what holyfield throws a flurry <g3>). foreman is correct, imo. rahman could have been doing much better in the fight if he had gotten into the rhythm of attacking after holyfield had temporarily expended his energy.
the other thought concerns holyfield's reputation as a head-butter. the replay shows that in the few seconds leading up to the clash of heads, holyfield's head was more or less stationary, and rahman's head was moving. put another way, rahman butted himself. holyfield's head was there, and rahman hit it with his own forehead.
now one might contend that holyfield has raised the art of fighting with his head to such a high level of finesse that he knows precisely where to position his own noggin to ensure that his opponent's noggin will come into contact with it. <g3> and maybe they would be right. maybe he is that skillful. football quarterbacks sometimes throw a pass where they think their receiver is going to be, so that the ball is there waiting for the receiver. they let the receiver run to the ball. maybe holyfield does pretty much the same thing with his head... maybe he leaves it out there where he thinks his opponent will run into it.
but the replay last night showed rahman's moving head clashing into holyfield's stationary head.
did you see it that way, loo-nah
i thought holyfield looked great for a geezer.
even without the headbutt, i felt he was winning the fight.
did you see it?
:)
i'd also like to see mike tyson crawling around on all fours again. maybe lennox lewis will make that happen. you think?
I would like to see that too.
but I don't really like holyfield.
i personally would like to see rahman KO holyfield
i have respect for holyfield
but i'd still like to see him get KO'd
he's been skating on thin ice for too long
it's about time he fell through
:)

Lord Ward to be disrobed
Boxing Notes/by George Kimball
Sunday, May 26, 2002
BOSTONHerald.com
Seven months remain in 2002, but last Saturday night's Micky Ward-Arturo Gatti fight has been more or less universally acclaimed the ``Fight of the Year,' if not ``Fight of the Century,' a unique distinction for a non-title bout. Ward advisor Lou DiBella does not overstate the case when he says ``this was a fight people will still be talking about 40 years from now.' HBO's Larry Merchant said witnessing it was a ``humbling' experience.
Now, off the strength of that electrifying performance, the Lowell junior welterweight has been invited to Canastota, N.Y., for the International Boxing Hall of Fame's induction weekend June 6-9. Ward has been asked to bring along the boxing robe he wore into the ring against Gatti for display at the Hall of Fame, which is good news for the Lowell Spinners, whose logo adorned Ward's trunks and robe. . . .

oh man...
i'm preparing myself for Barrera/Morales...
i'm not sure this fight can live up to expectation...
you know...i STILL have not seen Ward/Gatti.....
our friggin' cable was hosed for 3 days. now i will have to search for a tape.
:(
As Gatti was being taken to the hospital, he asked Lynch to go to the postfight news conference to ask Ward about a rematch. When Lynch arrived at the hospital a short time later, Gatti was lying in bed with an intravenous tube in his arm while being stitched up. His first words to Lynch: "So, did you ask him about a rematch?"

"The example that Gatti and Ward put forth for all of us is very important. I was very impressed by the sportsmanship and that hook to the body by Ward which I’ve never seen in a fighter outside of Mexico."
