Agreed, $BA had decent news out, so I think it’ll bounce.
Not surprised. Not many were up.
Whole market was down. Every index was down 1.5% today.

That orange cylinder is a digital memory crash survival module. It could be from either the CVR or FDR.
And it looks quite intact.
This YouTube video shows what they (apparently) found.
This looks to me like just a part of the CVR. The CVR unit usually has those cylindrical units on the outside.
The Flight Data recorder is usually just a rectangular box.
Hope this link works:
One thing that may help the investigation is if ACARS was installed on the accident aircraft.
ACARS MAY have transmitted any faults seen, if it had the power and transmitter available to send them at the time any might have occurred.
Part of the ACARS system involves an automatic surveillance system of sensors that monitor the operation of many of the systems on board the aircraft.
Messages of faults are transmitted in real time to ground stations.
Here’s a little blurb about ACARS and the role it has played in other accident investigations (for those interested):

Huh. I don’t understand this passage in the story:
“The South China Morning Post, which is owned by the Chinese Alibaba Group, reported that the flight data “depicted a battle for control of China Eastern Airlines flight” as there appears to have been a temporary recovery in altitude followed by a second nosedive that took the plane straight into the ground.”
I don’t see any “recovery in altitude” from the ADS-B data that I see.
If they were “battling for control”, you’d think there would’ve been some type of communication with controllers at some point.

Yeah, agreed. The last data hit shows 465 knots, so that's nowhere near an overspeed.
Even if the pilots had lost control due to structural failure, autopilot, or runaway trim issues that data stream would still keep coming.
That airplane blew up in a moment. Why is the question...
Sure looks like some sort of catastrophic event.
Looks like the were cleared to an initial altitude of 290, stayed there for 4 minutes.
Then all Air Data ceased being transmitted via ADS-B. That’s certainly not normal.
Even if there was something like a dual engine failure (unheard of in this fay and age), the emergency busses would’ve still been powered and data transmitted.
Sure looks like it was blown out of the sky.
I can’t imagine an aircraft problem causing something like this, with no communication occurring between the pilots and controllers first.
Here is a link to the ADS-B flight tracking log. Everything looks nominal until the airplane levels off at Flight Level 290 and begins to accelerate.
Then the ADS-B data abruptly stops.
So something catastrophic (like an explosion?) must have occurred.

Boeing (BA) and 737 Crashes
By: Bespoke Investment Group | March 21, 2022
Shares of Boeing (BA) are down nearly 4% in today's session as of this writing on news of a fatal crash of one of the company's 737 jets in China. Any plane crash which results in fatalities is obviously a tragedy, and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families. While it's hard to pivot to the market-related implications of these types of events, investors in Boeing and related companies are obviously interested in how these types of events, whether due to mechanical or other issues, will impact their investments. Today's crash involved one of the company's 737-800 planes and not the 737-MAX (the variant which was involved in crashes in 2018 and 2019). At this point, there are no details regarding the cause of the crash, but details will likely be forthcoming in the days and weeks ahead.
In the chart below, we show the chart of BA since the start of 2000 and include red dots indicating each time that there has been a fatal incident involving a 737 (any generation of the plane). There have been a total of three dozen incidents internationally prior to today, and historically, these past events have not had any consistent impact on the performance of BA stock.
That being said, the immediate reaction in today's session is set to rank pretty high up on the list of worst declines after a crash involving a 737. Below we show the daily percent change of BA in the first session after a 737 variant had a fatal incident. As might be expected, the 737-MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 were the two worst single-day declines for the stock of these instances with drops of 6.59% and 5.33%, respectively. The Turkish Airlines Flight 1951 crash in 2009 ranks as the next largest drop of 4.32%. In general, since the 737 MAX issues surfaced, on news of any fatal incident involving 737s, investors have been quick to sell first and ask questions later.
The 737 Next Generation (abbreviated 737NG) which includes the 737-600, 700, 800, and 900 variants is the generation that Boeing produced from 1996 and ceased assembly of in 2019 as the company's production switched to the 737 MAX. Of the 737NG generation, the 800 variant (the variant involved in today's crash) is the most common. Given this, in the table below, we show those fatal incidents involving the 800 series since 2000 as well as the two MAX crashes given their importance in recent years. This was the seventh fatal incident involving this plane without any survivors.
Boeing's stock has mostly seen a negative reaction in response to these incidents and even though the next week has typically seen the stock rebound, performance over the next one and three months, especially since the issues with the MAX began, have tended to be followed by declines. Of course, each of these incidents has a fair degree of nuance to each one. For example, there are numerous reasons as to why these crashes occurred, and the majority had nothing to do with an inherent flaw in the BA aircraft. Whereas the 737-MAX problems were accredited to a design flaw, and thus are more directly negative for Boeing, many of the other incidents were on account of the flight crew or pilot error. Additionally, there is also the issue of poor timing like the early 2020 instances which lined up with the COVID crash. In other words, the weak performance following these crashes had more to do with factors outside of the crashes themselves. Again, any crash, whatever the cause, is a tragedy, but from a market perspective, it's important to differentiate between the cause behind them.

I think those Put traders are going to get KILLED once news comes out about the actual reason for this crash.

Put Traders Target Boeing (BA) Stock After 737 Jet Crash
By: Schaeffer's Investment Research | March 21, 2022
• A Boeing 737-800 jet with 132 people on board crashed in China
• Put volume is running at seven times the intraday amount
The shares of blue-chip aerospace concern Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) are down 56%, last seen trading at $181.24, after one of the company's 737-800 jets being operated by China Eastern Airlines crashed this in the mountainous Guangxi region. There were a total of 132 people on board, and the number of casualties has yet to be confirmed.
Just over three years ago, Boeing stock fell from an all-time high of $446.01 after its Boeing 737 MAX jet was involved two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. This resulted in an extended pullback, made worse by the pandemic-induced broader-market selloff, with BA finally finding a floor at the $95 area in March 2020. The equity has had a volatile run since then, rising as high as $278.57 in March 2021 though it's lost 28% in the last 12 months.
Bearish options traders are taking note of today's news. Already, 34,000 puts have crossed the tape, which is seven times the intraday amount. Most popular are the weekly 3/25 180- and 170-strike puts, with new positions opening at both contracts.

Boeing Alert: Trading the Stock After the 737 Crash in China
By: TheStreet | March 21, 2022
• Boeing stock is moving lower after a 737-800 crash in China. Here's the big-picture layout for the shares now.
Boeing (BA) shares have come off Monday's lows but remain down about 4% following a plane crash in China.
Boeing bulls simply can’t escape the negative headlines that have engulfed this company over the past few years, whether it was the 737 Max crashes, issues with management, a global pandemic or production issues.
In this specific incident, a Boeing 737-800 passenger jet operated by China's Eastern Airlines crashed in China around 4 a.m. U.S. Eastern.
While investors seem to have largely moved on from most of Boeing’s issues, the lack of momentum in new orders (largely as a result of Covid-19) has left the stock stuck.
It’s hard to imagine this situation being overlooked, given how the 737 Max situation played out.
How do the charts look now?
Trading Boeing Stock
Weekly chart of Boeing stock.
Chart courtesy of TrendSpider.com
Today’s action doesn’t wreck the charts for Boeing stock, but this name has struggled significantly since topping out about one year ago.
It’s below all its major daily and weekly moving averages, highlighting its complete lack of bullish momentum.
When I look at the chart, I also notice its series of lower highs, indicative of bearish momentum, while the VWAP measure has marked all three of its notable highs since summer.
But given Monday’s news, the fact that Boeing stock isn’t slumping or even approaching last week’s low is surprising.
On the upside, I’m watching the February low near $187. Below it and the stock is still in a monthly-down rotation. Back above it opens up last week’s high of about $193 and the declining 10-week moving average.
Above that puts $198.50 in play, which is the 50% retracement of the 2022 range. That's quickly followed by the 21-week moving average and the weekly anchored VWAP measure near $202.50.
If Boeing stock can somehow clear all these marks, it puts the 50-week moving average in play, followed by stiff resistance at the VWAP measure from the March 2021 high.
On the downside, the levels are easier to read.
A break of last week’s low at around $172.50 puts the March low in play near $167.50.
If Boeing stock rotates below this mark as well, traders will eventually start talking about the gap-fill level down at $158.47.

Both my Father and Brother are retired airline pilots (Father deceased from natural causes).
That being said - an overwhelming percentage of aircraft crashes are directly due to pilot error.
This latest China crash doesn’t seem like that is the case, due to the surrounding circumstances. Seems like that probably whatever happened was out of the pilots control and happened very quickly.
I’ve heard nothing regarding any mayday calls, or any conversation between the pilots and controllers about any problems.
Has anyone else heard of any?

Why Boeing Stock Is Down By 4% Today
By: Vladimir Zernov | March 21, 2022
• The stock made an attempt to settle below $181.
Boeing Stock Is Under Pressure After A Fatal Crash In China
Shares of Boeing found themselves under pressure after Boeing 737-800 crashed in China. The aircraft belonged to China Eastern Airlines and carried 132 people on board. China Eastern Airlines has decided to ground all of the company’s 737-800 planes.
Previously, Boeing had significant problems with 737 MAX in China. After two crashes, China grounded the plane for more than two and a half years.
China Eastern Airlines’ plane was not a 737 MAX, which will likely limit the stock’s downside in the near term. However, the market will likely remain extremely sensitive to any news about the ongoing investigation.
What’s Next For Boeing Stock?
Analyst estimates for Boeing have been moving lower in recent weeks. Currently, analysts expect that Boeing will report earnings of $3.02 per share in 2022 and $7.38 per share in 2023, so the stock is trading at roughly 25 forward P/E for 2023.
The company faced several strong headwinds this year, including high commodity prices and sanctions on Russia, which forced Boeing to cut ties with airlines and suppliers in the country.
However, it remains to be seen whether the crash of the Boeing 737-800 will serve as a longer-term catalyst for the company’s shares. Unless the investigation finds any problems that could be viewed as systemic, the market will likely view the crash as a separate incident.
At the same time, it should be noted that Boeing stock is not that cheap at current levels, so it may need additional catalysts to break the current downside trend.

It was security camera footage that helped in the Teterboro Learjet crash a few years ago. It gets gruesome at the end:
Odd that fast descent was caught so well on camera. Maybe there was a sound first? Maybe just a security camera pointed in the perfect direction?
Yup. Looks like that’s exactly what it is.
Like maybe the horizontal stab came off? If it was shedding airframe parts, those should be remote from the main impact site.
Wow!
Considering the speed and nearly vertical decent angle of the aircraft - I’m surprised they found pieces that big. They must’ve sheared off the airframe (due to the speed of descent) and angled away from the main crash site.
I fear they may not recover the DFDR or DCVR due to the speed of impact.
Perhaps the pilots were wearing masks?
No, all kidding aside this is a bad one:

I feel confident that this is not an aircraft issue but an act of terrorism.
There’s not much (systems wise) that could happen to an established airframe and engine combination that could cause it to plunge thousands of feet in mere minutes.
Has to be an explosive decompression type of thing.
They’ll get to the bottom of it.
Terrible! The last thing this World needs is more uncertainty.

Boeing Gains on Hopes of Bigger Order for F-15EX Jets, Bullish Baird
By: Investing.com | March 16, 2022
Boeing (NYSE:BA) stock traded 2.2% higher in premarket Wednesday on reports the Pentagon is likely to order more non-stealthy F-15EX jets in its next budget.
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. Air Force will request 24 non-stealthy F-15EX jets, up from 14 planned for the ongoing year that ends September 30.
The EX model carries more ordnance than Lockheed’s F-35 and is estimated to be cheaper to fly.
Boeing touts the jet as having a digital backbone, open system architecture, and one that’s a ready-now replacement for the F-15C. It has the capacity to carry hypersonic weapons, making it a key element of the U.S. Air Force’s tactical fighter fleet, according to Boeing.
The stock had closed 2.5% higher Tuesday after various airlines said travel demand remained robust, notwithstanding the ongoing conflict in Europe. They said they will trim flight frequencies to remain on track toward profits even as fuel prices rise.
Delta Air (NYSE:DAL) raised its annual guidance for the current quarter. The airline now sees revenue for the March quarter at 78% of 2019 levels, an improvement from the 72-76% forecast it gave two months ago.
In another boost for the stock, StreetInsider said Baird analyst Peter Arment has added Boeing to the firm’s list of bullish fresh pick stocks. The 737-MAX deliveries in China are getting closer with analysts expecting it to happen by April.
