I mean I have no problems with the relievers the Royals picked up; but I do think they overpaid for them. As for Dejong, I don't get it. Do they really need a back-up infielder with little speed, doesn't walk, can't hit, but occasionally pops one out of the park? He's cheap both in salary and in what they gave up... but I'd rather have kept Rosado and looked elsewhere.
But now that Dejong's wearing Royal Blue... please.... make my comments look stupid!!!!
To be fair to stanek if pete could field better (He could of touched first he had time, or made a much better throw, he scares me when he is throwing the baseball) he wouldn't of needed diaz help to get out of that inning. but I agree on the jury being out.
Very nice win, especially as this isn't the type of low-scoring contest that favours a bullpen like the Mets. Yup, the Maniac was amazin'. Stanek....the jury's still out there on that acquisition. Stearn's track record on deadline relivers in Milwaukee isn't that good, but I hope it works out.
Nice win by the mets today, back to the high water mark of the season being 7 over. Manaea was the best I have seen him, he was dominant today. And vientos with yet another homerun in this game his 15th of the season, he didn't even really play the 1rst 40+ games or so. I love watching him hit.
and against stud pitchin' so far
Jazz off to a sizzling start AB and in the field----3-run 2 strike go ahead HR off Strahm in the 7th---out-friggin'-standing plus a bomb earlier--that's 4 in his 1st 3 games and has already passed all 3B production this year
To old and not long enough with us
All that Jazz!
The chisholm move was the biggest, because I truely believe he has superstar potential. And you know I'm not a yankee fan. I liked the brazoban move a ton considering how much they were giving away for bullpen arms across the league, this guy is effective and has good stuff, and is actually under control. I think nobody cared because is 34 under team control. I think the age actually lowered the price if he was 28 they would of gave up a ton for him.
Raffy is too young to be captain
Paxton old enough?
Bit of a dud, this trading deadline. Lots of hype but little of consequence IMO. Very surprised to see both NY teams this inactive; maybe Leiter makes the difference in game 7 against the Astros, but I don't see it. Yanks would have better scooping the pirates and trading for IKF, who is having a great year...and they have the uniform ready to go.
The Mets keep on working the Stearns-cagey-small-market deals. Montas to the Brewers now looks like one of the flashier trades this season.
I think Cashman has done an excellent job considering the financial constraints they have put upon him.
Raffy is too young to be captain
Come`on now. The Captain has put his fresh, authentic, love-me-now brand squarely on the Yankees since inking his deal. Cashman is another story, but as a front-man, Cashman's best days are well behind him. Probably peaked when he declared the previous Captain "an above average shortstop in this league".
Sox have a captain? Raf over-qualified for the position?
All's fair when talking about the Evil Empire
Showing your true Sox fan colours: root for the injury to the opponent rather than cheering for your team to beat the best that's out there. Classic.
Red Sox get Luis Garcia from Angels
Flaherty to the dodgers. As usual the dodgers always get better.
He looked good against the mets lineup. He is older, but he is pitching very well this season. The fact that he is 34 and under team control is shocking, but he has pitched very well this season, and the little they gave up for him I love this trade.
As the Yankees welcomed Mark Leiter Jr. into their bullpen, they sent away Caleb Ferguson.
The lefty, acquired in the offseason from the Dodgers, was sent to the Astros in exchange for a minor leaguer and international bonus pool money
Can't say I'm thrilled. Not even sure he is better than megill. All I think he is good for is depth. That it. Gave up a pitcher with a little potential in high A ball, I would of rather they stretch Butto out and use him as a starter. Than give up much of anything for this guy. Can't go nuts, because this is not the trade to do so. But I expected much better today, and to say I'm not disappointed would be lying at this point.
General body fatigue, whatever that is.
Nah, it's the Mets I'm sure of it---they've taken him deep 7 times in 9.2 innings---if he threw his normal 200 innings all against the Mets, they'd have 150+ dingers against him
Hey he could of got that pitching batting practice to Judge
He strained his neck watching balls fly out of Yankee Stadium---whiplash
What happened in his last start?
The New York Mets are finalizing a deal to acquire right-handed starter Paul Blackburn from the Oakland A’s, sources tell ESPN.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) July 30, 2024
Cole scratched tonite----hasn't recovered from last start---same thing that put him on the shelf---oops
Will Warren up for a spot start
He is a good get for us. We probably will have overpaid but that is what the market is. Making the playoffs could be the boost that the fans need to re-spark interest that has died some since about 2017
Looks like your getting ecreg for the A's. Your organization is trying. I hope they make the playoffs, I really do. Hopefully the mets can help them out over the next couple of days in my opinion.
We need more than Paxton as a SP. He’s pitching tonight and I expect him to get lit up. Let’s see if we can land something more respectable
Good news look like the Sox acquired a reliever in Lucas sims from the reds.
Looks like the yanks have acquired leiter jr from the cubs.
Orioles get trevor rodgers for the marlins. he is okay, but nothing great.
Meanwhile time is running out. Is small market David Sterns gonna drop the ball. 1 more quality reliever and 1 quality starter, or a disappointment. it is really that simple. And don't want to here about the prospects. This team has one of the best offense I've seen over the year, you need a sp it is painfully obvious go get one. And a bullpen arm would be nice too.
What do you mean let’s hope not?
I agree with you. He will probably finish runner-up to Judge. Rightfully so as the way things look right now
Witt Jr is a lock for MVP finalist barring a collapse, but Judge's power numbers are going to make it hard. Maybe there's an injury or a weird, huge slump on Judge's part, but let's hope not.
You make great points and I actually agree with you.(Unlike some of my fellow KC baseball fans. LOL). Judge is crushing it this year. However, Witt is also playing Gold Glove caliber Defense. He is leading the league in hits and runs scored. Both by a wide margin.(He is also second in triples) He is hitting .488 in July with 16 extra base hits and has been held hitless only once in July. Okay, the July numbers are cherry picking but you get my point.
Judge is playing CF for the most part(A premium position). It is closer than you would think. But I see a scenario where judge breaks his record if he gets red hot, and than there is nothing witt can do to top that including hitting 400+ between now and the end of the season. But in a normal year or if he was in the NL the answer would be the MVP, although I might be fair on Ohtani there. but it would be close with ohtani.
Here is the problem Judge lead baseball in WAR, Homer, RBIS, OBP, Slugging, OPS. Witt in any other year would have a good shot, this year not so much. Doesn't change the fact Witt is having a great year, and might lead the royals to the playoffs.
In the meantime we will see if the mets can continue to help the royals with the twins. All is just my opinion of course.
if your not busy during the day. Why not just watch it live during the daytime, and than you can watch the yankee game live and there is no conflict. Although if the girls gymnast lose the team competiton it would be as shocking, as the marlins making the playoffs in 2024. Maybe a slight oversell, but you get the point. even if things don't go perfectly they should still win.
Looking for some outside opinions. Can an argument be made or even a discussion be had that Witt Jr could be the MVP over Judge? He is producing both offense and defense at a premium postition
In any event Yankees win big last night and the Orioles lost and now the Yanks are a 1/2 game out.
Mutts and the Red Sox also won big as well.
The girls compete tonight in gymnastics. And I'll check in on the Yanks.
Gleyber Torres' postgame comments might put him back in Yankees doghouse
Classic stuff.

I don't have a clue what Boone is thinking. Torres playing 3B?
Yankees reportedly pushing for bombshell Jack Flaherty trade, floating Nestor Cortes

Sounds like a Cashman trade.
We will take it as Marsh has really been struggling
How good has Snell been lately?
2 runs in his last 4 starts for 24 innings total since coming back from the injury. I say that is good. with his salary might not require as many prospects if you take all the money. That is the appeal here if your the mets for me.

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
