Lord Ward to be disrobed

Seven months remain in 2002, but last Saturday night's Micky Ward-Arturo Gatti fight has been more or less universally acclaimed the ``Fight of the Year,' if not ``Fight of the Century,' a unique distinction for a non-title bout. Ward advisor Lou DiBella does not overstate the case when he says ``this was a fight people will still be talking about 40 years from now.' HBO's Larry Merchant said witnessing it was a ``humbling' experience.

Now, off the strength of that electrifying performance, the Lowell junior welterweight has been invited to Canastota, N.Y., for the International Boxing Hall of Fame's induction weekend June 6-9. Ward has been asked to bring along the boxing robe he wore into the ring against Gatti for display at the Hall of Fame, which is good news for the Lowell Spinners, whose logo adorned Ward's trunks and robe. . . .
