Yup, some really ugly games in Milwaukee lately. Gotta hope they find some life within the next week because another opening round playoff loss would be very hard to accept for fans.
Right now I fear the brewers are gonna get swept by the d-backs with the way they are playing. Hopefully they put the same effort against the mets last 3 games. This is what we call the roll over and blank strategy. I let you figure out what the blank stands for. LOL.
Difference is Acuna is doing it in the heart of a playoff race with a team that is desparate to make the playoffs and currently taking the place of the guy who is going to finish runner up in the NL MVP race. Versus dominguez to team that was going nowhere fast last year. So the spot is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different in my opinion.
Also Alvarez has hit like 5 homers in his last 11 games, he seems like he is figured it out. Loving the idea of having a catcher who can hit at the bottom of the lineup as well.
Luisangel Acuña is having a 2023 Jasson Domínguez MLB debut.
Trey Sweeney makes a game-saving crazy play in the bottom of the 9th after Foley, the Tiger's closer who has been very good, blows a save and had the losing run on 3b with none out, and sends the game to xtras...Tigers win it in the 10th---big time playoff implication win for Detroit
Acuna Hits another Homer, he has looked really good so far. Don't know if he turns out to be a player, but for the rangers to take 1/2 of Max Scherzer contract essentially (Who I knew was done last year when he was traded) and give a good prospect like this, was actually a good move eppler made. Yes apparently he could make a good move.
On a positive note francisco Alvarez is finally starting to really hit, which is a huge plus.
Lindor is still not in the lineup and sounds like tuesday at the earliest. Although I think the mets are still good, I do believe missing lindor is huge and not sure they will survive this stretch still without him. You can overcome a little while, but the longer run, they need lindor and this is starting to take very long in the most key part of the season against good competition.
Nice to see JD Martinez out of the lineup he is only 0 for like his last 31. When is he gonna get a hit.
we get Skenes next Saturday--hope it doesn't matter
If it wasn't for the "ghost runner" rule the Yankees bullen would be all burned out.
I get it as I tried to point out pitching was the answer as it enabled the Yanks to go 10-4 in a stretch with 8 Mendozas in the lineup....----Yanks have 14 double digit games which has skewed their RS to the upside...
I hear fans complain about this all the time. Offense no matter how good it is, comes and goes. The number will average out but asking it too be consistent is highly unlikely for any team. I mean I was complaining about the mets during the 3 week stretch where there offense disappeared. I get it. But the nature of the game a really good hitter fail 70% of the times, hence there are gonna be stretches where they fail much more than that, and often times these moment happen where it happens to the whole team at once. Which is why I believe on building a team through pitching, because it can be more consistent assuming it stays healthy. But expecting your offense to say give you 5 runs a night because that is what you average is unrealistic.
It get to 5 runs a night because you get a number of high single digit, low doubit digit run games, and it stays at 5 runs a night because you have 0 and a number of low single digit run games. The point is you can be #1 in offense, but still that means runs are gonna come sporadically, the number overall will say your #1 but if you expect consistency and fans for some dumb reason do, heck I complain about it myself, but it is in the nature of sport for runs to be sporadic, it will average out, but there will unfortunetley be many ups and down along the way in my opinion.
Better hope the pitching holds up which has been outstanding....Yanks are 10-4 in their last 14...given up 2 or less in 8 of those, 3 in two, 4 in two, and a 5 and a 7....
Yanks lead the AL in runs scored---shudder to think where they'd be without Judge and Soto...amazing to have this many slumpers during this last 10-4 game stretch
Wells...163
Rizzo...200
Volpe...182
Verdugo...200
Soto...205
Stanton...152
Trevino...000
Jazz...159
Martian...214
Fortunately, they lost along with us last night. Lol
Although the Yankees are winning there is a disturbing trend. It should not be taking them 10 innings or more to win a game.
What's going to happen when they face much better teams in the post-season.
It is not that I think the mets aren't better than the brewers and that is a plus if the dodgers and the phillies pull away. Know the phillies will not sure about the dodgers. The dodger play the padres who could easily beat them because they have much better pitching. So that could put the two seed in play for the brewers and if that's the case we are not getting them mailing it in. The plus for the mets if they make the playoffs they will probably face the brewers can't say there will be much travel when that is where you are on sunday in my opinion.
Great to hear you fear thre Brewers, lol! At this point, Milwaukee is looking at the WC series, so there's no way the Brewers will be playing the series with the Mets with a full commitment to winning. Whether it's tight pitch counts or regulars getting rest, you'll be facing a team at 50% of it's drive and capacity so I stand by my prediction that for the Mets, the Atlanta series is the season. And the Braves have KC for their final 3, so that's going to be a very competitive series for both teams, with high levels of motivation.
If you can't beat the Brewers 2 out of 3 with the season on the line in the final weekend, it's probably best you re-tool for next year.
Hard to forget about the phillies when they play them the next 2 days. You have to worry about who is in front of you. The braves are playing the marlins the next two days, we got our one, doubt they help us anymore, but I'm thankful they got one. When I ask for help from a team, I'm not irrational asking a team to sweep (Or feel the team I root for should win that way to get in), like the brewers are about to lose the first two games, asking them to win 1/4 or 2/4 is not outrageous in fact that should be expected this is baseball. That is not really asking for help that is asking for baseball team not to role over because you should never get swept in a 4 game series by anyone unless your facing the white sox of course, than you should sweep them.
Yes that braves series is gonna matter. But lets face it there are games after that. The mets could win 2/3 against the braves and still lose a wc, because guess what they have after the braves, the brewers. I feel if they win 2/3 the mets have earned that wc. period.And keep in mind last year 84 got two team into the playoffs and the 1rst wc was 90. The mets are allready at 85, and I still question although I think it will be enough at 90 if they get there in my opinion.
Totally agree. Forget about the playoffs. And forget about the Phillies for now. The Mets season will be decided by the upcoming 3 games vs the Braves. Hopefully they'll only need 1 win to clinch, like in 2022.
I think even with this loss going 16-5 in your last 21 is doing that don't you think. 3 of those 5 losses are against the phillies. As I said they are by far the most complete team in baseball and it isn't even close.
As they say, "help yourself", "charity begins at home".
Thank you marlins for the help today. Come on brewers you can come back and help as well.
Yep....not much of a surprise considering the roller coaster ride he was on all season....surprised , with Soto being scratched tonite, Grisham is in instead of Dominguez who really needs the reps
Actually Months ago at this point (Ottovino). I still can't believe he is here.
I actually prefer to face the brewers (But to be honest just want to get in, don't care who they play) rather than the padres if I'm being honest. The padres scare me more because they have really good sp and your pitching to be frank doesn't scare me. Neither does the d-backs pitching either. braves have pitching but don't have a lineup. Dodgers have a great lineup but there pitching is highly questionable. Phillies I continue to say have the best roster in baseball because it is complete and it isn't even close, followed by Houston, than the padres, Yankees and Mets in my opinion.
No doubt ottavino has to go. Should have happened weeks ago. You'd be better rolling the dice with Kimbrel for the last week of the season.
More to the point, and this is a big issue in Milwaukee as well, can the Mets hit quality pitching, because that's what the Phillies rotation will be bringing every game. And the other side of that issue is the quality, or lack therefore, of the Mets (and Brewers) rotations. Seve and who? In Milwaukee, it's hoping Freddy has a quality start, but then it's Civale? Montas? Rea?
The Brewers bullpen is excellent, which can't be said of the Mets, but a quality bullpen doesn't help much when you're down 4 runs in the 3rd. And unlike hitting, where an average player can find a streak of excellence, that's much less likely to happn with pitching IMO.
Yankees designate Ron Marinaccio for assignment to activate Cody Poteet
I get that peterson didn't have it but in what world is going to ottovino ever a good idea. Didn't get that with this manager. He better be the dfa'd guy when senga comes back next week.
Marketing move of the season: great to see MLB spruiking their product by making the free game on MLB.com the White Sox!
Lighting up Walker is to be expected. I think Howie Rose said that the Phillie's 5th starters have an ERA north of 13.
Offense which is good overall is back on track after that little slump they had for 3 weeks or so.
When the Yankees bought Ruth from the Red Sox he was also an excellent pitcher.
Holmes has had nothing to do with the most recent games. He gave up a run in a game the Yankees won on the 18th. The Martian contributed to the lass last night.
When in form he pitches lights out and Boone has taken the pressure off him by taking him out of the closer position.
Tigers have been on a tear going 8-2.
If you are talking about last night's game the Martian managed to lose that game in the 1st inning. And left 2 RISP with 2 outs.
Since RBI became official in 1920, only one MLB player has had, over the course of his entire career (same game or not). (Stats courtesy of @Opta Stats on “X”)
a game with 10+ RBI
a game with 6+ hits
a game with 5+ XBH
a game with 3+ HR
a game with 2+ SB
That one player is Shohei Ohtani. He did all of it today.
Judge and Witt are playing for second best.
Judge looked to have the MLB HR crown wrapped up---Ohtani says "no so fast" as the Dodgers throw up a 20 spot on the Marlins and Ohtani drives in half of them----6 for 6 with 3 dingers and 10 ribbies as he's up to 51 HR's---and he created his own 50-50 club in the process with 2 more SB's-------simply amazing
The Martian is not playing himself into a starting spot with butchered flyballs last nite and today...
Yankees would have clinched the divsion by now if not for Clay Holmes.
To be fair the Tigers are 25-10 in the last 35 so it is not just the royals they are playing well. And the reason why the tigers are in this is because partly the twins who cannot get out of there own way lately either, and don't deserve to make the playoffs with the way they are playing down the stretch.
The O's are another team who can't get out of it's own way, you think someone would catch them for the top wc, but that might not happen because the AL is very weak. I truely believe your 1b going down was a significant injury to your offense which was a little short allready. Those AL Teams right now are hard to like. I mean the Tigers are playing very well but I look at the roster and I'm left unimpressed although I am rooting for them. The Twins are playing terribly down the stretch. The royals have fell off a bit after the injury to the 1b, and there offense is clearly weak. The O's Have no pitching. The Indians starting pitching isn't great and now with the kwan injury there offense is lacking. That leaves the Astros and the Yanks. Give the Astros a slight edge, but would be surprised if one of them are not the AL representative at this point in the WS in my opinion.
I do think the royals will do better over the coming days the competiton level is dropping now at least for the 1rst 6 I believe in my opinion.
The sweep just made things very real for the Royals
I am going to the game tomorrow night
geeze, the Royals have single-handedly made Detroit a new competitor for those last two AL Wild Card slots. Ok, the Tigers get credit as well. Real tough series. Hopefully better outcomes in the last nine games.
best.

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
