Look the braves had trouble scoring runs for the most part since the injuries yet they still find a way to win games with there pitching. The mariners have averaged more runs this season than the braves have since may yet the braves have held up, and the mariners can't win. The mariners are 11th in runs score not 15th in the AL, they should be better. if they were just an average offese they should allready have 90 wins with there pitching. But even at there offense they should be in the low to mid 80's in my opinion.
their pitching and hitting are polar opposites---they've scored 215 runs less than the snakes while having the best ERA in MLB
There offense is bad. But when your 1rst in era in baseball, you shouldn't be trying to finish under .500 this season. Which is what they are trying to do. That is hard to believe, but true.
Their offense has been pretty pathetic---last in MLB in avg, hits, doubles, etc
The mariners are one of those team you look at with there pitching should be waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than they are, but watch the series against the yanks and you will quickly know why they are not in my opinion. Thankfully not a mariners fan this is the team that drive me up the nearest wall this season. They should be about 7-10 games better than they are in my opinion

Brewers have had a really good year. And the most exciting thing Chourio who I don't think will get it with Merill and skenes, but should finish no worse than 3rd in the NL ROY. He looks really good by the way. You have some speed (sb and triples) and you do have some power on offense (with homers) which is why you have scored the 3rd most runs in the NL this year. Your pitching, Still don't really buy you starting staff, which I think will eventually be the undoing of this team, but heck it is good enough probably to win close to 95 or so games when we are done here, so it is not that bad. Hence they have a shot.
I like the Phillies the best in the NL. They are the favorite and it isn't close. But I think the brewers, Mets (If they Make it) Padres (If they make it) Have shot of varying degrees as well. Dodgers right now have a little shot, but there pitching I won't say is baltimore bad, but it's not good right now with all the injuries. Arizona SP doesn't look good enough to me, eventhough there offense is amazing. And Atlanta it is there lineup that is the problem thanks to all the injuries.
Maybe Clay will miss an upcoming workout---precedence has been set

Clay Holmes should be confined to the bullpen for the next 10 games and is too much of a liabilty to be on the post-season roster.
Don't understand why with a fully rested bullpen Aaron Boone would use Holmes against the heart of the Mariner's batting?

Sad to see Kimbrel go
Someone had to go in Baltimore and Kimbrel was an easy call. At least now Hyde won't be tempted if the O's need some late relief help in tight games, though Seranthony Dominguez is just as scary.
Brewers wrap up another division title! This one could be the sweetest, what with losing Burnes, Woodruff and Yelich. Hate to be greedy but the crew really needs to win a round or 4 in the playoffs for the season to be deemed a success IMO.
Yep. McNamara never should have had him in there
We are holding on for dear life. Losing two to the charging Tigers isn't great
And the entire list for people who don't have a sub to the Athletic.
Buckner had bad ankles and he should have been replaced for defense in that infamous game. Poor guy was wearing high top spikes.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bucknbi01.shtml
Your Royals are looking good to make the playoffs.
Dumb as it was Gil did have his back turned on the attempted steal. Gil got lucky getting that out.
The Mets after today face the Phillies, Braves and Brewers. Will see just how worthy they are.
And what The Athletic says about the Brewers.
Here is what The Athletic has to say about Witt. If nothing else Witt is the MVP on the Royals.
Buckner could flat out hit. My buddy thinks that he is borderline HOF. I don't think that myself but he was good
Robles left the game with a "sore wrist". Haha!
Juan Soto hits #200 and has now homered in all 30 MLB parks--pretty impressive for a 25 yr old...that said, when he gets to Cooperstown, it won't be on his defense...
This mets team is alot tougher than that 2022 team in my opinion. And more importantly the braves of 2022 are a much better team than this Atlanta team as well, because of the injuries of course in my opinion.
Might be the dumbest play seen lately...M's have the bases loaded in the 1st on a HBP and 2 walks by Gil----with a 3-0 count on Turner (none of which was anywhere near the strike zone), Robles tries to steal home between pitches and is out to end the inning----wow
A 2 game WC lead for the Metropolitans after the Reds take down the Braves. Not a bad spot to be in. Those upcoming games in Atlanta will decide it IMO. Chance for the Mets to exorcise some 2022 demons when they needed a single win to take the divvy and couldn't find it in them.
I like what I'm seeing with acuna bat and too be fair his glove has been good for the most part. but that bat is live.
Bobby Witt joins the 30/30 club. What a season! Witt and Salvy, youth and age, bookending a scrapped together line up which looks bound for October baseball. From a 2023 record of 56-106 to approval of a 2 billion $$+ stadium in one year should earn KC execs some front office awards this year!
Oakland could have used this blueprint about 7 years ago.
Acuna is green. Bound to be some errors and miscues early. Lest you forget, most of the Mets infield has had some amazin' brain freezes, especially earlier in the season. Acuna sure can hit though, so far. Thumping the Nationals at home in September is exactly what the Mets should be doing.
Nothing like LH starting pitching to get the team going. Love to see those LH.
Now acuna who looked good up until that terrible play in limited playing time so far bounces back with a RBI double. He is obviously unproven and unexperianced but has potential, and I rather see him than eddy Alvarez who has played twice allready sinne he has been called up which is two times two many.
Now Acuna has a terrible play. to set up a possible big inning. Have to say I keep missing lindor daily.
Yeah but he was playing like two/ three times a week before mcneil went down especially when winker came in. And marte came back. Don't want to have somebody up in the lineup who is getting spot play. But now that he is a everyday player, hitting him up in the top of the lineup is fine, especially without lindor up there. Would hit him 2nd (especially against a lefty) with Lindor hitting leadoff when Lindor hopefully soon gets back.
I generally love LH pitching for the mets they are the opposite of the yankees, they love lh pitching (So this might get them out of there offensive woes a bit). So that's a plus that two lefties are on the mound the next two day. Mets are 9-2 so far against the nats, there success I believe to that level of dominance is they see alot of LH pitching, and that is a problem against the mets, your begging for trouble throwing lh pitching generally against them.
Glad to see Acuna in the lineup this madness with Eddy Alvarez has got to stop. Until Lindor is back he should start everyday.
I have said all along Iglesias should be moved up in the lineup to get the extra at bat.
The problem is when mcneil was healthy iglesias didn't play everyday. And too be fair mcniel in the 2nd half was one of the hotter bats before he got hurt (Stunk 1rst half). But now that he is gone and iglesias is playing everyday, I like the idea of moving him up in the lineup, I also like the idea of marte hitting 2nd right now with lindor out especially against a lefty.
Red Sox fans would be surprised Buckner is 3rd considering all the grief they gave him for his miscue in the WS.
I knew that Cash had the record which is crazy(An't believe that Gross was 4th. LOL)
Very cool about having a Nellie Fox bat.
Arraez has been a machine for a couple of years now
MLB investigating Alex Cora for Aaron Judge comments is amazing Yankees revenge

Not the smartest move to tell the media you wanted to throw at Judge.
I still have a baseball bat with Nellie Fox's name on it.
Arraez's astounding no-strikeout streak ends, so he responds like a batting champ
2:20 AM EDT
https://www.mlb.com/news/luis-arraez-no-strikeout-streak-ends-at-141-plate-appearances
Longest plate-appearance streaks without a strikeout (since start of expansion era in 1961):
• Dave Cash, 223 (1976 Phillies)
• Nellie Fox, 185 (1962 White Sox)
• Bill Buckner, 184 (1972 Dodgers)
• Greg Gross, 173 (1979-80 Phillies)
• Tony Gwynn, 170 (1995 Padres)
He is at the top of the order thanks to lindor being down. I rather have lindor back and hitting leadoff to be honest. I kind of like Iglesias hitting 2nd though.
It took the Mets awhile to realize Iglesias doesn't belong in the bottom of the batting order.
Someone should tell Iglesias he didn't get the walk off and keep the showboating down to a dull roar. lol.
The Mutts have 4 against the Phillies and 3 against the Braves and they finish with the Brewers. Phillies, Dodgers and Brewers are battling for byes going into the playoffs.
The mets for the year. Are 3rd in the NL in doubles, and 3rd in the NL in Homers. They are 6th in runs scored, 6th in ba, 5th in slugging and 6th in ops. So as a whole they have been decent. In reality, they were okay to start the year were the best offensive team in baseball from like may 30th to the break, okay for a little while after the break and the last 3-4 weeks the offense has been awful. And whatever offense they did have a lot was by lindor in big spots how many big hits did he get over that stretch do you think anyone else was getting those big Hits?
Now breaking it down. Vientos is in his first slump of the year. He has been outstanding, but he is in a slump right now, like 3/35. Alonso you look at his homer and xbh hit numbers they look fine. But they are the least impactful numbers you will ever lay eyes on. His ops is about 150 points lower this year with men on. I almost dread him with runners on, I feel like he can't hit this year. Now whether he is putting too much pressure on himself with the contract and all this year, that is possible end result is he rarely comes through with RISP, and less hard contact than years past as well.
Nimmo outside of a month and 1/2 has been a disappointment this year. His numbers would look awful if it wasn't for that month and half. Now his at bats look better lately, but than again he is master hitting the ball to right field just foul over the last couple of weeks, he has 4 balls that were litteraly feet from being homers down the line.
Alvarez, has been a disappointment with the bat as well. Although he seems like he is finally starting to show more life lately with better swings. Now that he is not trying to pull everything, he has tons of power work the middle and the opposite field two, you don't just have to sell out pulling everything.
Iglesias has been fantastic, and one of the best clutch hitters this team has, plus his defense has been outstanding as well.
Marte has been hurt a bit, but seems to get some hits, and than get hurt, get some more hits than gets hurt. Just when he get going there is some sought of setback around the corner, but when he is available I have confidence.
JD Martinez has had a down year, and simply might be on the other side of his career, He is 0 for his last 22 or 23, although it seemed like in philly he would keep hitting the ball to the wall in cf and they fielder would catch it including one where the fielder jumped up and stole a homer. having said that hasn't got a hit anytime soon.
Bader performance has fallen off, but that should of been expected. Winker has been Okay, but he has been cold lately.
And I have no clue why they keep playing eddie avarez the guy has 0 hits since he has come up 0. Play Acuna he at least has potential.
Jeff mcniel had a horrible 1rst half, than he started to hit a ton in the 2nd half. Than he got hurt and now he is gone. He was one of the bats that were picking up in the 2nd half, and the offense took a bad turn from okay to below average when he went down. It is now horrifically bad without lindor because not only is he clutch, but just if you watch the game he talks to the other plays when there batting when they are fielding his loss is waaaaaaaaaaay more than the numbers right now.
Now the good news for the mets and the braves. Is the D-backs if they can't beat the rockies are in a world of trouble as well. They have the brewers and the padres still on the schedule. They cannot afford to lose another game to the rockies or there is a scnerio the braves and mets make it and d-backs don't. Hoping the padres are extremely motivated for the division those last 3 games. I think the padres are in. But now with that loss last night to colorado a team I thought the d-backs would sweep, they have entered the picture it is 3 teams for 2 spots.
On a side note hopefully the tigers catch the twins, they have played terribly down the stretch and never show in the playoffs. Would love to see the tigers make it in my opinion.
1 run now going on the last 21 innings. This is really pathethic to watch.
This isn't about Lindor, though losing him is big for the Mets. And there's no Phillies team to blame. Mets heavy hitters just haven't clicked consistently all season. Lindor was terrible in the beginning, Pete has not been clutch with RISP, Nimmo hit the wall for some weeks. McNeil was a waste of space for a while. None of these guys have had woeful seasons, but in some cases, their numbers suggest they've been more clutch than they actually have.
IMO, the turnaround in the Mets fortunes started when they started finding consistent ABs for Iglesias. He's been their most reliable hitter and does a much better job of possibly any other Mets hitter at keeping the line moving.
Of bigger concern for Mets fans is the bullpen IMO. There's not much "lockdown" security trotting in late in close games.
So given the uncertainty in the lineup and the pen, I think the Mets' manager has done a really good job this season, especially for a rookie. Who picked that guy anyway, LOL?

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
