WASHINGTON—Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating an alleged plan involving former White House national security adviser Mike Flynn to forcibly remove a Muslim cleric living in the U.S. and deliver him to Turkey in return for millions of dollars, according to people familiar with the investigation.
Under the alleged proposal, Mr. Flynn and his son, Michael Flynn Jr., were to be paid as much as $15 million for delivering Fethullah Gulen to the Turkish government, according to people with knowledge of discussions Mr. Flynn had with Turkish representatives. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has pressed the U.S. to extradite him, views the cleric as a political enemy.

Judge Napolitano: Mueller 'Putting the Squeeze' on Flynn, Manafort to Get to Trump
Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn reportedly is concerned about his son’s potential legal exposure in the ongoing investigation into Russia’s ties to the 2016 election.
Michael Flynn Jr. served as his father's chief of staff and top aide. He was actively involved in his father's consulting and lobbying work at their firm, Flynn Intel Group, including joining his father on a trip to Moscow in December 2015.
This comes after reports that Justice Department prosecutors are trying to secure a plea deal with Paul Manafort’s former son-in-law, Jeffrey Yohai, in an investigation into potentially shady real estate dealings. [that article next below]
Judge Andrew Napolitano said Special Counsel Robert Mueller is using the standard tactics of federal prosecutors and "putting the squeeze" on subjects to get information in his Russia probe.
"They don't know how far up the totem pole they're going to go," Napolitano said on "Kennedy" last night. "They obviously believe they have something on the president and witnesses unwilling to deliver this something to them. So they've got to squeeze those witnesses."
He said Mueller and his team leaked that Flynn Jr. and Yohai could be in legal jeopardy to put pressure on Flynn and Manafort to give up information on higher-level Trump officials, including the president himself.
"This is the use of the arm of the government to take away human liberty," Napolitano said. "And are they interested in truth? Are they interested in justice? Or are they just interested in who's going to say what about whom, so we can keep going up that totem pole until we reach the guy in the Oval Office."
He said it amounts to "threats and bribes," which are prosecutable crimes, unless the government is the one doing the threatening and bribing.

The special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating an alleged plan that Michael Flynn, the former White House national security adviser, discussed with the Turkish government to forcibly remove a Muslim cleric from the US, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
Citing "people with knowledge of discussions" between Flynn and Turkish representatives, The Journal reported that Flynn and his son were to be paid as much as $15 million by the Turkish government.
NBC News reported earlier this week that Mueller had compiled enough evidence to bring charges against Flynn and his son related to lobbying work last year.

The White House wants to get a tax bill passed, and on Thursday—just hours before Senate Republicans unveiled the outline of their tax proposal—Gary Cohn, Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, told CNBC’s John Harwood that the President had laid down “two really important principles” to guide the lawmakers and officials putting the legislation together. “Number one is we have to deliver middle-class tax cuts to the hardworking families in this country,” Cohn said. “Number two, our corporate tax system just is not competitive with the rest of the world. We have to create a corporate tax rate, and along with that a pass-through tax rate, that makes us competitive with the rest of the world so we can attract businesses back to the United States.”
Yet since last week, when Paul Ryan and the House Republicans released their tax plan, it’s been clear that Trump’s two principles have run into conflict with each other. Or, rather, these principles have run into the laws of arithmetic, and the fact that there isn’t enough money in the Republicans’ own budget, even using the fuzzy fiscal math the Party favors, to provide big giveaways for all businesses and all households. Something had to give, and between businesses and households, House Republicans went with the businesses.

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn reportedly is concerned about his son’s potential legal exposure in the ongoing investigation into Russia’s ties to the 2016 election.
Michael Flynn Jr. served as his father's chief of staff and top aide. He was actively involved in his father's consulting and lobbying work at their firm, Flynn Intel Group, including joining his father on a trip to Moscow in December 2015.
This comes after reports that Justice Department prosecutors are trying to secure a plea deal with Paul Manafort’s former son-in-law, Jeffrey Yohai, in an investigation into potentially shady real estate dealings. [that article next below]
Judge Andrew Napolitano said Special Counsel Robert Mueller is using the standard tactics of federal prosecutors and "putting the squeeze" on subjects to get information in his Russia probe.
"They don't know how far up the totem pole they're going to go," Napolitano said on "Kennedy" last night. "They obviously believe they have something on the president and witnesses unwilling to deliver this something to them. So they've got to squeeze those witnesses."
He said Mueller and his team leaked that Flynn Jr. and Yohai could be in legal jeopardy to put pressure on Flynn and Manafort to give up information on higher-level Trump officials, including the president himself.
"This is the use of the arm of the government to take away human liberty," Napolitano said. "And are they interested in truth? Are they interested in justice? Or are they just interested in who's going to say what about whom, so we can keep going up that totem pole until we reach the guy in the Oval Office."
He said it amounts to "threats and bribes," which are prosecutable crimes, unless the government is the one doing the threatening and bribing.

The special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating an alleged plan that Michael Flynn, the former White House national security adviser, discussed with the Turkish government to forcibly remove a Muslim cleric from the US, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
Citing "people with knowledge of discussions" between Flynn and Turkish representatives, The Journal reported that Flynn and his son were to be paid as much as $15 million by the Turkish government.
NBC News reported earlier this week that Mueller had compiled enough evidence to bring charges against Flynn and his son related to lobbying work last year.

The White House wants to get a tax bill passed, and on Thursday—just hours before Senate Republicans unveiled the outline of their tax proposal—Gary Cohn, Donald Trump’s top economic adviser, told CNBC’s John Harwood that the President had laid down “two really important principles” to guide the lawmakers and officials putting the legislation together. “Number one is we have to deliver middle-class tax cuts to the hardworking families in this country,” Cohn said. “Number two, our corporate tax system just is not competitive with the rest of the world. We have to create a corporate tax rate, and along with that a pass-through tax rate, that makes us competitive with the rest of the world so we can attract businesses back to the United States.”
Yet since last week, when Paul Ryan and the House Republicans released their tax plan, it’s been clear that Trump’s two principles have run into conflict with each other. Or, rather, these principles have run into the laws of arithmetic, and the fact that there isn’t enough money in the Republicans’ own budget, even using the fuzzy fiscal math the Party favors, to provide big giveaways for all businesses and all households. Something had to give, and between businesses and households, House Republicans went with the businesses.
